A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

He’s Not Happy

Flav:  My preference is to analyze Giants victories.  This one is different.

Are Giants fans ready for torches and pitchforks yet?  No, it’s not on the players.  They are who they are.  Then there’s the injuries.  Hope that Wade is back for the next homestand.  Yeah, so who’s the target for fan dissatisfaction ?  The friggen owners, of course.  Wonder how many flappers wanted See-Ya Suzuki.  Five years, he got from the Cubs.  Buncha tightwads counting their shekels owning this team.  They could have cut a better deal with him that Chicago did.  Only caveat would be the absence of any No -Trade clause.  Give it a couple years and the pipeline may swell the outfield with talent.  Ain’t highly likely this year.  So maybe a fan boycott of the games, souvenirs, food, drinks, parking for a few weeks would send the only message those rich bass-turds know: Messing with their precious bottom line.

When Belt isn’t on his game, the whole lineup seems to go into a collective slump.  Team needs more than a single primary spark plug.  How many do the LaLaLanders have?  One might need both fingers and toes to count them.  Baseball is the shits for not maintaining balanced salary caps as is the case with the NFL.  Fuggin Googies think they can consistently buy their way to heaven.  A couple of strategic investments and SF could match them.

So how come mid-30’s Carrasco—who did not have a particularly brilliant season last year—made the Giants hitters look like a bunch of whipped puppies:  Not only did Belt have a bad day, but so did Ruf—who has consistently looked clueless to date, passing on balls right down the pike like he did this afternoon.  Pederson couldn’t apply the magic and Crawdaddy looked like a Crawbaby today with his three strikeouts.  Casali: Meh.  Only good performances came from Estrada, Flores and Yaz, who appears to be coming out of his early doldrums.  But unless all three had slammed dingers with men on base—another sore spot—that trio certainly wasn’t enough.

Now it’s rotation rumblings.  Once again Disco was off his game, giving up two HRs to two pretty good hitters.  Last year he did not sin that much.  So with Cobb out for ten, the rotation is looking a bit ratty.  Maybe Webb can get back on his game facing the currently hapless Nats.  At least the temp in the Di$trict of Corruption should be a bit comfier than 48 degrees at game-time.  That happens and SF has a great one-two lockdown once again.  Yunior escaped danger and Beede was not terrible over two IP, with one run on 3 hits, with a walk and a strikeout.  Pen seems to be basically sound and with more in the upper pipeline.  Boyd should join the team by sometime in June.  So pitching is in a short-term dip, but correctable.  Not so the offense.  Zaidi does the best he can, picking up another starter for Sac-town just today.  But it could be just another dumpster-dive, unless the “tweaking” does miracles once again.

So, consider a fan boycott with plenty of protest signs and media comments.  If the owners were not such misers, the team could at least have got the split I was projecting.  It’s on the moneybags.

Dubs didn’t play much defense last night but if they continue to hit 45% from 38 three pointers a game it really isn’t going to matter what the opposing team does. Of course, once they play a team who can play defense (like the Celtics would allow them to get all these open shots) it may be a different story. Fun as hell to watch now though

Why are playing just one game in Milwaukee on Monday???

  5. Bozo said, on April 22, 2022 at 6:42 am

I suspect with Suzuki, like Harper, it is more the length of the contract and not the $s. Also, the player might not want to come to SF.
To the best of my knowledge, the Giants have always worked within a budget and have allowed the GM to make a case to go over that budget when needed. Just seems to me that Zaidi and the ownership group are reluctant to sign the long term contracts,
I also think that Zaidi really wants to duplicate his Max Muncy deal and likes to “dumpster dive”.

With this one game would make this an unusual 11 game road trip so 6-5 would make it a successful one. Would have loved a split in NY but with the sweep in Cleveland we just need to split these next four to hit what would have been a likely best case scenario of 6-5.

    Who gets the start tonight?

  8. alleykat69 said, on April 22, 2022 at 7:14 am

GH…Got to be Sam Long moving into the rotation, he’s the only guy that can actually start and be effective unlike a useless Beede( still wild, still hard hit contact off of him) and Heljee (sp) is getting hit hard at Sac.

    • Giant Head said, on April 22, 2022 at 7:30 am

I was hoping Hjelle would get called up for Sat to see him pitch but did not know he has already started slow in Sactown.

Too bad the TWolves blew that big lead. Much rather Dubs play them over the Grizzlies. Why does Jokic pass up that open three with about 16 seconds left down 5??? They cut it to two at least can play the foul game and a bad foul shooting night for the Dubs. Then Denver after the miss just give up. I would be livid if I were their coach….

I’m I reading this right they DFA’d Jaylin Davis?

      finally. Mercifully.

Holding on to “Take 3 Strikes in the Corpse is even more merciful.

I’m guessing on a hunch the Giants will callup OF Luis Gonzalez to take over for useless GD and be starting tonight! Kid swings a good bat something they could use right now..

      • Flavor said, on April 22, 2022 at 9:52 am

        LG def getting called up.

      Yep.

Villain in Suzuki signing appears to be Yu Darvish, according to Baggs. He gave glowing report on city of Chicago to Suzuki and said he and wife enjoyed stay there, no doubt in posh northern enclave and Suzuki was sold. Case closed according to Baggs, and Giants never had chance.

If you want to go conspiracy theory on budget limit about other bats SF passed on, so be it, just don’t buy it.
And as Bozo said, less $$ than years of deal, imo. Giants are paying Rodon $22 mil per, on limited deal.

    • James said, on April 22, 2022 at 10:38 am

As others have observed, Harper is the model for the only kind of player they’d sign long term for big $$$. Young and MLB proven. Given the success of top flight Japanese league players, though, I assume they weren’t worried that Suzuki would be too big a risk. The Darvish story sounds a little strange, but if I had the choice and were making that kind of money, location would be a bigger priority than a few million more. Did Darvish convince Suzuki he’d be forced to walk down Market St. every day if he signed with SF?

      • James said, on April 22, 2022 at 11:17 am

Just read the Athletic story. Guess the Market St. scenario wasn’t too far off.

      • willedav said, on April 22, 2022 at 11:39 am

Ha, good one James. Used to be in City often for basketball up to 15 years ago, in J Town at JCC gym on Sutter right across street from Peace Plaza or out in Avenues at West Side High Schools. Otherwise, except last Flap game I made 2019, avoid it. Flems and family live there, in Richmond neighborhood I think

  13. alleykat69 said, on April 22, 2022 at 10:39 am

Didn’t help that guys like Darvish&Othani sold him and his wife on the violence in the Asian community in the San Francisco as another reason. Can’t blame him are his wife on possibly not feeling safe here. I’ll give Farhan a pass, they had no realistic chance getting Suzuki after that came out..

  14. willedav said, on April 22, 2022 at 10:39 am

Castellanos is getting 5 yrs at $100 mil with opt outs.
Starling Marte, already 33, 4 yrs at $80 mil.
Soler, basically a DH, has more moderate salary at $12 mil for 3 yrs but with 2 player options.
Bryant we know got monster unrealistic deal from Rox.
Still think it will be easier to pick up a bat at deadline should Z deem it necessary. It’s only April

  15. alleykat69 said, on April 22, 2022 at 11:44 am

Once he got burned on his 1st long term contract with LaStella at 3/18 Farhan’s not going long term with any player on years especially.Problem is his top prospects are atleast 2-3 years out in contributing. They need more then just trying to stock pitchers, they need a stud RH hitter, their just way overloaded with LH bats, and their OF RH bats are Slater&Dubon lol, with an occasional Ruf mixed in who’s a liability in the field and right now at the plate yet he still hits high in the order I don’t get that at all, he should be batting no better then 6th.Estrada should be leading off Yaz second right now..

Watch the Steph and Draymond interplay.
    Amazing passing and movement.
Steph must be at an unbelievable level of cardiovascular shape to constantly do this throughout a game, and still make the shots that he does.
His resting heartrate per minute must be 15. 😉
Steph missed the shot, but incredible action.
Last night’s Dubs’ passing and overall play was reminiscent of the 2014-15 and 2015-16 teams’ style and verve before Durant arrived.

  17. Winder said, on April 22, 2022 at 12:30 pm

The only way Chicago is safer than SF is if you stay really close to home. There is way more bullshit going on there than in SF. What is San Francisco something like an 8 mile diameter and Chicago is something like 30 miles. I read that article too and it sounded like they had made their minds up once they hit the states

Props to Andrew Wiggins for hitting corner 3 that gave GS lead it wouldn’t give up last night. He is also team leader in rebounds vs. Denver with 23 in 3 games, 9 more than Green who has 14 in 5 more minutes.
Wiggins is shooting over 50% from floor (14-26) and has made 5 of 9 3s. Also has primary defensive responsibility on opposition best perimeter scorer when he’s in there, especially in small ball group of shooters/scorers.

Good Stanford men are hard to come by. Maybe Jaylin can work out with him in the off season and pick up some tips.

I wish Giants would put Dubon where Davis is. Just a couple guys Z picked up in trades that aren’t MLB players.

Nats just lost couple in a row to DBax. 2 days ago AZ won 11-2. Giants get to see more of them next weekend for another 3 at home.

Giants are enjoying this pen game so far — warm temp, tepid opponent. Slater’s having a great game, Doobie has a chance to have one now. What a fine throw that was.

  30. Flavor said, on April 22, 2022 at 6:19 pm

    huh?

  31. alleykat69 said, on April 22, 2022 at 6:56 pm

That’s some fine work by Long and especially Jakob Junis 5 inning of shutout ball on only 3 hits with 4K’s!

  32. xoot said, on April 22, 2022 at 6:59 pm

Giants just violated the unwritten rule prohibiting a doubleplay to end a game when you have a six run lead.

      Haha.

Bullpen openers more than enough to handle a pathetic Nationals team..
And why does Patrick Corbin even have a job? He’s given up 15 earned runs in his last 3 starts(ERA now is over 11.00 and hasn’t been any good since 2019! Nats need to dump him..

what I read is Kareem changed his name day after Bucks won their title 1971, so by time this game was played that was his name. Great pic!
Btw, former Warrior draftee McCoy McLemore was on that Bucks Champ team. He spent first 2 years with GS before playing for couple other teams and getting traded over from Cleveland Cavs to Bucks that year.

Not a lot of scoring today across baseball. 90 runs total so far in 14 games, 20 HRs. In 9 different games winning team scored 4 runs or less. Only Rangers scored more than Giants 7 today.
