Play Hard But Play Smart
While I think everyone should play hard until the game is over it does appear this type of *attitude* is going to cause more problems than it’s worth. Baseball players are inherently little bitches so Kap might want to re-think this team wide approach he’s pushing.
Sad note for my buddy The Mudman who had a nice 3 team parlay going of *Yaz gets a hit, SF wins, over 8.5 runs scored* until Estrada got thrown out at home on that hustle play dooming the run line to die at the under….
Perfect warm day here as son and I are headed to the game.
Nats mgr. Dave Martinez played btw 1986 and 2001 during roid era.
Kuiper (75-85) and Krukow (76-89) acknowledge game (unwritten rules et al) has changed from what was acceptable or not then to what is now.
But is game better overall? More enjoyable to watch 6 pitchers get through 9 innings, 3 plus hours of same, 3 true outcomes become acceptable yada yada?
Starting to ignore Kapspeak myself.
Although he’s hitting .349 (15-43) for the Rox, Krissy remains homerless and has just 4 RBIs…
Last night’s performance might have gotten Jakob Junis into the starting rotation…
Fun fact from Slush–last season SF went 80-35 vs. RHP, just 27-20 vs. LHP. Slater had been 0-13 vs. LHP before bomb. Yaz had couple hits at bottom of order. Wonder if he takes over CF in Kap’s LH lineup once Wade Jr (playing rehab games this weekend) returns?
Said hello to Doval. Great seats right down the 3rd base line
Cool! Enjoy man.
Nice.
If anyone is wondering why the Giants are stopping off in Milwaukee on Monday for a single game, this explains it:
Brewers fans will first confront the oddity of the rescheduled Giants series next week, on Monday, April 25, when the Brewers will fly home from one Pennsylvania location (Philadelphia) to play a single game against the Giants with a 5 p.m. first pitch, then fly back to Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh) for the next series. Yikes.
There will be a ‘true’ doubleheader at American Family Field in September
The roof was supposed to keep these from happening, wasn’t it?
But this will be the first time the games will run a full nine innings apiece. To make up for the San Francisco Giants series that was wiped out by the delayed start to the 2022 season (on account of the lockout), Milwaukee will play two games against the Giants on Thursday, Sept. 8, starting at 3:10 p.m.
Gonzo gets the run in.
Casali RBI single!
I thought the DH was supposed to doom the bunt to extinction. lol. Maybe the shift won’t be so dull this year.
The Giants were such an MLB feel-good story last season, that there’s no need for the Giants to get a reputation as a bunch of “Richards” this season.
And I’m sure Craw, Belt, and some of the other older Giants aren’t liking it.
I’m losing a little respect for Kap on this.
The Nats’ City Connect jerseys are good ones. I could see those being big-selling items.
I was curious about it, and looked it up.
“The unveiling of the Nationals’ new City Connect uniforms earlier this week was met with an avalanche of positive feedback from fans on social media — and sales have followed. The cherry-blossomed themed apparel went on sale Wednesday before the Nationals proceeded to set a few records. It was MLB Shop’s best first hour of sales for any City Connect team launch and the shop’s highest sales for any City Connect Day 1 launch, beating the previous record by 58%.”
At least they look good.
I like the Nats City Connect jersey over the Giants orange creamsicle that only a ice cream truck driver should wear anyday! And they keep making it worse with those new butt ugly orange batting helmets with white squiggly lines going nowhere..
I’m another who have lost the Respect of Kapler. He’s not making any new friends around the league with his shit and arrogant approach to baseball etiquette. When the brawls start to add up and they certainly will, does he change his stupid thought process when a key player are 2 are injured?
It should
Lucius Fox is guy Giants traded to Tampa with Duffy for Matt Moore back in 2016, who had 2 forgettable years here, and was then sent off for 2 prospects that did nothing.
Fox has been waived by Royals and Orioles, not a good look.
Nothing from nothing, right?
Yeah Nats unis are OK, dang sight better than silly Giants ones we’ll see Tuesday when they return home.
Moore’s big moment for the Giants was that shut-down performance in the playoffs vs. the Cubs. In a rare bad pitching move by Bochy, Moore was removed after 8 innings with the Giants leading 3-0 or 2-0, and the entire Giants bullpen flopped in the 9th inning.
I still like the orange unis. And we seem to win in them for the most part. Orange is one of my favorite colors.
That was a great movie.
I think Cishek was the pitcher who gave up the big playoff HR to Morse vs. the Cards in the Ishi HR game.
Ballgame! GH for the win!
That was a nice win.
A nice, low stress game…
Don’t like Mr. Kotter’s shenanigans either. It’s a bullshit attitude that makes him look arrogant and petty.
Good solid baseball win today. Sweep boys tomorrow. Gnats suck. Very surprised to see Lucius Fox is with the Gnats.
A rare Giants win for me seeing them live.
“Nats mgr. Dave Martinez played btw 1986 and 2001 during roid era.” Yeah, and unwritten rules b-b-b-badass Tony LaRussa quietly supervised ground zero of the roid era ignite in his clubhouse in the late 80s. Etiquette? lol (Anyone else see clips of Giuliani singing Bad to the Bone on a tv show the other night? Now there’s a breach of etiquette.)
It’s another Kap Kontroversy. It’ll soon fade, just like his “mishandling” of the bullpen.
Like lot of mgrs., less he said better off he would have been.
And for those saying Nats need to play better, they’ve won WS since Giants have. they’re rebuilding…why rub their nose in it?
I didn’t hear his comments. I assume they were delivered in his usual enlightened corporate speak. Death to everything old school, I say!
Maybe not. Kap was clear: Giants know the numbers and the probabilities and decide accordingly. The goal is to fairly win as many games as possible. Blasting a HR off a position player pitching in garbage time probably isn’t going to help much on down the line. But bunting against a reliever you may face later in the series may; even forcing that pitcher to deal with a runner on 2B instead of 1B may. Sounds like part of the game to me.
that defense of the bunt was exactly the explanation Kap gave for Doobie’s “controversial” bunt, which Kap said the dugout called
It’s freaking April and he’s talking about ruining someone’s bullpen and affecting their team. Stealing 2b up 7-1 in the 9th, vs a Nats team that could lose 100. Pls. Save it for LA.
When Cincinnati, or whatever shitty team it is this year, plays the Giants even, I’ll remember to weep hot tears for the poor underdogs even as they knock Rodon out of the box 😄.
you don’t win 107 if you don’t try to whip everyone. Kap was concerned about the series.
and maybe experience last year vs. Pitt (3-4) and Seattle (1-2) has bearing now. Milwaukee (3-4) was the only other team to win RS series vs. the Giants.
Whoa Utah comes back from 4 down in last 39 seconds to knock off Dallas.
Durant could not be more useless…
This is a beautiful thing for Warriors fans. He thought he was better than the rest of the team. Irving and Durant getting eliminated could only be improved upon if Harden was still on the team.
Oh no. Amy G going national. At Petco for Dodgers doing pregame for MLB network.
Maybe we can swap Amy G. Pads break 10 game losing streak and finally beat LA, 3-2 in ghost runner 10.
The Mets actually look like the real deal. This could very well be their year being in a division going through some growing pains with rebuilds.
Road trip 6-3 with 2 left. Followed by 5 at home vs. A’s and Nats, before 2 at Latrine. Yaz taking over CF and starting to hit. Once Wade gets back OF should look lot more solid. Bombs will come. Even better is how few SF pitching is giving up.
Gotta love Brebbia!
Got my second booster yesterday and I feel like I was hit by a fuckin train…
1. Joc Pederson (L) RF
2. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
3. Darin Ruf (R) LF
4. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
5. Wilmer Flores (R) DH
6. Luis Gonzalez (L) CF
7. Thairo Estrada (R) 2B
8. Jason Vosler (L) 3B
9. Joey Bart (R)
P: Logan Webb (R)
In the harsh world of sports, a player’s injury or illness is another player’s opportunity.
I wonder if the current players even know the old phrase “to Wally Pipp someone.” Maybe the phrase is still around.
Just saw Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder joined forces for “Get on Board”, Nonesuch Records release of music of Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, wonderful dup. Saw them in 70s downtown Palo Alto at small club University and High St. Had a few of old LPs, good stuff.
Leadoff Joc jack!
Mr. Ed delivers!
It was a pleasant surprise that the Padres ended up defeating the Dodgers last night after blowing a 2-run lead late in the game. The game just seemed to have “Padre loss” written all over it after the blown lead. The Pads showed some resilience against the Dodgers, which they usually don’t show.
At least Webb’s stuff looks normal again …
yet shit happens to him here. Teams have developed an approach to Webb, to his change especially. Reminds me of Lincecum in early 2011 when he struggled against Atlanta. Still smarting from game 1 of the 2010 PS, Atlanta developed an approach to the splitter that had humiliated them in October. Timmy walked a bunch of Braves, gave up a bunch of runs, and other teams took note. These days, everyone knows everything and has the basis to develop an approach. Lincecum also may have peaked in 2010, but still . . . the resemblance hovers like fog on the shitty city connect unis.
Yes, spot on, which is why, like Timmy, he needs those couple extra mph on the fastball. He wasn’t as dominant at 93-94, but he was still pretty good. Once Lincecum dropped to 89-91, he was basically done as a star player.
And as I type this, Webb gives up 2 more two out runs.
Triple Belted!
Lot of off speed innings 4/5 from Webb. Not using fastball much at all this time through lineup. hmmnn
PED-erson!
Wow, another Joc no-doubter.
Damn, Webb one out away from going 7 but couldn’t the 9 hitter.
My bad, the leadoff hitter.
Joc seeing the ball well 3-3
2 bombs 💣 and a double
3 runs scored 4RBI’s
Liked Miller’s comment on the second blast”:That balls heading for Baltimore “
Damm I didn’t know Yaz was placed on 10 day DL with Covid-19 and will remain in isolation there for 10 days.
Giants could still add a player to join them in Milwaukee but haven’t done so yet..
Cautious Clay: 2 walks and a HBP.
ha! Float like a butterfly plunk like a clod
I guess it’s time to stop scoring…
I think the Giants should run a delayed double steal here.
Wilmer tagging up to score up 9-3 in 9th, is that allowed?
Nats have requested the Giants go station to station the rest of the game..
That was no accident…
There we go, Giants hold Bart at 3rd on Belt hit.
Do we brush someone here?
Hope so…
Sweep in D.C.!
Wow, some fireworks. Hope we can do some of that against our division.
I assume we’re all good with Joc…
It’s getting harder to dislike him.
I’m still having some trouble liking the guy, but for me, he’s gone from Jocass to Jocasset.
Hitting ball really hard.
Yeah, I’ve got a lot of basketball broadcaster pet peeves.
“Scoring the basketball”
“Rebounding the basketball”
Calling the basket “the cup”
Reggie Miller keeps calling the ball “the basketball,” instead of “the ball.” Reggie, we know what sport it is.
Stephen A. Smith
Stan Van Gundy
“bigs”
Sideline mid-game interviews
There was a time when circus dates took precedence over Knick & Ranger playoff games…
Mel played a big time hood in “The Gambler”…
Trae Young looks like he never played basketball in his life…
DJ, that’s how I got to game 3 of the 1975 NBA finals. The Warriors were kicked out of the Coliseum for the Ice Capades, and they were forced to play at the Cow Palace. In beautiful Daly City. My brother in law got tickets somehow. Great game. Rick Barry went off for close to 40. Barely anyone else reached double figures iirc.
