A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Derby Day!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 7, 2022

If you’re looking for something to take your mind off the Giants sucking I have just the thing for you. I’m going to let my main man The Boney One handle today’s thread because he breaks these plays down as good or better than me:

Thomas McDevittThu, May 5, 9:32 PM (2 days ago)
to me, Chris

I feel exceptionally confident this year

  1. Messier, 8-1 ML; If he actually goes off at 8-1 or higher he’s a great bet
  2. Zandon, 3-1 ML; Heart and wallet want him to win ($16.8k in Derby Future Wager), and he figures to run great, but doesn’t have much early speed and that’s been a huge problem last 12 years
  3. Cyberknife, 20-1ML; He probably will be 20-1+ and therefore my best longshot pick for underneath in trifecta and Superfecta
  4. Smile Happy, 20-1 ML; I seriously doubt he will be 20-1, probably more like 14-1, but that’s still great value on a horse with a real chance of winning
  5. White Abarrio, 10-1 ML; might get 12-1 on him, and if he reproduces his race in Florida Derby here he can definitely win
  6. Epicenter, 7-2 ML; I think he’ll actually end up as the favorite. Nice horse, but had everything his own way and his wins aren’t as impressive as they might appear. Not a fan, but won’t let him beat me
  7. Crown Pride, 20-1ML; Japanese horse, would be a massive upset, but Japanese horses are now as good as any in the world, dirt or turf, and it’s inevitable one of them will win the Derby someday at long odds. When they do, I’ll have some $ on them
  8. __________________________________________________________

For my money the 2 best longshots to hit the board today are Cyberknife and Crown Pride…..

this is the most wide open Derby I can remember in quite some time.

    Welcome back Wade!

    Early game Lamont highlight.
Is that his 3rd AB of the season?

  3. alleykat69 said, on May 8, 2022 at 2:00 pm

1st hit of the year for Wade and why not go yard!
No easy task driving it out to the 415 section, it was estimated at 436 ft 🚀
3-2 lead after a Yaz sac fly..

Augh. Ball in the sun maybe but that was ugly. Breaks not going our way. Ruf ball too hard hit vs bader:(

  6. mrsprtdude said, on May 8, 2022 at 3:08 pm

Morant likely out for game 4:(
Will Poole get suspended? Should he be?

First base umps should just flip a coin on close plays. The coin flip would probably have a higher accuracy rate.

    Lets go Duval!!

Doval does it! We get a split.

Nice . Doval had me worried. Another win

Never easy after that walk and WP but Doval gets it done
As the Giants win and get the split to make all Moms happy at the park for Mother’s Day..

  16. Macdog said, on May 8, 2022 at 4:21 pm

Not as epic a Mother’s Day win as the one in 2010 over the Mets in NY — was Loo there? — but still a good win.

    • djloo27 said, on May 8, 2022 at 4:26 pm

      Sure was, Mac!
Timmy was shaky but Rowand homered into the teeth of a chilly wind to win it.
      That’s how I remember it, anyway…

Oh and thanks Krukow for jinxing the Giants who had not struck out all game, until you mentioned that then Joc strikes out for the final out in the 8th..

Now hopefully the Cubs can show some pride tonight.

Amazing that every team in the NL West is above .500
Easily the toughest division in baseball…

If Poole gets suspended, the Bane should be suspended for this.

Here’s where Ja gets hurt. He bangs knees with Klay on this 3.

  22. zumiee said, on May 8, 2022 at 5:13 pm

In that first video it can be seen that Ja is one of those players who pushes off with his off-hand when driving to the basket. That used to be called a foul. I don’t know if the rule has changed or if refs just aren’t calling it like they used to.

    • zumiee said, on May 8, 2022 at 5:13 pm

LeBron is one of those players that does it a lot.

  23. unca_chuck said, on May 8, 2022 at 5:15 pm

    I like this one too

  24. alleykat69 said, on May 8, 2022 at 5:24 pm

There not suspending Poole it’s reported, just a normal basketball move that the Whiny Grizzlies trying to make a big deal of it. Of course if Morant’s out the Grizzlies are finished, they don’t have enough shooters to get it done .Dubs win out in 5 games..

Joc is now 0-18 and 2-25 last 2 weeks. No way he was ever gonna sustain .360, but back to reality is harsh.

    • xoot said, on May 8, 2022 at 8:04 pm

first game of the season, he ripped two foul balls down the RF side — must’ve been 110 mph. But his timing was off and he didn’t do much for a few games. Then he hit his stride and hit 6 HRs in the month. Injury derailed him, temporarily. His screaming foul balls down the RF side — at least one, today — resemble what I saw in that first game. Maybe he’s still ailing; maybe he’s working on his timing. But the reality isn’t harsh, yet.

      • James said, on May 8, 2022 at 8:37 pm

Yes, and there were the two recent 400 ft outs.

      • willedav said, on May 8, 2022 at 9:16 pm

Sure he does often hit the ball hard–he smoked one right at the shift guy playing short RF today, resulting in groundout. In 2 weeks he’s lost 100 points off the OB (now .297) and 200 off the slugging (now .551). so where does he go from here?

      • James said, on May 8, 2022 at 9:51 pm

If his average and SP have each dropped fifty more points 400 PAs later, that would be a great season for him.

Arenado got victimized by crushing one to wrong part of yard today too, luckily enough. Really surprised how little damage he and Golds did this weekend. Giants will see them for 3 next week in STL, maybe with Rodon starting a game.
