A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 27, 2022

After the Niners won the Super Bowl in ’94 I didn’t really appreciate it until all those years went by AND they lost 2 Super Bowls AND 3 more NFC championship games. I can now fully and completely appreciate the run they went on in the 80’s.

And when the Giants won 3 in 5 I stupidly bought into the “even year bullshit” and actually expected another in 2016.

Then the Warriors went on their run and again I bought into idiotic claims like the one from Lacob that said the franchise was “light years” ahead of the rest of the NBA. When they moved to SF I thought “we are all good, Lacob would never make this move and allow anything less than a 70 win team to enter that buliding”.

LOL what an idiot I have been…..

I am truly in shock and appreciative awe at this group of HALL OF FAMERS getting back to the NBA Finals.

I will never not appreciate a moment like this again. Their are way too many seasons past (and seasons to come) that will end in miserable failure. We are blessed.

Very enjoyable playoff run. I thought Nuggets would be tough..nah. Then Grizzlies. But helped Ja got hurt. How did these Mavs beat Phoenix. Suns and Chris Paul are an embarrassment. Celtics are going to be tough and physical if all healthy but there is something about our Dubs and the frickin huge chip on the bets shoulders!!!

And honestly we love Curry but Wiggins was clearly the MVP having primary defensive responsibility on Doncic. Was brilliant effort on his part.

Yes, a very cool run for the Warriors, but there’s work still to be done. Losing to the Raptors left a bad taste in my mourth, so they need to finish this off. If they do meet the Celtics, it’ll be the first time since 1964. Two historic franchises going at it again would be great.

Yes they are back, wonderful. Wasn’t at all sure they could get there; credit due imo to Griz for hard fought series that forced them to excel and maybe had coaching staff figuring out some things too.

Btw, the link James provided yesterday to Chron story about how Giants are trying to adjust defending when Rogers is on mound was reinforced by long Baggs column on same in Athletic. Bottom line he is not getting hit harder than last year and even though ERA is unsightly at present he’s same guy he’s been–very effective at getting soft contact and low launch angles off the bats of ML hitters. Bench Coach Correa looks at all the data, every AB etc. and they are still trying to figure out best way to be more efficient behind him and unique style..

One solution is to have actual major league players on defense instead of someone like Padlo at 3B.

Exactly. Kapler: “Do we flat out need to catch the ball more? Yeah we probably do.”

6th trip to Finals in 8 years quite a story. 2022 version kind of warts and all group that included shots taken at Kerr and FO. As Anthony Slater of Athletic said, Curry stands out once again even alongside his 2 cohorts.

Yeah, their 5-12 run down the stretch was worrisome but I felt like this team could get going. It has been ugly and weird at times, even yesterday as they suddenly forgot how to play when Klay went out in the 3rd and Dallas went on their 15-2 run. But this team really cut down on the turnovers in the WCF, and when they do that, they are unbeatable.

Truly a blessed time to be a San Francisco sports fan when you count the rings between the Niners (5), the Giants (3), and the Warriors (4) in my lifetime. Throw in championship appearances and you get 7, 5 and 7. Throw in the A’s and Raiders and you get 4 for the A’s and 3 for the Raiders.

That’s a whole lot of meaningful games that don’t include all the playoff appearances by the 5 teams since the 60s.

Speaking of being back, noticed Umberto Rispoli has mounts at Santa Anita today.

Apparently the Giants and Reds almost came to blows in BP.

    • zumiee said, on May 27, 2022 at 3:50 pm

      Pederson was involved. Big shocker!

  10. zumiee said, on May 27, 2022 at 3:26 pm

I don’t mind the Rockies City Connect uniforms, although they look kind of minor league, or like a company softball team.

    • willedav said, on May 27, 2022 at 4:07 pm

The old Denver Nuggets unis with mountains in different colors, from Alex English Fat Lever days, were great.

  11. zumiee said, on May 27, 2022 at 3:29 pm

Congrats to the Warriors! They play the best brand of team-ball, and are very deserving of the accolades.
All the best to them in the Finals.

  12. zumiee said, on May 27, 2022 at 3:45 pm

It seems like the Dodgers have played about 20 games already vs. the Diamondbacks, but that can’t be correct.

The gun situation in this nation is so stupid and depressing. There’s no real political will to change things.
Clearly 18 year olds shouldn’t be able to buy assault rifles and the bullets for them. And those rifles should be completely banned, anyway.

23 years after Columbine, law enforcement in Texas makes all the same mistakes and stands around for over an hour as people bleed to death, and more get shot. All those families of the victims are going to be millionaires eventually from the lawsuits, but they’d rather have their family members back.

  15. zumiee said, on May 27, 2022 at 4:01 pm

Kudos to Kerr for speaking out. Kap has posted a statement, but I haven’t read it yet.

  16. zumiee said, on May 27, 2022 at 4:07 pm

I watched some of the A’s game last night. There truly is a boycott going on from the fans. Very few in attendance last night. They have a legitimate chance to break an MLB record for smallest season attendance for an 81 game home schedule. Their home games vs. the Giants could have enough attendance to keep them from that record, though.

    • unca_chuck said, on May 27, 2022 at 4:25 pm

Back in the late 70s I went to a Giants game, and when they announced the attendance (butts in seats, not tickets sold), it was 983.

It’ll be interesting to see what the Mavericks do going forward. Barkley mentioned early in the season that they’ll never win a championship with Luka controlling the ball so much. They need more ball movement on offense.
Some of the other broadcasters mentioned Luka needing to be in better physical condition. One of the broadcasters mentioned the need for the Mavs to play at a quicker pace.
I wish the refs would call a foul on him sometimes for the way he uses his off-hand to shove the defender away. All the players do it to some small extent, but he’s more egregious about it. He and Le Bron. But they’re both probably untouchable on it, given their status in the sport.

    • willedav said, on May 27, 2022 at 4:27 pm

I’d say Memphis is stronger and deeper than Dallas. Being lit up by Looney and Wiggins, let alone splashy ones, Mav’s team D is awful. GS routinely went to rim or midrange and scored and Flav called this one early on
. Memphis has more size and more shooters. And yes, and that pace with Doncic controlling ball has to suck life out of teammates.

      • unca_chuck said, on May 27, 2022 at 4:32 pm

I really think Memphis plays a lot better defense with Ja out. He also hogs the ball and has the same kind of effect that Doncic does, where they are all standing around with their thumbs up their ass while Ja dribbles around looking for a shot.

I just think they play fundamentally better on both sides of the ball with him out. Granted I only really have the playoff games to go off of, but Memphis had a solid record while he was injured.

  18. unca_chuck said, on May 27, 2022 at 4:29 pm

Doncic was barely playing yesterday till his outburst in the 3rd quarter. 2 trips down the court in the 2nd quarter, he didn’t make it to half court as the Warriors scored. Van Gundy was ripping him.

The Bay Area has been golden when it comes to sports teams. I don’t think anyone could ever feel better than I did after the Niners first SB, and the Giants first WS win. For the longest time I wasn’t sure I would ever see a Giants WS win. The icing on the cake was that they continued to play top notch ball for years after. Getting spoiled was fun. We are still playing great ball but just not quite good enough. Maybe this year.

    More AAAA fielding.

    Playing like KRAP in Cincinnati.

    • willedav said, on May 27, 2022 at 7:40 pm

Lulz Giants C still doesn’t have a batting average, right?

      • Macdog said, on May 27, 2022 at 7:43 pm

Can’t imagine how that can be.

I think they’ve lost the last four Rodon starts.

Back in the USA. Ben following Dubs as bets I can. It was definitely a good time to be away from being an every day Giants fan. Go Dubs! Champions League final today!

  31. willedav said, on May 28, 2022 at 7:33 am

The kid starter for Reds got 10 ground ball outs (and only 1 k) in 6 + innings, at Great Am Small Park. Closer got 3 more. Catcher’s interference, again? Rodon did look off and wasn’t throwing 98-99 like usual. Maybe it was rain delay.
Interesting about lineup card flub over McGee. There was a discussion in dugout btw Kap and Correa. Alvarez didn’t look good either.
