Finding Ways To Win
What are the odds Luis Gonzalez wins rookie of the year? Too much of a stretch? Maybe. But he’s at least sentenced the Grave Duggar to 6 feet under—for life. Buried alive. Lqtm. Ok, enough Grave Duggar jokes.
Have any of you guys had the pleasure of listening to Will Clark’s KNBR spot Wednesday mornings? It’s refreshing. He talks about himself nonstop and you can tell he’s always one uncensored comment away from being canceled for life, but it is fun to listen to him talk about the old days.
Yes Gonzalez continues to hit and Walton had big hit too. Phils now 21-29 with $233 mil payroll.
Rodon might need to go as long today as Webb did. Rogers went 2 innings yesterday, and Doval Leone and Alvarez accounted for another 2. Brebbia didn’t have it and SF was fortunate McGee cleaned up after him.
couple things from Baggs in Athletic: Junis had animated convo in dugout, apparently not happy to have been pulled at time, and Longoria wasn’t either though Kap said afterwards his shoulder bothered him again. hmmnn
Giants went 13-14 in May, not a great month.
Here’s Bark splits for May: .093/.250/.163. for .413 OPS. For season .153/.294/.306 for even .600 OPS.
4-43 in May with 7 BBs. Only extra base hit was HR, which I do believe was off Albert Pujols.
Ownage is ownage…
lulz. Btw looked up numbers on Phils backup CF Roman Quinn (guy who made last out after Giants walked Harper), and they’re about identical to Bark. He’s 6-37 with 1 double and 3 BBs and couldn’t get above Mendoza line last year. GD would be upgrade over this guy and could yank one out of that yard once in awhile.
It’s high time this guy got some recognition as Flavor says up top.
All he does is hit…

In the post game coverage, no one seemed to notice that Walton’s hit was actually the game winner. Alvarez didn’t allow a run in the bottom of the inning. I was also amused to hear “they only went 5-18 with RISP.”
In 2 different box scores I saw McGee got a blown save. How is this determined? Brebbia put the 3 guys on base before he came in and then McGee got the GIDP that scored a run before striking out next batter for 3rd out. Brebbia was charged with run he put on, McGee got the blown save. ?

There’s vulture wins and vulture blown saves I gues.
s
thanks Loo. perfectly legit–he was on mound when tying run scored to make it 3-3 after Brebbia couldn’t get anyone out of 4 batters he faced.
1. Tommy La Stella (L) DH
2. Mike Yastrzemski (L) CF
3. Wilmer Flores (R) 1B
4. Joc Pederson (L) LF
5. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
6. Curt Casali (R) C
7. Luis Gonzalez (L) RF
8. Donovan Walton (L) 2B
9. Jason Vosler (L) 3B
P. Carlos Rodon (L)
Let’s get the sweep!
Phils DFA’d Quinn. Segura out 10-12 weeks with fractured finger injured on bunt attempt last night.
Shea says Ramos and Fairchild optioned back out Vosler and Long up. Says Longoria might be available today.
Maybe Longo’s shoulder is sore from hitting so many home runs.
Is this injury made up for some reason, a leftover from last season, or is this guy just so old and fragile that he can’t play two or three weeks without getting injured?…
Weeks? It’s hours . . .
Hoooooo. Nice Yaz!!
yeah hella grab. Castellanos crushed the slider. Rodon already at 54 pitches.
Rodon ain;t nearly as good as he was in April.
He’s been disappointing overall.
That’s a foot outside! Fuuuuck.
Jesus Christ wilmet
Little league defense rears its head. Rodon needs to put someone away.
Oh boy. 2 in a row.
3 in a row.
Sweeps are hard, but you can’t give away 3 outs.
Guess we are waiting to attack the pen again.
Go rangers! Is that right? Wtf is The Lightning ⚡?
Wasn’t Tolbert big fan of them (Tampa)? Playoff hockey is fun to watch.
The Rangers just scored 1;10 in.
Dubon in Oaktown with Astros, started couple games in CF. 1-3 today with BB, slash line .224/.239/.343.
Double for JohnBoy nice start to the inning!
Come on Vosler do something!
That aboy Vosler! Back to back doubles!!
2-1 keep it going Tommy!
Yeah baby 3 straight hits to tie it up, way to go with the pitch Tommy!
Nola is losing it finally time to take the lead..
Wow adios pelota, Otra vez!
MR.ED hits dead red for a 3Run Bomb!!!
Hell yeah their blowing up Nola!!!
Make that a curve ball that he curved on out of there..
Wilburrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!
Wilmet!
Maton should not have put the ball in play much less hit a HR. Just a fucking horrible pitch.
The number of times shitty left handed Phillies hitters have beaten left handed pitching tonight is absurd.
Meatball fucking souffle there. Jesus, Garcia. What the fuck?
Garcia was perfect all year not anymore. He blew à possible win for Rodon and they took Nola off the hook as well.Maton? wtf? a scrub just called up hits a bomb?
Scharber get in 3-0 groove it in FB was pathetic by Garcia..
Maton looked lost up there and then just blindly hacked at that batting practice pitch.
Getting an effective McGee back would be pretty helpful.
Agreed. Looked good last 2 games.
Yeah it looks like McGee has zip back on his fastball, he would be a nice asset James if he continues strong..
Tough loss after getting the 5-2 lead.
But 2 out of 3 is still good taking the series.
Yeah, McGee looks pretty solid. Getting tired of the eeephus pitches from Rogers. McGee is a breath of fresh gas.
Bummer Giants couldn’t get the sweep. I was in Pa. today and driving back listened to the early innings on Philly station. One of their radio guys is Erik “Krusty” Kratz as I think Kat used to call him. Both announcers were subtly ripping home plate ump Vanover’s strike zone, and ripping him for both sides.
I’d like to know the last time the Giants scored 5 in the top of the 6th only to give up 4 in the bottom of the 6th and then nobody scores after that and we lose. What data base can I answer this question?
Pirates swept the Dodgers. That is not a typo.
I haven’t been listening to any of KNBR lately since I got so into audiobooks. I’ve been currently listening to a great book about the friendship and working relationship of FDR and Churchill, called “Franklin and Winston,” by the great historian Jon Meacham. A wonderful book, read really well by the reader, and just a great listening experience. I probably won’t go back to sports-talk radio.
I did read something about F.P. Santangelo being a KNBR person now. He lost his Nats gig? I thought he was OK on the Nats broadcasts. Not great, not bad; but pretty good. Maybe he wore out his welcome in D.C.
It turns out the explanation of his leaving the Nats broadcasts is on his Wikipedia page:
Misconduct allegation
Santangelo was absent from the MASN broadcasts of three Nationals games between April 30 and May 2, 2021, returned for the broadcasts of May 4 and 5.[9] He then was absent from a YouTube broadcast of the game of May 6, despite the Nationals having aired promotional spots on MASN for his scheduled appearance as a color commentator during the YouTube broadcast, and did not return for MASN broadcasts on or after May 7.[9]
Santangelo’s abrupt disappearance from the broadcast team went unexplained until May 8, when The Athletic reported that Santangelo’s absence was the result of a woman’s allegation of sexual misconduct by Santangelo via an anonymous Instagram post.[9] The same day, a Nationals spokeswoman informed the press that the Nationals had revoked their approval of Santangelo as a member of the Nationals broadcasting team and requested that MASN remove Santangelo from Nationals broadcasts, which had resulted in his absence from April 30 to May 2.[9] The Nationals spokeswoman explained that a MASN investigation had cleared Santangelo, allowing him to return for the broadcasts of May 4 and 5, but after additional allegations of misconduct surfaced online, the Nationals had again asked for his removal, resulting in his absence and indefinite suspension after May 5.[9][10] MASN referred the matter to Major League Baseball’s Department of Investigations for assistance in the investigation.[9][11]
In a statement on May 8, Santangelo denied the allegations,[9][11] and a MASN spokesman expressed surprise at the Nationals’ willingness to air the accusations publicly before MLB could complete an investigation.[11] Santangelo returned to Nationals broadcasts on July 16, 2021,[11] and that day MASN explained through a spokesman that “The Commissioner’s Office and MASN have reviewed the anonymous claim made against F. P. Santangelo. MLB and MASN have found no evidence that Mr. Santangelo violated the terms of his contractor agreement, [or] league, or network regulations, nor is there more evidence currently available to us to collect. Accordingly, Mr. Santangelo’s credentials have been restored and he resumed performing his duties tonight.”[11] A Nationals spokeswoman told the press, “We were informed that MLB and MASN had completed a review of Mr. Santangelo, and that MASN would be returning him to his broadcast duties today.”[11]
On November 3, 2021, Santangelo announced that he would not return to Nationals broadcasts for the 2022 season.[12]
Of the 15 NL teams, only 6 are currently above .500, which seems strange. The Giants, of course, are currently one of those 6.
