Frustrating Loss
That was an infuriating way to lose especially after taking the lead against a quality pitcher like Nola. The silver lining was that Rodon looked dominant again as well as McGee not looking terrible.

Forgot to make note that we both should have cashed in on Dubs in 5 over Mavs prediction. Damn what were the odds. I should have cashed in. I am going Dubs in 6 but I think Celtics tenacious D really could spell trouble and hope they don’t force us to 7 games.
Even with potentially GPII back, he is less impactful against a Marcus Smart as he would have been against the Grizzlies in a full series or the Mavs. Wiggins may not have the physicality to contain Tatum and that is I believe the key to the series. Can Kuminga and even Moody come in and wear Tatum down as much as possible and get really physical so that Wiggins can hold his on late in games. Going to be an awesome matchup and series I believe.
Will there also be an Iguodala sighting. In his heyday he would have been possibly the most perfect defender to contain Tatum.
Tossup series GS vs. Celts. Both teams have injury issues to important role players (Porter Jr GP2 Robt. Williams) and strong backcourts. Keys imo would be turnovers and rebounds. Kerr has talked before about “winning possession battle” that allows his team to get up more shots though this will be more difficult vs. Boston, a team that has turnover issues of their own.
.
Home court ad could be crucial too–GS is 9-0 at home so far. Celts have both won and lost critical home games while also being more capable than GS (3-4) of winning on road.
I have been super confident in all dubs series this year….up till now. Celtics have two studs and multiple ways to score and they play defense the warriors haven’t seen yet. This is gonna be a war to win
Kapler on yanking Rodon after 5 innings and 98 pitches, even though he struck out 3 in 5th: “…we’re not going to let him throw 115 pitches when he’s not efficient, and he wasn’t efficient tonight.”
Shea said in his column that while Rodon has pitched at least 6 innings in half his 10 starts, “…Kapler said if the LH is at 85 or 90 pitches in 6th or 7th inning, he’d be more willing to let him keep pitching.”
Turnovers and finishing will determine this series. Boston seems to have issues late in games.
This Celtic series has even sparked some interest in me. To me the Celtics are the Green Bay of basketball.
I’ve wondered what would happen if on day Rodon is to start, Kap handed him the ball and said “I’ve disconnected the phone to the pen, so game’s all yours.”
I didn’t mine pulling Rodon there, he was at 98 pitches coming off injuries from last year and it’s a long grind of a season so cutting down some bullets out of his arm seemed right.Hell Garcia hadn’t been scored upon all year, and he was facing 3 left hand hitters out of the first 4 ,same Rodon would of done except it would of been the 3rd time around in the order.Just unfortunate Garcia’s worst game of the year had to be this one as they say Shit Happens!
Marlins are 20-28 despite being +16 run differential. Middle order of NL for most offensive stats, 10th runs 7th HRs, but have 5th best ERA in league. Alcantara is starter tonight vs. Wood, and he already has complete game to his credit and ERA of 2.00 over 10 starts. First 3 SPs all RHPs for Miami.
Marlins also returning home after playing DH in Denver yesterday.
Story in Chron said cheapest ticket at Chase tonight (sold out) on resale market is $700, four rows from top. That price rises to $1050 and gets you two rows closer for Game 5.
I wonder how many people under 40 know what a box office is.
They still have one at Madison Square Garden.
Not sure why – no more hard tickets as far as I know…
Still haven’t been in the new digs. maybe I’ll watch a game in Boston in there.
Might be slight, but I’d give coaching edge to GS. They have a routine for halftime, involving Kerr and his vet assistants like Mike Brown Ron Adams and Bruce Fraser, who leave players alone for few minutes while they talk among themselves, followed by talking to players, watching brief vids and then players talking in front of everyone.
and most playoff games Warriors have done very well in 3rd quarter (even after poor starts in first quarter), and have been better at finishing games too and winning the close ones.
I don’t like gambling shows being on the MLB Network. It’s just wrong, IMO. I realize MLB thinks that gambling is a way to stoke interest in the sport, and no doubt that is true, but at what cost to people’s lives? Lives and families are destroyed when some fall into gambling addiction. Gambling should exist as a separate thing from the MLB Network. There should be some kind of firewall between a sports’ headquarters and the world of gambling, IMO. Keep the sport itself in a kind of protective bubble, with the gambling being promoted outside of the bubble.
The host of the MLB show “Pregame Spread” today said “The juice is on the over.” Oh, yeah, let’s use gambling jargon on the show. Let’s just gamble up this whole network.
Like everything else in America, it’s all about the Benjamins.
When you see how they paraiah-ed Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle for being casino shills (or whatever they were doing to make ends meet), it’s pretty hypocritical of MLB to suddenly act like they’ve been partners for years.
I think this follows the same pattern of the payoffs. Warriors in 5. Glad to see our liuttle winning streak at the end of the season put us past Boston record-wise. Home court is a big advantage for the Warriors I’d think.
And it looks like GP II and Porter are ready. Iggy prolly not, but 2 out of 3 ain’t bad. Porter’s length should help a lot.
Hey Zum, out early today on morning walk had the song “I’m only sleeping” in my head. “Keeping an eye on the world going by my window’ great line.
“Running everywhere at such a speed/Til they find there’s no need.”
Crawford not in the lineup. I didn’t hear why.
The ballpark is empty.
Yaz-Pederson-Gonzalez might be the best outfield the Giants have put out there in a long time…
Think it’s a designated day off for Crawford who’s been playing the bulk of SS and getting into Miami at 3am not a bad move giving the older guys a dayoff.I’m more concerned with Longo again with that shoulder trying to play thru it..
Agree about the OF. I liked it when I saw the LU. Crawford’s been “under the weather” or something like that, according to Kapler. He was in the original LU and then pulled.
mlb created the office of the commissioner specifically to combat the influence of gambling after the 1919 scandal that leant so much color to The Great Gatsby. Business was the concern then (holy money-making national pastime had to be preserved, antitrust exemption had to follow), as it was decades later when Happy Chandler approved the post-war looting of the Negro Leagues for mlb’s profit and honor.
Throwback commish Bart Giamatti intended to land hard on gambling and coke and, toward the end, on roids. Pete Rose felt some of that wrath. But Bart died, and his right-hand man Vincent proved no match to the owners, who staged a coup and turned the office into a corporate CEO’s perch for Selig. All downhill since then.
Oddly, the unusual antitrust exemption remains. One detail most people don’t notice is that the first commish, Kennesaw Mountain Landis, was also the federal judge who presided over the very first baseball antitrust lawsuit. He sat on the case for years, with no decision, and then took his new, uh, private sector job.
Get outta the way, Blue!
OF is fine for offense, D not so much other than Yaz. Where was Pederson throwing?
To Disney World? Terrible throw no chance at home and the hitter easily takes 2nd and yes an error on Joc too!
Those are pretty normal uniforms by Marlins standards…
Yeah they should have 2 Marlins on the front that spell out 2 steps below them..
Slider is 88-91, with fastball 97-99. Alcantara is tough.
Giants wasting hit and BB from Bark. Rest of them of have been on base 3 times in 5 innings with 7 ground outs and 6 Ks.
Joey having a nice game , single , walk, guns down a runner!
Time to get something going while his pitch count soars up..
But he’ll be tough as nails, just got his 500th career strikeout pretty impressive
Bullpen strikes again.
Jesus did Kapler even know Doval just got up and threw maybe 2 pitches?
Strange sequence there and it’s all falling apart now..
That 100 mph fastball in on the hands that Aguilar turned on right after a good slider had nothing to do with the number of warm up pitches. The other hit was a seeing eye ground ball.
I don’t understand why Doval’s fastball is not used at the top or above the zone, especially in a dead ballpark like Miami.
When your supposed closer comes in in the 6th inning I guess you can’t call him the closer anymore.Back to the closer by committee.McGee,Rodgers,Doval 3rd? are someone else it drives me crazy..
With another preposterous barK, on a hanging slider from a left hander, it’s time for basketball.
Joey, looking relaxed and confident, crushed an Alcantara slider like that opening day into the LF seats. But he completely lost his bite by the end of April. Maybe the mindfulness yoga coach who helps the Giants with pre-game breathing exercises could help the guy. Maybe hypnotists could.
Maybe Bart needs to borrow Roy Hobbs wonder boy lighting bat?
Or Kelby Tomlinson’s glasses?
pathetic loss against a team that blew it’s wad in COlorado and didn’t even get back to Miami till 6am
In that Phils L, after they lost the lead in 6th Giants got 0 hits last 3 innings. Now this. yuck.
It may be time to put Curry in your all time starting five if you haven’t already…
Steph 0 points in the 2nd quarter
yeah that was big. See what adjustments happen in 3rd when he usually plays whole quarter then sits to start 4th
Celts fought back in 2nd quarter after explosion from Curry. Tatum and Brown only 7-21 from floor 1-6 from 3. Non Curry Warriors not doing much beside Porter. Poole 1-4 Green 1-7. Rebounds almost even, GS with 2 more turnovers. GS usually dominates 2 point shots but only 10-22 so far–credit to Celts D.
Mark Jackson said good offense beats good defense every time.
Really? Every time?
really hard to listen to solo or with VanGundy . Every time, no
Looney and Wiggins fueling the run. Wiggins doing good job on Tatum too.
Why is that butthole Steven A for asshole Smith even end the building??
Dubs starting to wear Celtics down, but yes I agree with the play by play guys, the 2 best teams are in the finals while the rest are at home..
The adjustments the Warriors always do at half always pays dividends in the 3rd quarter!
They tightened up the D and making it real tough on the Celtics And crashing the boards well
Looney says not going to happen on that shot block with authority!
GS with 11-6 edge on O boards, teams even on D boards.
Have the Celtics missed a shot in the 4th quarter?
game of runs. Always liked Derrick White at Colorado in Pac 12. Good trade to get him from Spurs.
No answer for 36 yr old Al Horford, impressive .
31-11 run in 8 1/2 minutes.
17-0 run in crunch time.
And Tatum doesn’t have any of it. First L in playoffs at home for GS.
all beef hooked
Incredible run the Dubs got steamrolled!
Celtics clamped down couldn’t miss a shot this team is scary good and Tatum was the shits!
Wow. That was insane. 2 minutes to start the 4th quarter killed them.
40-16 in the 4th?? Are you fucking kidding me?
Epic and shocking fail:(
