A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

All Of That Sucked Ass

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 3, 2022

I’m not even sure what to say about that. The Warriors got steamrolled in their own building by everyone BUT Boston’s main man Tatum. That’s one reason I fear the Celtics. They aren’t like Denver or Dallas who just have one guy. I guess you just hope they don’t catch 4th quarter fire like that again? Still, that just seemed too easy and the Dubs had no answer. Nobody would have an answer for that, tho.

Embarrassing loss by SF. Miami was in maximum energy output in the rare air of Denver and then didn’t even make it back to Florida till 6am. With everything going in our favor we lay down meekly in a 3-0 loss. Truly awful performance.

We got slugged in the face and knocked to the mat. Can they get up??? Was saying to my boys back home on the West Coast that these Celtics are the best team the Dubs have ever faced in the Finals.

One Iggy varied that corner three at the very end of the third I thought the bball gods are with us. Then he barely missed that two pointer up 10 that was a good shot but just rolled off that would have put us up 10 then I think it was Jaylen Brown buries the three to cut it to 7 and that turned the game. I had mentioned I wanted to see Kuminga and Moody in this game because we need their young physicality to at least wear down the the super athletic Tatum and Brown and also gives Wiggins and Klay some more breath. Our only shot is to get those two some minutes to be sure extra physical and see if they can wear them down before another 4th outburst. Dray has to be on Horford denying those shots.

mm who would they replace? GS was fine for 3 quarters, up a dozen with who they had. Problem was when Celts got hot, they couldn’t match shooters/scorers and I don’t see how either Kuminga or Moody help. The other problem was trying to play Green and Looney together in 4th–that allowed Celts D to zero in on other 3 and leave those two alone. Green couldn’t finish anything and when Poole was in there he didn’t do very well at either end. For bench players, Derrick White was much the better.

And to be fair, Curry didn’t either after his monster first quarter. I’ve said this before but one of my issues with Green is the fact that in all the years he’s been in the league he hasn’t improved his shooting touch. Looking at what Al Horford can do at his age only amplifies this for me.

Once Iggy buried that three it should have read…

After Iggy hit that 3 I will confess I thought this game was over

    Who knew?
In 1953, Al Rosen led the AL in HRS (43) & RBI (145).
He lost the batting title to Mickey Vernon by one point (.337 to .336) costing him the Triple Crown.
Vernon went 5-8 in his last 2 games – Rosen went 5-9…

Phillies phire Girardi, even the comeback win in the series finale vs. Giants couldn’t save him.

  6. Winder said, on June 3, 2022 at 8:42 am

Yep, a terrible day for Bay Area sports. Hope the alarm bells go off for the Warriors otherwise they are done.

    • Winder said, on June 3, 2022 at 8:44 am

The Giants just can’t hit good pitching but that is pretty common for a lot of teams.

  7. zumiee said, on June 3, 2022 at 8:54 am

Well, the NBA had its current style of play on wide display last night. Endless 3-point shots, and it’s a “make or miss” league, and the Celtics shot their 3s a little better.
And a few one-on-one drives to the basket mixed in. And there’s your current NBA.
Post play? There was just about zero amount of that last night. The Celtics cracked the code. Just have your whole team be 3-point shooters! Genius!

    • James said, on June 3, 2022 at 9:24 am

Is watching short range jumpers from 250 pound blocks preferable to Harden-style drives, the other latter day sin? They’re both about getting cheap buckets and free throws. Morant does look cool as he takes 4 steps and carries the ball.

Willie, I agree about the greatness of “I’m Only Sleeping.” By that point the Beatles were getting some Dylan influence into their work, and I hear that in that song. The song comes out sounding different than Dylan, but the influence is there, IMO. John was exploring how he could use his voice and his acoustic guitar in different ways.

Someone needs to tell Mark Jackson that his line “What can Brown do for you?” is old and tired.

    • Flavor said, on June 3, 2022 at 9:06 am

Not as tired as “mama there goes that man”

      • willedav said, on June 3, 2022 at 9:36 am

yes. too bad nobody hired him to Coach so it’d get him off TV.

      • unca_chuck said, on June 3, 2022 at 10:26 am

He’ll never get hired as a coach. All the shit that came out around his time with the Warriors is pretty terrible.

If you had me list off my 3 favorite warriors growing up it would go World B Free, King, Short…..

This is shaping up to be a very brief series. Absolute meltdown last night.

Lloyd Free, as athletic as anyone in the league at the time. I got to watch him play quite a bit when he was with the Sixers.

Giants playing today? Saw horse race from gulfstream in slop and they said it’s been raining for hours. ?

    • djloo27 said, on June 3, 2022 at 1:31 pm

They got the roof on, so I think they play – in front of a lot of bored vendors and ushers…

  14. zumiee said, on June 3, 2022 at 1:16 pm

World B Free looks like he got pump-faked into the air, in the photo. A peeve of mine is NBA players getting pump-faked into the air so easily at times. It’s bad fundamentals. I’ve coached some youth basketball, and that’s one of the first things you have to teach young players is to STAY DOWN when contesting a shot. Sure, post players should try to block shots, but they learn they can do it by jumping a little later than they think they have to. Block the shot in the air, and not when it’s in the shooter’s hands. But all the other players need to stay down, in youth basketball. Close out the outside shot by running out to the shooter and using little choppy steps at the end to slow your momentum. Put a hand in the shooter’s face, stay down, and then box out on the shot, in case of the long rebound.
Several Warriors, and a few Celtics, got pump-faked into the air, and often the opposing player still had their dribble and just drove past them, breaking down the defense. I sort of get the concept that closing out 3’s in the NBA is a little trickier than at other levels. The shooters can’t be left any daylight because they’re so good at this level, and yet you have to be careful not to get your feet into their landing space. But the pump-fakes in the area of the key that were getting defenders to fly into the air were just bad basketball on the defender’s part.

    • willedav said, on June 3, 2022 at 1:37 pm

Exactly Zum. footwork is so important, no matter what you are doing or what position you are playing. Refs are taught to follow shooter after shot is taken and lot of fouls are called on guys that don’t give shooter room to land, by going forward instead of up.

What I’ve noticed is that in defending the NBA corner 3, it seems like the idea is to fly by the shooter. Does that make sense?

      • zumiee said, on June 3, 2022 at 2:57 pm

        It doesn’t to me.

  15. zumiee said, on June 3, 2022 at 1:31 pm

James, I get your point about post players, but there were many very skillful and enjoyable post-moves to watch, back in the day.
The Jabbar skyhook, and once in a while he would fool the defender by faking the skyhook, do a spin move, and shoot a very graceful finger-roll.
Jordan was an underappreciated post-player. He had all the spin-moves and step-unders, which he probably learned in college.
But there were many others besides those two all-time greats. Sabonis, for the Kings, has really good post-moves. I like watching him do his thing. Unfortunately, he got injured and his season was cut short.

  16. alleykat69 said, on June 3, 2022 at 1:42 pm

I wasn’t expecting old man Al Horford to light it up for 26 points on 9-12 shooting he was incredible knocking down 3’s along with Derrick White off the bench. You expect Tatum( off night but still had 12 assists?) Brown&Smart to do their thing but when you get 5 guys coming thru, that makes it tough. Still up 12 starting the 4th quarter and getting smoked 40-16 that should not happen.Yet the Celtics just couldn’t miss, and the Warriors couldn’t do anything on offense are defense..

Really means Giants have to score, early and often. From last 3 innings of game vs. Phils, Giants have 0 runs and 3 hits, in 12 innings.

I’m not thrilled with Estrada being a platoon-guy now, but such is the way it is.

      • Macdog said, on June 3, 2022 at 3:39 pm

Estrada will probably get in as a pinch-hitter at some point.

      • Macdog said, on June 3, 2022 at 3:55 pm

Or not. Estrada now starting at 2B, lineup changed from one posted earlier.

Cobb was scheduled to start but was scratched with lower back tightness. Also, Sean Hjelle is up and Sam Long is back to Sac.

    • James said, on June 3, 2022 at 3:41 pm

Thx, missed that. Unfortunately, Cobb is putting in the kind of season that would make him an attractive, below the radar signing for Zaidi next year.

That 1985 draft was indeed very impressive,Surhoff,Clark,Palmero,Larkin, Randy Johnson,Smoltz,Inclavilla (sp)
Jeffries,Witt and plenty more talented players..
You guys know that Will Clark and Rafael Palmero both played together at Mississippi St? Clark had the bragging rights in the draft though going #2 Palmero #21

wonder if Manfred is messing with baseball again–56 HRs hit yesterday across 15 games. Actually there were 2 games with none and Boston game had only 1. Vosler someone to keep eye on? Couple nice fielding plays at 3b too.
Casali sure had interesting line in amazing box score. Giants had 15 runs on 14 hits 6 BBs and 13 Ks, Casali getting 5 in 5 ABs and Crawford having the 5 1 1 5 line.

  45. Lurker John said, on June 4, 2022 at 7:23 am

That’s exactly what I was hollering at the screen, Mac. All this stupid tinkering drives me nuts. Just put in a real pitcher and get it over with.

  46. Lurker John said, on June 4, 2022 at 7:24 am

Yeah, rough night for Casali. The Golden Sombrero and then some. lol Much easier to tolerate when the team romps.

  47. Lurker John said, on June 4, 2022 at 7:31 am

Love him or hate him, Pederson has proven to be an excellent signing. When he’s locked in he really wreaks havoc on opposing teams. Another tape measure bomb last night.

And Yaz is quietly putting together an All Star type year. At the plate and in the field, he’s been pretty damn good.

    • Macdog said, on June 4, 2022 at 7:41 am

And he’s one of the very few players on this team who has some speed.

      • willedav said, on June 4, 2022 at 8:37 am

Ha last time I looked Giants have 3 triples as a team, dead last in NL. Playing at a park with designated Triples Alley. It’s still 415 to the wall out there.

      • willedav said, on June 4, 2022 at 8:39 am

Actually Braves have only 2 so Giants are 14th.

  48. James said, on June 4, 2022 at 9:24 am

Kasali feeling the sting of all the praise being heaped on Joey for his “leadership,” so he decided to get in on the race to lead the club in Ks.
