Tough Contest
Another Sunday is here, another Sunday I will likely not win Marty Lurie’s Original Joe’s contest. Just pick the exact score. It’s easy they say. Oh, and the kicker: even if you get it right if there’s a tie some random dude who works for Marty picks a winner out of a hat. And now it’s not even a weekly win. It’s monthly. #rigged.
Anyway, I won’t stop till I hit this.
I didn’t think Webb deserved to stay in there either. Kap had already sent the pitching coach out there once in his meltdown inning and he wasn’t able to get right and make good pitches.
Do people still listen to Marty??? Is it a different group of callers then he had in Bochy 3/5 days?
Dogs had 4-1 lead on Mets after 2 last night. Then Mets knocked out Buehler in 3rd, who has ERA of 3.84, and hit 4 bombs on way to 9-4 thrashing at Latrine.
Giants had been 15-5 vs. under .500 teams before road trip where they’ve so far gone 4-5 vs. 3 more under .500 teams. Giants themselves were under .500 in May, 13-14.
For all the churn of roster due to injuries etc., Giants are second in NL for runs scored per game, and no worse than 3rd for HRs, slugging pct and team OPS. Even Vosler started to hit with power and Joc is among league leaders for bombs, as LH playing home games at the O.
Yet pitching allows 10th most runs per game in NL, is 11th in ERA. Dunno how this gets fixed, unless SPs start going deeper into games and taking more of burden off pen.
Funny thing is, as much as this season has been up and down, there’s plenty of opportunity to clean up rest of the month.
Today is getaway day vs. Marlins team 22-29.
Homestand has 3 with Rox 23-30 before Dogs come in.
Next up 3 at home vs. 17-34 Royals.
road trip starts with 23-38 Pirates then 4 at ATL.
Month ends with home series vs. Reds 23-31 and Detroit 21-32.
So after today that’s 7 series vs. only 2 winning teams and 3 last place teams.
Our pitching is having the same issues we gave teams last year. They throw 85-90 pitches in 5 innings. Mr. Kotter can’t seems to figure when to pull guys. Rogers meltdown inning was infuriating. Same problem that dogged him in Philly.
Willied I will agree to disagree on Webb, hell he hadn’t even given up a hit till 3 plus innings in,he more then deserved to finish the inning off to qualify for a win.Instead of bringing in the day before starter in Brebbia? Who obviously can’t handle a situation coming into an inning with runners on over pitching a clean inning coming in.It’s not just Webb complaining it’s Wood as well getting a quick hook. You want your pitchers to go longer, but he has no faith in them, then you end up with a BP that’s overused and easy to lose faith in them as well..That was a winnable game against a shitty team you can’t afford losses too, now they’re scrambling too even get a split?
I’m with you Kat. Isn’t the rule don’t bring a new guy in unless he is better than the guy who is in there?
Yeah you would think so Sprtdude, but not in Kap’s crazy thinking.Hell he can’t even define the BP roles, now your supposed closer Doval coming in in 6th innings? That should be Rodgers useless inning work instead of him being in a tight game. I’m sick of stupid matchups that don’t matchup, and being back to 3-4 back to committee closers too..
Up in Raleigh for the 3d Van Gogh thing. I actually enjoyed the hell out of the exhibit. Really well done IMO.
Heading up to Durham tonight to catch the Bulls vs Nasville Sounds. Itll be my first time at this stadium, looking forward to it.
Sounds like Good times Bozo ! Enjoy the Bull Durham game should be a blast!
Thanks, Kat. Should be a good time.
1. Austin Slater (R) CF
2. Wilmer Flores (R) 1B
3. Mike Yastrzemski (L) RF
4. Evan Longoria (R) DH
5. Luis Gonzalez (L) LF
6. Thairo Estrada (R) 2B
7. Jason Vosler (L) 3B
8. Curt Casali (R) C
9. Donovan Walton (L) SS
P: Jakob Junis (R)
Jesus, how does a team that won 107 games last year field that slop line up?
Day off for Craw ahead of trip home and off day Monday. Walton looks weak armed for SS. Odd that LaStella hasn’t played much 2b since he came back. Still not 100%?
Same with Vosler even though he’s played well, making stops and all his throwing lacks arm strength like when Flores plays over there..
LaStella has played 3 games/18 innings total in field this season. What’s up with that?
Last and only game at 2b was May 23 for 2 innings. 1 fielding assist.
two games at 3b May 21 and 31 for 7 and 9 innings, with 0 chances
Also 4-24, so DH doesn’t seem to be working out well either.
This will be an ongoing situation all season with injury prone players like LaStella,Longo&Belt, now Wade who’s knee is constantly not right.Should be about time for a Flores hamstring pull as well. Then you have Disco (ankle) Cobb ( bad back) Slater ( bad wrist)but hey GD oblige is starting a rehab at Sac? I heard lol due to injuries and no options? he still will get one final crack I assume..
Had to laugh–running in 6th race today at Santa Anita is horse named Johnny Paycheck.
Sang one of all time classic anthems for disgruntled employees, 1977 hit “Take this Job and Shove It.”
Thanks, Kat. Should be a good time.
holy shit. Someone finally took advantage of all the first pitch strikes.
Don-boy slam!
Donnie doubles is now Donnie Slam !! 7 RBI’s last 2 days nice!!
Definitely, warming up to this guy & Vos.
Our trash heap Giants…
Lol brainfart moment for Dogpile manager Dave Roberts yesterday.Trailing 9-4 in the top of the 9th he tried to bring in a. position player McKinstry to start the inning.Well guess what a position player can’t come into pitch unless your down 6 runs are more. The umpires said bring in a reliever instead!!
Junis had been a revelation of consistency since entering the rotation.
And he should of gone longer in his last start, giving up only 1run, let’s pray 🙏 that Kapler doesn’t pull him again before he can qualify for a win finishing the 5th..
97 pitches thru 6 strong.
Probably done I guess…
Yeah this time was the right decision, he’s been fantastic.Nice 6 pitch stress free inning out of Spaghetti Leone..
That was not a true statement by Kuiper on Collinger who said he hit 2 Grandslams in the same inning. He hit his first in the 1st inning off of Priddy, then his second in the 7th off of Sadecki..
Oh boy who doesn’t see what’s coming?
Hooooooo boy
Ballgame!!
.500 roadie. Coulda been better, coulda been worse. Kinda the theme of the team.
Alright get the split and a 5-5 road trip
Giants win theeee Giants Winnnnnn!
You guys probably remember I shared a table for a long 5 minutes at a St. Helena restaurant with Marty years ago when the Giants were golden, while BeerCan excused herself to the WC. No need to guess the score and go through the random hat pull gauntlet. He was cool. “We talked ball”. No idea whether BeerCan is still on the scene, I haven’t heard mention of her lately, but I don’t listen like I used to…
Flemming on radio said Gonzalez misplayed ball in 9th. ? If true wouldn’t be first.
Yeah 1st step in will get you everytime on a line drive smoked right at you…
BTW, I say again Rogers is not a late inning guy. Just like today in the 8th, too many hits, too many doinks. He’s given up something like 29 hits in 22 innings. That’s too many for late innings work with his lack of Ks. Junis good today…
Yep Rodgers is so maddening, it took a great play on a ball drilled that Estrada made just to keep the score from getting closer. And I’m sure Kap would of stayed with him, only increasing the madness.
Mutts beat the Bums in 10 after blowing 4-2 lead in 9th.
This was Giants’ second season series win (or third if we count sweep of Cleveland), other one was Nats. Giants have lost two season series (Cards and Mets).
The Ray’s have a kid coming up, Baz, he hits high 90s on the gun, but the kid takes a lot of time on each pitch. So much so that they just turned off the pitch clock by the 3rd inning.
Fun night, sat by the Bulls dugout, nice little yard.
Ugly ugly quarter but somehow the Dubs have the lead.
Ugly ugly half but somehow the Dubs have the lead.
A bit less ugly in the 3rd.
Smart, Horford, White all basically doing nothing, this is how the Warriors win
The good thing is that Wiggins and Thompson didn’t add much on offense for the Warriors, either. There’s always someone doing nothing.
I’ll say…
Giants’ victory/Dodgers’ defeat: a great day in baseball.
