A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Cut From A Different Cloth

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 16, 2022

Do we get Game 6 Klay? I dunno. It doesn’t really feel like it’s building up to that. But who knows? This run, like all the runs before it, has reminded me how hard it is to get to this moment. Never take it for granted. The next one is likely not around the corner.

That’s what dumb fans of loser franchise’s don’t understand (and I didn’t understand before like 1981 or so). It isn’t about how good your players are or what random stat you can find about one of them that makes yourself look smart (and them good). To win it all is so much more than all that bullshit. How much heart does your team have? Character? DNA? Leadership? Selflessness? Luck? All of that is how you get to the point of winning it all, not how many good players you have.

In the Bay Area we have been blessed.

Well said, Flav. Takes lot of things coming together at once to win it all. Keeping things together even harder.

Giants will see ATL on next road trip and Defending WS Champion Braves will be without injured 2b Ozzie Albies. Both he and R Acuna won rings last season–who knows if they will ever do that again? Especially since baseball has added teams and games to playoffs, increasing difficulty.

Will be a hard close out game. I had the Dubs winning in 6 but could easily see them if they fall behind saying let’s not stress Curry and Klay and

Just throw in the towel if things get out of hand and see if the youth can get some playing time and see how they play.

Saw someone on MCC site second guess Kap for bringing in Slater to PH for Pederson in 5th with thinking Matheny outfoxed him.
At time score was 2-2 in 5th, there was one out and Flores on 1b, KC had LHP Amir Garrett on mound, only lefty in pen. Kap brought in Slater to hit for Joc, and he struck out. Slater wound up 0-2 and is now 4-23. Complaint was removing Joc at that time ruined any chance for late game AB vs. other RHP relievers like one Slater faced.

Yeah, the guys on 95.7 were talking about all the moving parts around the Warriors getting to where they are.

Starting with, if Baroin Davis re-ups with the team, back in 2008, do they draft Steph? Getting D Lee and laying the groundwork for a winning culture, getting Bogut for Monte, keeping Steph over Monte, Drafting Barnes and Dray, the D’Russell for Wiggins trade, just a shit-ton of savvy moves that turned the team around.

Like the drafting streak (and dumpster dives) that Sabean went on in the 2000s that built the Giants.

Hard to repeat the process over and over, but the Warriors young guys (Poole, Moody, Kuminga, Wiseman (?)) look promising. Really think Steph and Klay feel it and we crush them.

Winning tonight would put the Warriors past the Chicago Bulls with 7 championships. Bring it home!!

As for GS, Anthony Slater had good column in Athletic on well Klay defended Celts in game 5 while knocking down critical 3s. Also how it’s easier for him vs. Horford, with Green on Brown and Wiggins on Tatum. Game 6 probably comes down to role players who tend to do better at home–notice GS bench guys Poole and Payton combined for 29, while D White scored only 1 point on road in SF. If Boston gets more out of White and Grant and Robert Williams they will be tough.

It is easy to get spoiled when your teams constantly win. However, winning the big prize is like flav said it takes a village and some luck.

And to think it was the Warriors back in my senior year of HS in 74 that started the Bay Area championships( not including the A’s)for the future that the Giants are 49ers couldn’t do to that point. Al Attles with his crazy color suits and huge collars, his fiery coaching style, like his players motto Al the Destroyer,a collection of young(Jamal Wilkes,Phil Smith and old players(Rick Barry &Clifford Ray who I hated it cause it wasn’t Nate, but proved me wrong that year) it was extremely exciting for me to get that first championship at 17 then having to wait for 8 more years at 25, till the 49ers started their dominance, and FOREVER and I had doubts it would ever happen in my lifetime the Giants in 2010 at the age of 54 getting it done, gave me final closure on the Bay Area teams! Anything added on now is just icing on the cake 🎂..Go Warriors and let’s get that 5th overall banner hung up..

It would be 7 for the franchise,

Yeah, I’m with you. I was crushed when we traded Cliff for Thurmond. Thurmond had a couple good playoff games vs us in the WCF that year. But he also disappeared the last game iirc.

Haven’t seen a WS game live, or a Super Bowl live, but I did see game 2 of the ’75 finals at the Cow Palace.

BTW, was just checking out Bummie’s stats, and he seems to have hit a snag this season.

2-6, 3.50 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. 11 bombs given up. And AZ isn’t really a band box.

  10. unca_chuck said, on June 16, 2022 at 10:22 am

A hot start will ease the stress early and get the crowd out of the game. Steph is itching for a big game on the road. Klay will be game 6 Klay.

As usual, the game can turn on a dime when Poole subs out for Steph. The game 3 4th quarter debacle happened when Poole came in, had 2 turnovers, and missed a couple shots as the 12 point lead evaporated in 2:30.

  11. unca_chuck said, on June 16, 2022 at 11:36 am

    Game 1 I mean

  12. willedav said, on June 16, 2022 at 1:43 pm

Chuck, awesome you saw ’75 Warriors playoffs. Real strength in numbers team full of cool players behind Barry.

So far at least I think GS is out defending Celts and doing good job on Tatum and Brown their 2 mainstays and for most part holding down the others.

In spring ’76 I saw the Dubs play Lakers at Oracle, er, the Oak/Alameda county coliseum or whatever it was then.
I remember that Barry had 38 points or something like that by end of 3rd quarter. He basically didn’t play in the 4th. He was on fire that game. Dubs blew out the Lakers with Kareem. And, there was no 3 pointer then. Barry would probably have averaged 40 points per game if there were a 3 pointer back then…

  13. willedav said, on June 16, 2022 at 1:45 pm

Giants got 4 shutout no hit (!) innings yesterday from Llovera Littell and Rogers. Pitching has been so good during hot streak with few runs allowed. DeSclafani and Cobb should be back soon and hopefully take some of load off pen guys.

    • Macdog said, on June 16, 2022 at 2:04 pm

Pav tweeted Cobb will start Sunday in Pittsburgh.

  14. Macdog said, on June 16, 2022 at 2:06 pm

A’s beat the Red Sox at Fenway today, although Dubs are no longer in Oakland, maybe it’s a good omen for tonight.

  15. mrsprtdude said, on June 16, 2022 at 2:42 pm

Steph and Klay combine for 60+ tonight!!

    • Flavor said, on June 16, 2022 at 3:39 pm

Wow! You.guys sound pretty optimistic tonight. I am not. But I hope you’re right

  16. Macdog said, on June 16, 2022 at 6:36 pm

Green making a 3 maybe a good sign too. Big run to end 1st quarter.

  17. willedav said, on June 16, 2022 at 6:38 pm

Celts had early 10 point lead. GS doing better on 3s points in paint and off turnovers. Plus 3 on boards.

    • willedav said, on June 16, 2022 at 6:40 pm

Banked in 3s too. Time out Boston.

  18. alleykat69 said, on June 16, 2022 at 6:42 pm

Warriors firing on all cylinders now as Celtics look like the tired team with no life support happening..

You knew Celts not going away. A lead going in to the 4th is what we got. GO DUBS!!!

  24. Macdog said, on June 16, 2022 at 8:11 pm

Celtics had 68 at half in Game 3, took until 10 min left in 4th to get that tonight.

    • willedav said, on June 16, 2022 at 8:27 pm

Brown and R Williams only ones that came to play.

      • willedav said, on June 16, 2022 at 10:00 pm

And Horford, who helped spark 3rd quarter run and rebounded well.

  25. Macdog said, on June 16, 2022 at 8:17 pm

    Dubs are a great organization.
Starts with ownership and management. Then, to Steph Curry.
I think he’s now right there with Joe on top of the Bay Area pro sports legends.
NBA is mostly a wasteland, but Dubs make it interesting.
Bay Area very fortunate to have so much winning in its pro sports…

  37. Winder said, on June 16, 2022 at 9:37 pm

Glad for all you Warrior fans and the Bay Area. Good times.

  38. mrsprtdude said, on June 16, 2022 at 10:01 pm

“Welcome to the Warriors Invitational. It’s what we do!”
Draymond the most interesting star in sports. Steph closes it out! AWESOME
How lucky if your a Dubs fan together with the G-men 7 titles in 12 years!!!

  39. unca_chuck said, on June 16, 2022 at 10:23 pm

Man, you can really tell that this team was so fucking determined to go all the way. Through the tons of adversity and the crazy amount of shit heaped upon them from the talking heads out there in TV and blogoland, they were catching shit from everyone. Loved Steph screaming “what are they gonna say now?”

Ol’ Chuckie is just about ready to eat his big bowl of horse shit.

    4 in 8, baby!!!
