I saw in the news an athlete has died at age 25. The cause of death was listed as natural causes. I think that’s the youngest I’ve ever seen someone having the cause of death listed as “natural causes.”
Reading the Churchill biography last night I came across this fun fact. Churchill liked to paint, but he only did one painting during WWII. He painted a scene in Morocco when he and FDR were there for a war conference. He then gave the painting to FDR as a gift. After FDR died, FDR’s family eventually sold the painting, and it changed hands a couple of times over the years, and ended getting bought by Brad Pitt (!) in 2011 for about $2 million. He gave the painting to Anjelina Jolie as a gift in 2011.
No longer with Pitt anymore, she sold the painting in 2021 for $11.5 million.
No, it’s just a sentimental view of a mosque. But it’s Casablanca, a place with some cachet even then, I guess. Superficial Churchill reverence seems common in Hollywood, a sort of secular Scientology. One year after the meeting in Morrocco, Winston met secretly in Moscow with Stalin to sketch out terms for the division of Eastern Europe after the war. (Any oils from that tryst?) Two years later, post A bomb, etc., he was in Truman’s home state, Mo., bellowing about the evil Soviets and their “Iron Curtain.” Fairly soon thereafter, he and the CIA presided over the coup in Iran (not touching the tractable shah they’d installed during the war — they left him — but deposing the democratically elected leftist government (oil)). These facts must be hidden somewhere in that 1000-page trough of flattery. The loss of FDR really changed the path of history.
Giant announcers think Will Clark has a case for the Hall of Fame and might one day make it..
Even stupider, they said the same thing about Longoria a few weeks ago…
Huh, Mike Aldrete highlight. His nephew, Carter, lighting it up at High A Eugene according to story couple days ago in Athletic. Went to coaching staff where he lives in Arizona in offseason and worked on new swing every day, vids etc. Paying off so far.
My criteria has always been, if Harold Baines is in, why not Dale Murphy? Or Will Clark? Or Jack Clark? Or Longo? Or fucking Matt Williams?
At least they had moments where they were the most feared guys in the league. Baines was what? 3000 hits? No. 400 HRs? No. MVP? 9th place in 1985! 6 time AS in 22 seasons. Never led the league in anything.
Baines got in the HOF from a veteran’s committee that had La Russa on it. La Russa was Baine’s manager on the White Sox. The rest of the committee didn’t want to argue with red-a## La Russa.
It’s like a postcard. I’ll bet written in ink on the back is: “Dearest Franklin, I’ll make a deal with Stalin with or without you. Consider it closely. Love, Bulldog.”
It was cold-blooded how Ron Santo wasn’t allowed into the Hall until the year after he died. It was as if the voters were saying “We think you’re good enough to be in the Hall, but not quite good enough to enjoy it while you’re still alive.”
I’ll have to admit that these #Giants fans have been really great with their interactions with me here on Twitter. I really appreciate their support of what I play for their own players! I don’t know if I’ll get the same response with the series starting on Friday. 😉

most other major sports that way now too Zum. Basketball goes year round with club teams and AAU starting by 6th grade. You name it–soccer volleyball boys girls. Is what it is these days. Coaches sell the one sport specialization, early.
my younger son played travel ball with other Berkeley/Oakland hotshots. It wasn’t all that expensive. Once you get invited, there are ways to make it happen. Best player from that time, great kid, my kid’s friend, got compared to A. Judge at one point, recently got dumped by the Brewers’ system, I think. Some of the private leagues are more exclusive, and expensive. Tech dad neighbors of mine in Piedmont paid a lot to join, and to pay good salaries to the coaches in, a league based in Palo Alto because they didn’t want to compete in the Oakland LL. I don’t think any of those kids got compared to A. Judge.
Someone please explain to me why McGee is in there to right handed bat after right handed bat. Did not make much sense to me why Doval pitched last night up 4 runs…
Fuck. I understand the numbers crunching, I understand the odds. But when an aggressive team neck and neck with you in the WC race gets runners on base in the 9th I think you need to be ready to hold them on first and to throw them out at 2B. None of that seems to be part of the plan when Rogers is pitching, no matter how intense the situation may be. The numbers tell you not to worry about it, I guess. Fuck.
Contending teams almost always need a Pen correction in the middle of the season. This season will be no different for the Gyros. They may need 2 new arms. And, a Pen management review by the field and Front office staff…
not disagreeing with you but that won’t be an easy fix–how many other contenders will be trying to do exact same thing, including LA? Giants top prospects at High A ball mostly. Hate to give up next Bryan Reynolds, with all the old guys they need to replace among position players, for a rental.
Yep, all contenders try to pick up at least one arm for a role in the Pen around AS break to trade deadline. Not saying there won’t be competition for arms. But, plenty of teams (8 at least) headed for 100 loss seasons will be ready to deal…
Well, more troubling to me is the defense. Or the lack of it. Mistake after mistake.Belt should have had the grounder, but that’s a tough play.
Slater lollygagging the throw to 2nd base as Ozuna tags is inexcusable. The fucking catcher steals on Rogers. Those were the tieing and lead runs.
The pen? Well, make Doval the closer and live with it. This multiple role shit has to stop. Rogers gets 7, Littlel 8 and Doval 9. The rest can scuttle around for scraps in the 6th-7th.
Ahhh, didn’t realize we have 4 in Atl then Cincy, Detroit, and CWS at home. TIme to make hay.
Braves 16-7 vs. LHP, one of top records in NL. See if Rodon can shut them down.
1. Joc Pederson (L) LF
2. Luis Gonzalez (L) RF
3. Wilmer Flores (R) 3B
4. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
5. Darin Ruf (R) DH
6. Mike Yastrzemski (L) CF
7. Thairo Estrada (R) SS
8. Tommy La Stella (L) 2B
9. Austin Wynns (R) C
P: Carlos Rodon (L)
I think they pick batting orders out of a fuckin hat…
Gonna need a bigger hat.
Tony Siragusa dead at 55…
55, that’s really sad. Really enjoyed him being on field during games, funny engaging guy and not full of himself
Pads get 4 off Bum in bottom of first after 2 out error loaded bases. Took him 40 pitches.
Bum still in there in 3rd, down 6-1. Faced 15 batters/given up 7 hits, 4 earned.
All 7 hits are singles.
Watching some of the other games, you do see lots of teams have at least one young exciting position player. The Giants haven’t had that in a while.

Is it any good?

Still the worst TV commercials: people talking about their fast food.
Fast food should just be eaten in quiet shame.
Am I the only one really surprised that Pederson is currently #3 in NL outfield All Star voting?
Why? It’s a popularity contest.
“In-Estrada-Da-Vida”. Mac, that was fucking awesome.
Post of the year.
Yeah Mac “In-Estrada-Da-Vida” Solid Gold!!
Damn. Jaylon Ferguson, LB for the Ravens died. 26.
Yaz bomb!!
‘Whip it’ for Belt.
Rondon looking sharp, 2 punch outs, good pitch count, hoping 7 strong tonight and his usual 98 pitches..
Giant announcers think Will Clark has a case for the Hall of Fame and might one day make it..

Aldrete has a WS ring from his final ML season – 1996 Yanks…
For a Stanford man Fleming just isn’t to bright..
Pretty soon he will pushing Stanford boys Austin Slater are Ryan Garko for HOF considerations..

Never got why he made it.
One of the worst selections ever if not THE worst…
Ruf Ruf Ruf!!
Baines got in the HOF from a veteran’s committee that had La Russa on it. La Russa was Baine’s manager on the White Sox. The rest of the committee didn’t want to argue with red-a## La Russa.
The Churchill painting I mentioned is at this link. A good painting by an amateur painter. But, clearly, only sold for millions of dollars because of Churchill’s fame.

It’s like a postcard. I’ll bet written in ink on the back is: “Dearest Franklin, I’ll make a deal with Stalin with or without you. Consider it closely. Love, Bulldog.”
Jeff Kent and Dale Murphy should both be in the HOF
And why is Tim Raines in the HOF??
For his record breaking cocaine use…
Playing “Let It Snow” for Thairo.
I don’t get it…
Estrada reaches on an error, there’s a switch.
Be nice to see Yaz poke it into LF.
“Michael Row The Boat Ashore” for Yaz.
This guy’s gotta go…
It was cold-blooded how Ron Santo wasn’t allowed into the Hall until the year after he died. It was as if the voters were saying “We think you’re good enough to be in the Hall, but not quite good enough to enjoy it while you’re still alive.”
That will be Pete Rose’s fate.
I could totally see that happening.
Yeah, book it.
Ah, very cool. Thanks for posting that, Loo.
Sure, Zum!
It’s a 4 game series, 5 ABs a game. Got to be a shit ton of songs to wade thru,.
Vogs still has game face.
His son is Exhibit A of how the sport has turned into an expensive thing to compete in. Lopez mentioned Vogs’ son plays travel ball.

How Much Is That Doggie In The Window for Ruf.
Raines&Baines and lines of cocaine were their wake-up music..
Rodon still throwing 97-98..
At em ball on slider always helps.
At ’em ball then Adam K.
do NOT hang sliders to these guys.
Sensation-al!
Longo cracked that one off the wall and LaStella beat the shift.
weird this guy Minter takes scenic route back to mound after every pitch.
Every ball put into play by Estrada is like he’s hitting off Rogers.
definitely not hitter Barrels was.
yikes McGee erases insurance run.
According to cbs site Giants saw 147 pitches by Braves, with 6 hits 0 BBs 1 HB.
And 14 Ks.
Damm you McGoo!!
96 gravy fastball
As typical Kapler nobody warming up
Ozuna’s bounced back nicely from strangling his wife…
Belt whiffs the grounder, Slater gets surprised.
McGag
McGoo is throwing fuckin BP…
Pen is a problem.
Amusing — McGoo back to his old tricks.
Farhan needs to work on Pen improvement before the trade deadline…
Fucking Slater lollygagging that throw.
8 fastballs to the first fuck. Haven’t had a clean 9th in a while
Game over, man.
Is there a Xenomorph on deck?…
This isn’t going to end well again, screw Kapler
Strike 4
Someone please explain to me why McGee is in there to right handed bat after right handed bat. Did not make much sense to me why Doval pitched last night up 4 runs…
This umpire is a disgrace
I bet Rogers will benefit tremendously when the robo umps arrive.
Strike 5
Why are the Giants so surprised that the Braves are taking bases.
Rogers gets it done, again.
For the other team…
Wow. Brilliant.
The ump with the assist.
What an all-around awful inning
Starting with the strike 3 to Wynns.
Ha, I hadn’t factored that in.
Ballgame as anticipated fuck Kapler and his stupidity!!!
Farhan and Kap really need to get their heads together about how to deal with this Pen.
It ain’t looking great lately…
That one hurt. Had lead couldn’t close deal.
Kapler is really Hosing the bullpen management
Nauseating

Yeah, those two extra bases were infuriating, although ump did screw Rogers out of K before it got to full count.
Fuck. had stop listening on radio B9. Glad I missed it.fuck!!
What’s wrong by not giving Garcia a try late? He’s been pretty solid all year. Tired of seeing the Breebia,Littel& Leone always blowing up.
