Woo hoo?
They got a win. I mean, barely, against maybe the worst team that MLB has seen in a decade (or longer). This season already feels like a tired grind and it’s not even July yet.

have no recollection of this.
I was doing my post State graduation Euro trip. Was probably in Germany that day visiting relatives in Heidelberg…
Torture!
April this season Giants went 14-7, including 8-3 on road thrashing Nats Guardians etc.
May and June combined=26-26. Run differential of plus 1 over 2 month span.
That’s just what SF feels like to me, .500 team. In a league with 7 non competitive teams.
Don’t see how pitching holds up. I get not paying Gausman $100 mil but when Rodon leaves for same reason, who is behind Webb you can rely on?
Let me add to that: Giants record on May 14 when Dubon got traded: 20-12. Since then: 20-22. And we got nothing in return, because Papierski got cut from the Rivercats.
Couple nice plays from Yaz including tremendous catch. Estrada bouncing couple throws to 1b hmmnn. I thought he mostly played SS earlier in career.
Estrada is under some pressure it seems. He’s not the wonder boy he was last season. Also, he saw what happened to Dubon, getting traded, even though he was an asset, so he might be thinking that his position isn’t really secure, because Zaidy seems to be willing to trade anyone anytime for any reason, even if that reason isn’t going to help the team. Dubon got traded because some injured players were coming back and he was the odd man out, but then there were more injuries, and those who took Dubon’s place on the roster haven’t cut it, whether Papierski or Walton.
Dave Stewart… Piercing eyes that would burn a hole in opponents faces( like the scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark melting faces as eyeballs swivel up)
Fernando Valenzuela…Penny’s from Heaven look, always staring up to Heaven during his delivery like he’s thanking the good lord that he made it to the big leagues.
I just find it baffling that Kapler, such a lefty/rightie matchup guy, goes with Brebbia to face 4 lefty batters. He gives up 2 doubles and a run.
Leone shits the bed after getting 2 quick outs, and Kapler lets him walk the bases loaded around a near-bases clearing rocket to the gap that Yaz caught.
Agree Chuck ..
I’m wondering the hatred that Kapler has built up to LHP Jarlin Garcia who’s been lights out most of the yearERA 2.36 Whip good as well, but seems to pitch maybe 2 times a week? Cause he’s certainly more effective then Littel,Leone,Rodgers.Does he think he can’t face 3 batters ( new rule unless you finish out a 1 batter inning)cause he sure tries using him only with the Javy Lopez specialty days approach. He’s not hurt are is he?
I do think Kap has ears of the FO and tries his best to make do with who he has.. Giants acquired Luis Gonzalez and signed him in December and he’s filled in for GD and Wade Jr as LH OF. He’s been short RH bat so they picked up Mercedes and they tried Ramos briefly. Ramos at last look hitting .208 with OPS under .700 in Sac,
The big guy might add some power they aren’t getting from others..
They’ve tried to fill holes on IF with injuries etc. to old guys with Williams Padlo Walton etc., to not much avail. They also found an OK backup with Wynns, who has been improvement over Bart.
And on May 14, a RH bat was dealt away: Mauricio Dubon’s. And we got nothing for that trade, as Papierski couldn’t even cut it in Sacramento. Dubon’s stats as of May 14 as a Giant: played in 21 games, starting 9, 1 at 2b, 3 3b, 4 ss, 14 cf. DH 1, PH 5, PR 2. Batting average .240, 23 hits at 96 AB, 3 hrs. 15 RBIs, 1 stolen base. Those are better stats than many of the current Giants. Hit a homer on June 20 that was crushed. I’ll never forget that homer last season in May against the Dodgers. HE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN TRADED!
I could not fine the batting average, ABs, on anything else up to May 14, so I have those stats for up to today for the whole season as a Giants and Astro, except for the games played, positions, how many times he DHd, pinch hit or pinch ran for the Giants, not the Astros.
Wade Jr. activated and in starting lineup, Mercedes back to Sac per slush.
1. LaMonte Wade Jr. (L) RF
2. Mike Yastrzemski (L) CF
3. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
4. Joc Pederson (L) LF
5. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
6. Thairo Estrada (R) SS
7. Tommy La Stella (L) DH
8. Donovan Walton (L) 2B
9. Curt Casali (R) C
P: Alex Wood (L)
Donovan Walton is batting .161. Dubon is batting .240, and if I could find it to verify, I think he was batting .250 when he got traded. Just asking, who’d you rather have on the Giants right now?
Longoria starting to heat up. 11-35 3 bombs 5 BBs. slugging at .504 OPS at .840.
Yeah, one bright spot. Just wondering if he can stay healthy the rest of the season. Let’s see if Crawford can come back and start seeing the ball like he did last summer. Same with Belt. The drop-off this year, not just at bat, but in the field too, is unbelievable. Belt seems to have let a few get by him this season. Let’s face it, both Brandons could be over the hill and past their sell by date.
More dubious defense, this time by Wade, Jr.
Gyros have to somehow fix the defense, else that is a big problem that is hard to overcome…
Yeah, that was pretty ugly by Wade on that ball. We’ve wasted a few oppos already so we got to start hitting.
All the talk of the wind blowing to LF was bullshit. Longos ball was doinked to right, and the balls to left wwere blown back and to the right.
As I was typing that my thought was “Kennedy” and then “Seinfeld”
.
JFK’s head went back and to the left.
And they’re still writing books about it…
Since they still feel they have to honor LaStella’s contract as a DH only since he obviously can’t take the field, do they really need to keep Walton around once Craw comes back? Why can’t Villar get a crack for multiple infield spots and some RH power off the bench are a DH gig? Guess the answer lies is that he’s not on the 40 man roster for some stupid reason..
oh F. Kap leaves Wood in there and yikes.
Well I guess Wood wasn’t good after all, after the quick visit by Kapler saying I’m good, Damm if you do, Damm if you don’t that’s baseball sometimes..
Yep. Story of Mr. Kotter’s season.
“You good?” “I’m good!” “Ok!”
uh oh. Entertaining theater; bad decision. I think Kap should’ve listened to his AI there.
I wish Yaz had started in RF. He’s really learned how to play that position at home — not a negligible achievement. Kap shouldn’t listen to his AI there.
Yaz is the best the Giants have ever had playing RF at this park and that includes Pence imo..
So where should Wade have started today? AI and Alfred E wonder. DH, I say.
I’m not knocking Kap sticking with Wood there, he got the DP, game still tied a runner on 3rd,and Kap usually jerks him out for far less reasons, so it didn’t work? He will now get back to yanking him quicker now though..
OK Flemming just said it. “you don’t want to lose Joc Pederson.” Seems like a Roberts move.
Dude, it’s the 6th inning and now your best hitter with most HRs is toast.
Pederson lined double opposite way vs. Tigers LH starter last night. Tigers making plays in field today, gotta give them credit.
So, we going 2-4 vs the worst teams in baseball at home.
Check.
Nothing like the heart of the order coming up..
LaStella,Walton&Casali yikes 😳
At least Rogers came in for the 7th, not the 9th.
If you’re team loses 4 of 6 at home to two bottom feeders, you can no longer say your team should make hay against the bottom feeders. “Should” turns to ” if “…
Uh oh.
Bases loaded…
Kruk..And that’s a mistake walking Flores, no shit.
Just as dumb we he always says well there’s an open base at 2nd are 3rd you don’t have to pitch to this hitter .
Even when it’s the lead run advancing up a base?Uh No!
Yaz beat it wearing Belt’s shoes..
Uh
This would be Joc .
K from Slater vs RHP.
Ludicrous. I can see with a 1 run lead as a defensive replacement but not behind.
Joc won’t be here next year.Kapler has made sure of that dicking him around to much, pulling him early in games, wtf a lot!!
Joc wasn’t gonna be here anyway, but yeah . . . .
I really don’t get Joc not being in there most of the time to hit, he runs into ones from LHPs more than once in a while, and he’s got power. And he’s not a bad OFer, he’s more than decent…
it’s fucking stupid overmanaging. He’s literally our most dangerous hitter and Kap is fine with burning him up for 1 at bat in the middle of the game. Dense.
Flemming (backed up by Krukow) was talking about the benefits of having Slater up leading off an inning vs. LHP when he backtracked for a second and said what I quoted. Then made more excuses with K behind him all the way.
.
This is what frustrates me about beat writers and guys who do blogs (like Brisbee and others)=they won’t call the team out when shit happens and when you get after them others say you’re an a-hole and only a fan on dark side and that mgmt can do no wrong. There’s always an excuse.
I was glad Baggs said what he did the other day, but he’s on an island for wondering if fans are being let down. One of the best things I’ve read.
I will give Slush this much credit for saying to one guy on twitter that as a reporter she can only ask the questions and it’s up to Kap to answer them.
It’s impossible to sensibly second guess every match-up success or failure, but why not, huh? And it’s not much fun to believe we’re smarter than Kap and his two dozen coaches and innumerable analysts, but why not, huh? I know Slater’s splits this year v. RHs & LHs are pretty equal, so . . . . Fuck that barstool bullshit.
Baggarly’s excellent article about the peculiar doldrums the Giants franchise finds itself in had little to do with Kap’s mistakes, which, including the comic gaffe with Wood today, are never his alone. Baggarly, among other things, wrote about how stale the stadium experience is compared to other franchises. It’s as if the Giants really don’t care, right now. Their biz plan does not include the spirit of, or revenue from, old fans. They’ll revamp the fan experience sometime in the future when we’re propped up in a bed sucking oxygen and happy to see the blurry game on a big screen across the room. They’re in no hurry.
It isn’t every decision. It’s the decision to pull Joc early in games. It has happened numerous times.
Sure, it was funny yesterday when Kappy got the ok from Wood that he was fine and then gave up the 2 run bomb that lost the game but he goes against his righty lefty shit all the time with his relievers.
