A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

We Suck

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 30, 2022

Well, at least we got one…

I don’t have the biggest problem with the fact we only scored 6 runs against the Tigers, they actually have a very good bullpen. But what I can’t tolerate is that the worst hitting team in at least the last 10 years (possibly more) outhit us in our own yard 19-14. That’s embarrassing.

We are going to look back on that 107 win season someday and not believe it happened. It must have been a dream. But how could we all dream the same thing, we’ll say.

I am actually starting to hate this team right now.

No shit, I said a few days ago it is getting unwatchable to see these guys stumble, bumble, make stupid errors, and leave guys on base inning after inning, game after game. The Sore Core can’t get or stay on the field, the rotating holograms, and the walk-happy relievers all make this tedious as all hell.

And there should be guys coming up from AAA that are firmly planted in the mud of the Sacramento River.

I’ve been a Giants/Warriors/49ers fan for decades, as I’m 68. Let me tell you, I’ve seen it all. My first real memories of bad trades, and all three teams have had bad ones, was YA Tittle for Lou Cordileone during the 1961 49er pre-season. A Hall of Famer for some 2nd string tackle who didn’t last long in the NFL, and who famously said at the time this: “What? Me even for Tittle?” And Tittle said this: “They didn’t even trade a name player for me.” So, along with Sadecki for Capeda, and other trades, the one of Dubon for Papierski has to be one of the worst ever of a San Francisco team. Genius Farhan Zaidy gets that dis-honor!

Wondered what would happen if the BC all went Posey route and cashed in chips. Who plays 3b–Vosler? Estrada takes SS but who covers 2b–Walton? 1b options right now would be Ruf Flores and maybe Wade Jr. who would seem unlikely to approach what Belt did last season. Sac doesn’t appear to hold out much hope, yet.

In column in Athletic on guys for each team who could be dealt at deadline, Baggs mentions some pitchers Giants have on 40 man like Santos and he also mentions Heliot Ramos.
Fact that so far neither Bart nor Ramos have developed much at AAA is concerning.

    • ldfreitas said, on June 30, 2022 at 2:50 pm

Remember Mauricio Dubon? I’d rather still have him and not have Walton. He could play all the infield positions, and outfield too. And what did the Giants get for him? NOTHING! Papierski got cut!

    Isn’t Villar a 3rd baseman?

I missed yesterday’s game, but that doesn’t mean I can’t rant about it.

Yeah, the Joc-Slater move. Count me in who as seeing this takes the matchup strategy too far. When Kap usually does his mid-game pinch-hitting, it’s almost always with runners on base and he’s trying to seize the moment, like he did with Ruf for Casali yesterday. But to lead off an inning? OK, I get it, the Tigers had a lefty and the Giants had two lefties (Joc, Belt) to lead off the 6th down 3-1. But still, Joc has 17 bombs (and yes, all but 2 vs. RHPs); no one else on the team has double digits. Right now, Joc is tied at 17 with Betts, Cron, Ohtani and Devers. Of that group, Joc’s the only one who doesn’t have 200 ABs. And I’m guessing those other guys, especially the first three, don’t get pinch-hit for in the sixth inning.

My other issue is: why didn’t Wilmer start? Again, I get it: lefty Walton vs. a righty. Except in this case, the lefty Walton flat-out stinks. He’s now batting .161. .One-sixty-one. Wilmer vs. a righty is better than Walton vs. anybody. And this can’t be a rest issue, since the Giants had a day off Monday and another one today.

  5. unca_chuck said, on June 30, 2022 at 8:50 am

Fucking Walton. He’s up there with Fairchild as a goddamn hologram that should just fade away.

This turd-swapping is irritating as fuck. Esp when it comes at the cost of proven guys like Joc and Wilbur.

    • ldfreitas said, on June 30, 2022 at 2:51 pm

Giants record when Dubon got traded: 20-12. Giants record since: 20-22. Don’t tell me Dubon wasn’t contributing. He was.

Even though I still think Kapler is best suited as a fitness coach, he did manage us to 107 wins last year. But I do wonder if managing just by statistics has made his moves predictable to other teams? I’m not even sure how much that would help other teams, but I’d think knowing his patterns would give them an edge.

When the “Bore Core” did well last year, it was mainly attributed to the coaching staff making changes to their hitting. Could other teams have just made pitching adjustments this year and now the batters, besides being another year older, are behind again? It seems like most of the players from last year are struggling this year, so does the hitting philosophy need to be more fluid?
I think back on Bam Bam’s conga line approach. Hitters like Duffy, Panik and even Specs, thrived hitting to the opposite field, but their stats after 2015 started to plummet when teams began shifting those guys like they were left-handed hitters.

The mental errors in the field have also been killing the team this year and that isn’t just the old and in the way guys. Not sure what’s up with that.

There is still time to right the ship this year and given that next year is a contract year for Zaidi, does he go for broke and start making big trades now?
I’m hoping the rest of the season won’t just be tryouts for the kids and the old waiver wire shuffle.

The best chance the org had at avoiding the current scenario on offense was to not hold on to Belt and Crawford, replacing them with younger FAs.

    • unca_chuck said, on June 30, 2022 at 9:44 am

Well, not too many people were wishing for that after last season’s resurgence.

  9. unca_chuck said, on June 30, 2022 at 9:43 am

It would also be excellent if Belt, Shorto, and Crawfish all retired en masse.

  10. unca_chuck said, on June 30, 2022 at 9:52 am

This isn’t about FAs James. It would have been stupid to replace the Sore Core with another batch of FA rentals. The org is playing it like last year did not happen and the rebuild is going on.

This is about waiting for Farhan’s draft choices to make their way through the system.

This is about Villar, Luciano, Bishop, Matos, Harrison, Hjelle, et al.

Fucking Ramos is barely registering, along with Bart, and they are Sabevans guys.

    • Bozo said, on June 30, 2022 at 10:09 am

I’m pretty sure Villar, Luciano, Matos and Hjelle are also Sabevan guys.

      • unca_chuck said, on June 30, 2022 at 10:42 am

Ahhh, missed by a year. Thought they fired Evans in Sept. 2017.

    • James said, on June 30, 2022 at 10:12 am

I understand there’s a long term plan, and that it would have been nearly impossible to decline the services of Belt and Craw. I’m not necessarily talking about rental FA’s. I meant players like Freeman and Correa.

The big joke with the Giants they don’t even consider David Villar a prospect. They didn’t even invite him to ST, he is tearing it up at Sac in homers and RBI’s yet they won’t add him to the 40 man roster! He can play 2B,3B DH but it doesn’t matter in the organization, he’s just a AAA filler in their delusional minds. They will probably trade him for a bag of balls, and watch him take off big for another team..

Speaking of ex Giants..Brian Reynolds 3 HR day yesterday for Pittsburgh, yeah the Giants screwed the pooch on a Centerfielder and A/S caliber player..

    • unca_chuck said, on June 30, 2022 at 10:43 am

For 2 months of a fucking worthless McCutcheon.

    • unca_chuck said, on June 30, 2022 at 10:45 am

Hey, he’s only an 11th round pick. ANY other team would promote the guy just to see what happens.

Been wondering why they don’t call his ass up for 2 months now.

  12. willedav said, on June 30, 2022 at 10:43 am

Luciano isn’t playing due to back problems, and some of the Eugene guys (like Matos and Pomares) just starting to hit a bit, Bailey too. Hard to trust Sac numbers since that’s so hitter friendly league. Ramos did go 3-5 there yesterday. Bart had 2 singles/2 Ks as they won 9-7. They were in Reno which is kind like Coors West.

Trying to keep up with IF Will Wilson who got promoted from Richmond to Sac but hasn’t played much, only 7 games. He had played mostly SS in AA ball, moved around a bit for Sac Not hitting much yet, 5-23 1 BB 9Ks.

    • Bozo said, on June 30, 2022 at 10:59 am

Hope Wilson pans out, Zaidi ate Zac Cozart’s $12.7 mil contract to get the guy.

      • Flavor said, on June 30, 2022 at 11:44 am

that move was suspect at the time and looks downright dumb now

      • willedav said, on June 30, 2022 at 2:05 pm

yeah didn’t like that move either. Hope he works out.
btw there is a SS Shane Mathews hitting .297 at Richmond with .503 slugging and ,932 OPS, but he’s made 14 errors already there.

  14. snarkk said, on June 30, 2022 at 12:47 pm

The issue is that the hole in quality high level draft picks of the last years of Sabevans that should be ready at AAA just isn’t there, apparently. ZMan and crew apparently have no faith in AAA players there now, only in their own picks at the lower levels that have been delayed a year at least, by Covid. Why else would they constantly be spitting on internal AAA players, and instead getting these rent-a-dudes from other organizations?…

  15. willedav said, on June 30, 2022 at 2:13 pm

Kawakami said in Athletic he thought Z would go out and spend some $$ on THE right guy. Dunno who that might be or if he’s in system, but Giants need to find the next legit superstar player. long history of franchise icons leading the way, from Will Clark through Bonds to Cain Lincecum Bum yada yada. Without Posey no one really stands out as face of franchise and draw for fan base.

    Earthquake for Pac12.
UCLA and USC reported finalizing terms for move to Big10 in 2024.
    Why?
    $$$, of course…

What?!? That’s seriously fucked up. Then again the NCAA might as well be the Vatican in the 1200s. Might makes right.

More details on USC and UCLA.
The Pac12’s current media rights deal ends in 2024.
It’s all about USC football, and UCLA will come along to keep up the LA rivalry.
Those east coast roadies are going to be long…
      https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/usc-ucla-planning-to-leave-pac-12-for-big-ten-in-2024-with-announcement-imminent/
That leaves a mortally wounded Pac “10”, IMO. They’ll have to re-align somehow, to get at least as good a $ media deal as they have now, which sucks. Nobody in LA or most of the rest of the country is going to watch Cal/Stanford or WA/Wazoo or Oregon/OSU if they are irrelevant to USC/UCLA. Hell, the Mountain West will be a better league than the Pac10

one thing I wasn’t expecting today: a rabid Dubon fan to showing up randomly at the Flap. And it’s the first time he’s ever posted. Hey man, the last 12 years didn’t do anything for ya? LOL I’m glad you finally decided to stop lurking but in a million years I never would have guessed Dubon leaving would the thing to push you over the edge. Hang in there LDFREITAS. It’s still not even July yet we gotta hang there…..
