Happy Fourth of July!
July 4th is my favorite day of the year. Not because I’m overly patriotic. I am to a point but I hate approximately 40% of the people who live here so it’s not really about the flag flying though I do love those colors on this particular day….
But really, it’s just an awesome day. Sun. BBQ. Community. Baseball. Hell, Joey Chestnut. I love all of it. Katie and I are going to a town picnic today, I hope you guys do something that makes it a great day.
Kokonuts and I play wordle together and text eachother our results daily and I was lamenting how random the words have been lately and the convo turned to our Giants.

Facing Bum tonight in AZ. Currently 8th WC and behind Phils after disastrous homestand.
Baffert returns to barn in Santa Anita, readying horses for Del Mar and Los Al.
saw something interesting in Athletic, blogger claiming Farm director Holmes is villain (like Barr under Sabe/Evans) for system not drafting well nor developing homegrown ML ready prospects other than Webb. That’s current problem, lack of suitable replacements on field for underperforming old guys, and dearth of starting pitching at top level. Not sure how spending $$$ would have fixed much of what’s gone wrong this season since lot of FAs haven’t done more than Pederson has.
Everything I’ve read in Chron or other blogs has natives getting restless and tuning boring Giants out.
Slush says she’s hearing “rumblings” Villar getting called up to join team in AZ.
I am ready for football. Looks like Bay Area baseball is a total wash. Maybe some good will come out of it.
Happy 4th everyone.
De Sclafani out for year so he goes on 60 day IL and Villar on 40 man.
Good. Disco was dead, man. One ankle, two, it didn’t matter. And I’m excited about Villar. Kinda reminds me of the day we acquired Kevin Mitchell 35 years ago tomorrow. lqtm. Jesus has that really been 35 years??????
Mitch even helped them on way out the door. Seattle gave Giants Mike Jackson and Billy Swift in Mitch deal end of 91. 4 and a half years he hit 143 HRs for Giants.
i’ll be moderately positive about this Villar guy but he’s 25 and an 11th round pick. Worse for him, the Giants are hardly a team that is tolerant with the guys they call up. He better be stroking bombs right out the gate or he’s gone.
You know who else was drafted in the 11th round? Adam Duvall. And the Giants couldn’t wait to trade him.
Villar is up, officially.
Will play 2b today…
Slush says Crawford can come off IL tomorrow and should be ready to go. RF is live part of the yard in AZ iirc.
1. Austin Slater (R) CF
2. Wilmer Flores (R) 1B
3. Darin Ruf (R) LF
4. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
5. LaMonte Wade Jr. (L) RF
6. Yermin Mercedes (R) DH
7. David Villar (R) 2B
8. Curt Casali (R) C
9. Donovan Walton (L) SS
P: Carlos Rodon (L)
Yous tremski must be ailing.
Bring up a minor leaguer and plug him in at a position he’s not really accustomed to. Brilliant. Maybe the AI says he’ll be shifting into short RF half the game.
The Rev! Pence doing game with Flemming.
More like an Edsel.
“Flo throws it just a little bit high.” Hunter’s basically a very kind person.
Rodon doesn’t cover bag at first in time.
Walton acts again like he’s never played shortstop and doesn’t cover 3rd when Longo comes in to make a play from third.
Can anybody play this game?…
Walton went to 2B for a possible force play on the lead runner there. I don’t know what Villar was doing.
And another error.
Casali catches the “no D” disease now.
Keystone Kops defense — leads to yet another run this frame…
Nice play by Walton to end 5th. Battle of pens from here on out.
Mercedes got his hacks in and wound up with double down the line to LF.
Not gonna be enough as pen gives up couple more bottom 8. 8-3 AZ yikes.
They’re non-competitive.
Gyros slowly sinking in the West.
I would gladly take Dubon over Donnie Walton or whoever he is is — headed for DFA soon.
Villar looks like he knows what he’s doing up there at the plate — keep him playing.
This is a crap team of has beens and nobodies …
Aurelia says SS Walton breaking to 2B on the drag bunt was the right move — hard bunt might’ve turned into a DP — but he failed to go hard to 3B after the play went to 1B. And it all would’ve been moot if Wilmer held onto the ball and moved toward the runner to freeze him at 3B.
Bad instincts; they’re utility players without sharp tools.
Padres will wear their new City Connect jerseys Friday, hosting Giants. Saw short vid on @Padres,with Santana version of Tito Puente’s Oye Como Va playing, including Carlos nice solo. Nicely done and unis/hats ain’t bad either.
Always slightly ambivalent about Santana’s covers — Tito Puente, Babatunde Olatunji, Peter Green.
Or even the Zombies
