Who’s Going To Step Up?
It’s interesting to hear Kap and then Rodon go public with their calls for more energy and a different attitude form the team. In the “old days” that would never get said. We’d just hear about how these guys are pros, they’ve been here before, never get too high or too low, etc…There is some truth to that in baseball. It’s 162 games, you don’t need to blow your entire load every game.
But I do think there is too much “trust the process” with this team. They won 107 last year. That’s great. We knew then they weren’t really a 107 win team and I don’t think anyone thought they’d win close to that this year. But now everyone just seems to be looking around waiting for something to happen. Belt/Crawford/Longo….those guys are NEVER going to be the guys to shake up a team with their energy or an attitude change. It’s not who they are.
So…..who’s going to do it?
Luciano, Bishop, Matos, Hjelle. It ain’t these guys.
At least Villar cracked one off RF fence off Bum. I don’t think Giants hit another ball that hard all night.
Yeah seen lot of energy level/intensity stuff talked about. Talent level is another story altogether. If Casali oblique is messed up, lot more of Bart on horizon.
Gonzalez had good energy too. Slush said he was doing baserunning drills in SF and “could start a rehab assignment soon.”
I don’t get to watch much of the Gigantes and went back on Sunday to watch the Sat highlights. I check into the game late Sat to see the futility but had not seen or known of Joc’s botched play until seeing the highlights. But this is what irks me about Kapler and Bichy would often do the same. After the error two runs score White Sox up 2-1 and runner on 2nd and 3rd and one out. In that situation, baseball always call for to walk the runner to first to set up a potential double play. But instead Kapler let’s Webb pitch to the batter and wack base hit. Now only one run scored but for these hapless hitters a 3-1 lead becomes insurmountable. The modern analytics bullshit disallows the Kaplers from making the common sense traditional baseball strategy to go ahead and try to set up a double play. It is a no brainer and I don’t think Kapler has one.
We have a couple of weeks before the trade deadline to figure out whether this team is just bad, or just playing badly now. Thing is, they’ve been playing pretty crappy for the last 50 games or so, after a really good start. The 2 games above .500 now is misleading, there’s been a long trend towards barely mediocre…
Wellm, this all goes back to the Sore Core not playing. They were supposed to be somewhat productive and paying. LaStella has been a huge turd, but even Crawfish is reverting to 2020/2019 ineptitude and noodle hitting. Belt is Belt. IR, IR, and more IR. Longo as well.
Were players in the 60s/70s just tougher? You’d think with all these improvements in training and conditioning, these guys would be able to withstand the rigors of playing a fucking game.
The invention of the MRI machine is a reason no one but me ever brings up.
It finds injuries no one ever heard of in the old days…
exactly. And they are better treated than with ethyl chloride freon blast.
Missed all of the last 5 games as we had a wedding to go to in Carmel Valley at Holman Ranch. My niece’s daughter. Fantastic setting and the weather was perfect. If you know Carmel Valley, it can get into the high 90s, low 100s but it was a perfect 72 deg.
Glad I missed all of the baseball. Sounds like a complete collapse. WTF with Gonzalez? Who the fuck trains these guys? Why can’t ANYONE stay healthy?
Cold nights at the home yard?
How do they stay warm in between innings?
If they crater the next two weeks, they still won’t be sellers.
No way ownership wants to look like it’s wait ’til next year for even a WC berth.
Too many games left, too much $ to be made from butts in seats for the last 70 games…
It’s crazy, but the Giants play the Dbacks 18 games out of the remaining 84 on the schedule — that’s 21+% of the games.
If we can believe Kruk/Kuip and their “seeing too much of the other team” theory, that means there will likely be a brawl or two.
Also, a likelihood of a good number of crappy games…
yes, but your 10:28 says it all. they haven’t been beating any of other chump teams they’ve been playing lately. Might as well sell off what you can and replenish AA and below, for Rodon Joc Yaz and/or pen guy or two.
I think Z/H will let old guys ride off into sunset and see how well they can fill in IF with Villars of the world.
Mr. Ed’s another guy likely to ride off into the sunset.
Might as well make him available if there’s a fire sale…
Maybe Bum can beat us 5-6 times…
Getting Bryant last year cost Giants decent AA pitcher C Kilian. Unlikely anyone on current roster will bring back a player who could help til 2024. Imo it would still be better than letting Rodon opt out for nothing and Joc sign with highest bidder next year. There are contenders Yaz or Leone could help too-why not see who that brings back instead of flailing around with 7th or 8th best record? 2019 deja vu all over again.
1. Austin Slater (R) CF
2. Wilmer Flores (R) 1B
3. Darin Ruf (R) LF
4. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
5. Joc Pederson (L) RF
6. Yermin Mercedes (R) DH
7. David Villar (R) 2B
8. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
9. Austin Wynns (R) C
P: Alex Wood (L)
Mercedes the backup catcher since they didn’t bring Bark up?
The SP has an ERA of almost 8. Small sample size of 16 innings. Went to HS in Felton at San Lorenzo Valley.
Slater, wtf?
Haircut for Crawford?
Looks a little shorter in the back…
Hunter Strickland (now 33) is with the Reds, his 8th team in the past 5 seasons…
got a vulture W for Reds the other day. Came in 9th with 2 run lead and gave up pair of solo bombs then Reds won it for him bottom 9.
Didn’t he get the save in one of the Reds’ wins at S.F.?
yeah he did Mac.
Wilmet is due for a bomb…
Bases loaded – no outs…
Joc at least gets one home, solid AB. Knocked SP out.
I’ll give Pence credit brings energy to broadcast that’s for sure.
Yeah since the rest of the team has no energy as Rodon calls them out.Yet he didn’t even cover 1st on a certain out, so he’s just as bad..
That’s the only energy coming from the Giants.
Slater should of scored on Ruf’s hit , wtf is wrong with the 3B coach? Are was it Slater being overcautious after his bone head DP he brain farted on in the First?
Agree Kat.
He looked aggravated standing on 3rd, but I’m not sure why…
Dave McKay still coaching 1b for AZ. Think he’s 72.
Flo’s a tough guy. Happy to concuss a guy if necessary. Hunter’s a bust so far; his time with Apple tv’s baseball crew encouraged too much goofiness. His insights get lost.
maybe it’s the caffeine. Kinda polar opposite of Javy.
They need Estes in the broadcast booth more. He’s good compared to Javy&Pence..
I used to think Estes and Pence might replace K&K, but now I don’t want to hear either. Estes has improved, but he’s still dull. Pence just went in the wrong direction.
Pence…It’s rare for Rodgers to get hit so hard…
Hmmm his ass as been bent over hard getting drilled this season!
Hope Doval was watching. That’s where you gotta put the slider to LHs.
5 hole…
Fuck
Giants relief pitchers should be called grief pitchers..
Giants busy giving the game away — again…
Change the catcher’s name to Losses. Fuck.
Doval may not be the answer…
And that’s your ballgame. Yes they continue to suck and play uninspired baseball..
DBax came in with worst BA in NL, .219 as a team. 11th in slugging, 14 th in OPS. 5 run rally off Giants pen.
When does football start?
Giants will be sub .500 by the break. They should sell thereafter and reconsider everything. Their system does not work when the interchangeable parts aren’t good.
Giants Pen is falling apart 6 weeks too early.
This 3 – 5 inning starter crap isn’t working, puts way too much stress on a Pen.
This thing is looking like it’s heading into ugly territory the next two weeks…
I could see Mr. Ed rejoining the Mets along with a lefty reliever (McGoo or Jarlin).
Dominic Smith could be a decent replacement for BB9…
Mets ain’t thrilled with Escobar or JD Davis.
Wilmet is a NY legend and Mets badly need lefty bullpen help.
Smith is an excellent 1B, just turned 27 and could blossom as a regular in his home state…
