No Relief in Sight
Bordom oozes from this team. There isn’t a single player I look forward to at bat. Not one. All the false excitement about Bart last week was funny to me. People want this guy to be competent so badly. Since his home run last Fri where Krukow declared this guy fixed he’s 2-15. Next.
The Dodgers are beating us with almost condescending ease.
Saw a team that wears orange & black that was young and exciting take down a hated division rival last night, and it sure wasn’t the Giants. Had a fun time at O’s-Yanks. Hadn’t been to Camden Yards in 18 years, it still looks great. At least half the crowd was Yanks fans, and they were loud and got louder as Yanks built 3-0 lead thru 4. But O’s chipped away, they stole second down 3-0 and then again down 3-1 and got it to 3-2. Took the lead in the 7th on a sac fly. And then someone named Urias hit a 2-run bomb in 8th for 6-3. The RF made tough catch on full sprint in 9th with Yanks threatening. The promising young catcher got a big hit. Bullpen was lights out too, all zeroes over last 4 innings. Not sure if this is sustainable, but O’s may be headed in right direction. All the while watching the depressing score from LA on the RF scoreboard.
Sounds like a great game and a fun time. I think everyone who isn’t a Yankee fan hates em. I know I do.
yeah one team in orange and black seems on the rise. Cool you got a chance to see them.
Well it’s about fuckin time.
40 years since their last WS appearance…
Watching us lose in LA is amplified by having to watch both an ESPN and a Fox broadcast nearly back to back. Comcast is a far superior broadcast.
Only good thing is I was able to watch the last 2. Streameast is dead and I can’t find a replacement.
ESPN especially spends so much time talking about shit that has nothing to do with the game while it is going on.
NBA has most bizarro CBA of all sports. Warrior just signed a post off Celts summer league roster to an “Exhibit 10” contract. I follow league closely, but wtf is that? I mean there are already 2 way deals, Bird rights, mid level exceptions in addition to max and rooke max extensions plus byzantine trade restrictions.
Have they unofficially given up on Heliot?
i’d be fine if we traded every young guy we have. Most never work out. Win now or at least sooner. What are we waiting for?
I agree. They need to replace the 2021 offense and, apparently, defense of Crawford, Belt, Longoria and Posey, now, not in 2025, or I’m going to get a lot better at Spanish and guitar. I ain’t spending my next 3 summers being an Orioles fan.
That’s fucking crazy talk. Win now? With what? Rodon and Joc will get us mid-level what? Prospects. You want to get Soto? Give up on Harrison and Luciano and 4 other prospects AND Webb? For what? One guy?
I wish they would just clean house.
Everyone on the ML roster but Webb and I guess Thairo should be available.
Even our “kids” are old.
Slater will be 30 before next season. Wade will turn 29.
BTW, Dubon stinking it up in Houston…
We paid decades of dues and lived to see 3 titles.
More than we ever thought possible.
Time to build for the next generation while we hobble back and forth to doctors offices…
over at MCC site they have box scores for minors.
Ramos has OPS in .650 range for Sac. Guy with best OPS there is SS/2b Isan Diaz, not lot of pop though.
IF Casey Schmitt (3b/SS) doing well at High A Eugene. SS named Matheny only guy in Richmond over .800 OPS. Kyle Harrison did have 3 no hit innings there after pitching in Futures game earlier in week.
Even if both Belt and Longoria aren’t around next year, other than Estrada and maybe Villar (and last year of Craw), gotta wonder who plays where in IF. Would they keep both of Ruf and Flores? LaStella is still owed $11.5 mil, right? You have lot of holes to fill, and i doubt Trea Turner will take one.
Pretty sad looking…
1. Austin Slater (R) CF
2. Wilmer Flores (R) 2B
3. Darin Ruf (R) 1B
4. Yermin Mercedes (R) LF
5. Thairo Estrada (R) SS
6. David Villar (R) 3B
7. Luis Gonzalez (L) RF
8. Austin Wynns (R) DH
9. Joey Bart (R) C
P: Alex Cobb (R)
That’s a guaranteed SWEEP LU right there!
Giants 26 man roster has 14 players that are 30 are close at 29 and will be 30 at the end of the season! Damm they are the oldest team in baseball! Get rid of these geriatric players and get YOUNGER!!
No Yaz no Joc. At some point you just need to put your better players out there.
Florent Geroux and Mike Smith back at Del Mar today. In second race is horse trained by Dan Blacker (husband of awesome Christina B) named Straight No Chaser…besides being good advice, also name of one Monk’s best tunes, recorded by many. miles and his sextet (Trane Cannon) do great job on classic LP Milestones.
Can’t say best but betterZzz
Electronic strike zone please. I will not miss seeing umps blow ball and strike calls.
I like how the ump at the end of the game yesterday got all dramatic with his bad call. “Strike three! Look at me, people! I’m an ump having my moment! My big dramatic strike three call to end the game! Yeah, it wasn’t a strike, but I gotta take my moment, when I can get it, am I right?”
“I wish they would just clean house.”
Well, the team execs do care about their job security. If the team can scrape into the last Wild Card spot, that’s a stronger feeling of job security than not making the playoffs.
That’s assuming the ownership group even cares all that much about the team.
Not fun watching the Dodgers kick sand in the Giants’ faces all weekend.
Gotta admire watching Opie in his 14th year. You rarely see more than one or two fastballs (at 90-91), usually early in count, and then it’s steady diet of off speed that he pinpoints on corners or just below/beyond. He’s worked on slider over the years and he just got Ruf to swing and miss one down in zone for the K. Ruf couldn’t square anything up at all even location mistake.
The team looks defeated as they walk on the field to this f’n Flodger team.
I just picked up Urias both my fantasy teams after the all-star break!!!
What I appreciated about the old school managers they would have gone ape shit after that strike three in Slater last night and then maybe to wake up this walking dead team would get himself thrown out early today. But out boy Kapler equally walking dead.
Great point!
Kotter had to conserve his energy.
It’s his lat and leg day…
Lol. I’m done with him and I think I have given up on Bart. If he can’t pick up a weak curve ball coming out of a pitcher’s hand and especially Kershaw’s with bases loaded and two out then he has no hope. I had such high expectations for him when we drafted him. We pray Luciano will be the real deal but I am done waiting on “can’t miss prospects.”
Yeah, it does take some obsessive analytical weirdness for a manager to ever choose Wynns over Pederson as the DH, no matter who is pitching.
And it sure don’t make Joc want to be here any longer than he has to…
OK, the Dodger Stadium organist gets some points for playing the intro to “I am the Walrus.”
Shocker scored more than a run and early…
Way to go Thairo!
Kershaw at 70 pitches…
made him work today last couple innings.
Lux burns them again. what a motherforya.
Kapler got llots props for last year, but seems now mostly luck. Is Villar some hot prospect like Harper, Acuna, or Soto? No? Lost on Kap is the loss of defense with Wade over Belt. Most annoying pinch hit decision Villar over Belt. GRR
Thompson the new Bellinger. Giant killer this series.
Was Kap walking out to maybe argue that ridiculous called 3rd strike on Bart before they cut to commercial?
I guess not. At least Bart was PO’d about it.
Straight No Chaser breaks maiden in 2nd at Del Mar going gate to wire on turf. Blacker family gotta be happy. She is really nice to listen to on tvg.
And Giants chase Opie, at least he won’t get the win now.
Ruf chases Opie out after the tying 2 run bomb!
There going to have tough decision on him and Flores.
I would still bring Mr.Ed back cause he’s younger and has proved it every year as a great clutch hitter that would be best as a RH DH , and occasional start, but u can’t wear him down playing too much.DH role is perfect for him now..
hmmnn. Top of order/ runner on OK high leverage in 6th. But who would follow Leone?
Quite a slide there by Joey stealing 2B. The big guy has extraordinary athleticism and strength, and yet . . .
Baseball’s tough. And Mercedes — he ain’t no AMG55 off the line, that’s for sure, yet he’s quick once he gets going, but as with that rip into the corner such a lag hurts.
That’s who Kap wanted.
If/When they get Rosenthal up, is it Rodgers that goes? I hope so.
Guy is crap, he can’t put anybody away. He comes in, they score 2 immediately after he has both 0-2.
Miller said he had reverse splits righty/lefty. But NOT this year — so why is he in against LHPs?
BTW, Giants need some OFers who actually can play OF…
Joc, Slater and Yaz aren’t terrible together.
They aren’t great. Peterson is just OK.
Yermin’s OK as a DH.
So far — given the lack of better alternatives.
So, just hide his glove…
Check that.
Rodgers now allowed 3 runs to score.
Kap basically waives the white flag with this dude…
Lux again. This guy way too comfortable up there.
Yeah just another typical screwup Leone should of had an out , that fat boy Mercedes screws up and now hit me Rodgers getting torched again as 2 runs are in as dogpile lefties tee off on him..
James tell me again how Rodgers is just as good as last year?
Rodgers is crap.
He needs to be DFA’d for Rosenthal. Stat.
And Rosie hasn’t pitched in a MLB tilt in two years…
Giants have this kid Dabovich at Sac who’s been dominating , well I say dominate up here wtf I’m tired of seeing the same old stiffs getting raked..
So, bring him the hell up…
I have never believed in side arm/ submarine throwers, Tyler needs to be gone. Kaplar needs to use his gut instinct and not rely on analytics all the time. Using Wade at first in place of Belt a gold glove 1st baseman, just say no to that. Also Kap needs to set an infield, not use utility guys all the time. Sad to see how far down coaching has gone.
Guts instead of stats? AIiiiiieeeee!
Giants really need to trade are bring up a lefty BP guy.
Alvarez out,Garcia and Long struggling, they’re no other lefty to combat the dogpile heavy lefty Lu.Then your stuck with Rodgers? who lefties are hitting close to .400 off of, easy seeing that situation blowing up.
When they play each other, the yawning chasm of talent between these two teams becomes obvious and maddening.
The Giants have to scratch and claw to score a run or two because they rarely can string 2 or 3 hits together, and only can score seemingly crooked numbers with HRs. Having hit one, off Kershaw, Ruf gets pulled for Belt on Ruf’s next AB, and Belt promptly pops out.
Giants are just mediocre no-name talent, boring ass. The musical chairs defense with guys who don’t well know how to play their position of the day just generates error after error. If they lose this one, the losing sweep will be well deserved.
From 107 back to 82 wins? Looks definitely possible…
I wish they’d held Webb back until today. Instead, My Old Friend the Blues, as Steve Earle puts it.
They made the same mistake with Bumgarner post ASG a few years ago and promptly went into a tailspin…
BTW, Longoria.
Hurt, again. Hammy.
Unlikely he’ll play much, if at all, before end of season.
He should just retire NOW, not at end of season as he’s floated w/media.
That would save me from going off on him again and again…
Fuck. The play is over for a good 10 seconds before Miller can stammer out the unsuccessful DP turn.
Fucking Jake Lam.
Bart Bart Bart. Get the bat going. Hopefully there’s a fight a’brewin’ .
Something has to get these guys going.
And Rogers is gonna get DFAed tonight. I hope. Rosenthal or no. Fuck it. All these guys have take turns sucking blue balls.
Bart is actually showing some good D, good arm.
His offense is showing signs of staying out of a Coma.
That’s the good news for this lost sweep.
Otherwise, any adjective like disastrous will work.
First loss of a 4-game sweep to LA since 1995…
That sucked.
Hope the hookers were worth the trip to LA.
Sell Sell Sell!!!
This fucking OF defense is about the worst I’ve ever seen. My daughter’s fast pitch softball team played better defense than these stiffs.
Who wants to buy any of this?
It’s like just to clear space, selling stuff for FREE on OfferUp, and still nobody wants it…
Only trade value is Webb and he’s not going anywhere..
oh gawd, that’s funny.
Bart up to .191 and just passed Villar at .190 yee haw 🤠 2 players fighting for the Loo Mendoza line..
Lowlights a plenty especially the bickering of coaches Richardson,Hallberg& Kapler over chicken shit stuff..
On to Arizona, the chapstick center of the U.S.
Flemming went on about how Mercedes has to play left field to get his bat in the lineup. No, he can DH, and Pederson, OH NO HE BATS LEFT-HANDED!!!, can play left field. Our platooned All-Star. That’s so funny and weird, I don’t even know what the heck is going on.
Thank you.
And, this Mercedes guy was DFA’d less than a month ago from the Pale Hose…
Kapler has to learn, still apparently, that a manager has to make adjustments season by season. What worked last year doesn’t necessarily work the next season.
Chuck brings up a relevant question: Who could possibly want to pay up anything of noticeable value for anyone on this shit team? Seriously, aside from Webb and Rondon, is anyone worth anything?
Thairo and Doval have some value. Not a lot, but some.
Joc and Mr. Ed would bring a little something back…
true, but they’re v. short term
Mercedes says he lost the double off the bat for a moment, thus his bad jump. I sympathize. That happened to my eleven-year-old son once.
Angry Tiger Fan has come a long way. This is a passionate video but not over the top and really good. Makes you feel what it’s like to be a fan. Loved it.
Poor Chris… this guy is too absorbed and will likely have a brain aneurysm over a perennial losing team like the Detroit Tigers are. Then again I get it some, the Giants make me feel the same way this year with an old team that constantly have to use the IL because they’re so old. They might think they’re in the W/C race 2 back but I don’t see it. And every time they should be selling they were buying( Bochy’s last year, didn’t want to ruffle his feathers are Bum, so they went shopping and that didn’t work out, when they could of got prospects for Bum instead of nothing..
Chris is autistic. He’s been very open about. After he dropped out of college he almost killed himself. He was working at a gas station hating life and he met someone who ended up hiring him at barstool sports. It’s really been an incredible story.
that is a remarkable story.
No idea how/when Giants can remedy problems they have, but…Cards lost today to 36-58 Reds, and Phils lost to the 38-57 Cubs. Cards are 2 games up on SF for last WC spot. I’m anti-polly, but they ain’t out of anything so that’s what Baer Z and Kap will have to say.
Giants next 3 games are at AZ followed by 4 at home with Cubs.
Next month (after dogs leave town) they play: Oakland Pittsburgh AZ and Colo, plus the Pads in first 3 weeks.
14 of those will be at home, plus the 2 in Oaktown where no A’s fans show up anyway.
My Reds-fan friend keeps me updated on Donnie Barrels. He helped them take a series from the yankees this week, in NY, I think.
Hey, Kat, it looks like this was a good one for me to miss today. For the record, I didn’t say Rogers was as good as last year, I said he wasn’t that much worse than last year, when he was very good, although few here gave him that much credit. He had a truly terrible outing early in the year that made his numbers look far worse than he’s been. He was obviously shitty today. It’s always easy to overlook the days a reliever does ok. Rogers has appeared in 43 games, 30 times without giving up a run.
I picked a random team, the Braves, to find another struggling reliever and saw Will Smith’s 4.04 ERA. Smith has appeared in 32 games and been scored on 14 times. Without looking too closely, it’s not a stretch to say he’s been more ineffective than Rogers. I’m sure I could find many more examples.
Too early to give up hope, but man I was hoping to have the Giants send the Flap out with a bang, and it’s looking more like whimper. Not much joy watching these guys right now. I’d play yaz, Joc, Slater every day. Is Doval hurt?
The Giants managed to make journeyman Trayce Thompson look like an All-Star.
