A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Winning Time

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 29, 2022

Finally found a team we can beat. Sweet. I read Loo’s comment last night and couldn’t believe it. Joc is about to go oh-fer July. Zero bombs.

I will ask this again: is there a single hitter on this team who’s at bats you look forward to?

Answer of course is flat NO, but Ws still matter. Pen had 2 1/3 shutout innings after Wood dominated and D was solid with nice plays by Estrada and Yaz. Nice to watch somebody else make errors and silly mistakes out there while only getting 3 hits all night.
Doesn’t hide fact Giants have valuable pieces (to other real contending teams) they could sell off that might help 2023 be little more enjoyable.

Bart. Mainly to see if he will make contact.

Oh sure in my morbid thinking I’m enjoying the AB’s of the Mendoza Boys race..
As we stand now the leader in the clubhouse is Bart..180 Wade…179 ..Villar..173
It adds something to watch to see which one breaks thru to hit .200 and pull away from the pack!

It’s not just Joc going homerless in July, it’s useless Spitty LaStella finally getting his 1st hit since June 29th (0-18) Whoopie! Only players playing swinging a good bat for me has been Slater&Estrada, with Mercedes Benz showing a little spark, otherwise 1 win don’t mean squat u can’t back it up..

I guess it’s just a year when most everything that can go wrong does. Poor defense is the most frustrating for me although strikeouts and weak grounders are right up there too. Our overall pitching has it’s moments also.

Not sure how true this is, but through the MLB link to Apple TV it says, free for a limited time, watch Friday night baseball games… We’ll see, when it was on the Peacock channel, they wanted me to pay or signup (can’t remember which), so I blew it off.

      • Bozo said, on July 29, 2022 at 12:20 pm

Not sure if that applies to the folks living in the SF market.

I wonder if Hunter Pence will be in the apple booth again. I think those people have really fucked up his broadcast style.

Apple lets you have one week free, with cancellation any time. Last game they broadcast, I figured I’d use it for a while — see Denzel and Frances McD in Macbeth, etc. — and then quit, but they never charged me. The free subscription just ended.

Don’t know if streameast streams apple TV but i think it don’t matter

Something that likely wasn’t in calculations for roster this past off season that needs to be addressed is simple fact that every other team in Division is better than they were a year ago, while Giants are just plain not.
    .
Dogs added Freeman, who is tremendous hitter, and Lux looks much improved and has been pain. They’ve gotten great season out of healthy Gonsolin and others on pitching staff, and have highly regarded farm.
Padres have played 4 months without Tatis Jr. Melvin on his own is serious upgrade and Preller might still be busy before deadline and off season.
AZ obviously is on rise and Rox aren’t near as bad as before. Both teams have narrowed gap btw them and SF considerably already.

I don’t think they need to find the next Posey level star, but you still have to have enough talent and be competently managed and win games.

Joc to concussion list after running into wall last night. Vosler up, and, um starting.
    LaStella DH
    Gonzalex RF
    Wilmet 2b
    Belt 1b
    Yaz CF
    Estrada SS
    Wade Jr. LF
    Vosler 3b
    Bart C

    Cobb P

  9. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2022 at 6:13 pm

I’m ok with a Vosler start it breaks up the 3 Mendoza hitters in Wade,Villar&Bart!
Vosler actually is hitting.268 with his brief amount of coffee time..
I’m not thrilled that LaStella with that double broke an 0-18 slide going back to June 29th, but one hit from a vet and Kapler typically salivates over it 😠..
Cobb has a 2.84 era over his last 8 starts with NO DECISIONS! Kind tells you how inept the Giants offense has been for him..

    • xoot said, on July 29, 2022 at 6:48 pm

didn’t he bench Yaz the day after the grand slam?

      • alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2022 at 6:54 pm

Yeah I think your right Xoot..
Walkoff Grandslams just don’t carry in weight anymore in Kappy’s world…

      • James said, on July 29, 2022 at 7:36 pm

Isn’t Yaz a vet? Maybe Kap was using his intuition.

  10. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2022 at 7:39 pm

Good news the Giants got 3 hits off of Stroman in the first, bad news they didn’t score as LF Ian Happ gunned down Wilmet at the plate..

    • James said, on July 29, 2022 at 7:40 pm

Wilmer was running so hard, too … he just knew Happ was going to make a perfect throw.

  11. xoot said, on July 29, 2022 at 8:00 pm

I forgot about the drone. Maybe seagulls will go after it later tonight.

  12. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2022 at 8:06 pm

Mariners acquire Reds pitcher Luis Castillo.Good for them going all in..
However they gave up 3 of their top 5 prospects including SS Noelvi Marte their #1 prospect..

  13. unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2022 at 8:26 pm

6 hits in 3 innings and 0 runs

  15. James said, on July 29, 2022 at 8:30 pm

Bart deprived us of the K catharsis.

  16. unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2022 at 8:35 pm

    Aaaaaand there you go.

  17. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2022 at 8:40 pm

Yeah after blowing there chances to take a lead,it was conventional WISDOM they would give up the first run..

  18. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2022 at 9:01 pm

Jesus Cobb is pitching like a man possessed!
11K’s in 6 innings, but damm he’s getting Cained 1-0 with an offense that just can’t get it done, what else is new?

  19. willedav said, on July 29, 2022 at 9:16 pm

I think Baggs said last night Wisdom is turning into next Wil Myers.

  20. Macdog said, on July 29, 2022 at 9:16 pm

    A Fistful of Walks.

  21. unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2022 at 9:47 pm

  32. unca_chuck said, on July 29, 2022 at 10:36 pm

Too bad Doval is just not good at closing. He’s not getting better.

    • djloo27 said, on July 29, 2022 at 10:45 pm

Yup. He looks the part but can’t seem to handle the role…

  33. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2022 at 10:49 pm

Nice to know u use your best hitter (Slater) to pinch run for Mercedes instead of Wynns, so Slater could of batted instead? Kapler sure blew that move.

  34. alleykat69 said, on July 29, 2022 at 10:51 pm

I’ll give Apple TV props on that post show Gal Siera Santos? She has great legs.

    • willedav said, on July 30, 2022 at 6:40 am

Cracks me up to see Kontos and Aurillia in suit jackets/slacks and trainers, while Laura Britt is in her stilettos.
