Cobb Robbed
What a waste of an incredible performance by Cobb. I think it’s clear that Doval isn’t closer material. He might not even be *Penske material.
Will Clark day. No i’m not going (going on Aug 2nd tho). This # retirement should have happened years ago.
However if you asked me to post a single image of what baseball means to me it would probably be a picture like this…

Joc can still be traded while on IL.
Watched Pads hit 5 bombs at Petco last night in their City Connect unis, which I like.
for those who followed along on Apple (or pirate version), who announced and how were they?
WD:
Your last comment on the previous thread reminded me of the time I brought a female co-worker to my amazing (late) chiropractor. In addition to teaching her the proper way to carry her whatever bag, he told her that high heels were the closest thing to violence against women.
It’s kind of an eww thing to watch. ESPN does this, with beautiful women like Elle Duncan in heels and short dresses doing afternoon (here) Sports Center, and Laura Rutledge on their NFL show is always in high fashion mode. alongside likes of Kontos Aurillia and the others, why should Ms. Britt bother herself?
Seems to me that most women who are “objectified” tend to objectify themselves…
Flavor, you are definitely Penske material…
One of questions about dealing Rodon away now vs. waiting until he opts out and then giving him QO in off season—will the return you get from contender for him as a rental outweigh the competitive balance pick they would get? I think not, but that pick (for Bum or Smith) was turned into Harrison.
That was one bigass foul area, wide angle aside.
No idea why they designed it that way back in ‘59 as it was strictly for baseball. Why design home plate 50’ from the stands? The huge horseshoe is stupid.
did anyone ever trip over the bullpen mounds? those outbuildings they had down there for the pen were hilarious. what went on in there in the late 70s, 80s?
They were 90 miles from the field.
Wonder if Jack “The Ripper Clark is at the ceremony today?
Giant forever wearing #22 as well!!!
Man that’s a couple badass dudes that proudly wore that number in my book!
It would be cool to have a jersey with W&J Clark on the back..
The 2 Clarks were my favorite Giants for a span of almost 20 years.
1. Darin Ruf (R) LF
2. Austin Slater (R) CF
3. Yermin Mercedes (R) DH
4. Wilmer Flores (R) 2B
5. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
6. Thairo Estrada (R) SS
7. David Villar (R) 3B
8. Luis Gonzalez (L) RF
9. Joey Bart (R) C
P: Jakob Junis (R)
Florent Geroux and John Velasquez riding at Del Mar today. Andie Biancone is there with Gabby Gaudet. Saw Britney Eurton doing interviews yesterday, and Christina Blacker at end of program when trainer husband won last race on card. Great shots of beach nearby and little breeze. Couple big stakes races later in day.
Andie B is the next Britney–hot but also rides as an outrider with a mic on doing interviews. That’s tough to do. Her dad is long time trainer, Patrick Biancone
Seems least self conscious too. Yeah saw her riding around before last race yesterday, very cool. also iirc she had both ends of last double. More I listen to her Gabby is a little annoying. Really enjoy listening to Simon Bray.
Simon is awesome. Cancer survivor and former trainer. Gabby G is usually in Florida, not sure why she’s here, she’s pointless and lame.
This turned up on one of my music timelines yesterday. Rick Derringer on lead vocals, apparently. Vibes? Why not. Don’t know who the featured dancer is enjoying herself so much. Objectifying? yeah, it’s all her fault.
It was 1965, slick.
Slightly different world.
Your condescending jerkiness was probably in its infancy…
I would not have predicted that Jeffrey Leonard would be one of the former Giants there honoring Will. They must have patched things up.
Good timing to honor Will to help fans forget the losing 8 out of the last 9…
I hadn’t made the connection to the Cubs series: Will’s great NL Championship Series vs. the Cubs in ’89.
Bochy, Posey, Leonard, Bonds, Mike Murphy, Robby Thompson, and Dave Dravecky are there.
A non-Giant Eric Byrnes is there, one of Will’s close friends.
Krukow’s opening oration was fucking great.
Yes, that was eloquence from the heart.
Kevin Mitchell is there and spoke a bit.
Roger Craig spoke via video.
And Dusty Baker spoke via video.
Orlando Cepeda spoke via video.
Messages from Marichal, Perry, and Mays were read by the MC, Kuiper.
Bonds spoke. All the speeches are pretty short, except for Krukow’s.
Then Baer. His speech is pretty long.
Will’s brother looks a lot like him. Almost his twin.
Will’s giving a cool high-energy long speech.
Showering gratitude on family, friends, teammates, and others.
I kind of underestimate that accomplishment of the Giants going from a 100 loss team in ’85 to the World Series in ’89.
Great speech by Clark. I hope that video gets posted somehow.
Those poor participation trophies!
Yeah, they get a bad rap.
well done, anthem too.
Back in day, Grover Washington Jr. used to play it at 76’ers games, on tenor iirc.
Yeah, I like instrumental versions of the anthem better than vocal versions. And that was a great one. Huey Lewis’ horn section.
I used to think Will had no chance to get in the Hall, but with some of the folks they’ve let in the last few years, it seems possible now. With that veterans’ committee, it’s gotten a bit easier to get into the Hall.
Clark beats Harold Baines in several career offensive categories, and vice versa. Several of Baines mainly due to his playing quite a few more years that Will. Clark beats Baines’ WAR by a lot. If Baines is in, Clark certainly could be, and Kent certainly should be, by far…
the difference in WAR is compelling, esp. given the length of the careers. Will blazed while he played.
Loved the way Will talked about playing at Candlestick. The description of the winds was great. Players today talk about beating the shift…one season at the Stick and they could beat the shift
Giants should have signed Will for a day and made him their DH. I would not bet against him getting a hit out of 4 ABs…
Bay Area Round Tripper!
114 EV? Joey, where ya been?
that’s huey lewis? he looks like my cpa.
He’s a bona fide mathlete:
“He attended and graduated from the Lawrenceville School, a then-all-male prep school in New Jersey,[6] in 1967, and he achieved a perfect score of 800 on the math portion of the SAT.”
well, my guy’s good enough for what I’ve got going now. I’ll keep him in mind, though.
anyone see a replay of Thairo’s beaning? Looked like the helmet took some of the impact away as it leapt off his head.
Didn’t see a replay, man, that was a scary one. Poor Thairo has taken a beating this week.
Jeez, a little too thrilling in the 9th on Thrill Day, but it’s a win.
WTF happened? Driving around and it was 5-0. I get home, 5-4. Who fucked up in the pen tonight?
No one, actually. Marte and Leone pitched well.
2 no hit innings from Rogers, credited with W. well done.
I hope I can find the speeches, too busy today.
I see Slymy took the L, Junis still on a ridiculously low pitch count?
Was in a beer line with Huey Lewis and Robin Williams at the Stick for a good 10-15 minutes when I was (very rarely) able to sneak into good seats at the Stick. Funny as all hell but I don’t remember anything they said.
The defense got a little shaky in the 9th, but the Giants held on for the win.

The Contreras AB in 9th, bases full no one out, grounder to Vosler over to Flores who then couldn’t get the DP.
Anyone notice that throw from Wilmet? Is he 100%? He sure didn’t have much on that and it sailed to Belt.
