Ouch
I just checked my emailing hoping that Stix had this thread covered. No such luck. He must be raging in a Minnesota forest.
Why does everything Rogers throw up there look so obviously hittable?

Because he’s more or less throwing a fast pitch softball…
On the bright side, we haven’t seen Luis Gonzalez pitch in almost a month.
Cobb lasted 5 on 90 pitches. followed by Marte Garcia Leone, then Rogers after Giants had tied it up. Seems like rather odd order; who would Kap have gone to had Rogers shut Pads down and game gone into extras?
Baggs said Kap was deciding btw Doval (for 3rd day in row) and Rogers as both warmed up top 9 and went to some lengths to note Rogers has allowed less hard contact and HRs than Doval yada yada. Leone and others just haven’t measured up and there were zero adds to pen at deadline. As Flav mentioned week ago, multiple Tigers pen guys were available at time, from Avila the clueless.
Fulmer woulda looked pretty sweet in that situation. Of course that isn’t dumpster diving so Z had no idea how to get him
Kapler’s so full of shit, hard contact allowed lol, seems to me Doval blew away the heart of the order the previous night Soto,Machado,&Bell without any hard contact.
Bad break Longo’s smash was caught instead of trapped, then Rodgers would of sat with his chocolate cocoa in the BP instead and Doval gets to close it out against the same 3 which would of been epic to do twice..
So what’s the deal with Bart? Unavailable with bad ankle to PH even in the 9th? And Kappy trying to fool the Padres on his availability, like that worked.10 day IL coming? Just when he’s heating up? Guess we will see MRI scheduled today…
as bad as that loss was, hey, win today and you take the series. Go get em
Dunno what’s up but Luis Gonzalez in epic slump at plate. Since he returned from 2 weeks on IL in early July, OPS has gone from .808 to .720. B/R says he’s 4-27 in August and 6-43 with ! HR. He still gets BBs and occasional bunt for a hit, but power has all but disappeared. 9 SBs, um when he isn’t getting picked off.
Did I hear the Giants were successful with 23 straight steal attempts? That blows me away!
To go along with 24 bunts for hits leading the league and Sac Flies up there as well..
I still can’t get over 18 pinch homers last season…
yeah. The great Jerry Lynch would be proud. According to B/R SABR info he still holds ML record (with 2 others including Rusty Staub) for most rbis in a season as PH, 25 in 1961 with Reds.
Loved watching great PHs, even ex Giant Manny Mota.
I was terrified of him when I was about 10…
Catching up with the great Frank Gore…
https://www.tmz.com/2022/08/10/frank-gore-dragged-naked-woman-across-hallway-by-hair-cops-say/
Oh my. Come on, Frank!! Say it ain’t so!
Watching the Mets beat up on Cincy, my god the Reds are bad. And the Giants lost 4 of 6 to that team.
1. Austin Slater (R) CF
2. Wilmer Flores (R) 2B
3. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
4. Evan Longoria (R) DH
5. J.D. Davis (R) 3B
6. Mike Yastrzemski (L) RF
7. Thairo Estrada (R) SS
8. Austin Wynns (R) C
9. Luis Gonzalez (L) LF
P: Jaob Junis (R)
flav’s 8:41 is spot on. Gain a game on Pads, once a week. 6 weeks of that, you done.
reminds me of 2010.
Junis is better SP than Manaea too
Gotta get ball down.
Wow. Read a tweet about Hader’s meltdown last night, and the Pads fans are all over Melvin like stink on shit.
They are done with him as the manager. Granted it’s the Twitterati, and there’s always a very vocal subgroup of hate, but man, the fans are on Hader for being racist, Melvin for being a shitty manager and Machado for being me-first selfish asshole.
Yee Haw! Davis dinger.
That was a nice little heist Z pulled off there.
Wouldn’t shock me if he’s our starting 3B for a few years…
Maybe one, I keep thinking they’re gonna slide Luciano over to 3B. But yes, it does look like a good move on Zaidi’s part. Is that 3 or 4 now since joining the Giants?
3 in 21 AB…
Still no HRs yet for Ruf with Mets, but he has gotten a couple of timely RBI hits.
They should let Davis play every day just to see what the change of scenery does.
Shit.
Juuuusssst a lot outside.
He should’ve fuckin said something…
Or Kotter!
And this one just for fun.
Well, I guess it evens out. Manaea threw about 4 strikes that were called balls.
Oops there it is. Thank you Soto.
Soto whifff!!!!!!
Soto!!!
🤣🤣🤣
I’ll probably regret this . . .
Soto-ooops!
Beauty.
Oh boy. Junis flirting with disaster.
Terrible pitch there Junis. He[s getting ahead of everyone and just laying dead fish out there.
Are they letting him get his pitch count up today? Get him out of there.
6 guys in a row get on.
Hmmm, should i get someone loose?
So much for that shutdown inning.
So much for our add-on inning.
Possibly final AB as a Giant for BB9…
Hey!!! Who’s your Padres?
Comeback trail. This one not over by longshot
Wynns with replacement rattles the Padres Defense for a hit and error as Yaz tied it up at 6-6!
Balk baby make them pay Gonzalez!
0-18 wow a walk looks good Luis!
Screw it steal 2nd!
Joc is due anything.
Hey!! There you go. Joc for the lead.
Not-so-Sterling Marte.
Even less.
So much for the shutdown inning. Again. All after 2 were out.
Dang, and its just the 6th inning.
And Z was like, “nah our bullpen is fine, no need to add at break”
On radio, Flem says Giants bullpen problems are “acute”…
yeah, I heard that MD jargon while driving to the market. What’s wrong with ‘severe’?
Wouldn’t be a complete shitshow without the usual sloppy defense.
Gawd this BP sucks and the follies continue, just a pathetic bunch to watch..
Jesus. This is the Keystone Kops game. 12 runs have scored on errors.
Maybe the plan is just to wear the Pads out.
Pads missed the extra point in the 3rd.
Keep on adding on Padres I want a platoon player pitching..
I want to see Kapler come in to pitch.
Wow. Bring me the head of Alfredo Garcia.
Pads bat around with 2 outs. Fuck this team. 2 inning ending grounders would have kept the lead. But no. 7 fucing runs.
John, did you ever play with the Internationals (or knew one of the band members, Stevie McGinnes or any other member)? They usually played at Ricky’s Swiss Chalet in Palo Alto?
How about the Mentors? My friend in Wig Torture played with them a few times. As well as Faith No More.
Il Duce of the Mentors was famously quoted a bunch of times by Tipper Gore for his insanely graphic sexual lyrics in the congressional music ratings bullshit.
The issue that put John Denver and Frank Zappa on the same side of the spectrum. Rocky Mountain High was banned by some radio stations as (like 8 miles high before it) being a song about drugs.
Derp.
Zappa showed up on KPFA radio back then to publicize his efforts. They played clips of his very effective testimony before congress and explored the issues. Then Zappa sat for a while discussing his career. He spoke at length about his admiration for and collaboration with the Russian-born refugee composer Nicolas Slonimsky, who wound up in LA. I don’t remember if the KPFA guy or Zappa brought the LP, but they played a long Slonimsky piece that incorporated a typewriter and a cat. iirc, one musician sat in a chair caressing the pet until it was time to pull the tail. I’m sure many animal-loving KPFA listeners were outraged. Hell, Tipper Gore was probably outraged. But it sounded fine.
Not that I remember, Steve. I did some interviews and on air stuff for KFJC down that way, in the mid 80s the polka band played a theater in Palo Alto (Stanford maybe?) with Queen Ida at one show and Zazu Pitts at another, also opened for the Rocky Horror Picture show there one Halloween. We did play a place down that way with TDA in the 90s but can’t remember the name of the venue, it was more of a sit down kind of club. Played some parties with a few bands down south but really didn’t play much in the South Bay,
They played mostly in the South Bay. Here’s a link . . . http://theinternationals.com/aboutus.php . . . Stevie is the first guy in the photo.
Ha, they sure look like a band I would have run into at some point. Maybe we did an Oktoberfest with them somewhere. This is a clip of our style of polka, I’m the drummer with the cowboy hat. From 85 to about 92 I played trumpet in the band (actually a cornet) after that I was the drummer until I moved to the OBX in 08.
This video is so cool! John, you were GREAT! Love it! By the by, watching this at 5am. lol
wow that was awesome. Crowd pleasing band that’s for sure.
Flav, this needs to go on new thread – Bozo’s band is awesome!
Thanks, we did have us some fun with that band and it lasted longer than anything else I was in. I flew out to play their last show back in 2017, 85 – 17 was a pretty good run.
Tell ya one thing, as teams go, the Padres aren’t that scary. They are inept on defense and their pitching is shakey at best
wait till Tatis comes back. And they’ll add another big time SP that’s just how AJ rolls. He’s dynamic unlike our Gm who reminds me more of the Ficus plant that sits quietly in the corner of my office.
Thing is if you lose a game a week (or more) to Padres, even if they both play .500 ball, Giants could be done in month, or less.
I think most of us here thought the Pen was on fumes BEFORE the break, and needed a couple of new arms. They got that Rosenthal guy, he of 2-year off for injury, then traded his ass before he ever showed — a ghost sign and trade. Giants look now like about a 78 win team…
Yeah, baffling they didn’t get arms when they were so taxed as it was.
lol watch this. Kinda reminds me of a young big flavor if I had been dreaming
Heavy sigh. So much for the series win. GRR
not sure about the context here but…..
Pads D has Kim who is really good, plus Machado and Profar. All have made good plays last 2 days and Grisham is D first CF. Only ? Is where they put Tatis. Probably best suited OF to avoid getting hurt.
