BOOM!
Back to .500 baby. Our watershed number. And now we got ace #2 teed up! “Rodon and Webb, then pray for Feb”. It’s got a nice ring to it.
We aren’t out of this.

Last chance to make hay before comp gets tougher. Didn’t realize how bad Detroit (47-77) is–only 2 teams in all baseball have lost more games, Oakland and Wash.
Dead last AL in runs HRs slugging and OPs; 13 th BA (.226) and 14th OB (.282). Baez leads team in HRs, with 11.
SP M Manning not so bad in his 6 starts with ERA of 2.81.
Longo btw now has team high slugging pct just over .500.
Well, the fucking Dogs finally did us a favor.
Was following along online to Pads Cleveland game. Closer threw 9-10 pitches in 9th of 2-1 W for Guardians, and 6 of them were 100+. Made 2 solo HRs stand up.
That’s an interesting team–8th AL in runs scored, and 8th across board for OB slugging and OPS. Yet 65 W team with solid pitching and “impressive bullpen” according to someone who was there. They are in first place in AL Central, 3 games up on Twins.
Could that kind of team work in SF?
The great Len Dawson has died…
Saw that, too bad he was one of great QBs of old AFL, tremendous fun league in its day.
Ike Lassiter (passed in 2015) somewhere is laughing–he’s the one who waxed Dawson but Big Ben Davidson got all the blame.
Damn. Loved that KC team. Dawson to Otis Taylor . . . back when the AFL was the wild wild west. The Raiders, Chiefs, Chargers, and Broncos were exciting shit. Even Cincinnati. . .
What should we do?
https://sportsnaut.com/top-mlb-free-agents/
We shouldn’t bid on any of the elite, higher priced guys, PARTICULARLY anyone at or approaching 30 years old, e.g., Aaron Judge. My reasoning is that the Giants have too many holes to fill. Consequently, they don’t have to go totally “Brebbia aisle,” but they do need to get at least 2 mid-tier free agents if they want to half assed compete next year . . . Our minor league system needs to produce next year as well. That being said, I don’t know what Z will do.
I totally trust what Z is trying to do here, my big hope next season – is that it shows a path to a competitive 2024, where they will be in the hunt for a playoff spot. I think 2023 is going to be transitional.
I don’t think this team is going anywhere in the next month. We have way to many weak spots. It has been nice seeing a few gritty wins but I doubt they will lead to anything. I will be interested in the upcoming off-season though, should be a lot of movement within the whole organization. Right now I am ready for some football.
Zaidi’s offseason plan.

Good stuff. Thank you for sharing John. My biggest complaint he mentioned – how freaking old we are. No way, no how, were 2010 circa players going to compete indefinitely a la 2021 (which was a surprise). If Z made a mistake, that was it – handing out those big contracts to Belt and Crawfish. I still wonder if that was ownership telling him to do that???
By the by, related to our team age, does anyone know where we rank in the MLB? I suspect we are the oldest or at least in the top 5 age wise. That definitely has to change.
Belt had his best season ever by a long mile last year. I get why they did it. Hoping to catch lightning in a bottle twice.
Giving BCraw 2 years was a little baffling. But their thought was Luciano would be ready by 2024. Craw is scuffling pretty badly this year. What will next year bring? Longo will just fade away, and LaStoola will get DFAed I hope.
Unca, do you think that was ownership telling or putting pressure on Z to sign both of them?
I don;t think there was a direct order, but this team likes to live in the past.
Agree Chuck.
I don’t agree that ownership told Zaidi to sign the Brandons. Nothing, absolutely nothing points to that. Zaidi seems to take a lot of time making moves and those two were probably his last best options at the time. Crawford shows there wasn’t a replacement from the Farm that they thought was ready, and Belt accepted a qualifying offer, which I look at as an insurance move by Zaidi. Calculated moves that didn’t pan out, why is that hard to believe?
Johnson hitting .287 for Sac, .756 OPS, switch hitter throws R.
Career in minors over few different levels he has 20 HRs in about 1500 ABs. Does have bunch of SBs, 27 vs. 4 CS in 2022.
Someone just texted me that Giants will open the 2023 season at Yankee Stadium on March 30th…
I just saw that too.
Thurs March 30, then Sat-Sun April 1-2.
yeah Slush tweeted that, 3 games with built in off day Friday in case of rain. “best schedule ever” she said.
Aaron Judge will get to face his former team.
Hopefully Aaron Judge and Xander Bogarts will be in SF Giants uniforms against the Yankees!
Now that would get my juices flowing and really tick off the Yankees fans..
Just curious if the Giants opened up the pocketbooks for 2 A/S players like Judge&Bogarts that Rodon might consider re-upping?
no wonder Tigers are last in HRs. Wade hit that to wall at 420 and he’s out.
2 hit game already for Joc, 3rd one in his last 5. Having good August, batting over .320 5 doubles 1 HR continues .800+ OPS.
For an old team to have 28 straight successful steal attempts blows me away!
I know Slater&Estrada are fast and have the bulk of them, but Yaz&Bart have helped keep that streak going..
What a lousy season for Craw.
Disagree with Flems. Webb messed up this inning by walking the 9 hitter Baddoo, nibbling with off speed stuff then threw bad pitch ahead 0-2 on 2 run single. could have buried pitches in dirt, instead put one over the plate that hurt him and ruined the inning.
this is also why I prefer Rodon over him–yesterday he was blowing 97 heat right by them, including Cabrera. Webb can’t (or won’t) do that and is more slider/changeup, and Tigers have made enough contact to beat him.
Agree, walking the 9 batter to load the bases was pretty bad(doo).
Zap guy sucks. Giants have to have better relievers on 40 man at Sac
Let me count the ways…
A new low: Giving up a 6-spot to the worst hitting team in MLB.
it really is.
Atleast they won on my Birthday( they always seem to do good on that day, forgot I share my birthday with Yaz),this is my Fantasy Football Bash hangover day after a very fun and vocal draft in the backyard with music ablazing as well..
I can’t post now using my computer, all of a sudden. Since yesterday. Anybody else have this?
No
I had trouble this morning posting and wordpress kept saying my password was wrong. So I went to chucks site and signed in and things were ok here also. I think it was because I cleared a bunch of history and cookies yesterday.
Shit. Forgot the game was on ans saw that we are down 6-1. Webb fucked up again I see. Couple really shitty starts for him back to back. If we are to have any hope . . .
And I wrote this before I figured out that there were 50 posts behind it . . .

Looks like about 600 people decided to go to the game today.
Funny how these fucking owners piss, moan, cry, and hold cities hostage so they can build these state-of-the-art stadiums that just let sit idle as they don’t do shit to build a team. Pittsburgh as well. And a bunch of others.
Oakland’s pipe-dream on Fairyland by the Docks would suffer the same fate I’m sure.
pffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft
Belt onto IL highly predictable. Should have gone onto it a couple weeks ago. Obvious he’s compromised. I wouldn’t bet against a surgery and out for season, and if that, we’ve seen his last AB for the Giants. Getting your knee drained means something really not good is going on in there…
Giants are like the Jethro Tull song “Living in the Past”
They just keep on living on past loyalty with aging veterans!
Finally these dumb contracts they can move on from Belt,Crawford ( praying he might hang ‘em up) Longoria,LaStella, etc outfield needs major upgrade, BP also..
They need a team with a Superstar to relate too, make that 2, CF Judge,SS Bogarts are maybe Swanson would be a start.Turner the ideal leadoff hitter would be great.Get one of these 3 SS and with Judge a huge draw they should compete and fill the seats..
I figure the bidding on Judge will open at 7/300.
Giants might feign interest at about 6/250…
On to Minnesota for the first time since 2005.
And again next season with the new schedule.
One more chance at a Stix-A-Palooza.
Is there really a point to having 2 leagues?
