Bent Over In Minnesota
Another headline subtly referencing something that might have happened in the underbelly of an after hours Minnesota tavern circa 1975?
Anyway, our march back towards .500 took a big hit last night…
Read last night’s comments just now.
I haven’t heard a peep from anywhere about Kap losing the team in any way whatsoever. Maybe I’ve missed a story on that? That would be unlikely. Did a story on him getting tuned out by the players come out in the last 24-36 hours?
Look, we stink. We have 2 reliable starting pitchers, a leaky bullpen, porous defense and, as Tolbert threw in Zaidi’s face the other day, no middle of the order at all. Getting to .500 should be our World Series this year. It’s the best we can hope for.
Zaidi starts Year 5 of his reign next year right? A clear direction for the franchise needs to unfold starting next season. Right now we just have a bunch of the same underwhelming dudes doddling around out there and a minor league system that doesn’t seem to be offering anything at all………
Watched some of Yanks at A’s last couple nights. Wandy Peralta got save for Yanks last night in 3-2 W, highlighted by judge 3 run bomb over CF fence to break up scoreless game in 5th. Peralta now has 3 saves and ERA under 3.00…Giants dealt him to Yanks for Tauchman.
Less than 16 thou there last night–days before there were at least that many Yanks fan there alone.
Night before Yanks had 20 hits (16 singles 0 bombs) in 13-4 route behind Cole. A’s ended game with IF Neuse on mound. Watching Wynnns pitch for SF disgusting.
Still see complaints about Kap losing the team once he went public about anthem but that’s non issue. in reality he hever had a team to lose–it’s been win a few lose a few, lose a few more ever since hot start in April. Kapspin I can’t abide but he doesn’t have enough to work with, in pen or in back up replacements for his injured and unproductive old farts. Davis might work.
There are highlights in farm (Baggs had nice column about Vaun Brown in Athletic) but almost all are in AA ball. I could see Harrison get some innings with SF next year but likely on innings limit.
Going into the 5th year of Zaidi’s reign shouldn’t we have more to look forward to in 2023 in terms of minor league talent making it to SF?
Oh sure and it’s certainly fair to question farm for draft (Bailey Bishop etc.) and lack of development under Haines. Webb’s made it through system, Doval and Bart as well. Dunno what happened to Ramos or why he hasn’t seen more run–Z never got Kap a RH OF to platoon or play everyday, which was a fail. Villar might work too, high OB/line drive hitter, maybe Vosler as well. Covid year lost in 2020 really did screw things up for Giants, though I get it affected everyone. Pitching has been bigger problem, as Z has had to go out and get SPs (and spent $$) and pen guys, not all of whom have worked out, or are just burned out.
Balanced sched of interest? lot of back n forth among Giants fan bloggers who don’t give rat’s ass about Twins or other random AL teams, though most agree seeing couple less series vs. Rox and DBax is OK. Since I don’t follow random AL teams like fantasy guys do for who is good/who isn’t, I think it’s cool. Given current state of Dodgers and their budget, isn’t gonna hurt to see them less either, though I think Brisbee didn’t see it that way, preferring to keep more games vs. hated rivals.
Final year of Zaidi’s contract, figure he has to get busy unless he wants to move on.
For Minneapolis dive bars I always liked Mayslack’s Polka Lounge (I think it’s just called Mayslack’s now). Strong drinks, music and garlic roast beef sandwiches, I asked Stix if he had ever been in there, but he never answered me about it,
no surprise. Admitting he’d been there might implicate him in something larger, darker. Stix stays off that grid, man.
Lol.
Hah, yeah you right, Flav.
Balanced sched also means more AL road trips. Getting used to Javy and Estes with Flems, not bad combo. Less Miller too whom I guess is on radio more. Admire Krukow’s determination to get to as many games as he can, just wonder how much longer the both of them will continue together as lead announcers at home.
Heading into NYC for Mets Old Timers Day later today, then Mets-Rox. I’ll save my applause for Kevin Mitchell. Of course every day is Old Timers Day for our squad.
lulz. Hey Mac, cousin of neighbor of mine from Dallas area went to Trenton minor league park with husband and got some pictures taken with golden retriever batdog mascot. Ever been there for games? AAA affiliate I guess dunno for whom. Think they were more into dog than the baseball.
Haven’t been to the Trenton park in years, yeah they still have the Bat Dog. The Thunder used to be Yanks affiliate, they might be an independent team now.
Don’t ignore Ken McKenzie, Mac!

I have an amazing record of never giving out a winner here.
Final attempt: Zandon in the Travers about 3 hours from now…
good luck to you and Flavien Prat. Geroux hasn’t had much luck at Del Mar, 7 winners in 92 mounts, sitting 9th in jockey standings, 38% itm.
Slush said Luis Gonzalez back up and in Minnesota. Worked on closing stance a bit, other things. Z likes high OB guys; if he can cut down on baserunning and fielding gaffes might be productive player.
Just heard an interview with Rosco Gordon. On tour in Europe, in one town, his backing band consisted of three accordions. “No More Doggin’ — with three accordions! Not one accordion. Three accordions! Worst gig I ever had.”
Hah, no doubt it was a tough gig.
Lennon and McCartney owed Rosco a small fortune for this “birthday” riff.
told story bunch of times, being at Mel’s Bowl Redwood City for company seminar, which I ditched to watch 2000 NLDS game vs. Mets inside the alley, as J T Snow homered off Armando Benitez to tie game. Then ex Giant Darryl Hamilton singled off Felix Rodriguez to start 10th and Giants eventually lost. Hamilton was shot and killed in domestic dispute and died at age 50.
Shea said Mets retired Mays #24–was that done at the park, where Mac is?
cbs site says they did and showed vid highlights (si.com) of Mays in Giants days, etc. wow nice!
At this rate, Sonny Gray will no hit the Giants through five and get pulled for pitch count.
Just looked at the box. Bart hitting 9th? WTF!!!! Kap may not have lost the players but he is loosing me!
LOL. Slater picked off? We must be the worst fundamental team in baseball in decades!
Bart breaks up the no no…
Joey!
And Bart breaks that up with line drive rocket.
ribbie for LaStella, well done.
Gyros Score a run.
Yay…
Not sure if kap has lost the players but he is losing me for sure if he keeps batting Bart 9th. Does he not watch the games? Honestly Bart might be our most exciting hitter. The only exciting hitter. Kap / Idiot!
He’s obsessed with going L/R. After LaStella, then Wade it’s all L/R down to Bart at 9th. zzzz
Think I may start calling Yazstremski the full Yazstremski. He ain’t hittin like the original Yaz…
Wow nice play by Wilmet.
Yes, Mets retired Mays’ #24, had nice video tribute showing highlights from NY and SF career. Willie’s son Michael was there to represent him and threw the first pitch.
I’ve always wondered about how close Mays and McCovey were or weren’t.
I don’t feel like Mays was especially close to any of his teammates.
Maybe Kokonuts would have some insight but he ditched us…
As did many others – San Dawg, Wilco, Dirt, etc.
In old Brooklyn we called ’em “flat-leavers.”
In this case “Flap-leavers”…
Dammit.
Janet…
Doval has thrown a dozen pitches a foot off the plate so far.
Following on phone, did Gonzo have another brain fart on the bases?
saw that too on gameday — grounder to SS, out at 3B???
Duran Duran – very underrated…
Oh, Leone’s in. No problem now.
Dumb Twin MF didn’t know what base the ghost runner occupies…
Maybe Davis really should pitch.
Kapler set up the force play at home so beautifully. This is dark comedy at its best.
OUATIH is better.
Using the flamethrower from The 14 Fists Of McCluskey on Sadie in the pool?
that surprised me and yet as soon as it started . . . . Perfect in every way.
And the background music.
QT is one crazy genius…
I’ve only watched it once. Not enough. Gotta boot it up again. My younger son and I, before the pandemic, used to go to new Tarantino movies in Oakland. Seeing them with a crowd adds something.
Loo, wonder how many of May’s SF teammates are still alive?
Felipe Cepeda and Marichal for sure but doubt they would have hung out much with him. I do think visiting black players coming to SF did.
Mac is gone, have to look up some of others. Franks had him run OF and meeting with pitchers pregame to go over hitters. Maybe that made things little more awkward to begin with.
Willie had that nightmare first marriage, too…
Willie Kirkland is still alive, so is Ed Bressoud off 1959 team. Wags, Andre Rodgers and Pagan have passed. Something to check out on B/R.
Elrod Hendricks said something funny about Frank Robinson and his problems trying to manage pitchers: “It’s because you hated them as a hitter.”
The late Elrod was at my friend’s wedding 20 some years ago.
Awesome dude.
I let him bring up the Agee catch…
This just in.
Giants stink…
saw someone retweet a Schulman tweet — he’s still at it, a bit — sneering about free-runner Gonzalez trying to advance to 3B on a grounder hit in front of him. So, yeah, must’ve been another fuck up.
After the Alvin Dark blowup about black and latin ballplayers not being as intelligent, wasn’t Mays the peacekeeper, as Cepeda led other faction were gonna refuse to play for him?
