A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Minnesota Massacre

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 29, 2022

One thing I haven’t missed in the last week are the Kap pre and post game shows. How infuriating are his comments? He usually goes way out of his way to say absolutely nothing. Is he saying a lot of “To your point”? Oh, wait, that’s Farhan’s favorite thing to say.

All I can say is that I hope there is a lot of looking in the mirror this off season. I can’t support watching this boring ass team again next year.

What I am looking forward to is the Warriors run it back year. And my fantasy teams of course.

daily fantasy sports is the only way I make it through sports seasons anymore. That’s definitely been a big change for me and how I watch/enjoy sports.

I stopped listening to Kapler at some point last year, even when they were winning, his post/pre game talks bugged me. That said, here is his latest quote, “We’re not in a good position,” manager Gabe Kapler said. “I think we all acknowledge that. But we’re still in the fight and that’s all we can ask for.”

One of those who isn’t boring to me is Rodon and I hope SF can keep him around for when they might be relevant 2024 and beyond. Compared to Webb he gives up far fewer hits, walks the same, and Ks way more hitters, important stat given current state of Giants D.
Don’t want to pay FA guys over 30? Well except for Webb every single other SP including DeSclafani will be 30 and up next year, along with pen guys beside Doval and Long.
Giants owe Disco into his 33 and 34 age, and Cobb next year will be 35–both on$10 mil per season deals Z signed off on.

    • Flavor said, on August 29, 2022 at 7:54 am

they kept Rodon at the deadline. At this point I guess I hope they sign him, too. We need lots of players to be competitive in the future and he would fit the bill for sure.

Longoria hamstring ain’t gonna heal as long as he’s out there trying to run bases. Call up Villar now before Sept 2, and give him a month to see what he can and can’t do. Maybe he can play elsewhere on IF beside 3b, esp vs. LHP with Estrada taking over SS. He’s been best hitter in Sac and shown some pop over there too though he seems like more line drive/OB guy to me.

      Next Bill Mueller?

  5. djloo27 said, on August 29, 2022 at 9:14 am

Saying “to your point” is so fuckin stupid and annoying.
Lately I notice many interviewers will tell their subject to “talk about” something instead of asking a direct question. Sounds lazy and almost rude to me.
The word “ecosystem” is starting to get used everywhere.
    Why?

    • Macdog said, on August 29, 2022 at 11:48 am

Spot on Loo, the “tell me about that play” non-question or variations of that is something most reporters find annoying and, as you said, lazy.

    • snarkk said, on August 29, 2022 at 12:13 pm

These exact things have bugged me for a long time. It’s lazy.
Ask a damn direct question, so an answer can be given.
The media does the same thing with these lying politicians…

    • xoot said, on August 29, 2022 at 1:27 pm

yeah, it’s one thing to ask open-ended questions, it’s another to say: So, talk! Baggarly and Slusser get a bit more pointed during post-game pressers with Kapler.

We’ve seen what the minor leaguers can do and that’s a pile of steaming shit like this so called major league team.4 years in the Z/H regime and still no hot prospects to be found yet.Are these just minor league mirages we see highlights for are they going to be big league studs down the road?
And I’m so Damm sick of this team being freaking CHEAP with their spending when they only have like 96mil?committed to contracts next year? Always Lip Service and never in the running when it comes to landing a superstar are hell players that are real close to being one.And Z/H/K can stick it up their collective butt holes about analytics and OBP sure doesn’t cut it with this bunch of old players and especially Z’s jizzing signing of LaStella who’s OBP was as low as .258 recently, yet they still limp his sorry ass out there with one leg DH cause he can’t field are throw well are hit too obviously and lead him off to boot lol!

Thank god I have Fantasy Football starting 9/11 ironically to enjoy instead of this lame ass boring team, led by K/K/ Flem ridiculous broadcasting of “Well a couple of walks and a big fly and their right back in this ( down 7-1 are something lol) and now Krukow saying Longoria is at the crossroads of his career rather he continues on are not?( he noted Pujols still playing at 42)Krukow will never let go of past glory and would want all the Bore Core back if he could

Speaking of massacres, how’s things in Bend today?

    • Flavor said, on August 29, 2022 at 11:47 am

Yeah that was quite a shock to get that news. I think it was easy side that’s about a 12 min drive from where we are right now

      • Flavor said, on August 29, 2022 at 11:47 am

        East not easy

      • xoot said, on August 29, 2022 at 1:24 pm

        glad you’re unscathed

    • Winder said, on August 29, 2022 at 12:09 pm

Bend used to be a wonderful little town but people are continuing to move there and it’s not so small anymore. It’s not cheap to live there anymore either.

    • xoot said, on August 29, 2022 at 12:37 pm

this past weekend, at a West Oak street corner known as “a supermarket,” two guys got killed in a shootout and a car fleeing the scene ran over and killed a bicylcist. Next night, same neighborhood, a guy got shot in a parked car — apparent revenge. I wonder if anyone outside Oakland heard about it.

      • willedav said, on August 29, 2022 at 12:44 pm

Attack on man in Little Saigon too last week had that part of community energy up.

      • xoot said, on August 29, 2022 at 1:24 pm

yeah, apparently that woman was a dentist well known in LS and Chinatown, just parked at a meter on the street.

      • Winder said, on August 29, 2022 at 2:00 pm

I used to work at Svenhards bakery In West Oakland and take bart and walk the rest of the way. I was always on the lookout but then no matter what I was still a sitting duck.

      • xoot said, on August 29, 2022 at 2:13 pm

that’s right next door to what used to be my favorite dispensary. Also, for about 8 years I went to work at the nearby RR yard. Know the place well.

      • Winder said, on August 29, 2022 at 3:52 pm

I actually like that part of town it was close to downtown and I always liked Chinatown.

      • xoot said, on August 29, 2022 at 3:57 pm

It’s just a few blocks from where the a’s want to build their new ballpark.

      • xoot said, on August 29, 2022 at 4:50 pm

a 12 yr old shot a 13 yr old at an East Oakland MS today.

      • Winder said, on August 29, 2022 at 6:30 pm

That’s the part of town I always stayed away from. Closest I got was to A’s games

    Kat’s breaking news..
Jimmy G will stay with the 49ers on a restructured contract for 6.5 million guaranteed with incentives up to 16.5 mil to be the backup for Trey Lance. Hey I think it’s a good move ( keeps him out of Seattle) Jimmy has always been a professional in this crazy situation and does have a good relationship ( not toxic with Lance) and I’m guessing the 49ers just don’t feel comfortable with Sudfield &Purdy as your backup, it makes sense what the 49ers did, and maybe midsession are later a desperate team makes a offer they like?

    • snarkk said, on August 29, 2022 at 4:17 pm

      What a deal.
$6.5 million for carrying a clipboard and going to meetings.
      I must say I’m surprised.
Fanbase may not be too happy that Jimmy G is still around. Why wasn’t he practicing with the team, then?
They just now figured out nobody else needs/wants him?
To me it means the brain trust isn’t trusting Lance much at this point…

    • willedav said, on August 29, 2022 at 4:44 pm

win/win. Running QBs can easily get hurt, lot of track record there. Shanahan obviously knows what type of O Garoppolo can handle (as opposed to Sudfeld or Purdy) so it would not be a disaster if that happened, or if Lance needed at blow at times to clear his head. Also gives Lance another voice of experience to listen to. Having strong backup QB is good thing.
And it keeps JG away from Seattle.

“The word “ecosystem” is starting to get used everywhere.
    Why?”

Because it’s getting destroyed on a daily basis, and future generations may have to walk around outside in astronaut suits.

    • djloo27 said, on August 29, 2022 at 5:45 pm

Zum, I should have been clearer. I’ve been hearing it on sports broadcasts lately.
Like the ecosystem of a team or something not being part of a player’s ecosystem.
Another ridiculous buzzword that somehow catches on…

  10. zumiee said, on August 29, 2022 at 4:14 pm

Watching the Giants hitters this season trying to square up pitches is like watching them trying to split atoms. Pitches down the middle get fouled off.
If a Giants pitchers makes a bad pitch, it gets crushed, of course.

  11. zumiee said, on August 29, 2022 at 4:18 pm

Ozzie and Sharon Osborne say they are going to move back to Britain. They said things have gotten too crazy in the U.S.
It’s saying something when things in the U.S. are too crazy for a guy who once bit the head off of a bat.

  12. xoot said, on August 29, 2022 at 4:37 pm

I watched a pretty good (and fairly long) youtube vid on the architectural history of ballparks that included a shot of the grounds crew at the Astrodome wearing space suits as they laid down the lines and raked the IF.

Here’s the (long) vid. The architect doesn’t much care about a fan’s POV. Big segment on Candlestick. (He hates Citifield, btw.)

    • Winder said, on August 29, 2022 at 6:54 pm

Thanks, that was interesting. Surprised he didn’t mention the Polo Grounds or the Giants stadium.

      • xoot said, on August 29, 2022 at 9:38 pm

I think he skipped over the Polo Grounds early on. Nice omission of dodger stadium.

    • djloo27 said, on August 29, 2022 at 7:24 pm

Citifield’s alright. It’s just in the same shit location as torn down Shea Stadium.
Mac sent a great photo of the surrounding area over the weekend.
It beats the hell out of the awful mausoleum in the Bronx that opened the same year.
No wonder he prefers to discuss the original which has also been torn down…

  13. unca_chuck said, on August 29, 2022 at 5:25 pm

Well, they painted themselves into a corner not trading Rodon. If they let him go at the end of the season, they’ll look like idiots. Joc? Meh. Let him go. He’s been a hologram for 3 months.

Jimmy G, come on down! The Niners basically spent $6.5 million to keep him off the Seahawks. I would have loved to be in the meetings around this decision. On the face of it, it sure looks like they don’t trust Lance. At least not completely. Mainly because Trey has one bad game, and the fans will howl for Jimmy.

But hey, if Capcola will take the (MUCH) smaller deal, more power to him. I’m about 80% sure this is simply to keep him away from Seattle and to hopefully get a better deal down the road when Bobby Brown (Derek Carr) goes down.

    • willedav said, on August 29, 2022 at 6:40 pm

yeah makes perfect sense, and it’s not like starting QBs around league won’t get hurt this season. dunno about “they don’t trust Lance” but I think he has long leash and G would only be in there for emergency or brief spot of relief for series or two at a time.

  14. Winder said, on August 29, 2022 at 6:33 pm

Lance is a level headed QB that knows he’s not going anywhere. So now we probably have the best backup in the league. All this bullshit happened because Jimmy waited so long to have his shoulder surgery.

  15. unca_chuck said, on August 29, 2022 at 7:00 pm

    Ho hum. Game over.

  16. djloo27 said, on August 29, 2022 at 7:57 pm

This is the most interesting thing that’s happened all season…

  17. alleykat69 said, on August 29, 2022 at 8:07 pm

It’s a major insurance policy getting Jimmy back.
He knows the system, and in the NFL all teams are looking for a quality backup that doesn’t all exist.Hell your only one hit away from taking over, atleast the 49ers have the Best Backup QB in the lead bar none that took the team to a SB and Championship game. How many backups have ever done that? Maybe Morrei (sp) taking over for an injured Bob Griese in the undefeated season..

  18. Macdog said, on August 29, 2022 at 8:13 pm

Turn out the lights, the season’s over.

  19. unca_chuck said, on August 29, 2022 at 8:15 pm

The lights are out? Streameast says weather delay.

  20. alleykat69 said, on August 29, 2022 at 9:08 pm

Giants got there one hit, why don’t they just call it a night..
