A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

He’s Back!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 30, 2022

I’m totally diggin’ the Jimmy G move. He’s got the temperment to be the back up. And let’s face it, our OL is nothing to write home about. Starting QB’s get hurt. That’s a fact. Do you guys want Nate Dumbell starting games? Bill Walsh would have done something like this—maybe not this exact move because Bill would have run Jimmy out of town last year, lol. But he would have figured out how to have a good back up for Trey. I don’t see Jimmy as a threat at all, just a nice insurance plan.

JG is just gonna be chillin’ on the sidelines looking magnificent, blowin’ kisses to dem ladies, Trey goes down he swoops in and wins us a few games then heads back to the bench blowin’ kisses to dem ladies. It’s perfect.

Another forgettable L. Good to see Davis and Slater with late heroics and Pederson crush one. I guess it’s up to twitterverse to figure out what went on btw Garcia (again?) and Profar that got home plate ump to be where he was as Profar was running to 1b.
Um, 1 game ahead of 4th place DBax.

Whoa, didn’t realize D-Backs were that close in the standings. Wild win for the Snakes last night, falling behind 7-0 after Phils pummeled MadBum, then scored 12 runs in two innings and won going away, 13-7. What a freefall for the Giants, now 5-game losing streak. and it looks like Stix’s prediction of being lucky if they finish 72-90 isn’t so far-fetched.

Yeah, this is pretty much a win win. For the 49ers anyway. Lance could have settled this by playing better, but Purdy mouth and Sudsy certainly will recall the efforts of Nick Mullens, Brock Hoyer, and The Beater in being terrible backups, so having Capicola around another year will make the back up scenario better. This of course comes with the fact that for every bad play, the fan base will scream for Jimmy and this will be a constant presence all season.

But yeah, the fact that Jimmy took the deal is telling as well. He’s been ghosting the team every offseason, and did himself no favors by ghosting the team and waiting 2 months to get his shoulder operated on. But hey, there’s nothing wrong with hedging your bet. Especially when it keeps Jimmy off the Seahawks.

Flavor, nice post. I can see Jimmy blowing kisses to the ladies too. I have seen to many 49er seasons turn into a total fuckshow that nothing really surprises me anymore. Kinda like Giants baseball.

That ninth inning last night was kind of the season in a nutshell. La Stella takes a fastball right down the middle on the first pitch for a strike, and then ends up making an out to complete his 0-5. Wade, looking nothing like the guy he was last year, strikes out in a feeble AB. And then the last guy, who I can’t remember at the moment, grounds out, I think. And they lose by one run. The kind of game they won a lot of last season.

  4. Winder said, on August 30, 2022 at 8:49 am

The Athletic’s Matt Barrows and Jeff Howe report Jimmy Garoppolo delayed his shoulder surgery this offseason to avoid being traded.
Garoppolo on Monday restructured his contract with the 49ers, becoming the NFL’s highest-paid backup behind the inexperienced Trey Lance. “The new deal still allows him to hit the free agency market in 2023, which has been Garoppolo’s focus all along,” Howe and Barrows said. “It’s the reason he had his shoulder repaired in March, which essentially scuttled any chance the team had of trading the quarterback.” Not having an offseason to learn a new system would make Garoppolo unappealing to any team that may have had interest in acquiring him in the spring or summer. It was a shrewd move, and one that keeps Garoppolo on the win-now San Francisco roster. It’s certainly not out of the realm of possibility that Jimmy G could supplant Lance as the team’s starter should Lance struggle this year.

      This.

      Good post.

  5. unca_chuck said, on August 30, 2022 at 9:12 am

Wow, that is crazy. I guess Jimmy figured that he’s gonna get a much bigger payday going this route. I hope he doesn’t get any meaningful playing time this year, but we’ll see what happens.

Jimmy obviously has a much better view of what is going in in the development of Lance than any of us, so he must feel that there is at least a decent shot he could supplant Lance as the starter if things go south for Lance.

    • Flavor said, on August 30, 2022 at 9:17 am

Jimmy’s made a shit ton of money in his career for doing very little. Maybe he’s cool just chillin’ on the bench. It would seem to fit his personality. And then if trey goes down he just slides on in there.

  6. willedav said, on August 30, 2022 at 10:29 am

Lance is one who has been working with team all along while G was on another field throwing. Backup QB hardly gets any practice reps with first unit during season barring injury; it’s Lance’s job to lose. G can still be traded, and he does have option to decline one I believe. Let’s hope Lance is OK and G can ride off into sunset without further drama.

    • unca_chuck said, on August 30, 2022 at 3:07 pm

Yeah, full no-trade clause. But all that means is he has say in where he goes if it is during the season.

The older snarkette is now in Spain for a semester at Univ of Granada beginning next week. She’s fluent in Spanish.
But, she’s in Valencia now, and tomorrow she will take part, hopefully w/out injury, in the famous Tomatina festival in Bunol.
    That’s a lot of sauce…

Jesus that’s like what I imagined covid to look like if we could see it with the naked eye.

      • snarkk said, on August 30, 2022 at 12:45 pm

The younger snarkkette is at Univ of Bordeaux in France for the fall semester (she’s near fluent in French) — lots of UCSB students do a semester abroad there. Tomorrow the program is taking the kids out to a winery tour after morning school. Then, she’s going down to the beach town of Biarritz this weekend near the Spanish border with a bunch of friends to hang out — she just got Covid boosted before she left 10 days ago. Here I sit in front of a vid screen doing work and fielding dumb emails. My big thing for this week is final packing wildly to move and having a goodbye beer lunch with a long-time buddy. I was born way too early…

Kinda surprised to see Yanks stumble out here on left coast. After winning first 2 easily vs. A’s, they scored 3 runs in 2 games Sat/sun and dropped both, then lost to Angels last night despite HR #50 from Judge.

  11. snarkk said, on August 30, 2022 at 1:17 pm

    Yep, willied.
Moving next week, unless I collapse from stress before then. We’ve been madly trying to get rid of half+ of our combined 30+ years of stuff including kids’ “stuff” for the last 2 months. We’ve gotten rid of a considerable amount of accumulated stuff the past few years, but not enough. Some advice: if you have aggregated a lot of stuff in your life that is basically useless, or even if it has some sentimental value, make it simple and start getting rid of it — selling, giving away, donation, whatever — gradually and consistently over time. If you haven’t used or looked at something in 6 months, or at most a year, then get rid of it…

Speaking of Covid, a new vaccine for the newer variant is supposedly going to be approved pretty soon. And it’s possible people won’t have to wait the full four months from their last Covid shot to get the new vaccine.
In other words, in a few weeks I might be able to get my 6th, count’em, 6th Covid shot!

There was a study published recently that didn’t really get the media attention it deserved. It talked about the millions of Americans dealing with ‘long Covid’ effects. The media puts a lot of focus on the number of deaths from Covid, but there are also a lot of people struggling with long Covid effects.

Back when the Stick was around, and Mt Davis hadn’t been erected, the Coliseum wasn’t half-bad. I only went there for concerts, but the view of the Oakland hills was pretty cool.

The E Coli gets worse every year. a’s fans spend much effort hating the Giants. The proposed new ballpark on the waterfront, with a huge residential/commercial development attached, got a boost in court this week, but the a’s owners haven’t said anything positive about the project for a long time.

  16. unca_chuck said, on August 30, 2022 at 3:38 pm

I feel ya, Snarkk. We are in the process of (sort of) moving to Montana. Cue Uncle Frank.

My wife and oldest daughter are restarting their housewares company as it dovetails with my middle daughter’s job as a property manager in Big Sky, MT. So, depending on how long the project goes, we may split time between the Creek and Bozeman. The land management company said this could be a 10 year project, so we would rent this place out and move all of us.

Kathy and Christina have been getting their LLC, business license, getting a tax consultant, and biz consultant in line. They have a 3 bdr place already rented. I’m driving Christina’s 4-Runner with Garrett on Thursday to Bozeman. So, we may rent this place out, which means getting rid of stuff. I finally decided I’m gonna give most of my books away to the library. Which is somewhere around a metric ton.

Next week, the land mgmt company is cutting a fat-boy check for their company. Crazy shit.

Absolutely gorgeous up there. 45 mins to Yellowstone. 30 minutes to the Big Sky ski area. Fishing/4 wheeling/camping out the wazoo. Crazy thing is, hiking is a very dangerous proposition out there. The moose and bears can kill you at every turn. Allison’s BF already bought a few guns for their camping trips. Nothing less than a .45 will slow a bear down. They’ve both gone through training with them. Don’t know if I trust myself with a .45. If I go camping I’ll prolly sleep in my Landcruiser.

    • Winder said, on August 30, 2022 at 4:04 pm

Dress warm. Staying close to the family is the biggest factor IMO. The country up there is majestic but I would make plans on vacationing in the winter. I have some close friends who lived close to Yellowstone in Wyoming. They moved out 20 years ago but still talk about the winters.

    • snarkk said, on August 30, 2022 at 8:40 pm

My brother and I did a week’s float fishing trip down the Alagnak river in Alaska about 20+ years ago. All in, about a 60 mile float out in the middle of nowhere Alaska. 1 guide for every 2 guests. Those guides all packed .45 sidearms. For the brown bears. The “muskeg” on the sides of the river was so thick in places, you won’t see a bear until he’s on you almost. They said rifles were no good, take too long to aim and shoot, the bear will have already torn your arm off before you can shoot. We had a shore lunch one afternoon, they cooked a couple of sockeye that we had just caught, and some grayling. As we shoved off the shore after lunch to keep going down the river, a mungus Brown bear came out of the muskeg right onto the beach where we had been eating lunch, and started snarfing up the fish carcass and leavings we had thrown behind. He could have been watching us for an hour 20 feet away in the brush — and we had no idea he was there. Those bears can smell a fly take a dump from a mile away…

Here ya go Unca . . . My Glock 30SF .45 ACP, a subcompact Glock model that has recoil only a slight more than your typical 9mm. In other words, a very smooth shooter versus a .357 Magnum or definitely a .44 Magnum, both of which you get tired of shooting after a few rounds or so in a revolver.

More experience with bears when I lived in Colorado, but you much rather see a black bear versus a brown bear. Much more ornery as snarkk alluded to. I mentioned here previously, I had both in my garage . . . and the brown bear scared the shit out of me.
