Our September Run Begins Now!
Thank God we held on to Rodon for this I can’t imagine how difficult it would be without him.
Also, we are now tied with the lowly D-backs for 4th place. We might have tied them a day or so ago, I wasn’t paying attention.
We had hoped for better in this final year of The Flap but it was not to be….
At least we still have Rodon.
Watching Mets-Dodgers makes you realize how far away from “contending” Giants are. Betts has 32 HRs. Will Smith just hit #19 couple days ago and he’s like their 4th best hitter.
Mets are loaded with .800 OPS hitters (FA guy Starling Marte added in offseason hit HR #16) and DeGrom looked awesome holding LA to 3 hits/1 run as he comes back.
exactly. Farhan is too cute for his own good. All this dumpster diving is nice but it can’t be all you do…..
Speaking of Betts, we’ve needed OFers for some time now, when Zaidi came in, he went and got Pillar who had a pretty nice season with us. Zaidi let him go and went dumpster diving instead, meanwhile LA traded for Betts. If you’re not keeping Pillar (who wanted to stay in SF). Mookie would have been a great player to build around but no, we get the revolving door.
Yaz and Slater were the keepers, Dick, Parra, Duggar, Rickard, J. Davis, Gerber, Joe, Dubon, Ruf, Pence, Basabe, McCarthy, Wade Jr, Bryant, Tauchman, Bolt, Gonzalez, Ramos, L. Williams, Joc, Kirzan, Fairchild, B. Johnson and Tom all came through that revolving door these past 4 years.
That is one clinking, clanking, clattering collection of caliginous junk…
I don’t have the foggiest idea what that means.
Saw a tweet today claiming that the Giants are the only mlb team without a 2.0 WAR guy (fg WAR).
must’ve been “position player” — Rodon’s at 4.9, apparently, which ties in with Big Flavor’s view up top, Webb 3.3.
Sad to watch how much better the other teams in Division have become as giants slide into oblivion. 2022 Pads are 11-5 against them, dogs 10-3, AZ 8-5. Giants whomped AZ last season and held slight edges vs. LA (10-9) and SD (11-8).
I realize you can’t spend your way out of this completely, and I have no idea what someone like Carlos Correa, already making $35 mil a year, would want or what he expects he’s worth, but there are obvious holes to fill, now, before highly touted prospects arrive in 2024.
In meantime, if guys like Slater Davis and maybe Villar will be around then, they might as well get as much PT as possible, even vs. RHP.
September is already off to a good start, there’s no game today! Although Giants might have fourth place all to themselves if D-Backs beat Brewers tonight. Also, it’s depressing to think that Wood, whose ERA is now over 5.00 after his latest shit start, is back for another year at $12.5M.
Supposed to warm up in Bay Area/NorCal today and next few days, and 2 of Giants games (Sat/Sun) will be day games vs. Phils, with Harper Schwarber etc. Be nice to see couple Giants beside Joc get into HR act.
I’m afraid 2021 will be Kap and Z’s proudest legacy.
A one season respite from the wilderness years…
I’m down with the dumpster dives. But it’s time for some big FA splashes. Let’s go. This winter is a watershed moment for him
Judge and Bell.
What are the odds they even pretend to be involved?
they always say they are but never bring home the bacon. That’s telling.
It’s not like Baer wouldn’t go apeshit if he had someone else to market beside Cain Posey and Scutaro from 2012.
This next crop of free agents (and/or players considering opting out of contracts) is full of players who could help the Giants. In this one upcoming off-season, the FO *could* completely and quickly retool this team if they really wanted to, or, perhaps more importantly, if ownership allowed them to spend the money it would take — money the team seems to actually have. They need new starters at 1B, SS, 3B, and CF, at least. They *could* probably get Judge, Bell, T. Turner, Correa, and bingo, there’s your new SF Giants. Realistically, that won’t happen, but some movement in that direction would be great. In fact, not just great, nearly necessary if G’s are going to compete in the NL West any time soon. I’m actually looking forward to seeing what they do. Do it, Z…
The problem is now how many of those guys would want to come to SF? Any player would ask..Who else are you going to get? This team is more than one player away. Will we overpay to get more than one guy?
As for Yaz..NOT a keeper if he is seen as a starter. One good season now in many? As a 4th OF? Yes.. A starter? Only if we had Judge and Turner…
You’re probably right that incoming new players might want to see a commitment by the team to other new players coming in as well, and that’s how it should be. I mean, bringing in just one FA (among position players), a la Pedersen last off-season, won’t do a thing. So yeah, they would need to make that known. As for Yaz as a starter, his .200 average would be a lot more tolerable with more offense oriented players around him. He plays a helluva RF and occasionally gets hot and helps win games. But with no additions, agree he looks weak as a starter.
Aren’t FAs usually just about money? Texas snagged Semien and Corey Seager and they’ve sucked for awhile, right?
Meanwhile, AZ takes over 3rd, beating Brewers 5-0 behind 7 solid innings by M Kelly and 2 run HR #31 for 1b C Walker. Ouch they are 22-16 since AS break and have won 6 of last 7. yikes
Looked them up: Rangers were 22-38 last in AL West in 2020, and 2021 60-102 dead last again. And yes, even with their 2 high priced FAs, 58-72 this season.
never understood those moves and said it at the time. They have literally no pitching. Angels tried this approach and it failed miserably. Why sign two hitters to 500 million deal if you have holes up and down your LU and no pitching? It’s lazy GMing. They do it to get fans to buy tickets, at least early on, and hope they start winning to keep them coming back to the park.
Angels thought Syndegaard would help. At least the A’s suck on the cheap. What do Rangers fans think?
Our $billion payroll is great?
