A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Changing Of The Seasons

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 2, 2022

There is so much hype surrounding the 49ers upcoming season the Giants have become an absolute afterthought in these parts. I just drove to work and all the morning show guys were talking about college football and this media-invented riff between Jimmy Fabulous and Trey Area. There isn’t anything there. Niners are in a great QB situation this year. I wish they would always go into a season with a competent back up.

Philly in town. Apple tv+? WTF is that?

      Fuck him…

        Casali as a Mariner is 2 for 15 (.133) with 7 Ks.
        Imagine if he wasn’t energized…

In bringing up Brinson, I’m curious if we will be able to turn around someone else’s failed 1st round pick.

I think the first highly publicized QB debate was Norm Van Brocklin vs. Bob Waterfield.
Van Brocklin’s 554 yards passing is still the single game record over 70 years later.
Who would think that’s possible the way the NFL has changed?

    • blade3colorado said, on September 2, 2022 at 8:37 am

They (NY Yanks) didn’t rush him and it was the first game of the season. Still amazing 7 decades later.

    • Flavor said, on September 2, 2022 at 9:08 am

To me this is a little like Joe replacing Steve Deberg. Maybe not as extreme but it’s the same ballpark. People gave Deberg a lot of shit but he could sling it every now and then.

Nothing against Casali, he’s just supporting his current team, one that happens to be right in midst of playoff hunt, quite unlike his old one. From what I read Giants like Casali and wouldn’t be averse to bringing him back. Knapp probably meets low bar of backup C expectations.

Still don’t understand how Phils got to where they are, solid WC contender in division with Mets and Braves. They are 73-58 with plus 80 run differential and winners of 7 out of last 10. How did this happen? gotta be more to it than just dumping Girardi.

“He’s still a guy who brings a ton of intangibles to the table. ” Z on Yaz.
“We’d love to have him back next year.” Z on Joc

lowest level of competition since Leiter/Carreon tied for it?

  7. willedav said, on September 2, 2022 at 2:28 pm

Pads do reverse of penthouse/outhouse—3 in Latrine this weekend. They are only 3 games ahead of Brewers for last WC spot. MIL in last 2 weeks of season has 11 of 13 games vs. Cincy Marlins and AZ.

  8. zumiee said, on September 2, 2022 at 3:01 pm

Ah, don’t get me started on the game not being on regular TV tonight. The thing that bugs me the most about it is that the Giants have lots of elderly fans who watch every inning of every friggin’ game; but won’t be able to watch tonight’s game. That’s just wrong.

    • Flavor said, on September 2, 2022 at 3:49 pm

Yeah. My dad is still in the hospital and now can’t watch the game tonight– watching giants games is his main source of entertainment since he broke his leg 🍗

      • willedav said, on September 2, 2022 at 4:28 pm

Ah that’s too bad Flav. I was thinking about your Dad, in reference to story about highly ranked college football teams that schedule cupcake games and then lose–almost happened to Bobby Bowden in 1983. 7th ranked Florida St had to come from behind to beat unranked East Carolina 47-46.
I’ve always had soft spot for Arkansas, and in 1992 they had infamous one, losing at home to 1-AA Citadel 17-7. Coach “resigned” next day.

Belt to surgery. Done for season…

  10. xoot said, on September 2, 2022 at 3:45 pm

I’m 71. I’ll be watching. But I’ll be disappointed yet again, I suspect.

  11. Bozo said, on September 2, 2022 at 7:44 pm

I’m not signing up for Apple anything. Fuck MLB and Manfred. Current MLB practices are detrimental to fans, time to overturn the antitrust law enjoyed by the bastards.

    • xoot said, on September 2, 2022 at 7:48 pm

      Bernie’s on it.

  12. xoot said, on September 2, 2022 at 7:50 pm

4 runs in the bottom of the first. Only Knapp didn’t have an AB.

  13. xoot said, on September 2, 2022 at 8:07 pm

“A Joc Splash!” raves Hunter Pence. 3 runs, bottom 2d. Knapp walked to start the frame.

  14. xoot said, on September 2, 2022 at 8:09 pm

the hotshot Phillies starter yanked in the 2d — the legendary Sam Coonrod coming in.

  15. Winder said, on September 2, 2022 at 8:36 pm

I can’t see the game but this is a little different.

  16. xoot said, on September 2, 2022 at 8:53 pm

30 minute bottom of the 3d. 4 more runs. Knapp hit a sac fly.

  17. Macdog said, on September 2, 2022 at 8:55 pm

Uh, didn’t see this coming. Found out from Phillies radio announcer that Giants are worst in going from 1st to 3rd, and last in bases gained on hits. The other announcer wondered how this could be, which prompted me to yell in the car “They’re old and fucking slow!” Then right on cue came the 4-run 1st and Giants have kept pouring it on.

    • xoot said, on September 2, 2022 at 9:03 pm

      Coonrod did not disappoint.

  18. mrsprtdude said, on September 2, 2022 at 9:18 pm

    OMG. NOW they freaking score???

  19. xoot said, on September 2, 2022 at 9:19 pm

Thairo is definitely in the running for the Willie Mac award.

  20. mrsprtdude said, on September 2, 2022 at 9:21 pm

Weird to be rooting for the Dodgers. Go Brew Crew! SD gets more splash and more money if they make the playoffs. A late season collapse is what is best for the Giants. I hope Farhan is watching the good teams and thinking..It’s not my money. Rodon, Judge, Turner and we are back! My 5th year and we have to do something!

  21. xoot said, on September 2, 2022 at 9:25 pm

bottom of the 5th, no outs, Lewis Brinson hits a bloop single to CF

  22. xoot said, on September 2, 2022 at 9:31 pm

Giants pick up another run in the 5th. For some reason, the apple announcers did not say a single fucking word the entire frame. Very nice.

  23. xoot said, on September 2, 2022 at 9:47 pm

Cobb back out in the 7th to pursue his three-hit shutout further.

  24. mrsprtdude said, on September 2, 2022 at 10:11 pm

and the Dodgers rolling over vs Pads. Grr

the crossword puzzle I’ve been desultorily tapping my phone on has this clue: It beat Goodfellas for picture of the year.

      Dances With Wolves.

      • xoot said, on September 3, 2022 at 9:59 am

        yeah. I was appalled.

  26. Macdog said, on September 2, 2022 at 10:24 pm

    Giants win!

  27. Winder said, on September 2, 2022 at 10:28 pm

Yes. That has to make the team breath a little easier.

    • willedav said, on September 3, 2022 at 6:28 am

yeah exactly. Fate pretty much sealed, just go out there and play. And spoil others party if you can. 7 strong from Cobb, great sign–should be goal for every SP.

  28. willedav said, on September 3, 2022 at 7:24 am

Wilmet has been a great pick up, very productive at plate and has even been fielding well lately too at 3b and 2b. Tremendous bargain that might attract interest elsewhere, but would also be of great benefit for SF while they sort things out. What he brings is a welcome given, to season of turmoil and diminished results almost across board for position players. And they don’t have to platoon him either.

  29. Macdog said, on September 3, 2022 at 7:31 am

Phillies runs allowed in their last 3 losses, 2 at AZ and SF last night: 13-12-13.

    • willedav said, on September 3, 2022 at 11:12 am

Missing 4 pitchers on IL. 2 starters including Wheeler and both closers

      • willedav said, on September 3, 2022 at 11:13 am

Gonzalez pitched 9th for SF, again.

    And why not?

  32. djloo27 said, on September 3, 2022 at 2:11 pm

Gonzalez should have his own entrance music by now…

    • willedav said, on September 3, 2022 at 2:15 pm

lulz. Might need him for save today the way this game is going.

  33. willedav said, on September 3, 2022 at 2:16 pm

So much for “Junis pitching with the lead” as pitch is slammed into water.

  34. willedav said, on September 3, 2022 at 2:39 pm

Ha GIDP for Harper to end inning. Looks like he’s cut down annoying ritual he has btw every pitch; still steps out and does bat touch on corners of plate but gets back in quicker.

  35. djloo27 said, on September 3, 2022 at 2:45 pm

And of course like every other announcer, Krukow has to automatically say that the ground rule double was a bad break for the hitter (or the team if there’s anyone on base).
    Like it’s ever good…

  36. willedav said, on September 3, 2022 at 3:26 pm

Flavien Prat and John Velasquez back to Del Mar, and each won on mount early in card.

Don’t miss Flightline in the Pacific Classic about 2 hours from now.
The Boney One flew across the country just to see him run at Belmont earlier this year.
Even I never did anything that crazy for a horse…

      • willedav said, on September 3, 2022 at 4:09 pm

yeah thanks will do. Race before it looks pretty cool too and TVG has all hands on deck, with Christina Blacker and Simon Bray to counter weirdo Todd and delightful Ms. Andie B following horses on post parade. Giants game could last til dark; neither team wants to win.

  37. willedav said, on September 3, 2022 at 3:30 pm

Joc hitting like he’s on contract run for his next deal.

    • djloo27 said, on September 3, 2022 at 6:15 pm

No doubt, but it would’ve been nice to see or hear the fractions before they hit the stretch.
Bad job by the newly branded Fan Duel TV.
      And Trevor (let’s see) is a shell…

      • Flavor said, on September 3, 2022 at 6:34 pm

??? i had the fractions on my screen.
Trevor sounds like he has covid or something. WTF?

      • Flavor said, on September 3, 2022 at 6:35 pm

boney one was down there for it. He offered me a free plane ticket and hotel room to join him but I’m busy and goddamn going down there to just see one race, i couldn’t justify it.

  40. Flavor said, on September 3, 2022 at 6:36 pm

now i feel like a stupid bitch for not seeing it live

    • djloo27 said, on September 3, 2022 at 7:00 pm

Well you’re not a stupid bitch.
You were busy and you’re not 30 anymore.
      This is what happens…

Giants are showing some pride this weekend.

  42. mrsprtdude said, on September 3, 2022 at 9:42 pm

A good game. This just in..via MLB. Rays are now 3 games back in the loss column. Yankees were up by 15 1/2 games. If they get caught it will be the largest lead blown in MLB history! Go Rays!

  43. willedav said, on September 3, 2022 at 10:22 pm

Phils have lost 5 of 6 and rodon going tomorrow.
