A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Not Dead Yet

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 5, 2022

With all the hoopla surrounding Flightline’s astounding victory I haven’t given enough credit to the Giants for their nifty little 3 game sweep of a pretty good team. Our chances of making the post season have now soared to 0.6%. Starting to get a little excited? Feeling anything down in your plums? I’m talkin’ bout all the way down in yer plums….

Let’s take this wonderful fortuna and continue to spin it upward in LA where our march towards .500 continues on….

Magic # now at 22, which Phils could have lowered coming in. As is Philly half game behind SD for last WC, and Giants half game up on AZ for 3rd. I bet Phils fans would have happily rubbed it in Kap’s face with better showing but Harper overshadowed by wilmet and co.

Oh the Irma Thomas documentary on PBS was fantastic. Lot of live footage and Nola J & H fests 2007 and 08, plus more intimate Dew Drop Inn revisited show from 91, NYE show with Bonnie Raitt 92 where she did Time is on My Side again after many years of refusing to do so. About 15 songs total including couple duets from 2004 with Allen Touissant, most done from start to finish. Titled “Irma Thomas: My Life in Music.”

I still haven’t seen it yet, but I heard it is an awesome doc. Also looking forward to seeing “Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story”.

Huh. I had no idea the history of “Time is On My Side”. Thought it was a Stones song all these years.

Missed all the winning baseball last few days. Did the marathon drive to Montana on Thursday and flew back yesterday. 97 degrees in Bozeman yesterday. Weird.

    • willedav said, on September 5, 2022 at 9:04 am

Why she stopped doing it, tired of telling everyone it’s her version of song came out first. Showed short clip of Stones version complete with Mick borrowing the talking part, “go ahead and lay it on the town.”

“With all the hoopla surrounding Flightline’s astounding victory”

I missed the hoopla somehow. I’m guessing a horse ran a lot faster than other horses. Does the trainer give him an extra treat for that? A couple of sugar cubes or something?

They love shaved carrots mixed in with their hay….

    • unca_chuck said, on September 5, 2022 at 1:04 pm

Don’t we all? Yeah, I’m not too into horse racing, but that was a pretty impressive effort from Flightline. Just blew doors halfway through the race.

And….the Dodgers again. The Dodgers are a cocky group. Betts on the microphone last night bragging about the celebrities he hangs out with.
The Padres are pathetic vs. the Dodgers. The Padres are never going anywhere until they can stop being pathetic vs. the Dodgers.
The Giants are having a rough season vs. the Dodgers this year; but over the years, the Giants have played the Dodgers tough.

  7. unca_chuck said, on September 5, 2022 at 1:12 pm

We did sweep them at one point. Then again we were 10 games over .500 at one point.

    • willedav said, on September 5, 2022 at 3:16 pm

After taking 3 out of 4 from Brewers Giants were 48-43 at break.
Like the AS game ate Kap’s homework.

    • Macdog said, on September 5, 2022 at 3:38 pm

Blame me. I was at the win over the Pirates in Pittsburgh that put the Giants 10 over. Then I went to the loss the next day, the 3 HR game by Suwinski, and it’s been all downhill since.

The original Time Is on My Side had backup singers Cissy Houston, Dionne Warwick and DeeDee Warwick belting the basic lyrics and stealing the show behind what sounds to me like a pretty pedestrian trombone. The later added lyrics didn’t add much. I’d like to find a version of the original, stripped to the backup tracks.

    It’s almost sad…

    1. Lewis Brinson (R) CF
    2. Wilmer Flores (R) 2B
    3. J.D. Davis (R) DH
    4. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
    5. Thairo Estrada (R) LF
    6. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
    7. Austin Wynns (R) C
    8. David Villar (R) 1B
    9. Bryce Johnson (S) RF

    • willedav said, on September 5, 2022 at 4:50 pm

Slush said Slater to IL and Yunior Marte back up.
Hey Kap won yesterday with Johnson Wynns Gonzalez and Villar in there.
There are always PHs he can’t wait to use.

  10. willedav said, on September 5, 2022 at 4:53 pm

94 in LA, about 10 degrees less than here in south bay.
Hope Webb etc can keep ball in the yard. LF corner has always been cheapo HR there.

    apropo considering today’s main thread

  12. djloo27 said, on September 5, 2022 at 5:14 pm

In addition to the signings I posted yesterday, this team needs a different look to help wake it up.
I would go with the mid ’70’s uniforms and the long overdue 3D helmet logos that many teams have had for years…

  13. unca_chuck said, on September 5, 2022 at 7:16 pm

Streameast never works for the big games.

  14. unca_chuck said, on September 5, 2022 at 7:20 pm

    Bryce Johnson? Lewis Brinson?

What’d I miss? How long was I in Montana?

    What happened to Slater?

    • willedav said, on September 5, 2022 at 7:56 pm

Slater jammed his finger trying to steal 2b…there was an ugly twitter pic of it being bent back. Never recovered enough to be able to hit I guess.

      • xoot said, on September 5, 2022 at 9:12 pm

apparently, he popped it back into place on the field. I’ve seen that before, but I bet a trainer could do it better.

  15. unca_chuck said, on September 5, 2022 at 7:33 pm

Wow. Longo for the loss. First ducking play.

  16. xoot said, on September 5, 2022 at 7:51 pm

long armed Brinson strong arms one over the CF fence. Ok. His D has looked ok, too.

  17. unca_chuck said, on September 5, 2022 at 7:52 pm

    Who are these guys?

  18. willedav said, on September 5, 2022 at 7:59 pm

Davis is probably best move Zaidi has made all year. Giants need all the HR hitters they can get. Crawford stuck on 7, Slater has 5, yaz and Belt are toast, LaStella has 2 all season, Gonzalez is singles hitter yada yada.

  19. xoot said, on September 5, 2022 at 8:10 pm

well, will Webb do better the second time through the bums LU? I bet he will.

    • xoot said, on September 5, 2022 at 8:22 pm

no more HRs, yet. Come on Logan.

  20. willedav said, on September 5, 2022 at 8:11 pm

wow good for the kid. I’d looked up his game log on cbs site. Before he got sent down, btw mid july to August after a good day when he went 2-4 and BA was about .260, he went 5-33.
and since he’s been back up, coming into tonight 0-7.
How cool to knock one out of Latrine.

  21. unca_chuck said, on September 5, 2022 at 8:25 pm

If Webb gets out of this with only 1 run scoring that is a win.

  22. unca_chuck said, on September 5, 2022 at 8:44 pm

Holy shit. Revenge of the defense. This is a nutty game.

  23. Macdog said, on September 5, 2022 at 8:45 pm

Webb is giving up one frozen rope after another, bailed out that inning by the dumb 3rd base coach and Longo.

  24. zumiee said, on September 5, 2022 at 9:03 pm

It was awesome to see Trea Turner get tagged out on that cutesy pop-up slide he likes to do. He does that pop-up slide all the time, usually in situations that don’t require it. He thinks he looks really cool doing it. He looks like a doofus doing it. And he popped off of second base and got tagged out. It’s one of the highlights of the game.

  25. willedav said, on September 5, 2022 at 9:05 pm

Baggs said SB #17 by Estrada was most for Giants since Nunez 2017.

  26. unca_chuck said, on September 5, 2022 at 9:06 pm

Webby getting another inning is a bit curious. The Dogs have been measuring him up pretty good.

    • xoot said, on September 5, 2022 at 9:11 pm

he’s kept them in the park since the first

      • willedav said, on September 5, 2022 at 9:25 pm

Yes very important. Let’s hope pen can do same.

  27. willedav said, on September 5, 2022 at 9:32 pm

  29. mrsprtdude said, on September 5, 2022 at 10:08 pm

I keep saying to myself it doesn’t matter now, that it doesn’t matter if we lose, but I still care. Always will. Never gets old beating the Dodgers. Hope Doval finishes it off! Go Giants!!

  30. Macdog said, on September 5, 2022 at 10:13 pm

  34. xoot said, on September 5, 2022 at 10:35 pm

Pavlovic notes that Kapler’s decision to replace Villar in LF just after he hit his HR was a defensive move that probably made the great relay play at the plate possible (on that end). Bryce J handled the drive well and made a good, quick relay to Crawford. I bet Crawford meditates to be ready to execute the next one of those perfect throws home he’s called upon to make.

  35. zumiee said, on September 5, 2022 at 10:53 pm

Well-played and nice to get the win.
