On The Ropes
Ouch. Post season chances took a big hit last night. Plummeted from 1.1% back to 0.6%. Starting to feel a slight sting. That’s pride fucking with me. Some say pride only hurts it never helps. Fuck that. Play for pride. It’s about all we got left….
Hey good for Brinson but all this does is point out the struggles the Giants LH OFs have had all along vs. LHP–Yaz Wade Jr sucked last year at it and still do. Gonzalez hits .200 off leftys and Joc is streaky vs. everyone. Maybe Brinson at least forces Giants to look at him as someone who can handle CF and add some pop.
Baggs had pretty good idea about September rosters in Athletic–use NHL guidelines and limit only daily game roster to 28 instead of how it’s done now, 28 for entire team. that way teams can bring up or add extra players and then pick/choose who is on/off roster for that particular game.
Totally agree. Play for pride, or fun, whatever just play to win and give 100%. All we got left is spoiler.
Who can be the first one to tell me where I got the main thread from
Howard Cosell?
Custer?
wow, surprised this is taking so long. It’s loosely related to a scene from a famous movie.
Rocky?
Ronald Reagan movie. One for the Gipper. Or Bad News Bears.
Wow! Still no. This movie came out in the early 90s
Pulp Fiction, The Gold Watch (Butch). Just a guess.
Rocky 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9?
Dodgers are such obnoxious fuckers…
Agreed from Roberts on down to all the players.
Oh shit. What happened?
Villar is at least something nice unfolding. Who knows? Still gotta get the big dick bats on this team but plopping a Villar or two here and there is fine.
Xoot got it–the scene where Marcellas Wallace is encouraging Butch to take a dive.
yeah, and just after that convo Vincent Vega enters the bar wearing a goofy UCSC Banana Slug tshirt, swaggering as if he’s just accomplished something. After I guessed, I googled it and found that it doesn’t occur in The Gold Watch chapter, but in an earlier one. Some scholar I am.
Just read where the MLB’s players union just signed up with the AFL-CIO. That is an interesting situation. The minor leagues will probably follow soon. Good for baseball.
Can you throw a fatter pitch?
I tune in for one pitch, and thar was it.
‘That’
So much for that.
shit
Thar she blows . . .
Home just in time to see the 8th inning melt down.
How the hell did the Giants get swept by the fucking awful Twinkies? The Yanks today, other than Judge, couldn’t have trotted out a worse lineup and in 12 innings, they still beat the Twinkies, as they always do.
Seemed inevitable Muncy would do them in. Cobb though, day after the pen game/day before double header in Milwaukee, takes 93 pitches to go 4 1/3. Old man Opie went a solid 6 with 0 BBs and 8Ks, while Cobb gave up 7 hits and 3 walks. Giants needed more out of SP.
Opie still going, for a guy who made his debut in 2008 and started 21 games at age 20.
ERA and FIP are under 3.00, WHIP is less than 1.00. Walks less than 2 per 9 Ks more than 9.
League hitting .210 off him.
And he was drafted the same year as Lincecum still amazes me!
Apropos of absolutely nothing: Was wondering if stats are kept for things like number of assist/put-out plays between the same 2 players. Kind of like number of TD passes by the Young-Rice combination. Crawford to Belt must be near the top of a list like that. Those 2 played a lot of catch over 11 or so years….
Or the baseball version of Stockton-Malone.
Don’t know where to find that but interesting to think about.
Pee-Wee/Hodges?
Russell/Garvey?
Lazzeri/Gehrig?
Yeah, figured there could be more “old-timer” infielders that played together a long time before free agency kicked in. Craw is nowhere to be seen on all-time assists list, nor is Belt for put-outs, but in this day and age, seems unusual for a team to have the same SS and 1Bman for so long…
Ripkin/Murray?
