Changing Of The Seasons And The Sports
The Giants are playing in Milwaukee. That’s about all I have to say about that…..
NFL is back, baby! I’m into it mostly for the draftkings games but the Niners seem to have a legit shot, at least that’s what everyone keeps saying.
I guess we’ll see!
As far as total chances for Craw/Belt combo, statcast has that data somewhere, so giants would have it at least from whenever statcast started. And be aware of how many errors Belt saved.
If you look at Craw career page on B/R, he normally plays (since 2012) 1200 innings a season, with 6oo fielding chances. This year he is at 800 innings, less than 400 chances, but has lowest fielding pct of entire career (.957) and with 16 errors in sight of most he’s ever made, 18 and 21.
Brewers have Burnes and Peralta going today, and they need these 2. Lost second game in row to Rox yesterday, and went 2-5 on road trip that has left them 4 behind SD and Philly for last WC.
In injury report, their SP Eric Lauer left game early with elbow tightness after getting bombed.
Also interesting if not fun fact: Kris Bryant in walking boot… He has played 42 games all season, with 160 ABs. oy
Lol I didn’t even know today was a DH
mm first game starts 1:10 our time. Scott Alexander supposed to be SP, Junis in second game though obviously anyone could be int there. Gonzalez should probably stay loose.
Column in Athletic with questions about last month of season (and offseason) for all 5 teams/writers in NL West. Man, Baggs went off, echoing lot of stuff said here about getting better team on field to rachet up interest from fanbase etc.
Was this originally a one-game series? Rain out and strike deal? Or is this a real double-header?
Do they even have those anymore? The fucking powers that be should schedule 1 doubleheader a month to shorten the season.
I loved double-headers, I think I went everyone the Giants had at home from 81-84. There were quite a few of them.
I saw the Ed Halicki no-hitter at the Stick vs. the Mets, as a second game of a doubleheader in the 1970s.
BF has mentioned being at that doubleheader, and maybe another Flapper that I can’t remember.
In the first game of that doubleheader, the Mets clobbered the Giants, with Kingman hitting 2 HRs for the Mets. I think one of them was a grandslam, if I remember correctly.
August 24 1975 Jersey Ed from Monmouth U no hits Mets. Very cool you guys saw one. Used to hit Sunday DHs in 60s when I was in HS. Always fun, though in those days you could bring sack lunch in with you and grab ice cream or soda/snacks from vendors walking around everywhere.
yes. My first game was the Halicki no hitter. We were sitting under the over hang, third base side up the left field line a bit

thanks man these are so cool. Mets had awesome Matlack, Kong Felix Millan and Staub. Giants still had Sarge and Willie the Phillie, Speier, and Derrel Thomas, Von Joshua one of those guys who played for Dogs too. He even got into 1974 WS they lost to A’s, playing 81 games that year as Dogs won 102.
on turf no less yuck.
1. LaMonte Wade Jr. (L) 1B
2. Mike Yastrzemski (L) CF
3. Wilmer Flores (R) DH
4. Joc Pederson (L) LF
5. Thairo Estrada (R) 2B
6. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
7. David Villar (R) 3B
8. Luis Gonzalez (L) RF
9. Joey Bart (R) C
P: Scott Alexander (L)
Today’s doubleheader was likely crammed into the schedule as a result of the season starting late. Giants already played once in Milwaukee, a 4-2 win April 25, on a Monday in between playing at DC and home vs. the A’s. The doubleheader will complete the 3-game series.
8 games over next 7, including 3 with LA here starting Monday night after ESPN game Sunday in Windy vs. Cubs.
Giants have to go through rotation 4 more times, likely without Wood. Also saw possibility they hold back Rodon so he doesn’t get hurt and they get stuck with $22 mil option for next year.
Saw the last twi-night double-header at the Stick in ’88 when game 2 against the Dodgers resulted in a riot. Incredible night. My GF at the time was a huge Cards fan and she was telling me how the Cubs/Cards rivalry was the best in baseball. So I took her to the Giants Dodgers doubleheader. Giants lost both, but game 2 was insane. We snuck down about 10 rows behind the Dodgers dugout.
‘The beach at Okinawa was safer,’ said Giants president Al Rosen. ‘That was the worst I’ve ever seen. I was frightened, shocked and disgusted. Those weren’t fans last night. They came out for a show, looking for problems and they got caught up in the fervor of the thing.’

Thanks for the box-scores, Loo.
Only 1 HR for Kingman in the first game, but it was a grandslam. And he also hit a double and a single. The 9-5 score was closer than I remembered, although the score WAS 9-2 at one point.
And the 9-5 game clocked in at 2 hours and 45 minutes, lulz.
The most unsafe I ever felt at the Stick was at a 4th of July game. There were several fights in the stands during the game because of so many drunk fans. And some people were setting off what sounded like cherry bomb firecrackers, which sound like dynamite exploding. It felt very dangerous in the stadium, as if some drunken idiot might lob a cherry bomb anywhere at any time.
One of the few fistfightw I was in was in the Stick parking lot. Sort of a rolling scrum with about 4-5 on each side across a few rows of cars. Ended up drinking at the Bit later with some of them.
Good times.
“when he’s getting every borderline strike he’s impossibly good.” Baggs on Burnes, who as he admits is really really good anyway/
Is Yaz just completely done? Has he done anything these last 3 months?
1 HR, 3 RBI in the last month.
Pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft
I heard he trimmed the hedges and took out the garbage a couple of times…
let’s hope that Mosquito Fire in Placer/El dorado counties isn’t anywhere near Blade and Chi.
Yes, hope all are, and stay safe.
Where has Chi been? Haven’t seen a post by him in a long time.
Yes thoughts and prayers for Blade&Chi!
I was driving back from Reno yesterday morning and their was plenty of smoke coming in at the top of Donner Summit and I’m like where did this come from? Now I know, damm fires have been out of control for many years now..
That seemed like one of those 7-inning doubleheader games.
A six total hit game, pretty well played by both teams, but we just got beat.
Junis looks like a keeper to me.
Yeah, he was going great before he got hurt. He’s getting back into shape it looks like. The only game I went to this year was the one he got hurt. Some time in early June.
Wow, Queen Elizabeth has died. 96 years young. I think the Brits are absolutely daft for throwing money at these people and following this King/Queen shit going forward, but Christ on a bicycle, she took the reins over 70 years ago in 1952. To say times have changed is the understatement of the year.
Alfred E. Neuman is now in charge of cutting ribbons and presiding over ex-colonies that resent the fuck out of them.
Come on Uncca, ya gotta love King Chuck. in name anyway.
She outlived half the Beatles…
Dang, Joc not having any better luck with this ump either.
Might as well swing the bat, eh?
In the early 60s, serious cold war period, I lived on an AFB in England. There were so many US families on myriad AFBs on that island we had large LLeagues and good PSs. Some coaches with pro experience, too. One kid on my team loved the queen. His parents took him to see her royal cavalcade trot through a local town, then he talked all season long about how beautiful she was. Fucking lunatic, I thought. Still do.
Again, I hate bullpen games.
I hate Giant games.
I’m getting there.
Bills and Rams about to start.
zzzz Since walkoff bomb Wilmet is 1-18. 3-30.
They don’t rest him enough.
He’s not quite an every day player…
agreed.
Can’t get excited when the Giants roll out the same old scrub Lu and now with a 3rd straight Bullpen game where the starter goes 1 inning? It’s a joke
Football is here thank god and my starting QB is Josh Allen , now that’s exciting as he will carve up the Lambs tonight! Can’t believe this is his first ever game playing on the west coast..
streameast is back in biz? Since when?
TD Bills that was sweet.
Allen was just toying with the Lambs on that perfect opening drive, as McVay looked already beaten on the sidelines ..
Well from reading the SF Chronicle it appears the Giants are looking to have a bunch of super utility players. How sad is that.
96 years “young”
Please stop…
She was Adam & Eve’s fuckin grandmother…
Hah!! Thought you’d like that.
Buffalo is giving this one away. Their defense is containing the Rams, but are fucking up all over the place. Fucking Stafford with the obligatory horrible pick.
What happened to Hjelle?
He beaned Urias in head and Kap took him out. Urias has stayed in game.
Pitch ran in and I think caught the flap, not his face or head.
TD Bills.
Rams getting pushed around by Buff. If not for the turnovers, this is a cakewalk.
Joc knock.
Who’s there?
Hjelle did fine. 5 innings 3 hits 1 run 2 BBs 6 Ks. Kept them in it after first when they were down 3-0.
Oh. He didn’t start?
Nah Anthony Young the lefty did.
Thanks. Hjelle looked pretty good what I saw of him.
Might as well just fake an injury anytime you want a free timeout…
Unwatchable Giants were my 4th choice tonight, after tennis, football and Yanks.
Unca’s video at 5:10, haha, someone had to post it.
Hah! Check this out. I love these things. (stealing this from Winder on my blog :). The Falstaff ads are worth the price of admission.
wow very cool. Falstaff guy was hilarious. Unitas Jim Brown in their heyday. Abe woodson Alley Oop R C Owens, very cool.
I had forgotten we traded John Henry Johnson to the Lions. Brodie’s the holder for Tommy Davis!
My first Niner game in 1978, Davis was still the kicker.
68.
