A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

The Giants Suck But Stanford Does Not

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 10, 2022

Playing Stanford today, gentlemen. Very excited. Hoping the Giants improve on the 3 hits they got yesterday vs their old *pal* Drew Smyly. Come to think of it I’d be happy with as many 3’s today as I can muster.

mm SC appears reloaded, Cards idk. Can Emmitt Smith’s kid EJ score against someone better than Colgate?
Rain delay at Petco last night??? At Del Mar they took races off the turf yesterday, 3-4 of them.

huh Chron said little over half inch rain in SD yesterday.

What is the point of continuing to play Longoria who is 100% gone, poor Mr. Ed,
who’s about to collapse from exhaustion and our chubby old SS?
Can’t they just give some fuckin’ “kids” a look for a few meaningless weeks?
Stop babying these guys and run ’em out there every damn day.
On the bright side Z sure fleeced the NY teams for JD & Thairo.
    Thairo is 23/90/.253 in 653 career AB…

Davis I like but he is in slump, like most of all the hitters. An IF they were going to bring up got hurt and is out for year, Diaz.

Man, this shit is dressing up the pig for the ball.

Is banning the shift really gonna change that much? Do they really think BAs are gonna shoot up 30-40 points because of this? Nope.

Guys are still gonna swing for the fences and either K or hit a bomb. They are still gonna take pitches due to a tiny strike zone. If umps started calling high strikes, it would get the bat off players’ shoulders. We’d have a lot less 10-12 pitch ABs.

      • djloo27 said, on September 10, 2022 at 9:14 am

Not sure where I heard or read this, but how come you’re out if you bunt foul with 2 strikes but it’s ok to foul off endless pitches to keep your AB alive?
I think that rule should be changed.
Not fair to pitchers and so sick of hearing what a great AB a guy is having cause he’s fouling off pitch after pitch…

      • unca_chuck said, on September 10, 2022 at 9:47 am

Because it is easier to but than to hit the ball.

  4. djloo27 said, on September 10, 2022 at 9:05 am

The bases are no longer 90 feet apart…

    • unca_chuck said, on September 10, 2022 at 9:06 am

      They are what, 3″ closer?

      • djloo27 said, on September 10, 2022 at 9:08 am

        Not sure – 3 or 6?

    • xoot said, on September 10, 2022 at 1:23 pm

the IF will still be a 90′ square, with corners of the bases at the right angles, no?

  5. djloo27 said, on September 10, 2022 at 9:19 am

Are you allowed to use 5 infielders if you want?
What’s the penalty for violating the new shift rules?
This shit is stupid and who the fuck is gonna do all this clock watching?

  6. blade3colorado said, on September 10, 2022 at 10:09 am

Agree with everything Loo and Unca said. This is putting lipstick on a fucking pig. For the 1000th time, implement the rules from the 60s, e.g., get rid of about half the freaking pitchers on rosters.

  7. willedav said, on September 10, 2022 at 10:16 am

Reducing shift will benefit LHs, and anyone who likes to pull the ball. As Joc said, no more Manny Machado fielding line drives in short RF. Will also make it more important for 2b/SS to have range.
Penalty for pitch clock vio is an automatic ball, and for making too many throws to 1b it’s an automatic balk advancing runner. One of A’s guys said if you asked Rickey Henderson about it (2 throw limit) he’d tell you Rickey is gonna steal 200 bags.
Data from minors suggests game times can be shortened by 20-30 minutes via new rules (hitters too have to be in box), and BAs/OB pct do go up as more ground balls get through. More baserunners, and more steals. What’s not to like? Except for pitchers who said when they are in trouble with runners on, taking more time helps.

Davis homered for Giants in game Aug 17 vs. AZ.
Since then, 6-40 1 HR 7 BBs/22 Ks. He does add power to lineup but swings and misses a lot.

MLB did test rule changes in minors so guys coming up have familiarity. Vets will adjust, coaches too. By end of 60s ball was also extreme pitching era that led to rule changes. Remember, Yaz won batting title in 1968 at .301.

Check out Giants HR totals as team in 60s. 62 and 63 they were league leaders at 200.
    64-66 they were no worse than 3rd, with 165 159 and 181.
67 68 they hit 140 and 108, and were 2nd NL both seasons.

    Giants release Dominic Leone hallelujah!
Cut bait while you can with some of these stiffs and bring up Dabovich for experience down the stretch in these mealiness games..

Bart already has double and 2 run HR. Giants up 4-2 early, Webb vs. Stroman.
Texas almost had Bama. QB really tough, evading that blitzer off edge for 17 yd scramble iced it.

    • djloo27 said, on September 10, 2022 at 1:00 pm

Bart’s done a pretty good job establishing himself this season.
I was having serious doubts it would ever happen.
I guess he’s one of very few bright spots.
It amazes me how many catchers (Bart included) refuse to provide a target for the pitcher…

No Giants ball for me today. In Greensboro NC at a festival some friend are playing at. Wish it wasnt raining.

Willie, plan on swinging by High Point NC tomorrow to see the Coltrane statue.

Awesome, enjoy man. Was listening to original version of Naima today, with tommy flanagan. One of most beautiful things I’ve ever heard.

  13. djloo27 said, on September 10, 2022 at 1:18 pm

What time does our dressed up, lipstick wearing pig leave for the ball?

  14. willedav said, on September 10, 2022 at 1:32 pm

Villar with another bomb. having helluva road trip.

  15. alleykat69 said, on September 10, 2022 at 1:43 pm

4HR’s for Villar on this road trip..
I’d just stick him at 1st next year give him 500 plus AB’s ,Davis at 3rd,Estrada 2B, SS Bogarts,C Bart, Judge CF
Crawford full time DH against RH pitching part time SS to give Bogarts a day off..

Giants looked ok today — if only we’d seen life like this mid season.

Well, the Fightin’ Irish already cratered so there’s that. didn’t even know the game was that early. Did watch Washington State knock off #19 Wisconsin.

to credit Loo’s 8:37, read a story on mlbtr about them calling up top OF prospect to replace injured Starling Marte. Noted in column is that D Ruf has hit only .156 with OPS in .400s since becoming Met in Davis deal. Wasn’t cutting it here in SF either before the trade. W for Z.

  21. unca_chuck said, on September 10, 2022 at 5:08 pm

Snodfart QB playing some really dumb football.
