Let Down Time
I’m just totally bummed about this Trey thing. Watching him this year was like the ONE thing I was looking forward to in terms of the NFL. Yeah, sure, I love the Niners but I am a firm believer that Jimmy’s best days are behind him. He’s ok. He’s better than what we were going to have backing up Trey and that’s why I supported the signing. But he’s impossibly boring and infuriating to watch.
My interest in this season going forward is pretty minimal. I guess if they keep winning that will fix my mood but I personally hate watching Garrapolo play (love his professional team first attitude, though).
Yeah, this just sucks. And I 100% blame Shanahan for this.
I heard Shanny’s excuses in the post game and he’s FOS. He pointed to *Buffalo and said that’s a totally normal play for a QB. Uh, no it’s not idiot. Not for a QB with Lance’s experience. He ran a play that he knew would have multiple 300 pound dudes collapsing on him. That was just idiotic.
Like the moronic play call that ONLY got Mahomes a dislocated knee cap about 3 years ago…
Shanahan is an idiot. Is Deebo Samual on the team? Did we pay him all that money for nothing? Do they ever see how the Rams target Kupp? Guessing not!
Can we pass him the Fing ball? or choose not to. Can we constantly run the ball? We got Lance because Jimmy can’t throw the ball down field right? Then let lance throw the fucking ball down field!!!!! Put Samuel, Aiyuk and Gray on the field on on every fucking play!! Gray runs deep, and our 2 YAK gods go underneath?
NOPE. Niners are even harder to root for than the the Giants. Imagine if we had the Dodgers talent and played like the Giants???? Niners have great talent according to all the experts and yet we suck ass. GRR
And as always the dumb motherfuckin announcers hammer home the obvious point that the ground rule double was a bad break for the offense like it ever isn’t…
It does eliminate the possibility of the runner being thrown out trying to take the extra base.
Will this be my last ever Flap post?
Still rooting for Rogers to get his ERA below 4. Go Tyler.
Finishing strong. game log says 8 1/3 shutout innings 5 hits 1 BB 7 Ks.
LOL
Just unreal…
Wilmet crushed his too, the one Bellinger snagged.
every Giants fuckup is a “microcosm” of their season for that lead announcer
I feel like this game started in June…
I thought we might have pulled it off in the 10th but I guess that’s what I get for thinking. Even with the Niners win it was still a bad day for SF sports. Waiting to see who we snag for backup QB.
That was some seriously feeble baseball from the Giants this weekend. I think tonight’s broadcasters really felt sorry for the Giants.
Runners on first and second, and no out, and Joc strikes out trying to bunt. I don’t even know what that is. That’s not anything.
Well, we needed the rain.
I can’t even tell you how pissed off I am at Kyle Shamahan. I wanted him fired after the Super Bowl collapse, and last year after the NFCCG collapse.
What happens this season? Another 4th quarter collapse. Oh good. A.d then today.
After this, my first thought was when Eddie D fired OC Mark Trestman (He’s GONE!) in a presser right after a particularly bad loss.
He would have done the same to Shanahan. That was the THIRD QB draw Shanny called for Lance. In the 1st quarter. Brilliant. Is this how you protect the guy you spent so much draft capital to get?
I simply have no fucking clue what they think they are doing to develop Lance. The idiots on 95.7 were saying ‘obviously Lance isn’t playing well and so they are forced to run him.’
If they drafted Lance expecting to run him 10-15 times a game, they should all be fired. Do they really think this is a viable strategy? They are out of their fucking minds.
Shanahan is hell-bent on getting Lance hurt. He seems to have wanted this outcome. There is NO FUCKING REASON to use 3 first round picks on a quarterback and then run him between the tackles. 3 times. In the 1st quarter. Of his 4th game.
I said all this shot before the season started that Shanny CAN’T treat him like a running QB. He will get killed. Like he will kill Deebo when he goes to the WR draw one too many times.
I guess it makes them look smart for holding on to Jimmy. The presser was even more galling. His attitude was, oh well. it’s football. I wanted to strangle him. Tragic how Shanahan appears to want to derail lance’s career before it starts.
Even with winning 107 games last season, my 94 win prediction in March seemed optimistic, but the Giants didn’t need to prove that I was a complete idiot, I can do that by myself.
Hell, this team might not even be able to sleepwalk the rest of the season to 74 wins.
yeah, the last 2 years of Flap win predictions have been mostly a huge embarrassment except for maybe one or two Flappers
idk, I get the Shanny hate but I don’t buy him bearing sole responsible for the injury. To me it’s more to do with Lance inexperience and running style. Every team runs RPO type plays and it’s up to QB to make the read. I think Niners are far more comfortable doing this with Lance at this stage of his development than just going straight drop back read the D and throw it downfield as they do with G. He’s not there yet at all, at this point in career.
Plus, lack of experience vs. D1 level athletes let alone NFL speed of LBs and safeties means he has to adjust how he runs, and my god slide more often and quicker. Stay away from Roquan Smith types, dude. He has the speed, just not smarts yet how best to avoid these guys at this level.
Sure. As a RPO you could say this is partly on Trey. Had he passed this wouldn’t have been an issue. I’m not talking about this specific play tho. It has been more of Shanny’s constant push to have him run between tackles. I don’t think that’s something a brand new QB with no experience and very little college experience should be doing as often as he had been doing it.
Running a QB between the tackles is ludicrous. 100% of the time. Especially the guy who you think is your future QB that you traded 3 first round picks for. They ran THREE QB draws in the FIRST QUARTER yesterday. He has 54 rushes in 3+ games. Yes, he’s inexperienced. So, naturally you throw him into the line? Fuck that. This is 100% on Shanahan. It isn’t like this didn’t happen in the other games he played. He took too many heavy shots last week.
It would be like buying a Ferrari and thinking, hmmm, let’s go 4-wheeling. This car is basically the same as a 4×4.
Why do you think RBs have a shelf life of 3 seasons? Because 320 lb linemen fall on them all the time.
Why do you think Deebo held out this year? Because he was being used as anRB bewtween the tackles. When HE goes down to injury, I’m sure Shanny will say the same shit.
I can’t wait until they use Robbie Gould as Juice’s backup.
Click the YouTube thing and it comes up…
Hey Chuck, if I liked today’s game/brand of NFL football, I would be following your blog . . . Your analysis is always in depth and spot on. SF Chronicle should hire you. Honorable mention to mrsprtdude (5:35pm post yesterday).
If this is how the team is developing Lance in practice, then they wasted 3 first round picks on a guy who will be crippled by the time his rookie deal is done.
Lance needs work on his throwing mechanics, not running into 320 lb linemen. He needs work dropping back and passing.
The kid never had a chance. It was a terrible play call. I can’t remember but I think we needs 5 or 6 yards for a first. That play is lucky to get 3 due to the position of the field we were in. I have had it with Shanny’s offense. We might as well hired Jimmy Hat if he is still alive.
*if he’s still alive, lol
Hah!! The situation pretty much called for a run, and seeing as Shanahan is as imaginative as vanilla Mike Nolan, yeah a run with someone was the usual call. Putting your future QB in that pileup was retarded.
And yeah, Mahomes got hurt on a sneak, but even that is fairly rare. Mahomes is small so I woildn’t do it with him regardless. You hear Shamahan compare Lance to Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson, and I wanted to kill him. Lance isn;t small, but he isn’t near as big as Allen OR Jackson. He’s tall and lanky and not suited to be a fullback. So of course Shanny says, “Yeah, I’ll make those calls again when he comes back.” By that measure, he should be fired.
Like the Don Nelson/Chris Webber feud, management picked the wrong side to back. If they do that here, then they’ve pissed away 3 1st round picks.
Like I said, if he’s trying to develop Lance as a runner, he’s on glue. We need a coach to develop Lance as a passer who can escape pressure, not a fucking fullback who throws occasionally.
And, thanks Blade. Stop on by. I’lll leave the light on.
Hate to say it but with the ankle break, developing Lance as a pocket passer might be their only choice. Chances are he’ll be less mobile and always tweaking the thing going forward.
Longoria…..
Struck out with the bases loaded and one out.
And then in the 10th, with two runners on, gets a couple of hanging breaking pitches and fouls them off, and then draws a walk. Sure, a walk, fine; but he’s getting paid a lot of money to pound hanging breaking pitches. What a dud he’s been, overall, with the Giants.
And what is the point of running him out there when they’re 67 games back?
That last AB from Yaz. Wow, the announcers didn’t even know what to say. Yaz looked like me trying to hit major league pitching. Not a good thing, to say the least.
Happy for him. I sense he’s not approved of here, due to his association with Z and/or this season, but I think he will be missed. Wishing him good luck with the hapless Tigers, which have floundered since Leyland left in 2014.
Smart to bail ship while you can Scott.Take Krapler with you.
GM’s must be a dime a dozen, they’re like the VP of the United States, nobody gives a shit about the #2.You never heard from Harris all year basically, so his role seemed useless as all dealings went only thru Farhan with the approval first from the chump suit crew of many useless positions..
As you know I’m not much of Zaidi fan and even less of a Kapler fan, but I always thought that Harris was a great hire.
He has a good young team in Detroit and should do well with them.
And now a new alltime low embarrassment for the SF Giants..
Some vendors were seen selling Dodgers jerseys/gear inside Oracle.
Organization quickly turned it into a missed communication with a 3rd party vendor they used and it will never happen again.WTF?? That’s probably BS figuring in a bad season and with the park already 2/3 Dogpile fans they thought hmm 🤔 let’s make some extra revenue off of them..
You know they did.
I hear the vendor used to sell only Negro League merchandise and gear down on a lower level. He got placed up on the top tier, outdoors, behind the view box seats and was not making money. In the photos from this weekend, you can see some of his Negro League stuff for sale. Wonder if he even has a license to sell LA merch? Anyway, it was as the announcers say a microcosm of the Giants/bums series this year.
What did Harris actually do? Like John Lynch on the 49ers, they are guys who glad-hand and hang out in the lux suite during games. They are fugureheads.
How much was he allowed to do in SF would be my question.
He has a lot of young talent to work with in Detroit, so I think it’ll be a good move on his part.
The Niners run the football on days like yesterday because it works–189 yards worth, 5 more than they passed for, and oh btw 150 more than Seattle got. If Shanahan wants to use a new and different weapon from his arsenal, so be it. Lance passed 3 times/ran 3 times yesterday. I’m not blowing up at him over 1 play out of all the ones they ran that didn’t work. Samuel, like it or not, is one helluva of a runner who broke one for 51 yards. There is zero reason not to run the guy when he is this good at it. One of those carries he was about to be stopped behind the line and then faked 2 guys out and blew past them on way to 10 yd. gain.
was that last drive ugly to watch? Yes, very much. did it effing work, by running out clock on Seattle and forcing them to use their timeouts, result being G punching it in for TD that culminated in 20 point W???? Totally. Case closed.
When Deebo gets injured this season, as he did last season, and the year before when he missed 8 games, then what? Robbie Gould at RB? Sure Deebo breaks one every now and again. But I’d rather see him catching 35 yard passes 2-3 times a game rather than him getting waylaid by a DT as he tries to run up the middle. Sure it works. Once in a while. He had a 51 yard run and 3 0 yard runs. Whatever. It’s just putting a playmaker at risk. Run him wide? Sure. But none of this up the middle shit.
A better offense would have come back against the conservative play calling yesterday by Shanahan. This is the same fucking problem I had with Harbaugh. He constantly made his players have to break 3-4 tackles to just get 4 yards. 4 yard swing passes on 3rd and 8. Run run pass punt.
Like I said, this lost us the Super Bowl and last season’s NFCCG. Shanahan has no idea how to close out a team. This may work in the reg season, but not in the playoffs. As we are painfully aware. Seattle is a SHITTY team. They are NO benchmark to measure against. If we play like this vs KC, we lose. The Rams? Loss.
Look at the Bears game. ONE play broke Shanahan’s will and he turtled up and lost. They fucking outscored us 19-0 last week in the 2nd half! The Bears! They suck harder than Seattle.
Hard to believe you are still unhinged over a game where they thrashed effing Hawks and D shut them down. Turnaround game minus all the mistakes and dumb penalties from week before, played in extreme weather.
Take the W vs. hated rival and move on.
The guy I wonder about whose job has to be on the line is Kyle Haines, in I think 4th year of being in charge of Player Development. it’s just about time to see how many of those who were deemed top prospects can actually get to ML roster beside Bart. Unfortunate Giants got so little help from Sac team that won Coast League last year, beyond Villar, when so many IFs were hurt and underperforming. Kap didn’t have kind words to say about Ramos except for his range in OF and Giants haven’t used him at all despite need for RH OF all season long, instead using stiffs like Mercedes in LF/DH.
Lot of areas of need, that might have to get filled in FA market, til prospects show up.
Wordle in 2 today. The only thing that’s gone right today, e.g., tree cutter on another property just broke my water line. Grrr
Oh shit. Messing with the stump? How’d they manage that?
Just dropping large pieces of trunk onto the ground. Unbeknownst to everyone, is the fact that the geniuses at EID (Eldorado County Irrigation District) allows water lines to be buried only 8” deep. Unfuckingbelievable.
I didn’t realize this. It does change things.
This is from Nick Wagner of espn
“Lance’s ankle injury occurred with about 2:20 to go in the first quarter on a second-down zone-read run in which Lance decided to keep the ball rather than hand off to receiver Ray-Ray McCloud. Lance burst up the middle, but Seahawks linebacker Cody Barton met him in the hole after a 2-yard gain.”
Yeah, read-option run. To me, the play still should not be in the book. Nowhere in any of the press clippings did I read that they wanted to develop Lance as a read-option QB.
It was all about taking the top off the defense. The big arm. The deep game. Not this fucing college shit.
I understand all that and it was still a bad call IMO but it wasn’t a designed QB keeper up the middle if what they are saying is true.
Read option btw tackles worked pretty well for Lamar Jackson yesterday. Faked handoff to right, ran 79 yards for TD, from right hashmark. College D1 QBs are smart enough to dive to ground or slide while 3 yds away from tacklers to avoid getting hit. As starting QB he gets all the practice reps for these plays, and has to make the decisions come game time. Experience will help and he’ll adjust running style, hopefully.
And now to add to the injury list cause it’s the 49ers every year:
RB Tyrion Davis Price will be out 4 weeks are longer with a high ankle sprain!
Jordan Mason are even Marlon Mack from practice squad( the king of chat rooms for some reason?) are next man up.. I swear the 49ers backfield is CURSED every season!!
Maybe we should try and pass the ball more. Same thing happens every year.
Pence in booth tonight with Flems and Miller. Giants making it interesting after getting down 6-2 early. um, staying ahead of Rockies would be good way to end season.
Going to extras in a game we made 4 errors. One benefit of the season being effectively over (since we are still playing the old guys Bart is the only player that interests me) is I don’t get mad about it:) Go Giants!
ESTRADA!!!
Thairo un-Thais it!
Estrada hitting it outta dere.
3 run bomb for Thairo as Giants take 10-7 lead too 10. Trying best to keep Rockies in their place.
Thairo! Wilmer and Thairo are a couple of bright spot this year. All year. iirc, Thairo hit the HR in the 9th inning opening day that sent the game into extras.
Wow down 7-5 in the 9th the Giants rally to tie it up.
2 outs in the 10th and here comes Estrada to tell it good bye for a 10-7 lead!
Come on pen close this mother F….er out!!
Hey, heard the last out! Got to stay out of the cellar!
Giants Win theee Giants win!!’
How about that! Alexander looks like a keeper..
He’s 33 years young . . . but yeah, he;s been doing well.
Still have some fight left.
