A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Carlos Rodon

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 23, 2022

Rodon has been brilliant this year. He leads the league in FIP which both shows how much value he had at the break AND is a great reason to resign him in the off season. Still, he’ll be 30 next year. That could be a tough contract to swallow.

It’ll be interesting to see how he’s used in these last 3 starts. Do they limit him as they did Webb because they think they’re getting him back or do they push him to his pitch limit and possibly beyond? Could be a tell either way.

___________

The GREAT TedSpe showed up last night, presumably to say goodbye to this place. Besides being a Flap HOFer he’s one of the guys who saved the Flap 10 years ago from being torched with his heartfelt posts. He’s got some epic POTD’s in the Flap HOF

A tedspe sighting. He was always one of my favorite posters here. By any chance has anyone ever gone to one of his plays?

Not sure how the Rodon deal will go down but yeah, how they handle his pitch count could be very telling.
I figure one of the first moves they make, or don’t make, is the GM position. Does Farhan go it alone? Since he’s on staff, do they tap J.P. Ricciardi or has the game passed him by.

This offseason should be a defining one for SF on multiple levels, any chance of keeping the Flap open for posts until opening day? No need for new threads, just one long ass offseason dialog. Just a thought.

DeSclafani will be 33 in April and is under contract for 2 more years after making 5 starts this season. As a replacement for what Rodon has done, um how does that make you feel? I’d keep Rodon in heartbeat myself. and I would have kept Gausman too even though there has been drop off from how well he did 2021. His FIP this season is 2.37 but he is more hittable/fewer HRs.

Hey full credit for pen game that worked pretty well, 2 new guys Alexander and Cotton plus Brebbia Rogers Garcia and Doval to finish Rox off. 4 DPs by D, all started by different player.

Nah Bozo. Gotta do a clean break. I’m going to keep it open as an online museum and I part of the reason for that is that I want to be able to fire it up again if I miss it. But I need to have a clean break from it or I won’t know whether i miss it or not.

      Good call. And, you’ll miss it… 🙂

      Makes sense.

As Morgan Freeman once said, “There’s a harsh truth to face”… To get better, short-term and long-term, Giants are going to have to spend money. A lot of money. Fortunately, they seem to have it. They absolutely should re-sign Rodon, they won’t find quality like that elsewhere. Pony up, dudes. Pedersen too. Then go out and nab Correa and Turner and oh by the way bring in the Judge. Hell, if they do half of that this off-season, that would be something. And yes, good to see Ted. Your “Goodnight, gentlemen (?)” is still used here sometimes…

    • pawliekokonuts said, on September 23, 2022 at 8:07 am

Good to “see” you here. Well, that goes for all.

  6. pawliekokonuts said, on September 23, 2022 at 8:06 am

What was TedSpe’s signature sign-off every night . . . something like: “Good night, gentlemen, question mark”?

  7. pawliekokonuts said, on September 23, 2022 at 8:10 am

Who was the woman who was a regular around 2010? If I recall, she went to a playoff game and had a placard that gave a shout to the Flap. And didn’t edddacker post from England? Wouldn’t it be great if Rooster, the Dodger fan, returned from his long dinner to say bye?

    • willedav said, on September 23, 2022 at 8:29 am

Ms. Ferrethead. she used to be in Flap fantasy league, right?

  8. willedav said, on September 23, 2022 at 9:07 am

Think Ms. Ferret is in pic at Giants game in Flap Bucket. Ted’s there too from “we score we win” meet up at ballgame, lot of great shots from that one. Ted was at Flap #2 First and Main, with Blade Snarkk Flav and I think ewisco, who was at first one with James Flav and SanDog, whose brother took pic iirc. Fun times/great people.

    • Flavor said, on September 23, 2022 at 9:13 am

would love to hear from Ewisco again.

There is no death for the Flap. There is only a transition to a different sphere of consciousness. The Flap is not like those other it’s with. The Flap is a living presence in their spiritual earthbound plain. They are attracted to the one thing about The Flap that is different from themselves – its lifeforce. It is very strong. It gives off its own illumination. It is a light that implies life and memory of love and home and Mays, McCovey, Bonds, Clark and earthly pleasures, something they desperately desire but can’t have anymore. Right now, The Flap’s the closest thing to that, and that is a terrible distraction from the real LIGHT that has finally come for them. You understand me? These souls, who for whatever reason are not at rest, are also not aware that they have passed on. They’re not part of consciousness as we know it. They linger in a perpetual dreamstate, a nightmare from which they can not awake. Inside the spectral light is salvation, a window to the next plain. They must pass through this membrane where friends are waiting to guide them to new destinies. The Flap must help them cross over, but for now The Flap will only hear Craig’s voice. Now hold on to yourselves… There’s one more thing. A terrible presence is in there with The Flap. So much rage, so much betrayal, I’ve never sensed anything like it. I don’t know what hovers over this blog, but it was strong enough to punch a hole into this world and try to take The Flap away from us. It keeps The Flap very close to it and away from the spectral light. It LIES to oneflapdown77, it tells it things only a Giants fan could understand. It has been using The Flap to restrain the others. To Flavor Nation, it simply IS another Giants fan. To us, it is the BEAST. It is….the depraved denizens of The Splash

The Flap can’t close down. Sometimes it’s all I have.
My life has been pretty shitty lately. A few months back, as an upwards career move, my girlfriend decided to move to San Jose. That may not seem too far but now all she does is work, go home, eat dinner and go to sleep. She doesn’t have time to even talk on the phone any more. So that’s basically over. My new job’s becoming overwhelming to the point I’m not sure I can function. People have been quitting left and right, they don’t get replaced because the new CEO has made HUGE budget cuts and they’ve been dumping some of these duties on me. And I’ve got Federal examiners coming later this month and I KNOW they’re going to find a bunch of shit to criticize because I’m always playing catch-up. Last night I went out drinking with some friends. When I got home I popped on a DVD and fell asleep in front of the T.V. This is one of those DVDs that when the movie’s over, the DVD just keeps running with the theme song playing over and over and over again until you actually shut it off. So there I am, passed out and apparently the TV was on too loud. Two of my neighbors at the apartment made written complaints to the apartment manager this morning and she called me to tell me that she’s going to start eviction proceedings if there’s ever another complaint about me. And I’ve been living there for 20 years!!?? And this is the first moment I’ve had to even get a chance to post here I think since Sunday. At least it feels that way.
Hopefully this will make some of you guys feel better. A chance for a little Schadenfreude. But no, please don’t shut the Flap down.
    Thanks

Wow. What the hell happened on June 11, 2012?

    • Flavor said, on September 23, 2022 at 12:01 pm

i would have to go check but I think i had finally had it with Twin’s shit and just decided to fuck the whole blog. But it was posts like SPe’s that made me decide to keep it going….lol for ten more years. Anyway, I miss Spe and all the guys from the early days who helped kickstart this place.

    • Flavor said, on September 23, 2022 at 12:03 pm

i still don’t think there’s any way he leaves NY. He’ll use the Giants and other teams to jack the price up to 400 mil. That’s how I see it

  12. unca_chuck said, on September 23, 2022 at 12:01 pm

Huh. Whatever it takes. We’d likely have to pony up 8 years/$400 million.

  13. Flavor said, on September 23, 2022 at 12:10 pm

    i somehow forgot about this

One day after the TedSpe June 12 post, Flav said this:

Since I’m hot right now, I’ll say Cain pitches a no hitter tonight. Why not?

Cain then threw his perfecto against the Astros.

    • Flavor said, on September 23, 2022 at 2:07 pm

Oh snap! That was fucking rad.

    • unca_chuck said, on September 23, 2022 at 3:32 pm

No shit! That’s crazy. My daughter is STILL pissed. She had tix for that game, and a friend of hers wanted to swap for a game 2 days later and she did.

You never know when lightning will strike.

    • willedav said, on September 23, 2022 at 4:25 pm

Went back and read the daily thread with Flav prediction and the game, and then next day (which eventually got explosive). very cool these are still up and all older guys (edd, dirt delmar et al).

Former Giants OF prospect Alexander Canário traded in the Kris Bryant deal hit 3HR’s for the Cubs AAA team the other night! But hey the Giants don’t need outfield prospects when u have Heliot Ramos waiting to breakout..

John Coltrane born on this day 1926 in North carolina. Heard nice version of beautiful “Central Park West” today by Odean Pope and his Saxophone Choir, recorded live at Blue Note in NY 2006. Special guests James Carter Joe Lovano and Michael Brecker, large reed ensemble plus rhythm section.

    • D Locojuan said, on September 23, 2022 at 7:21 pm

Just made a trip up to Greensboro NC for a festival last weekend and swung around to High Point NC to see the statue of Trane there.

Very cool, glad you made it.

      • willedav said, on September 23, 2022 at 7:50 pm

I remember watching PBS Jazz Casual show the quartet did 1963 live in front of Ralph Gleason. No interviews, just music. Fabulous version of “Alabama.”

      • D Locojuan said, on September 23, 2022 at 7:58 pm

I never got to see Trane but did see a few double bills of bands led by two of his drummers, Max Roach and Elvin Jones at Keystone Korner. Don’t remember who was on sax for Elvin but Odean Pope was playing with Max. Killer sets by both bands.

      • willedav said, on September 23, 2022 at 8:05 pm

whoa. Keystone SF was great place.

      • D Locojuan said, on September 23, 2022 at 8:28 pm

Yeah, even when I was broke, I could hang outside to hear. Sometimes the door people would let me just inside the door. An Abbey Lincoln week that wasn’t sold out they let me just go in if I bought a drink. I loved that place.

    • James said, on September 23, 2022 at 10:28 pm

Saw my first jazz show at the Keystone, Billy Harper, touring in support of “Black Saint.” His debut and the first album released on the excellent label with the same name.
