A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Niner Sunday

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 25, 2022

Pretty stoked for the Niner game today. Denver has eclipsed Cleveland as my most hated sports town with the addition of Russell Wilson to the Broncos. For both of those cities it’s really more the fans I despise but all those years of Wilson ruining my Sunday’s at the last second has vaulted Denver to the top.

I was surprised to see Yaz has 15 home runs. His season has not felt that productive.

Go SF!

The major league career of Phil Mudrock (great name!) consisted of one inning pitched for the Cubs in April 1963. He pitched the 8th inning (trailing 4-0) in relief of Larry Jackson in a night game loss to Marichal and the Giants at Candlestick. The link to the box score is below:

    https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SFN/SFN196304190.shtml

    Mudrock’s career went as follows:

    Jim Davenport doubled
Willie Mays grounded out to SS – Davenport advanced to 3rd
Willie McCovey singled home Davenport and went to 2nd on a balk
    Orlando Cepeda grounded out
    Felipe Alou grounded out

He was 26 years old and never pitched in the majors again.
He’s still alive if Kokonuts wants to give him a call.

Some single game careers are fascinating.
This is all of them (including Moonlight Graham):

That’s amazing. Call him. I hear there are no more long-distance charges.

wow, love these old boxscores. 8 x HOF guys on field in front of 11 thou at Stick, though Brock and Santo stories well known. Mac in LF poor guy. Complete game era, Marichal specialty.

Yaz has 3 HRs on road trip and does very well at Coors.
But…he is having worse season than last year, as slugging has continued to dive from 2019 and 2020 breakout seasons, and he’s hitting .198 at home with 6 HRs.
the Giants have 11th best record in NL vs. RHP; all 7 of playoff contenders are better, due to large drop off from LHs—Belt Crawford Yaz Wade Jr. None of them hit LHP very well (add in Gonzalez here) but Yaz for instance only hits .224 vs. righties.
Supposedly Z wants him back…unless he’s planning on giants being more like Guardians, idk.

Yes to 60 minute beat down of Russell Wilson, guy who has tormented Niners for long time.

I’ll believe it when I see it. I don’t think Denver is very good, but they do have a pretty good defense. And the RW factor.

This is the kind of team we commit stupid defensive penalties against. I can already see Greenlaw hitting Wilson late. on 3rd and 12.

I mean, I think we are a better team, but Denver on the road is always weird, and Shanahan’s MO is to keep games close and figure out interesting ways to shut down his own offense in the 2nd half.

*figure out interesting ways to shut down his offense in the 2nd half—-LMAO. So true. Still think we handle them today by at least 7

It didn’t work. Maybe something about being inside the US.

Mahomes hits Kelce for 29 on 3rd down, then 3 yd TD in end zone.
Um maybe JG is able to rekindle Kittle connection now that both are back on the field.

Oh shoot just read in Chron the obit for singer Mabel John at 92. She had hit with “Your Good thing is about to end” and was part of Ray Charles backup singers after beginning her career in gospel and Motown. She was from same family as little Willie John.
Early ’70s I listened to non commercial station in Los Gatos, part of same (brief) empire of entrepreneur who started poor people’s radio KPOO in SF few years later. I met one of LG blues DJs, great guy from Milwaukee who had moved to SF for work, and he had station ID recorded by Mabel John he used to play every week.

Trying to go out here with a bang.

  13. unca_chuck said, on September 25, 2022 at 7:48 pm

Shamahan is fucking terrible. These plays are terrible. Shanahan throws on 1st down on that first drive. Since it worked so well, he FUCKING STOPS DOING IT. He and Harbaugh ALWAYS out-think themselves

  14. unca_chuck said, on September 25, 2022 at 8:01 pm

Between Jimmy and Shanny we are gonna lose this game.

  15. unca_chuck said, on September 25, 2022 at 8:02 pm

8 yards in the air, and he’s 5′ behind Deebo.

  16. djloo27 said, on September 25, 2022 at 8:11 pm

I saw plenty of Ward in KC.
    He’s a very average CB…

    • unca_chuck said, on September 25, 2022 at 8:34 pm

He’s a stud here compared to what we had.

  17. unca_chuck said, on September 25, 2022 at 8:13 pm

And our odds are better with this guy?

  18. unca_chuck said, on September 25, 2022 at 8:28 pm

Wow. Shanahan is so fucking terrible.

  19. unca_chuck said, on September 25, 2022 at 8:35 pm

Once again our stellar 2nd half football was a safety, 2 fumbles, a FG and a pick.

  20. mrsprtdude said, on September 25, 2022 at 10:15 pm

Fucking embarrassing. Shanny and Jimmy got a pass from the announcers too. Deebo wide open for an easy TD in 1st half. Jimmy throws a duck and Collingsworth says some bullshit about wanting to make sure he caught it. Maybe the worst game of play calling and Jimmy in this era..

  21. mrsprtdude said, on September 25, 2022 at 10:17 pm

Deebo, Aiyuk, Kittle. jsuscheck (too lazy to look it up spelling but can we use a guy we have that has some talent or only one play every 3 games!). One of those guys has to be open every play. Fuck!

  22. unca_chuck said, on September 25, 2022 at 11:07 pm

Kittle’s supposedly our stud TE but he ran 2 yard outs all night. 4 catches for 28 yards.

Where’s Danny Gray? Why the fuck are we drafting guys that never get on the field? If Gray can’t beat Jennings, then why was he drafted so high?

I’m so fucking done with this ineptitude from this front office and the lack of any response from the owner. I posted on FB last week that Eddie D would have fired Shanahan immediately after the Lance injury. If he hadn’t then, he would have after today’s performance.
