A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Where Do We Go From Here?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 27, 2022

After a day to chill I’ve softened a bit on my Jimmy G stance. He is who he is. I am not over or underwhelmed with him. I am *properlywhelmed*. We are lucky to have him as opposed to some no-name back up with no experience and no talent.

Jimmy is pretty dim and if he doesn’t get the ball out immediately the play is probably fucked. But he can do some things.

The bigger issue to me is why Deebo, Kittle and Aiyuk are never open. Why can’t the Great Genius Shanny get these guys open? And Deebo in the backfield is as played out as burnt toast. Every time he’s back there he gets the ball. Think that’s a tell to the defense?

mm if they can’t fix O line gonna be a bigger problem, but yes this is on Shanahan. Every coach has responsibility to do what best he can with what he has. Scoring 3 points in 3 quarters, often with good field position, is terrible game planning.
Kittle, idk. Yes the routes were short ones, but he wasn’t breaking tackles either. If Jennings had cleanly caught that floater G put up while he was getting crushed by untouched blitzer…G definitely missed open guys though.
I’ll give you another obvious tell–sideline screen to Deebo.
I hate this pass, because QB throws it before he can tell whether D is being blocked or not. Everyone swarms to Deebo and it gets blown up right away.

They are open. Jimmy doesn’t see them. They rarely show coverages, but this 0ne was glaring.

    • unca_chuck said, on September 27, 2022 at 7:43 am

No pressure, and Jimmy throws to double-covered Aiyuk for an incompletion underneath Deebo, who is wide open. And he’s looking right where Deebo is.

  3. willedav said, on September 27, 2022 at 7:41 am

Chron said Williams will be out at least a month. Only get one more game vs. Seachickens, so Shanahan has to figure some things out (like how to win games vs. anyone else) in hurry. Yes he beat Rams before but lost big one. So what team does he have? One that can beat them now, or not.

This could be Elimination Night, Phils win and Giants loss officially knocks them out. Surprised it’s taken this long.

Baseball Reference has playoff odds at 0.1%, so they’re still alive!

And one more thing, when Denver’s new coach decoded to go for a 65 yard FG to win a game on 4th and 4, he caught a ton of shit. Rightly so with Wilson as the QB.

But Kyle gets no shit for not taking the holding call to push Denver out of FG range late in the 2nd quarter? Those points sure helped.

What I’m talking about. Guys are open.

So, not being smart about football, I, a Niners fan, was willing to take your Jimmy G rant as properwhelming. I shared it with my son-in-law, an avid Bills fan. I can’t retract it now without looking like Soupy Sales with pie on his face. (Who’s Soupy Sales? You gotta be old enough to know. But I did include him in my Interviews with Famous Dead People. (Shameless ploy. TedSpe already ordered it.) https://amzn.to/3Ls9Y9C

A few more games like the last one and I’ll be chanting for Purty Mouth to play.

What is annoying IS the fact that Kyle and Jimmy guys have been together 6 years. Kyle turned Matty Ice into an MVP. He turned Matt Fucking Shaub into a pro bowler. He coached RG III to rookie of the year. He did all those turnarounds in 1-2 years.

Is Jimmy just fucking stupid? Seeing him laughing and gabbing as he walked off the field after the loss was pretty galling, but whatevs.

An interview with Michael Scott (Twinfan) would be awesome…

If this Rams game goes south, with yet another offensive implosion, Jed will have to address the media.

    • Flavor said, on September 27, 2022 at 11:54 am

Jed is a bitch. He’s afraid of answering questions and, frankly, I could care less what he thinks.

      • Winder said, on September 27, 2022 at 12:33 pm

        Lol.

    • willedav said, on September 27, 2022 at 11:56 am

Nah, Jed needs to stay out of it–too early to blow everything up and start firing people. 2021 SF was 3-5 and turned it around; G has only had 2 games (after total zilch of preseason on outer field), Kittle only 1, behind iffy O line that just got worse and without #1 running back. Let football people try and figure things out.
Look around NFL–lot of teams (and their vaunted QBs) not playing up to potential…doesn’t mean Head Coaches are getting fired in October.

      • Winder said, on September 27, 2022 at 12:38 pm

You make some good points. I just don’t see us turning it around like last year. It is too early to start firing and since I don’t have season tix any longer I am not invested financially but the fans that are I can understand. I will always love the team I just can’t stand watching them right now.

  12. alleykat69 said, on September 27, 2022 at 12:29 pm

49ers defense is elite only giving up 37 points (12 avg that’s even with Jimmy chipping in with 2) thus far)top 2are 3 in all of football. Which puts it totally on Shanahan and the offense scoring a feeble 47 points 15.3 avg just isn’t going to cut it. Yet in the division they are +33 over the Rams&Seahawks who have given up 70 points and Arizona at 87!

It’s a weird start in the NFC West with only the Rams above .500 at 2-1 the rest 1-2 in what use to be the strongest division in the NFC is now one of the weakest, with NFC East, NFC North stronger and more exciting to watch and even Jaguars at 2-1 leading their division too..

  13. unca_chuck said, on September 27, 2022 at 12:39 pm

This isn’t just about last game. It’s about killing his QB and failing in so many 2nd halfs. Over and over. The media here is so wimpy. Kyle gets a pass all the time. Like Harbaugh it is never the play calling , but always the execution. Any little push-back and he totally bitches out.

This is basically the same career arc as Harbaugh. He got fast results due to absolute ineptitude before him. They built a strong defense and these supposed offensive gurus simply played run run pass football. 5 years in and the results are slipping.

Yeah, it’s one game. Yeah the season’s young, but these guys seem to want to create controversies all around them. Harbaugh would bad-mouth the owner to his face and smirk and get testy with the media. Shamahan spends 3 first round picks on a mobile QB and then just completely throws him to the wolves. First thing he says after putting him in harm’s way? He’s a running QB. I’ll run those same plays when he comes back. THAT is the kicker. Fuck Shanahan.

Like I keep saying, if Eddie were running the team, he’s have Shanny’s head on a platter by now.

But no, we are gonna get little jed and his slow reaction time. We’ll have 2 more seasons of Kyle and his arrogant stupidity.

Partial review of Week 3 in NFL:
Joe Burrow wins for first time
Josh Allen loses for first time
Mahomes loses to Colts, who win for first time
Carr and Raiders lose again to fall to 0-3
Herbert and SD score 10 points get thrashed by Jaguars to fall to 1-2
Brady scores 12 points and loses to GB
Murray scores 12 points and Cards fall to 1-2
Not trying to excuse JG, but he had lot of company. All of above better players, and yet weren’t their best nor good enough (except for Burrow) Sunday

    • djloo27 said, on September 27, 2022 at 12:58 pm

The popular theory I hear a lot is that September games in the NFL have replaced preseason games that have been rendered pretty much meaningless in recent years.
I think there’s something to that.
The old 6 game preseason was once serious business…

      • willedav said, on September 27, 2022 at 1:22 pm

Makes perfect sense. I guess it’s $$, but not playing at all in preseason can’t be good.
Will never forget watching Chiefs thrash Raiders in preseason game at old Multnomah Stadium in Portland one night. First time I ever saw great Noland Smith and destroyed Raiders on punt and KO returns and Madden’s boys lost like 48-0. Had to be preseason 1967 I guess.

      • unca_chuck said, on September 27, 2022 at 2:54 pm

Well, back in the day it was to get back into playing shape. There’s something to be said about doing it that way. Guys didn;t seem to get hurt as much by ramping up their football activities by playing. Nowadays, the first team gets maybe 6 series all preseason. Look at Lance. He got prolly 12-14 snaps the whole preseason. Is this how you get in synch with your WRs?

What I find amazing is everyone is so quick to say Lance is a bust based on one game in a hurricane. Jimmy? Nope. He’s rusty. He had an owie. He didn’t have the playbook. Waah.

What happened the week before? Was that real? Or another Jimmy mirage? I tell ya I’m just sick of this team never living up to the vast potential it has. It isn’t easy to build a team that is this good. And Shanahan seems hell-bent on fucking up what they accomplished.

  15. willedav said, on September 27, 2022 at 1:16 pm

Bottom feeders in NL involved as potential spoilers tonight.
Phils at Cubs, Braves at 100 L Nats, Mets hosting Marlins.
Padres hosting Dogs trying to hang onto WC spot.
Brewers hosting Cards trying to get into WC with time running out.

    • willedav said, on September 27, 2022 at 4:29 pm

In Paul O’Neill bio, he raves about his time spent with Mattingly, managing out string with Marlins.

  16. willedav said, on September 27, 2022 at 2:44 pm

Allen (3 pts), Mahomes (3 pts) Murray (2 FGs for 6 pts) and Herbert (3 pts) combined for 0 TDs in second halves of each game. Brady got 1. Murray didn’t get one in first half either, nor did Brady.

  17. unca_chuck said, on September 27, 2022 at 3:14 pm

I wouldn’t be comparing Garoppolo to any of those guys. They have a bad game or 2 per season.

Jimmy is all over the place all the time.

    • willedav said, on September 27, 2022 at 4:48 pm

that’s not my point–but you can’t just ignore the results. Good players have bad games, and none of these guys could score points when they needed to. But nobody in charge of KC or Buffalo or Tampa or AZ is gonna fire their coaches and reboot to new staff and play callers after a bad game or two.
There is a long way to go, bro. You can’t just ignore the turnaround that happened last year with Shanahan and G, when Sf whipped Rams twice and got dang close to going back to SB.

  18. unca_chuck said, on September 27, 2022 at 3:17 pm

I’d take Carr over Garoppolo in a nano-second. He may make dumb decisions, but he can throw the ball over 15 yards.

We’re at the point where Shamahan has to come up with something new and different. The genius moniker does not wear well when you can’t score in the 2nd half. He seems scared shitless to do anything remotely aggressive.

The whole idea of bringing Lance was because he has a big arm. We can stretch the defense.

So, naturally he turns him into a fullback who throws occasionally, and gets him hurt.

    • willedav said, on September 27, 2022 at 4:31 pm

Talked to Raiders fan today, and he’s hated Carr for years. First 3 games haven’t changed his mind either.

    • willedav said, on September 27, 2022 at 4:35 pm

Less about the arm, it was all about the mobility. Gad, that’s all I heard here pre draft–No one wanted Mac Jones aka the Statue no matter what he had done at Bama. Guys here threatened to boycott team if Lynch drafted him. Niners had to have mobile QB, the model for success to avoid rush and wave of future. Though how anyone expects Niners QBs to have enough time to throw long is beyond me.

      • unca_chuck said, on September 27, 2022 at 6:28 pm

Well that’s in the front office. They let Tomlinson go and didn’t do much about Mack retiring. Banks is barely able and the new guys are not doing well.

  19. zumiee said, on September 27, 2022 at 6:04 pm

I’m thinking that defensive coordinators in football are probably the best coaches in all of sports. The NFL has made so many rule changes over the years to benefit the offense, and yet defensive coordinators keep coming up with ways to shut down offenses. It’s actually pretty amazing.

  20. mrsprtdude said, on September 27, 2022 at 6:28 pm

Something to remember. Jimmy had major shoulder surgery 16 weeks ago. He can spiral but NO WAY his arm strength is back to normal. Sling for 8 weeks. Rehab for another 4+. Most patients are still off work with this surgery. He’s not looking for those long shots because he knows he can’t get the ball that far.

  21. mrsprtdude said, on September 27, 2022 at 6:31 pm

Webb has stated publicly a goal is 200 innings. He is at 192 1/3. last 2 starts he was pitched 10 innings with 1 run. Kapler is an idiot. 1 more start. Likely won’t make it. Good managers take care of these things for their best players. Augh

  30. James said, on September 27, 2022 at 8:50 pm

Kapler’s handling of Rogers has been pretty smart. He knew that over a whole season, the numbers would almost certainly settle to reflect Rogers’ ability, whether he was used in “high leverage” innings or not. But in a fraught season, keeping him out of the limelight was the slightly safer bet. The criticism of Rogers has proven to be every bit as ill founded as was the handwringing over Romo.

  31. mrsprtdude said, on September 27, 2022 at 8:50 pm

Yeah, that one was a steal. JD had a nice night tonight. He, Flores, Estrada, and drama boy Doval all had good nights. Joc as well. Crawfish made a nice play deep in the hole, hit a double, and it was a tidy 2:30 game. Should been 2:15, but Doval was wild. No 104s tho. Fun night with a crowd that looked to be around 12,000.

What did we get for Casali?
