A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Boring Final Week

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 28, 2022

Not that this matters to us, but it is odd that there is only 1 divisional race remaining with a week to go in the season. I wonder how much that has to do with teams waving the white flag early on trying to win their division and just shooting for the easy to make wild card?

For the record, we still aren’t elimated from the final spot. Win out and put ALL the pressure on those in front of us! MUHUHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

Pads edge Dogs in 10 as Kimbrel walks 2 unintentionally with 2 on/2 out. They are closing in on first full season playoff spot since 2006, Bochy’s last before Giants signed him.

Cool for Unc and son to catch game. Yes, Rogers was fine once again, Doval all over the place, Webb solid. Still see lot of Longo talk, but btw Villar and Davis they have 3b covered. idk, I just don’t see Giants grabbing SS or moving Crawford or Estrada around IF. Top prospects Schmitt and Luciano likely somewhere on left side of IF by 2024 at latest. Saw suggestion they turn Estrada into LF. Would hate to see him traded away, one of few pleasant surprises.

“I don’t enjoy not playing meaningful baseball.” Joc, not involved in post season play for first time in career, quoted by Pavs. Does that rule out return to Giants of 2023?

i think it just means he’s competitive. And maybe more likely than not that he leaves. If you’re him and you’re looking at 2023 do those Giants look like they’re on the cusp of being competitive. If I’m Joc I watch what Farhan does this Winter. If he sits on his hands again I’d be out if I was Joc.

Maybe try not going nearly two months between HRs, during which time the Giants went from 39-32 to 59-60.

But then he would have been missing at the end “when they really needed him.” It would indeed have been great to have Joc hit 40 HRs as a part time player ….

Thanks, Willie, yeah, it was a nice night at the yard.

If we low-ball Joc, sure. But if we make him a decent enough offer I think he might want to stay.

Man, I ‘m fine with Crawfish. I guess. Mainly because of Luciano. Getting someone would be a ton of money for one of the few positions we seem to have covered. Keep Estrada and get a couple full time OFers. Like you said, Villar and Davis have 3rd covered, Wilbur at 1st and Longo/LaStella can hit the bricks. I REALLY don’t want to see them back.

Farhan keeps saying he wants to make the team younger. Do it.

GOt to say, Alexander looks pretty good. He’s been solid out of the pen.

DJ, how hard are the Mets gonna try to keep Nimmo?

    • djloo27 said, on September 28, 2022 at 8:58 am

I’ll ask a big Met fan that question when I see him later.
I know he’s something of a fan favorite.
A lot could depend on how their PS goes.
They might have to address deGrom and some of their other problems first…

      • Flavor said, on September 28, 2022 at 11:08 am

I love Nimmo. I’d sign him in a nano second

  5. unca_chuck said, on September 28, 2022 at 9:50 am

Cool. Nimmo looks like someone that wouldn’t be too too pricey. An under the radar guy who would be nice to get.

Florida has NEVER been a State that I wanted to visit (but I have for SCUBA diving on one trip and another for a cruise with my parents) . . . This cements it. Sheesh, this crazy fuck is video taping it.

    • alleykat69 said, on September 28, 2022 at 10:55 am

Yeah Blade Fucking crazy ass thrill seeker dude that will probably end up embedded in a Palm Tree upside down 🌴

      • blade3colorado said, on September 28, 2022 at 10:58 am

I meant to add – never live there, but you get my drift. Collier County, Florida, Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said they are dealing with some parking garages that have water going over the vehicle roofs. Storm surge is ONLY 5 feet right now and is expected to at least do 10, maybe more feet.

By the by AK, Paul is being affected by Typhoon Noru, which just devastated the Philippines. He’s fortunate though that he’s north of the main area being hit in Da Nang. Not so fortunate is my in-laws in Tuy Hoa, whom are probably flooded.

      • pawliekokonuts said, on September 28, 2022 at 5:09 pm

I don’t ever want to set foot in Texas or Florida ever again.

  7. alleykat69 said, on September 28, 2022 at 10:46 am

Zadi Morroco Mole Farhan can still pull a fast one on other organizations at times. The Davis&Szapucki fleece for Ruf looks damm good for integral player pieces for next season!
Definitely need to get a lot younger, just to make us old guys feel younger looking at younger players..

Rox suck and threw ball around again last night. Giants going 7-1 vs. them and AZ lately while all of them are playing out string is fine but doesn’t disguise 21-34 July and August, nor 9-26 record vs. LA and SD. Sure they won’t have to play Dogs and Pads as often next season but they aren’t changing divisions either.

    • unca_chuck said, on September 28, 2022 at 11:30 am

What was different was I finally saw a runner get called for running inside the baseline. Daza was like 6′ to the left of the foul line on his swinging bunt. Black didn’t even argue.

  9. unca_chuck said, on September 28, 2022 at 11:26 am

Thing is, we really aren’t that far away from hanging in with those guys. i mean look at the fucking Pads. They are still fighting for their playoff lives in this race and they went all-in yet again.

Sure, they prolly make it, but for all they did, it hasn’t been easy. One speed bump before the finish and they are out.

Soto is .244 5 HRs, 15 ribbies in 45 games.
Josh Bell is .186 3 HRs, and 12 ribbies in 46 games
    Not exactly a great ROI.

Will they wake up for the playoffs? Will they MAKE the playoffs?

I like our infield. We need a couple OFers who can play full time, a couple low level pen guys, and a starter. I’m pretty sure Rodon goes, but he could surprise us. Joc? Meh. I can see him as a platoon guy if we get 2 solid OF starters. Slater can be our RH OFer. Nimmo would be a good get. Mybe Wilbur can talk to him about how fun it is to play here.

Webb, Junis, (soft) Wood, Cornhole Cobb, and someone to fill the 2 spot fro our rotation. DeCrumbling DeScaffolding? Give him a shot to recover and play it from there.

I like Alexander out of the pen. The management is enthralled with Rogers. The Brebbia aisle has classed itself up, Young is good, Garcia is a mess, Marte is another mess, (what) Szafucki? Sure.

    • willedav said, on September 28, 2022 at 12:27 pm

um they are without Tatis Jr. who hasn’t played a minute and will likely return at some point next season. by himself he’s better than any Giant, as are Machado and Soto. That’s a nice core to fill in around.
If Pads play .500 on out they’re looking at 90 win season.

      • unca_chuck said, on September 28, 2022 at 3:22 pm

Still and all, for the talent they have they aren’t really doing as well as they should. Withor without Tatis.

During one of the recent broadcasts, they posted a graphic about the Giants being 17-2 vs. the D-Backs last season, if I’m remembering that correctly. That’s an amazing stat from last season. This season the record vs. them is about .500, or maybe a little lower than that.

  11. zumiee said, on September 28, 2022 at 4:32 pm

Joc is on a nice salary drive, but he was a dud for a big chunk of this season. But so were a lot of other Giants players, too, of course.

    • willedav said, on September 28, 2022 at 4:58 pm

Exactly. dunno why they are in on bringing back guys that are reason they sucked for 4 months without winning record.

  12. James said, on September 28, 2022 at 4:58 pm

Pederdon’s OPS was no lower than 848 for any month except July. If everyone had “disappeared” like Joc, the Giants would be in the playoffs.

    • zumiee said, on September 28, 2022 at 5:26 pm

It’s easier for athletes to perform and succeed when there’s less pressure. There’s no pressure now, and some of the players are on a nice salary drive. Good for them.

      • James said, on September 28, 2022 at 8:07 pm

Did Joctober catch the July yips after hitting 5 HRs in the playoffs the previous two years (July was the one month he was not good this year)? Very strange psychological phenomenon, hitting well in the playoffs the previous two years, but unable to perform under the crush of expectations of July baseball in San Francisco.

  13. pawliekokonuts said, on September 28, 2022 at 5:11 pm

Geez, at this point if the Giants win out I’d feel . . . . what? . . . . triumphant? I really hope they do.

  14. pawliekokonuts said, on September 28, 2022 at 5:13 pm

If all goes well, I’m going to livestream on YouTube within the next 23 hours. I’m simply going to read from my Dog-Eared Book of Dog-Eared Quotations. I’m a tad nervous. Mop my forehead, Magnus.

No doubt shot from Judge. Looks relieved. good luck Pawlie.
