A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Final Home Game In The Books

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 3, 2022

Got to catch the final 1//2 inning yesterday on the radio. Miller and Flem were joking about how the Giants needed the auto runner to finally get someone into scoring position. A walk and a couple of ground balls later, we secured the victory.

I think it was Loo who recently said something like “this year is utterly forgettable with literally no memories.” Think about it. It’s true. It’s like this season never happened.

In the comment section below, without thinking about it for more than a few seconds, list off your 1 or 2 favorite memories for this season…..

If you can’t do it say that too.

The Bart HR in the home opener. Gave me hope that the kid would be a stud and not a dud.
The rest of the season was pretty much a blur to me.

    • djloo27 said, on October 3, 2022 at 7:23 am

      😂😂😂
The rest of the season was 161 games!

      • Flavor said, on October 3, 2022 at 7:57 am

season’s not over yet, my man

      • D Locojuan said, on October 3, 2022 at 7:59 am

        Exactly.

      • djloo27 said, on October 3, 2022 at 9:08 am

        Sorry…

      • D Locojuan said, on October 3, 2022 at 9:47 am

Nothing to be sorry about, Loo.
It also seemed absurd to me that I remembered something from the first home game, but nothing else really sprang to mind from the rest of the season as a favorite memory.

Rodon striking out Bryce Harper, in home game after Harper had rejoined Phils. Rodon had thrown fastballs by him, then fooled him with breaking ball down and away he waved at.
I remember another at bat earlier in season where he had hitter down 0-2 but instead of throwing waste pitch he blew one by him at 98. It was like, “hit this, mofo.”

  3. djloo27 said, on October 3, 2022 at 7:25 am

    I tried.
    I got nuthin.

  4. Giant Head said, on October 3, 2022 at 7:44 am

The first couple of starts of the season for Rodon was the highlight. We were winning and he was looking like Cy Young caliber…then June hit.

  5. Giant Head said, on October 3, 2022 at 7:46 am

Need a strong Niner defensive night to shut down Stafford for a fantasy football win!!!

  6. Flavor said, on October 3, 2022 at 7:56 am

actually i thought of one. I forget every detail but somehow the bases got loaded with no outs and I think maybe a Crawford error contributed to it. Rodon said fuck it and struck out the next 3 hitters. That was maybe in the first 20 games of the season or so. Anyone remember that?

  7. Winder said, on October 3, 2022 at 8:08 am

How badly our defense and baserunning was.

  8. Macdog said, on October 3, 2022 at 8:43 am

The Joc 3-HR game in that crazy win over the Mets. A sweep of the Dodgers at Oracle, though don’t quite remember how they did it — probably good pitching. And finally seeing the Giants play in Pittsburgh.

  9. snarkk said, on October 3, 2022 at 9:41 am

I seem to remember a walk off HR by Thairo sometime in the summer.
And yesterday’s walk off hit by Villar.
    That’s it…

  10. Winder said, on October 3, 2022 at 9:43 am

Just saw this and thought of Zumiee

  11. snarkk said, on October 3, 2022 at 9:45 am

BTW, how is the Flap going to go out, BF.
One last day, and that’s it, gone? Like the fade out at the end of a movie?
Anybody else having angst now about this, as reality creeps closer?
Maybe we have to figure out a way to a sequel, not a replacement. Hard for me to imagine not being able to sit down and get my daily dose, or catch up on a few days of missed posts. And, at this point, it’s not even the Giants, its the daily jokes, laughs, catch ups on what life brings, and musings on life…

Or a controversial Soprano’s type ending?
I know a bunch of guys have migrated to Twitter…

  12. Flavor said, on October 3, 2022 at 10:19 am

last day of the flap will be sometime after the WS ends. As I said, i am keeping it alive as an online museum and reserve the right to fire this bitch back up if I really miss it. I hope every who isn’t on twitter starts to follow me (and others here) on twitter. Plus Chuck’s blog is alive and well.

    • blade3colorado said, on October 3, 2022 at 10:29 am

I got kicked off of Twitter months ago (3rd suspension, which is now permanent). My only hope is Trump gets a reprieve and I will appeal on that basis. lol

      • Flavor said, on October 3, 2022 at 12:23 pm

just open up another account with a different email, dawg

    • Macdog said, on October 3, 2022 at 12:46 pm

So we’ll be rooting for the World Series to go 7.

    • blade3colorado said, on October 3, 2022 at 1:16 pm

Actually, I could give 2 shits – Twitter and reading the paper about this ball we live on, pisses me off. Consequently, it’s best I stay off Flav.

      • unca_chuck said, on October 3, 2022 at 6:45 pm

Twitter is pure evil. I’ve been bounced but it is just a hotbed of utter hostility and bullshit.

Super70ssports is the only thing I read on twitter.

      • blade3colorado said, on October 3, 2022 at 7:45 pm

Agree Unca. As I alluded to, I can barely surf the web without getting angry and hostile myself. It’s a emotional blood sucker and so I try to limit my time on it, particularly social media sites.

  13. unca_chuck said, on October 3, 2022 at 11:21 am

Went to the game last Tuesday with my son before his move to Montana. Webbie pitched a 5 inning gem, Rogers pitched 2 scoreless, Crawfish had a nice defensive play and a double, Joc and JD homered, and the game was done in 2:30.

    Great night at the yard.

Ran out of gas in the Bonneville salt flats, but that’s another story.

    • snarkk said, on October 3, 2022 at 5:02 pm

Trying to emulate Craig Breedlove or Art Arfons?…

  14. willedav said, on October 3, 2022 at 11:22 am

I looked up that Dogs series sweep by Giants Mac mentioned. June 10-12 at the O, Giants beat Opie Buehler and Urias, and held LA to 4 runs in 3 games. Rodon won last one 2-0, with save by McGee. Middle game was opener started by Long.. At that point Giants were 3.5 back at 33-26.

  15. unca_chuck said, on October 3, 2022 at 12:01 pm

Fucking McGee. Talk about someone forgettable.

    • willedav said, on October 3, 2022 at 1:35 pm

Ruff homered twice in one of those games, speaking of forgettable.

    • willedav said, on October 3, 2022 at 2:26 pm

Forgettable, when you think about it, applies all too well to so many Giants that were at one time part of roster this season.

  16. pawliekokonuts said, on October 3, 2022 at 12:25 pm

    djloo,
I did some research regarding “bereft.” Yes, it can stand alone as an adjective. It need not be followed by “of,” though it often is. Same with “thankful” and “grateful.” dictionary.com gives great, and current, examples. By the way, my apologies: I should have alerted you to my attendance at the 9/18 Mets game. Maybe we could’ve connected. Man, Mets fans are feeling sour!

    • djloo27 said, on October 3, 2022 at 3:13 pm

      Thank you, Pawlie.
I shouldn’t be so lazy about looking that stuff up.
Yes Met fans are apoplectic (whatever that means).
I’m sure we’ll meet again in some strange way…

  17. willedav said, on October 3, 2022 at 4:07 pm

Pads backed in, wonder what they will do to set rotation. WC match up, with Mets I guess, would begin Friday. all games in NYC.
    Winner gets LA.

    • willedav said, on October 3, 2022 at 5:10 pm

hmmnn Phils hold tiebreaker over Pads (1 game up), so they do need Ws to hold onto 5th spot .

  18. willedav said, on October 3, 2022 at 4:23 pm

oh fyi Steph is supposed to be on the Mannings cast of the game tonight according to Chron.
    they’re unwatchable/unlistenable, but…

  19. Macdog said, on October 3, 2022 at 5:48 pm

Any time Samuel takes a handoff I can’t help but think of Unca and his rants, haha.

  20. zumiee said, on October 3, 2022 at 5:56 pm

My two favorite memories of the season are:
Bart made progress and seemed to solidify his spot as starting catcher.
The ceremony when Will Clark’s number was retired.

  21. zumiee said, on October 3, 2022 at 5:58 pm

    Worst memory of the season:
Watching Rockies pitchers walk 5 Dodgers in a row in one inning.

  22. unca_chuck said, on October 3, 2022 at 6:03 pm

    Jimmy SUCKS.

    • djloo27 said, on October 3, 2022 at 6:19 pm

      There ya go, Unca!

  23. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on October 3, 2022 at 6:33 pm

The only highlight memory for me from this season (literally, the only one I can really remember) was that 9th inning 6-run comeback against Brewers, capped by the Yaz grand salami. A truly fun inning to watch. And yeah, I share the sentiments here about the daily constancy of the Flap for, what, 14 years? It’s always been my “morning paper” for that long, the first thing I open to read over breakfast (while it’s evening in America).

  24. snarkk said, on October 3, 2022 at 6:40 pm

I will never sign up for twitter.
It’s a cesspool of liars and con artists, and a source of destablization of societies around the world. Had it and Facebook never happened, the world would be in a better place…

    • djloo27 said, on October 3, 2022 at 6:45 pm

Can I plagiarize that Snarkk, so people will think I’m intelligent?

      • djloo27 said, on October 3, 2022 at 6:46 pm

        Especially the first line…

A bunch of fat assed whores and attention starved clowns.
    I have family for that…

I larfed out loud at the family bit.

I like Twitter for sports news:

    • snarkk said, on October 3, 2022 at 7:42 pm

Boy, Giants beat writers are sure all over the team’s health.
This looks like even more of a massive bust signing than we thought…

  29. snarkk said, on October 3, 2022 at 7:39 pm

Niner defense decided they had to take scoring into their hands, with the pick 6, since Shanahan won’t call any kind of risky plays with Jimmy G at QB. Game was headed for another late loss, but looks like Niner D said we’ve seen enough.
First world defense, 3rd world QB and cowardly HC…

    • unca_chuck said, on October 3, 2022 at 8:00 pm

Shanny was a major league pussy for not going for the 4th and goal at the 1. He wimped out yet again. The D saved his bacon by scoring for him.

      • snarkk said, on October 3, 2022 at 8:09 pm

World class D and he doesn’t risk 4th and a yard to put the game away. Deebo was on fire, nobody could stop him from a yard out, just hand it to him …

  30. unca_chuck said, on October 3, 2022 at 8:33 pm

    Throw it to Deebo.

  31. snarkk said, on October 3, 2022 at 8:40 pm

    Wow.
    Longo done.
Broke his thumb yesterday on a bad hop grounder.
The dude just cannot stay in the lineup.
    Time to hang ’em up…

  32. snarkk said, on October 3, 2022 at 9:25 pm

Garcia has a .400+ batting average against. Why is he even still in the Pen so he could Just get his ass kicked yet again?…

  33. Macdog said, on October 3, 2022 at 9:25 pm

Just checked the score, it was 0-0 before Pads scored 7 runs in the bottom of the 8th. Another unmemorable moment.

  34. unca_chuck said, on October 3, 2022 at 9:38 pm

Remember Mike Curtis? Tonight’s Niner game.

  35. unca_chuck said, on October 3, 2022 at 9:47 pm

Bobby Wagner with his best hit of the night.
