A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Four Teams Who Immediately Have Their Backs Against The Wall

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 8, 2022

I must admit I enjoyed watching Scherzer gets smacked around. For no real reason I’ve never liked the Mets. And I think Showalter and all his stupid rules are pretty played out.

Another thing I enjoyed about the games yesterday (despite the lack of runs scored): every team has at least a few hitters in their line up that I get really excited to watch in the box. The Giants don’t have a single hitter I get excited to watch in the box.

Farhan has a LOT of work to do.

Z said lot of stuff yesterday, Shea in Chron and Baggs in Athletic talk about it.
Couple things of note…he said they are in market for 1 or 2 SPs and that Junis is more swingman, which tells me no Rodon.
Also that SS was not one of positions that hurt them defensively with Crawford in there. Just me but I can’t see them paying Correa (who is in middle of $35 mil a season deal) $40 mil to play 2b when they already have Estrada there. Giants have IFs in pipeline–don’t think that’s where Z might spend big.

  2. willedav said, on October 8, 2022 at 8:20 am

“It’s time for Zaidi to spend $$” thread works itself into every discussion of what Giants need to do this offseason to close talent gap and be more interesting.
    Who is realistic target?

  3. djloo27 said, on October 8, 2022 at 9:03 am

Longoria and Belt might have something left but as everyone knows they can’t stay on the field and Longoria especially shouldn’t even be a consideration. It just bothers them to buy him out for 5M and get nothing for it.
    Small market attitude…

  4. unca_chuck said, on October 8, 2022 at 9:40 am

They need OFers. Ones that are not platoonies. It sounds like we will have the Dinosaur Jr infield in Belt, Shorto, Crawfish, and LaFaila next year, so that sucks.

But i got my heart set on finding Nimmo, and Myers? Piscotti?

  5. mrsprtdude said, on October 8, 2022 at 9:41 am

How is left is Judge! I’d get Turner and ask him to play 2nd for 1 season. Pay him extra to do so. Estrada the super sub for another year, then take over full time 2nd when Turner moves back to short

Am I missing Bogaerts? I think Trea Turner is not a likely signing but Bogaerts seems a more reasonable expectation. I wanted Bell before the trade deadline. Judge will be pie in the sky but if they added Bell and Bogaerts there is a start. But then you can’t lose Rodon…

      • Winder said, on October 8, 2022 at 2:45 pm

That was only a partial list of FA players.

    • blade3colorado said, on October 8, 2022 at 11:35 am

Belt’s market value $16 million plus??? What a fucking joke. Get rid of all the bore core (Longo, Craw, and Belt) . . . Keeping any of them will only breed resentment amongst fans and cause further erosion of the good feelings from our championship years and 2021. I know ball players, actually all professional athletes like to wring every last dollar out of their career, but I wish there were more ball players like Will Clark, Buster Posey, Barry Sanders, Joe Montana, etc., that have the good sense about going out on top.

    • djloo27 said, on October 8, 2022 at 12:04 pm

Some of those market values are very debatable…

  8. Giant Head said, on October 8, 2022 at 10:22 am

I got my Astros-Pads World Series matchup bets in and had an extra Astros over Mets backup bet as well. Have a feeling on the Pads pulling off the upsets over Mets and Flodgers eventually.

  9. willedav said, on October 8, 2022 at 11:02 am

Winder, thanks. interesting list. Could Giants get deGrom (pitching today) for less years/higher AAV than Rodon? He is 34 and has made 26 starts over last 2 years.

Man Rays just dodged bullet. Relievers loaded bases with 2 BBs and HBP with none out, then got K and GIDP.

  10. blade3colorado said, on October 8, 2022 at 12:19 pm

Stand by what I said the other day. They can snag Nolen Arenado for $35 million (or better yet, the $28.5 Winder indicates above), Wilson Contreras for $16 million, Josh Bell for $18 million, and re-sign Carlos Rodon for $31 million. With all that, they’d only be at approximately $160 million for 2023. As I noted previously, this is actually cheaper than their 2022 line-up.
Likewise, the contracts for Crawford, La Stella and Wood are up in 2024, meaning they have another $45 million falling off the books. The Giants could THEN offer Shohei Ohtani $80 million a year and still be $42 million under the luxury tax. This is the road map Z should pursue for the next 2 years.

    • willedav said, on October 8, 2022 at 1:46 pm

mm interesting. If Arenado does opt out, I’d guess Giants would only be helping him renegotiate extension with Cards. Love to keep Rodon, question would be how long of a deal would he demand.
Like Flav said, lot of the guys on Winder list would help, it’s hard to know how many would really be interested in SF, and what kind of deal (years and $$) it would take.

  11. alleykat69 said, on October 8, 2022 at 12:54 pm

Nothing wrong with going after Mitch Haniger who has real good power and can play both corner outfield spots. Man I love Bogarts but would he realistically want to even platoon with Crawford both starting and DH’s possible platoons? Blade ..I would be all over getting Arenado for 3rd.Then though u have the 3 headed monster at 1st Flores,JD Davis &Villar, though extra days off occasionally would be good for Flores effectiveness, why do I unfortunately see Belt back in the mix due to needing a LH first baseman if they don’t go after Bell?

  12. Flavor said, on October 8, 2022 at 1:04 pm

I’d take any and all of the guys Winder listed. Any of those guys (besides the Giants listed) would make our team better.

  13. Flavor said, on October 8, 2022 at 1:20 pm

Gausman just made Haniger look like a woman

  15. alleykat69 said, on October 8, 2022 at 1:40 pm

Game like today’s TB/Guardians game is the perfect reason to dump that shitshow ghost runner BS.. 2 teams laying it all on the line in a scoreless playoff game now going to the 14th inning is REAL BASEBALL ⚾️

  16. unca_chuck said, on October 8, 2022 at 2:07 pm

I know it’s logistically unreasonable, but to have teams in the playoffs have no home games is lame.

Streameasted the Guardicles game just in time to see the game winning bomb.

Gausman pitching better than he did in last year’s playoff game. Ruf in starting lineup for Mets, it’s been awhile since he’s played.

  20. willedav said, on October 8, 2022 at 3:27 pm

    whoa
Carlos Santana says “Hope you’re Feeling Better”

  21. willedav said, on October 8, 2022 at 3:57 pm

really loved Abraxas, tremendous LP they recorded in SF at Heider studios. Furious guitar work from Santana, all the percussion, Greg Rolie on keyboards. I think Se Acabo my fav track though Oye Como Va never gets old. Tito Puente wrote this song for his big band long before Santana played it.

    Seattle is fighting back.

  23. unca_chuck said, on October 8, 2022 at 4:28 pm

Was Aynsley Dunbar still drumming for them at that point? Orr was it Tommy Aldridge? Both guys were great but Aynsley is is one of the best.

    • willedav said, on October 8, 2022 at 5:11 pm

Shrieve on drums, Chepito Areas on timbal and Mike Carabello on congas at that time.

  24. unca_chuck said, on October 8, 2022 at 4:29 pm

Now that I think about it, Aynsley went to journey with Gregg Rollie.

    Oooooooh. What a collision.

    • alleykat69 said, on October 8, 2022 at 4:40 pm

Yeah the original Journey band was ..Dunbar,Valory,Rollie&Schon which rocked!

      • unca_chuck said, on October 8, 2022 at 4:56 pm

Yeah those first 3 albums are outstanding. Saw them play part of Infinity without Steve Perry at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz. Neal Shon is unreal great on guitar those albums. Then he just kind of subsumed to the pop. In his words it was, “Everyone loved us but we had to eat. We weren’t making any money.”

    • Winder said, on October 8, 2022 at 6:44 pm

Dunbar played drums on John Mayall’s 2nd album a hard road and I think Mick Fleetwood took his place. Peter Green and John McVie were also in that band.

  25. unca_chuck said, on October 8, 2022 at 4:31 pm

8-1 Bluejays figuring gm 3 no problem now Mariners have tied it up 9-9 crazy.
Springer definitely messed up bad wrist, now possible concussion? He’s probably done in gm3 if it goes that far..

Just me and the doggies. Tuneage all day. Nice and loud.

Any of you guys gear heads? There’s a guy who has a youtube page called Vice Grip Garage. The guy buys abandoned cars that haven’t run in 20+ years within like 400 miles of his place, and tries to fix them well enough to drive home. Funny stuff.
