A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

More NY Failure On Horizon

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 14, 2022

Gonna be very surprised if the Yankees can pull this off. They have a very Met-sy feel to them. Of course it is Cleveland and I’ve never seen a team from that cow town that I didn’t dislike. Still, for this series, I can root for them.

Hoping to get an update from the Great San Dawg on the vibe in San Diego tonight.

Don’t remember seeing Cleveland teams play live much, but I did see old Cavs back in mid 70s at Oakland Coliseum in bright orange warmups and unis. Austin Carr (played for Notre Dame team that ended long UCLA winning streak), Bingo Smith and reserve named Fred Foster that lit them up. Bill Fitch coached then.

Pete Putila listed on B/R as farm director for Stros, and they have bunch of young stars on that team. kyle Tucker and Y Alvarez are only 25 and SS Pena is rook who hit 22 HRs. Same with pitching staff, outside of Verlander good SPs 28 and under.
The way Z rolls, player development (background of new GM) gonna be critical going forward. And does seem like it’s on right path even though Giants didn’t get much help from Sac 2022.

Was Butch Beard on that team? Loved me some Butch Beard back in the day. My older bro was fascinated by those early 70’s Cavs teams as well for some reason. I remember him coveting my Rick Roberson basketball card.

Spot on my man. Beard was in second year 71-72, Carr was a rook. Roberson and “J J” Johnny Johnson (later Sonics stalwart forward) too.
Loved Butch Beard, Louisville guards were tough, like Darrell Griffith. Won title with Warriors in 75, still alive.

Roberts going with Gonsolin tonight vs. Snell, Tyler Anderson tomorrow. Gonsolin is coming off forearm injury that saw him miss 40 days from 5 inning outing in August until pitching 2 innings vs. Rox Oct. 3. Supposedly on 75 pitch limit going in.

I have an old school brown Dave Winfield Padre jersey. I wore it to work today. A kid at our school who is a big Giants fans and knows I am as well, really let me have it this morning.
I told him to keep it down, but he just kept going on, then went around ratting me out to other students.
I respect that. I had that coming. That kid is a made man in my book.

I did like the Kardiak Kids of the Brian Sipe era. Kosar was cool as well.

Don’t forget the NHL’s short-lived Cleveland Barons, formerly the California Seals/Oakland Seals/California Golden Seals.

First Phillies home playoff game in 11 years this afternoon, they’ll be fired up in south Philly too.

Bruce Sutter has died at age 69…

    • snarkk said, on October 14, 2022 at 11:38 am

Dang. RIP to him, probably the first real “relief” guy of the most recent “modern” era.
All these guys going out that are in my general age bracket is not cool…

Wandy Peralta? Looks like he turned things around after leaving Giants for Yanks.

  9. willedav said, on October 14, 2022 at 1:32 pm

Interesting move by Boone to pinch run for Stanton. DH is now Tim Locastro, career .227 hitter with 7 HRs.

Saw one Seals game as a kid. I think it was at the Cow Palace, but i could be mixing that up with roller derby.

Were they wearing their infamous white skates?

  11. unca_chuck said, on October 14, 2022 at 1:58 pm

Shit. Cancer. That sucks. Seemed like a regular kind of guy who just loved the game.

I use to go with my buddies to see a minor league hockey team called the SF Shamrocks at the Cow Palace back in 77-78 it was a blast.Tall beers think they were PBR’s? a couple of bucks, hotdogs a buck couldn’t beat it.The team was great too, they won the Pacific conference in 78! What was really great my buddies would say watch this one enforcer named Smedsno who even got in a fight before the opening puck dropped, he was Awesome one of the main reasons to see them for us was to see that dude!
They wore killer looking jerseys white&green with a large Shamrock ☘️ on their chest real cool design, cheap entertainment back then but we all had a great time!

Cleveland pitching shut down Yanks for rest of game after Stanton HR. 4 1/3 scoreless from pen, 4 BBs (3 by one guy Karinchak) 8 Ks 4 from Judge. 15 Ks for Yanks as a team.
Clase is awesome closer really impressed.

      Judge was booed…

      • alleykat69 said, on October 14, 2022 at 3:44 pm

He won’t get booed at Oracle initially unless he goes into a slump ( unlikely)
Judge bay Area kid growing up rooting for the Giants and especially Rich Aurilla hmmm 🤔
Guess the Giants should let Richie do some negotiations with him driving the Brinks truck up to his door for starters..

  14. alleykat69 said, on October 14, 2022 at 3:59 pm

Should clarify that Judge grew up in Linden Ca Central Valley (Zumie Country?)
So not the Bay Area.Hey it’s not my money so I say 4/200 could get it done ✅

    • Giant Head said, on October 14, 2022 at 4:20 pm

I hope the Yank fans drive him to leave. But 4/200??? Nah going to be 10/400 but we have plenty of dough…

Here’s hoping for a Phillies/Guardians WS. Definitely want to see Padres eliminated by Dodgers. SD is the most loathsome team in baseball, all of that let’s copy LA spending, nothing to show for it, keep it that way. Would love to see Braves, with their regulars at every position, eliminated by an inferior Phillies team. Happy to see Dusty, with his stupid, unfunny old school schtick, lose at any stage. Cleveland over the Yankees, and just maybe they let Judge walk. Cleveland rewarded for changing their name with a WS win.

  17. willedav said, on October 14, 2022 at 5:43 pm

Judge won the slash line triple crown, leading AL in on base slugging and OPS.
He also led league in total bases runs scored, HRs and rbis. Lost the batting title by 5 pct points at .311 to Luis Arraez .316.
There is no way to replace that. Yanks might want to put little more around him.

  18. Flavor said, on October 14, 2022 at 5:52 pm

    Atmosphere in SD is incredible.

  19. Flavor said, on October 14, 2022 at 5:58 pm

Gonsolin might have the worst beard in all of sports. It’s impossible to look at.

Quickie: Craig, nutsack is fine now, thanks for asking. And Kat, sorry I’d missed your earlier Morocco Mole comparisons, too funny…

That was satisfying seeing Turner take that strike 3 after hacking at all those pitches out of the zone over 2 ABs before wising up too late.

  22. djloo27 said, on October 14, 2022 at 7:36 pm

    I say I’m rooting for Dusty but honestly couldn’t give a crap…
