A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Let This Man Win One

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 25, 2022

I am absolutely rooting for the Astros to win. Nobody deserves a ring more than Dusty Baker. The cheating scandal pissed me off at the time but that’s the funny thing about time…it fades a lot of shit away. I just can’t get worked up about it anymore. Yes, it will be displeasing to see Altuve smile and accept a ring. But Dusty is the man, man. A forever Giant who I will always love.

I like to think if Dusty was there in 2017 he would have put an immediate to that cheating shot. Of course that cheating helped to prevent a Flodger World Series championship. I’m still perturbed how the Padres choked away the last two to deny my betting victory if a Astros-Padres matchup. I got Astros in 5…

Put a stop to the at cheating shit…

Cheating? Big deal . . . Cheating has been part of the game since Ty Cobb sharpened his spikes; the Giants wetted down the 1st base area to counter Maury Wills, etc., etc. Read the first few paragraphs of this article referencing a study that emphatically says it didn’t help the Astros much, particularly during the regular season and especially on the road.

Forgot who said this (Eddie something or other), “If you’re not cheating, you’re not trying.” So fuck the Dodgers. Cry babies.

And of course the Astros won World Series Game 7 — at Dodger Stadium!

        Yep.

Think Loo is right in his 10:29 last night–no long term big $$ deals by Z this off season. look what he did last year–passed on Marte Schwarber Castellanos $80 mil+ deals to add Joc, and brought in Rodon Cobb and Junis to rotation. Bad as things went, SF wasn’t eliminated for long time.
So I can see one solid bat for OF (and maybe 1b) and more pitching to replace departing Rodon (and Junis is not part of rotation) plus DeSclafani. Top prospects roll in/Craw Wood Cobb and LaStella $$ roll out and 2024 looks more promising.

Watched another local hero show out last night for Portland. Dame still got plenty of game as Blazers dropped 135 while routing Denver, including 80 in second half. 31 for Dame 29 more for running mate Anfernee Simons who hit 6 3s by himself in 3rd quarter and 20 more for solid off season add Jerami Grant. Held Jokic to triple single.
Lillard really is fun to watch–explosive off dribble can finish inside, with Steph like range and quick release.

The Kings start the season 0-3, but sheesh, they had to play Portland, Clippers, and the Warriors.

Yes, fav of great SanDawg last time at O 2019.

Sorry, Flav. But seeing as you like the Dead, you might like this. I had never heard this before and it is flat amazing.

I’m all in for Dusty, as I’ve said often before.
IMO he belongs in the HOF (though it is a joke now), even without a manager’s ring.
This WS win would cement it. He’s been a winning manager every team he’s managed. Career win % as a manager well above Bochy…

Pretty strong earthquake here in San Jose. 5.1 said Chron. Everyone OK where I am. Dirt Alley Flav—guys have any damage to plaster etc.?

    • Flavor said, on October 25, 2022 at 3:23 pm

Haven’t been home yet but I was in Palo Alto when it hit and barely felt it

  9. zumiee said, on October 25, 2022 at 3:59 pm

I don’t know….I think I’ve been more negative on Dusty’s time with the Giants ever since he brought his 2 year old son into the dugout when the Giants were trying to win a World Series.

On a side note, I really don’t like when players bring their children into a postgame press conference. The media are there to do a job, get some quotes, and here’s some little kid causing distraction. It’s not fair to the media. Probably no one cares, but still….

From what I read this one was on Calaveras Fault. The big one Oct 17 1989 was on San Andreas fault. Apparently no one hurt/no damage reported in this one. Pretty good jolt here with 3.1 aftershock few minutes later, nothing since.

Didn’t feeel a thing here in the Creek. The Napa one was a huge jolt.

“Judge is at the top of the Giants list and they won’t be underbid,” the person said. “If they miss out, it won’t be because of money.”

The person added that the Giants planned to entice Judge further by signing at least two-high priced free agents.

“The Giants are not going to stop with Judge,” the person said. “They have so much money freed up.”

The Giants were a .500 team and missed the playoffs this year, finishing third in the NL West behind the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres. They believe adding Judge can get them back to the contender they were in 2021, when they won an MLB-high 107 games and made it to the NLCS, the person added.

“They need a draw with the Dodgers and Padres in their division spending big money on big names,” the person said. “I know the Giants also are feeling pressure with the Warriors’ basketball team doing so well and spending big in the same market.”

. . . Who is this “person?” So, in summary – Giants will spend upwards of $400 million for Judge; They won’t be outbid by any other team; Giants will also sign two more high priced free agents; Giants are doing this because the Bums and Padres are spending big money in the division; and, particularly “. . . are feeling pressure with the Warriors basketball team doing so well and spending big in the same market.”

Me? Bullshit on all of this.

Maybe MacDog can speak to the credibility of nj.com?

Everything here says it isn’t Z’s MO, particularly the part about being in a bidding war. Sheesh, after what happened to the Dodgers and Padres spending a gazillion dollars trying to buy a championship, I really think Z wont do anything like this. Winning playoffs and the World Series is NOT about the best team (regular season record) on the field . . . but the team having the hottest hand.

    • djloo27 said, on October 25, 2022 at 6:51 pm

I’ll tell you this – Judge jerseys at $300 a pop would outsell Panda hats by about 10 to 1…

        True (cool name too).

Jock Landale in there at C for Suns. Had nice career at St. . Mary’s. Another one of Coach Bennett Aussie pipeline.

Yeah, not really Z’s way to do what that article says. But the team has gone “all in” before, though not at the scale we’re talking about with Judge. During the offseason before the ’02 season, I remember discussions on the Splash when the Giants had to decide about re-signing both Bonds and Schmidt, and most posters said there was no way they could do both. I strongly felt they would, plus I voiced that they would also add another missing piece to put them over the top. They did re-sign both and went out and got Reggie Sanders, and that became a World Series team. So.. it’s not completely outside Baer’s comfort zone. I don’t know about Z. Looks like he’s more apt to wait for the kids he drafted. One thing’s for sure: to get Judge, as that article implied, he would have to demonstrate commitment by adding some other top players too. As for Judge: he kinda sucked in the postseason, and that has become my measurement of a player’s true value. I blame MadBum for that….

    • Flavor said, on October 25, 2022 at 7:45 pm

Watching Judge this post season, man, it was a good reminder for why we don’t need to spend 400 million on a single player. I haven’t checked his post season batting stats but does he have some *Kershaw in him?

      • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on October 25, 2022 at 7:55 pm

Agree. Houston is good, but that whole Yankee lineup, so *awesome* all year, just sucked. The pride and joy of a team is winning the post-season, not the regular season. All those Braves division wins meant very little with one WS win. And Kershaw et all in LA. Build a team just good enough to get to the post-season with a bunch of players that perform well on that stage. Hello Giants 2010 and 2012. Phils are showing how that’s done (though Houston still might be too good).

Warms my heart to see baseball in VN. One of my former students is very involved with recruiting young players. Damn, nice swing, up the middle, base hit! He’s fast as hell too. Sign him up, he’d be very cheap….

I can just imagine idiot Sterling:

        Be proud you weren’t a creep…

    • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on October 25, 2022 at 9:58 pm

Yeah, definitely not a creep. Too much respect for these kids. But I must admit, I did have a dream for awhile there, getting to know so many lovely students and also getting to know so many lovely bar girls. I wanted to open up adjacent businesses: Bar Girl School, so the bar girls could improve their English, and right next door, School Girl Bar, so the students could learn hospitality and make some money. Alas….
