A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Phillies Take Game 1

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 29, 2022

Dusty at the helm as his team blows a big lead in a World Series game….hmmmm where I heard this tale told before?

I wonder if, at some point, we stop talking about it being bad luck for Dusty?

The GREAT Richard Dreyfuss turns 75 today. If you haven’t watched Let it Ride before and you want a nice pick me up, I highly rec’d it. Made in the 80’s it still holds up remarkably well today…..

That albatross just tightened around Dusty’s neck…classic Dusty. When Verlander hangs a first pitch change-up to Bohm with two outs after the Phillies just scored their first run to drive in two more, Dusty should have been sprinting out there for the hook…Game 1 week of rest essentially, bullpen could have gone 15 innings. Of course if that bloop falls in bottom 9th the walk off a Game 1 winner.

If you follow the twitter thread, great story about El Duque Hernandez, Livan’s brother. Had tremendous success in post season, and even played with 2005 White Sox. Juan Uribe was on that team…have to look up transactions but Sox eventually let him go and Sabes signed him.
Also in that thread, Janice Hough tweets “There is only one Madison Bumgarner.” well said

Janice was a HUGE letter to the editor writer back in the day. She’s from Palo Alto.

yeah good to see she is still rolling. Uribe had been on downward slide with Sox for about 4 years, from high of .800 OPS to .712 to falling under .700 3 straight years. Then he comes to SF and rakes, whacking HRs and .824 OPS in 2009 and career high HRs and rbis (24/85) 2010.

Giants would’ve had a shot in Game 7 with El Duque.
Unfortunately, we had his heartless brother Fat Livvy…

The White Sox team Uribe got ring from in 2005 went 11-1 in post season that included sweeping Houston 4-0 in WS. Beside Uribe, our boy the Gamer was on that team and A J Pierzinski, Jermaine Dye and aforementioned El Duque. Managed by Ozzie Guillen to 99 regular season Ws.

      Don’t forget Aaron Rowand.

AKA the Gamer…can’t remember who gave him that nickname; K n K loved the guy too. So glad they finally let him go 2011.
So many hilarious nicknames for players over the years here and you’re not gonna get that anywhere else. I think Kat had “Win one for the Groper” for Chad Gaudin iirc.

We had a shot in game 7 despite Hernandez. SF shut out for last 8 innings. It was especially painful watching in person:(
Re bad luck for Dusty..Philly gets a ton of credit but the 2 out 2 strike hit vs Verlander in the 4th the hitter off balance lunged out at a pitch low and away and flipped it to right. He misses as he would 90+ % of the time and the innings over and it’s still 5-0. . The catch in the 9th. Also kinda bad luck.
With no dog in the fight it was a fun game to watch!

Yesterday Loo posted a linked to an article whose headline was about the “no Blacks in the WS this year” issue, but most of the article was actually about “does Dusty need to win a WS to be elected to the HOF”. Interesting quote from Dusty, saying “Most of my life, I haven’t gotten what I deserve, so I don’t expect the Hall of Fame.” Not completely clear to me if he’s humbly saying that he never deserved any of the good things he’s gotten in his life, or the opposite, that with all the good things he got, he deserved so much more…

these fox announcers are so lame. Dinner reservations? Just totally boring on every level.

Can’t believe I’m saying this, but I miss Buck. As for Smoltz, holy hell is he boring as fuck.

Mac, great call on the Nick Mason show. Totally amazing. He’s got an incredible band. Just crazy stuff. Love the Fox Theater in Oakland too. Great sound. Had a blast. Most excellent.

Say Chuck I heard shrooms are legal to buy in Oakland, is that where you purchased them?

    • unca_chuck said, on October 29, 2022 at 8:57 pm

Friend of mine is a teacher. He got these shroom pills from an ex-student of his. Real light dose. I think like 1/2 a gram’s worth? He too 2 i took 1. Didn’t trip but I smiled most of the night.

Was watching Warriors game instead of Series. Hornets (without LaMelo) played them tough. Steph had the ball in his hands 1 on 1 iso twice in last minute of regulation and couldn’t score. game went into OT and they lost.
