A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Houston, Oh My!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on November 3, 2022

A Co-No is just not the same thing to me but still fun to watch. All of a sudden, Houston is back in the drivers seat. Despite his struggles in the WS I will take Verlander 10/10 times over Syndy and a bunch of bullpen guys.

Critical game for both teams.

Let’s roll.

Must win for Phillies. I think Stros have the advantage because of their pitching even with Verlander’s ws struggles.

And even if the Astros lose today having Valdez and then last night’s hero Javier who should be plenty rested for a potential Game 7 while no way Nola pitches a Game 7 is a huge huge advantage…

Good for the Stros, no hitting a team is a great answer to getting your ass kicked the night before.

hmmnn good pitching wins….Hey even if Z does not do anything splashy this off season Giants could still be relatively successful next year as long as he can get one decent SP to replace Rodon and fill in around pen. Wouldn’t be boring to see more prospects beginning come to MLB level, and they’d be better prepared to get after it in 2024 and beyond.

Good pitching certainly helps and they can use another starter are 2 plus BP arms that struggled, but it’s the “BATS” that need the upgrade more cause of age and dwindling power numbers..

interesting take from Keith Law who ranks Judge 4th on his list of best 50 available FA’s this off season. Says tall hitters age poorly. He actually makes a good point AGAINST signing this guy to 400 Large.

    • Macdog said, on November 3, 2022 at 7:50 am

      Who are his top three?

      • Flavor said, on November 3, 2022 at 8:53 am

from my memory it was Rodon, Turner and I think Dansby Swanson

  6. willedav said, on November 3, 2022 at 8:40 am

well, Brisbee in Athletic has column on why/why not Verlander would be good get for Giants.
Both these guys going tonight have lot going as to last impression before they hit FA market. Good question would be why Verlander would leave Stros to come to SF, who are unlikely to be real post season factor.

Flashbacks of Randy Johnson and Steve Carlton…
    🙁🙄😔

    • alleykat69 said, on November 3, 2022 at 11:28 am

Watching Steve Carlton in his prime was like watching a masterpiece being painted though I never have lol.
His 1972 season was simply incredible 27-10 ERA 1.97 346 IP 310 K’s 41 starts he was just a terminator machine every 5th day. That shit ass Phillies team only won 59 games that year and he had 27 that’s just about half!! Won the CY that year and well deserved, even if a losing team player is not usually going to be considered back then..

The other 3 SP combined for 10 wins! while losing 39 games..
      Ken Reynolds 4-14
      Bill Champion ( not) 2-15
      Woodie Fryman 4-10
      Yikes 😱

Good stuff AK . . . Thank you.

    • blade3colorado said, on November 3, 2022 at 1:43 pm

Loo, I was at the game (near the Giants side of the backstop) when Randy swung a bat and injured his rotator cuff . . . Could hear him scream clearly. lol

Oh shoot. Ray Guy dead at 72, Raiders HOF punter won 3 SBs with them. First punter ever drafted in first round.

    • blade3colorado said, on November 3, 2022 at 11:12 am

Besides Wershing, Guy was the “guy” in my favorite kickers.

      • alleykat69 said, on November 3, 2022 at 11:49 am

        Yeah I’m with you Blade..
Sad about hearing of Ray Guy’s death(actually Willied breaking the story here for me)
Man I use to watch him just boom punts up to the stadium roof with distance and hang time I had never imagined e hosted he was so damm good and a major weapon of changing field position! RIP Ray the greatest punter of alltime!

And for that other Ray..Wershing he was pretty damm clutch I always had confidence in him.
What I liked about him was he never looked up at the goal posts only looked at the hash marks and would just say, any kick between the hashes is good enough! Not like all these corny kickers today raising their right arm and pointing between the post praying it will work..

  9. blade3colorado said, on November 3, 2022 at 11:13 am

Please – no Verlander. Not certain, but has this guy ever won a WS game?

    • willedav said, on November 3, 2022 at 12:04 pm

Nah 0-6. But in 25 combined starts ALDS ALCS ERAs are 3.08 and 3.01.
Idea would be for Z go give him Rodon like deal, $25 mil with opt out. Rodon worked out perfect, and it seems like this is how Z likes to roll.

I totally agree. However the guy that ran the study also works for the company that makes it. People will realize that micro-doses are very effective with conditions like depression. And should be considered safe. I have never had the synthesized stuff so I might just be projecting here.

Was fun to watch Cavs knock off Celts last night in OT, helped along by return of Darius Garland whose Dad Winston played 3 years for Warriors.
And now tonight Mr. Bol Bol is starting for Magic. First look at Banchero off to fast start.

  13. Macdog said, on November 3, 2022 at 5:19 pm

That didn’t take long tor Verlander.

  14. alleykat69 said, on November 3, 2022 at 6:52 pm

Sure would of been great to have Jeremy Peña taking over at SS for the Giants. This kid has Superstar written all over him..

  15. djloo27 said, on November 3, 2022 at 7:30 pm

Heyman has the Giants in on almost everyone.
I think this guy just says and prints the obvious most of the time.

Who besides their fans and gamblers gives a shit about this WS or most other WS?
Even Dusty doesn’t do it for me…

  16. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on November 3, 2022 at 8:02 pm

That guy forecasts a bunch of 7- to 9-year deals for the likes of Turner, Correa, Judge, others. Really? Are teams still doing that? Can’t see our San Francisco Giants doing that… as much as I’d love to have Correa and Turner…

    • djloo27 said, on November 3, 2022 at 8:33 pm

Can’t see the Giants signing a middle IF for big bucks.
      Not this year anyway…

  17. unca_chuck said, on November 3, 2022 at 8:52 pm

Nope. Pretty good game going on.

Get to unload a 55′ semi tomorrow. The high will be 28 degrees. Starting to feel like Stix. Funny, i love the cold.

    Woo Hoo!

  18. unca_chuck said, on November 3, 2022 at 8:59 pm

    Wow.

  19. djloo27 said, on November 3, 2022 at 9:02 pm

    JT Snow makes that play…

  20. unca_chuck said, on November 3, 2022 at 9:05 pm

Woooooooooo! 3-2 and going home. Dusty may well do this.

  21. Locojuan said, on November 3, 2022 at 9:08 pm

I actually enjoyed watching that game. I did switch over to the Daily Show for a bit but saw most of the game.

    • willedav said, on November 4, 2022 at 4:45 am

yeah. Helluva grab by CF. If Phils 1b had come up with Alvarez ball cleanly instead of falling down, Altuve would have held at 3b, right?

      • willedav said, on November 4, 2022 at 5:13 am

Or was he going on contact?

      • Locojuan said, on November 4, 2022 at 6:37 am

Sorry, I didn’t see them score that run.
Also, a nice snag by Mancini after coming off the bench.

      • Macdog said, on November 4, 2022 at 7:23 am

        I think he would’ve held at 3B.

  22. willedav said, on November 4, 2022 at 4:46 am

    Verlander gets his W.

  23. willedav said, on November 4, 2022 at 12:01 pm

    Britney Eurton dressed to kill.
Hat is bit much but still.
