A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Shanny Sucks

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on November 14, 2022

Excited about the win but I’m just about done with Shanny. A supposed offensive genius, he still can’t get anyone open. He still runs the same boring things that defenses laugh at and see coming. And if he does get something to work he inexplicably goes away from it. CMC, Kittle, Deebo, Aiyuk….and then it’s Jennings who’s getting targets. LOL.

I dunno man, Kyle just can’t do this at the level we need him to do it at…….

Even my high schooler watching the game with me started bemoaning the obviousness of the play calling. If Deebo is in the backfield everyone know he is getting the ball. My kid also said late in the last drive why they don’t go to a hurry up 2 minute offense and then Collinsworth chimes in with the same comment. Shanahan needs a course in Bill Walsh 1.0.

W is a W. Defense had great second half and did what they needed to do. What little I saw in second half JG hit Kittle on 3rd and 12, got out of pocket and threw great pass to McCloud and then Aiyuk (who earlier dropped TD pass) near goal line.
It wasn’t 42-14 but good enough. Take it and move on. Mitchell looked good too.

Not a lot of sympathy for hated rival Fresno State guys on my part, but doubt Davante Adams and Derek Carr too happy with how things going for Vegas right now. What an epic fail.

AZ and Seachickens totally beatable and Division there for taking, one game at a time. Niners fans need to stop comparing everything they do now with Walsh era–that was historic feat with coaches/players no one on any team likely to ever match.

The Montreal Canadiens haven’t won the Stanley Cup in 30 years.
      That is insane…

      • blade3colorado said, on November 14, 2022 at 9:00 am

56 years for our beloved Giants. Cubs I think almost a 100 (not certain)???

      • djloo27 said, on November 14, 2022 at 9:21 am

But the Canadiens owned the damn thing.
They would just loan it out here and there…

Ahh, I see your point now. Sorry.

      • willedav said, on November 14, 2022 at 11:12 am

Ha, I loved those teams Loo. I guess everyone else in O 6 hated them like everybody who lost to Yanks. Jacques Lemaire won 8 Cups as player 1968-79 then 1 with Devils as coach.

  4. Winder said, on November 14, 2022 at 9:56 am

Totally agree with what flavor said in this post. Shanny has been doing the same thing for years and teams know it. If it wasn’t for our strong defense we wouldn’t be winning games. We have so many weapons on offense we should be pounding other teams. Jimmy had a pretty decent game last night and that pass to Ray-Ray was a thing of beauty. The whole team should be embarrased about that last goal line stand total bullshit and everyone knew it was coming.

  5. Flavor said, on November 14, 2022 at 11:31 am

there was a play in the 3rd Q right before the Gould fg. They get to the line and Jimmy can clearly see there are 9 dudes in the box. Still he doesn’t audible he just hands it off the CMC who gets predictably stuffed. That’s just stupid man, why run a play you know isn’t going to work?

    • Winder said, on November 14, 2022 at 11:59 am

There were a few plays like that last night. In our first drive into the red zone McCaffrey up the middle and there were 3 defenders just waiting for him. I don’t get the reasoning in doing that when everyone knows what’s coming. We waste a lot of points trying to run up the middle when we are a few yards from the goal line. We are a strong enough team to win some games and get into the playoffs but we will never win the big one playing like we do.

    • unca_chuck said, on November 14, 2022 at 11:52 pm

Which of the 3 field goals?

yes, i know. Part of the problem.

As regular season NBA games go, it was a big win for the Kings to defeat the Warriors last night. The Kings are trying to show they are relatively legit this season, and can snag a bottom playoff spot. A nice confidence-builder for the Kings last night. But the key for the Kings is to bring a competitive level of play on a consistent basis.

    • Flavor said, on November 14, 2022 at 12:07 pm

I remember the days when I used to root for that.

      • zumiee said, on November 14, 2022 at 12:18 pm

The Kings will always have a devoted fanbase, because being the only major league team in the Central Valley, but, yeah, not having to wait 20 years for a playoff spot would be nice.

    • willedav said, on November 14, 2022 at 1:37 pm

Warriors erased deficit with a 13-2 run, the Kings got them right back with 13-4 game ending run. I think GS scored 4 points in last 3-4 minutes. Sabonis was best player on the floor bar none. Murray Huerter and Fox made plays too. Good for Coach Brown…lot of Warriors fans unhappy with their near league low defense, and attribute degree of that to him leaving.

  7. unca_chuck said, on November 14, 2022 at 1:27 pm

    I’ll just drop this in . . . .

The game? Infuriating at best. Fucking Shamahan is clueless. There was a woman behind us who said her husband, based on formation, could call what plays were gonna happen. My friend John (pictured below) said “talk to him (me)’ and i proceeded to rattle off 6 plays in a row, including where the ball would go on the 3 passes. They were the early passes to Aiyuk.

    Oh and this happened.

“Good for Coach Brown…lot of Warriors fans unhappy with their near league low defense, and attribute degree of that to him leaving.”

I was kind of wary of yet another headcoaching change for the Kings, but I’ve been impressed with Brown. He can be seen in camera shots doing a lot of teaching of the Kings players on the sideline during timeouts, going up to individual players, and trying to get them to correct mistakes. He’s definitely the guy in charge, and the Kings are all in on his leadership.

  12. zumiee said, on November 14, 2022 at 2:37 pm

“Sabonis was best player on the floor”

He started the season being much more of a passer, and he’s a very good passer; but clearly Coach Brown has made it clear to him that the Kings need him to be a solid scorer, too. He gives them a good post-up threat, but is also a good shooter in the midrange game, and made 1 or 2 threes last night. His shooting form is very fundamentally sound. And his footwork around the basket is above average, IMO.
And he had one of his better rebounding games last night.

    • unca_chuck said, on November 14, 2022 at 2:48 pm

Everyone does against the Warriors. The Warriors are in deep shit if Wiseman and Kuminga continue to be ghosts on defense.

Poole likely goes off tonight without Thompson on the floor. Kerr;’s biggest adjustment coming up is likely Poole taking Klay’s spot in the starting lineup.

      • willedav said, on November 14, 2022 at 3:41 pm

yeah I’d do that now. Let Klay be more of old school 6th man and come off bench firing away in short spurts like Vinnie the Microwave or Lou Williams. DeVincenzo can pass and cover for him defensively. But yeah bench guys have had problem showing much value, like last night when King blitzed them 38-23 in 2nd quarter. Too many turnovers fouls bad D.
Otto Porter Jr. seems guy they haven’t been able to replace, for defensive rebounding and perimeter shooting at 4 spot.
Curry says he’s playing tonight on back to back.

    • willedav said, on November 14, 2022 at 4:01 pm

Love high post offense Sac runs out of the elbow and Sabonis is great at it, as passer screener and shooter. He made GS pay for going small by crashing offensive boards with Looney out Green at C and Anthony Lamb in there for more shooting–great clip from Anthony Slater in Athletic shows Sabonis at top of key as Kings put up outside shot and he goes right past both Green and Lamb (unattended yikes) for inside rebound and put back.

  13. zumiee said, on November 14, 2022 at 2:38 pm

  14. unca_chuck said, on November 14, 2022 at 2:45 pm

It’s kinda funny, but 90% of the jerseys you see these days are 85 and 97. From old guys to little kids, those are the ones.

I was just happy a couple of those 97s were BY.

Re: “infuriating at best”…Um, not picking on Unc, as passionate and knowledgeable as rest of those here who comment on Niners, but the game had to be most infuriating for Chargers fans, no? First drive Herbert goes right down the field in 3 minutes, capitalizing on mistakes in secondary and it’s 7-0 LAC. After that, especially when they shut them out in second half, Niners D stifled them for most part.

    • Macdog said, on November 14, 2022 at 4:10 pm

It was certainly infuriating if you had Herbert in fantasy.

      • willedav said, on November 14, 2022 at 6:41 pm

        lulz

  17. unca_chuck said, on November 14, 2022 at 4:27 pm

The Niners once again had the ball in the red zone 5 times and got 2 TDs. This was shaping up to be just like the KC game where the Niners couldn’t score in the red zone and the defense eventually wore down and they lost.

Ryans did what he did in the Ram game and relied on the base D to get pressure early, and when it wasn’t working, he started blitzing more.

The D pitched a shutout in the 2nd half, and the O got 9 points. Wow. There’s your ofensive genius. Sure, Aiyuk dropped a TD pass. But that should have been the 1st down play. Not the 3rd down play. Fucking Gould missing the XP was ludicrous. I really thought we were gonna lose by 1 after that. But the pressure really got to Herbert as it was relentless in the 2nd half. And Hufanga had the game-sealing pick.

My whole point here has been pretty much the same for the whole season. We are supposed to be this offensive juggernaut. We have ALL these weapons and we don’t score near enough. 18th in scoring average per game sucks. Every game we are leaning on the defense over and over to make stops and get the ball back to the offense.

The offense needs to pull its weight more.

I actually like having him back, I can see him exclusively as the LH DH player maybe a few starts in LF , but now with the shift banded his production should be even better!

If anything the shift is going to hurt contact pitchers imo who are not overpowering where a lot more of balls will now be hits allowing more production in baseball..

Great Picture Chuck! Shanny has lost me. I can totally see how anyone with football knowledge could predict their plays. My brother and I do it too! Honestly if you keep track, they run about 10 plays. They are all the same. We used to be critical of the Giants beat writers? Where is the Niner writers? Has anyone veer put Shanny on the spot?

I know there is only 3-4 cities with better sports teams than SF lately but kerr / meyers team will need some critique eventually. Did the 3 lottery picks not develop at all because of kerr, or did they draft players that were not as good as they thought they were??
