A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Niners And A Possible Outfielder Target

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on November 21, 2022

Pretty excited for the Niner game tonight. We should be fine but AZ always seems to play tougher than they look and who knows what can happen at that altitude? Hope everyone stays hydrated.

Giants are interested in Mitch Haniger which is fine with me I guess. Although this line at mlbtraderumors was more than a little concerning….

“Due to a ruptured testicle and a torn adductor muscle, Haniger played in just 63 games in 2019”

Ouch.

Those with testicle issues should stay in Seattle…Flodgers going to go big on Judge as well. Seeing him in those colors would be demoralizing. But they have to sign a SS and will need someone at third. Plus they need likely at least one maybe two starters if they don’t bring Tyler Anderson back. I could see him back with us as well as a Farhan type of player and deal.

    he’s not wrong

IIRC, Zaidi’s “plan B” after losing out on Harper was pretty much no plan at all.

    • Giant Head said, on November 21, 2022 at 6:09 am

That does seem to be the playbook…

    • willedav said, on November 21, 2022 at 7:03 am

Yes he is wrong and Krueger is a doofus. Judge is not coming to Giants and fans need to accept this. As Keith Law said there is significant enough long term health risk to avoid 7-8 year megabucks deal it would take to get him.
Haniger could easily be an .800 OPS hitter in 15-20 HR range, definite improvement over incumbents, along with being plus defender and pay scale would allow them to fill in elsewhere and add pitching.

      • Winder said, on November 21, 2022 at 9:14 am

Agree, it’s all about Haniger’s health. The big money should go to pitching unless a deal comes by that we just can’t refuse.

For shit and giggles, I appealed my Twitter life time suspension . . . Pointing out they lifted the suspensions of the unrepentant former President and the racist Ye (Kanye West). lqtm

lulz. Given whom Elon has already reinstated, hard to see how bar can get much lower.
That was one of Groucho Marx’s old lines–I wouldn’t join any club that would let me in first place.

So far this year the Giants are estimated to be about $95 mil under the cap. Only Disco and Wilber are signed past this year, so SF has a blank canvas and pretty much a blank check to build. About the only guys from the Farm that I think could help any time soon are Harrison and maybe Schmitt. Time to drop the hammer and plan a team that isn’t just made up of one year reclamation projects.

    • Locojuan said, on November 21, 2022 at 8:07 am

Webb is arb eligible, so maybe the Giants sign him to a long-term contract. Bart and Doval aren’t eligible until 2025 so we’ve got that going for us.

41 for Klay last night, looked great. And still GS had to strain to beat young rebuilding 3 win Rockets for first road W. see if he can build off this and have good shot selection etc., and Warriors can play better defensively. Team meeting where Dray led room in airing some things out does seem to have had good results and better play overall. Long season!

    • unca_chuck said, on November 21, 2022 at 8:15 am

I’m sure some of this is the hangover from so many playoff runs and all the offseason travel.

Plus this IS a long season and the idea is that they can turn on the intensity down the road.

  6. unca_chuck said, on November 21, 2022 at 8:13 am

Haniger and Nimmo won’t be too much. Even if a rising tide raises all boats. Throw in Bell and we are much better. Just get something done.

  7. Winder said, on November 21, 2022 at 9:17 am

The Niners are 3-7 against AZ in the last 5 years. They have our number and who really expects Shanny to change his game plan.

    • Flavor said, on November 21, 2022 at 9:56 am

i know but i still think we’re gonna handle them easily today.

      • Winder said, on November 21, 2022 at 11:16 am

I think we should beat em too.

  8. unca_chuck said, on November 21, 2022 at 11:22 am

We were fairly depleted last year for that AZ game. They killed us on screen and sweeps. We have Greenlaw and Al-Shaair back so that makes a huge difference. All about the line. Get pressure, protect Jimmy and we should put one together that is relatively easy.

Against Kliff Klavin, we started out 2-1 and have gone 1-2 since.

Larry Krueger, the guy fired twice by KNBR, is apparently broadcasting out of his own basement now.

    • Flavor said, on November 21, 2022 at 12:54 pm

2nd time he got fired was just because Cumulus was trying to cut costs, he got swept up in that.

TCU Horned Frogs are ranked #4 in college football by AP. interesting that btw them and next highest ranked team from Texas, #24 ranked Longhorns, are no fewer than six teams from Pac 12,
While in mens b-ball state of Texas has 3 in top 7–#2 Houston #4 Texas and #7 Baylor. Watching #21 Texas Tech tied up at half vs. #10 Creighton in Maui Jim tourney.

    • willedav said, on November 21, 2022 at 12:26 pm

Not trying to hex them, but highest ranked team in California is #17 San Diego State, facing Ohio St. later tonight in Maui as well.

      • unca_chuck said, on November 21, 2022 at 3:45 pm

The best NBA team in CA is the Sacto Kings . . .

  11. zumiee said, on November 21, 2022 at 2:36 pm

The Kings have had a nice little run that’s gotten them, for the moment, in the 5th (!) seed spot. But….now it’s time for an Eastern roadtrip and all the adversity that goes with that, jetlag and whatever. The schedule gets rougher for a while.

  12. willedav said, on November 21, 2022 at 2:50 pm

Giants off season chat is on MLBTR right now.
Moderator thought they could get Correa Bell and Taijuan Walker fwiw.

  13. willedav said, on November 21, 2022 at 3:39 pm

Gad, more Bellinger talk on that chat…arrgggh. Giants need to acquire an OF etc. who can HIT. This guy hasn’t hit for 3 effing seasons and his shoulder might never be right. I can respect WAR stat, but the idea he provided value to Dogs with his D is BS. Do you want Jackie Bradley Jr.? They were batting Bellinger at bottom of the order like you would Dubon. get a real hitter(s).

    • unca_chuck said, on November 21, 2022 at 3:47 pm

That’s worse than Jansen . . . Christ. Enough already with the washed up dogs.

To think we can have Puig (ooops), Jansen, and Bellinger. Might as well get Belt and Longo back.

  14. Flavor said, on November 21, 2022 at 3:58 pm

if Farhan signs Belly we know he’s FOS and not a serious GM

  15. unca_chuck said, on November 21, 2022 at 5:09 pm

Got to play these guys up close to the line. They are gonna quick-pass all night. And try to run.

  16. unca_chuck said, on November 21, 2022 at 5:13 pm

Ill say it again, Bell and Nimmo should be no-brainers. They won’t break the bank and we can get pitching and a reliever or 3.

What up with Anderson? He wanted out of the Dodgers that much?

  17. willedav said, on November 21, 2022 at 6:15 pm

NYG Homer Jones first in NFL with spike? Hewitt Dixon of Raiders had great ones.

“All the way with Homer J”…..

    • djloo27 said, on November 21, 2022 at 8:06 pm

And Chiefs Elmo Wright the first TD dance in the end zone…

  18. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on November 21, 2022 at 6:32 pm

Giants don’t need to get Judge, the last thing the team needs is an apparent *attempt* to sign him, fail, and then dumpster dives the rest of the off-season. As others say here: Nimmo, Bell, Correa or Turner, and a pitcher or two, very gettable. Yeah, it’s a lot. Signing an old and in the way Dodger would just be lazy and stoopid….

  19. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on November 21, 2022 at 7:14 pm

Bell is definitely a no-brainer. Only need a minor uniform embroidery change from Belt.

  20. Locojuan said, on November 21, 2022 at 7:38 pm

Niners look like they own Mexico City.

    • djloo27 said, on November 21, 2022 at 7:55 pm

The 1968 Mexico City Olympics were unforgettable for many reasons.
Incredibly, the American city that they narrowly outbid was……….Detroit!

    A la mierda los Cardenales.

  24. unca_chuck said, on November 21, 2022 at 7:48 pm

Jimmy doing his Alex Smith impersonation. I just like the fact most of these are quick passes.

The couple times Jimmy bought time, he actually found guys. Kittle being the best one.

  25. Macdog said, on November 21, 2022 at 7:57 pm

The end zone’s an open border in Mexico City.

    • djloo27 said, on November 21, 2022 at 8:03 pm

Probably just visiting family on the way to LA…

      • Locojuan said, on November 21, 2022 at 8:12 pm

Yep, gotta think LA is on his itinerary.

  26. djloo27 said, on November 21, 2022 at 8:01 pm

If somehow the Chiefs and 49ers meet up again in the SB just 3 years later, I believe KC would return only 2 of the same starters on both offense (Mahomes & Kelce) and defense (Jones & Clark). Plus PK, Butker. That’s off the top of my head.
Have the Niners had as much turnover?

  27. unca_chuck said, on November 21, 2022 at 8:22 pm

No. Deebo, Kittle, Jimmy Ward, Bosa, Jimmy G, Moseley, AA, Warner, Juice, Brunskill, Al-Shaair Greenlaw, Gould, and Wishnowski were there off the top of my head. I’m sure there’s more.
