A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Big 10 Showdown

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on November 26, 2022

Black Friday, over. A day which saw me golf and buy absolutely nothing.

Michigan a +7.5 dawg? Harbs blows covers like these when he’s the favorite, gotta think he’s got something up his sleeve as a dawg.

What’s happening in the World Cup? Has Spain won it all yet?

Texas, who beat Baylor yesterday, needs 11.5 point underdog Kansas to beat rival K-State in order to get to Big 12 title game vs. unbeaten TCU. K-State has won 13 in a row in the series though Kansas having its best football season in long time iirc. Rivalry games in college football are great.
Harbs, idk this might be his best shot. Just seems like whenever he “has something up his sleeve” like some trick play in clutch situation, it doesn’t work.

Big college basketball tournament with national powers going on in Portland at 2 different venues. Local team Portland Pilots, perennial also-rans in WCC (Gonzaga St. Mary’s BYU) almost beat North Carolina day before and knocked off struggling Villanova yesterday. UNC did lose to Iowa St., who will play Purdue (who thrashed Zags 84-66) for title Sunday. Good stuff.

Always liked Cyclones, who put cool players into NBA for years, including Tyrese Halliburton .

That wasn’t me who made that bet, though I’d probably take Buckeyes anyway. I usually miss this game due to family gathering in Carlisle Pa., where Jim Thorpe played college ball at Carlisle Indian School. It’s hard to root for either team, same for USC-ND tonight.

Jim Thorpe didn’t play football there. He actually never even visited the town of Mauchunk (the former name of the town). The two towns are about 2 hours apart. They only named the town after him b/c his wife stole his body from his family after he died and sold it to the town as a roadside attraction for $25,000. Sick.

Spain routed Costa Rica in opener and is tied with Japan atop Group E, though Spain is ahead in goal differential. Spain plays Germany tomorrow and Japan later next week.

RE: The Bob Gibson post at the end of the last thread.
    Almost true but not quite.
After giving up the grand slam to LaCock, Gibson retired Don Kessinger (3-1) if you’re scoring at home.
    I had a hunch it wasn’t true cause I never heard it…

Column in Athletic gave edge to Harbs if it was weather game, but not if conditions look like now, due to strength of Stroud and OSU passing game. Harbs did get them last year, dunno if he can do it again with run oriented old school physical team.

    • willedav said, on November 26, 2022 at 9:05 am

? was how much pressure Harbs D line could put on Stroud and how well his secondary would hold up.

Yeah like Krueger would know who Judge is going to sign with.

      How can elated=rejected?
Ever get a fake phone number from a hot chick when you were 19?

Great game between Ohio St and Michigan it’s been bombs away on both sides with long TD passes 20-17 Ohio St for two 11-0 teams!
Harbaugh doing his usual choke game clock management on last possession though, wasting precious clock time without taking a TO,then 2 straight false starts killed the last drive..

    • willedav said, on November 26, 2022 at 11:20 am

His ground game getting stuffed too. See if they come out throwing second half. Only down FG.

  10. alleykat69 said, on November 26, 2022 at 11:17 am

Unless they sign Judge they’re no reason to be elated at all.
Probably just means the Giants passed the Yanks in the latest rounds of negotiations in this chess match..

wow another long TD pass for UM. Ohio secondary burned again and UM QB outplaying Stroud.

  12. willedav said, on November 26, 2022 at 11:54 am

Trick play worked that time. UM ground game picking up too.

Ohio State shot themselves in the feet numerous times in the 2nd half. The 15 yard unsportsmanlike on the sideline lost them that game.

Harbaugh finally gets past THE Ohio State.

2 wins in a row for Big Blue vs THE Ohio state univ. Fun game!
Messi and Mbappe scoring. A good day for the stars!

Reports about Judge’s SF visit included mention of putting him in touch with Seth Curry to talk about how it is for a *superstar* to play sports in the Bay Area. No word on how that conversation went. I wonder, does that approach ever truly influence anyone? I can’t remember specifics but seem to remember teams doing that when trying to land a major free agent… but don’t recall someone ever signing with a team because another athlete (from a different sport, no less) said they should….

    • djloo27 said, on November 26, 2022 at 9:30 pm

      I don’t think it means a damn thing in today’s world…

The only time I was “recruited” was during a cross-country road trip in ’76 passing through South Dakota, and Yankton College laid out a spread to entice me into transferring. Uh, yeah, sorry, what, no Lyle Alzado to give me a sales pitch? Fuhgetaboutit….
