A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Goodbye, David

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on November 27, 2022

They say he resigned and that’s probably true although it’s also entirely possible the alumni had a *talk* with him and all parties decided this was the best way to handle it. Shaw has earned going out on his own terms.

Whatever you want to call it, he’s gone. I don’t rejoice because I don’t see how Stanford competes at the highest level anymore with the way the landscape and the rules have changed. Shaw is smart, maybe he just couldn’t see a successful path forward either.

But it is past time for a new voice to be heard on the farm. A new voice with new plays that don’t involve running off tackle over and over and over and over and over and over…..again.

His time at Stanford was very successful. Those days are long gone.

Transfer portal has changed landscape of all big college sports. Stanford can still compete, but football program (like Cal’s) has to rebuild both lines and depth at skill positions–totally doable just gonna take more work than Shaw interested in at this point I’d guess.
They are awful–I watched first quarter last night and they were down 21-3 to 5 loss BYU, playing a home game in Paly that started at 8 PM in front of no one.

That was my problem with him when he coached my late friend’s son Kevin Hogan in not letting him throw to see if he could be effective. Just run run run.

In Chron story Shaw says couple telling things, admitting Stanford Admin very slow to change (transfer portal and NIL), and that he is not burned out or looking to coach elsewhere at any level right away. I think this stuff has more to do with things than playing academics card.

I realize it’s different sport entirely but men’s b-ball has had one and done players 2 years in a row (Tyrell Terry and first round NBA pick Ziaire Williams) and another potential one (Harrison Ingram) stayed this season as soph. The top rated women’s team has 2 All Americans and they are taking advantage of $$ route as influencers etc. with thousands of followers.

Agree. It’s time for a new regime at Stanford. College football has always been about the glory of the past, recruiting, and coaching. The tribe will be back.

Got to say, since the Chron gives me access to the online edition for $0.99 a month, reading Michael Silver in the Sporting Green is great. Very good writer.

    Run, run, run
    Let’s run
    Let’s run
    Run with me
    Run with me
    Run with me
    Let’s run

    • unca_chuck said, on November 27, 2022 at 11:48 am

      streameast.ml.

It now has a screen that you need to wait about 30 seconds before it gets you to the games.

They keep changing the extension to keep from getting shut down.

    .ml is a new extension.

Spain and Germany finish in 1-1 tie. Spain took 1-nil lead in 62nd minute, but the Germans got the equalizer in the 83rd minute.

      Flatline at goal line.

That was on Jimmy. If he waited a second Mitchell was open.

Play before too where Saints left McCaffrey wide open on left and G threw right instead.

      • willedav said, on November 27, 2022 at 2:45 pm

        TD coming back yikes.

With all the big names on offense Jennings is the guy dominating.
Shanahan’s red zone O sucks though.

That was one wacky and sloppy 1st half.

thanks Mac. Goddamn, well as I understand it a tie isn’t bad.

Not great, but I think Spain is still in good shape to advance.

Adebo #29, the cornerback defending the pass for Saints before Niners kicked FG, is Stanford guy drafted year ago. so is Okereke, LB in NFL. Isn’t new thing either them being able to get talent there.

In pac 12, each football team must have at least 50 + scholarship athletes right? So out of that 600, how many are going to make bank out of NIL, or ever make a cent playing pro ball–10% maybe?

NCAA allows 85 scholarships per FBS teams…so maybe pool is even larger.
