The New Rules
I haven’t seen enough spring training baseball to have a take on this but so far I am in favor of the rules changes. At least the pitch clock for sure. I hadn’t realized how much the game has dragged on till I watched a game where the players were actually playing and not standing around stroking their balls and spitting. I don’t get it though, baseball has always been about stroking your balls and spitting. When did it turn into an extra 45-60 minutes of game time?
I am the biggest stolen base advocate out there but I’m worried this maximum throw attempt rule will do too much for the runner.
The shift change is also something I support.
What about Flap Nation? What looks good/bad to you guys?
Darin Ruf, DFA’d by the Mets.
I have been advocating for more team speed and stolen bases for the last couple years along sleuth right-handed slugger, so I appreciate the rule changes that should put more balls in play and focusing on moving runners along and stolen bases. The type of baseball I love.
Will also do much to speed the game along. The best in college from the Jo was heading up to the Stick for a night game paying $2.50 for a bleacher seat and then the game ending in a couple of hours or two and half hours and then heading back to the Jo and maybe back by 10 or 10:30 pm.
I’m with ya on the shift rule. I also like the pitch clock when I’m watching the game on the tube, especially when I’ll be watching West Coast night games. Also, I’m not a fan of high scoring games, so I like getting a 10-8 game done in 2 1/2 hours as opposed to 4. Still, I never minded the pace of an NL game when I was at the yard so there is that.
That Ruf for J.D. Davis looks like an absolute winner of a trade.
J.D. gonna rake…

If you got Wordle today (the one that came on here at midnight) in less than 6 you are either some kind of fuckin genius or an extremely sick individual…
They’ve already tweaked rules a bit and I’m sure players and mgrs. will push for more adjustments as things go on. In order for anyone to take advantage of SB rules you have to get on base first, so hope Giants can do that at better clip. See what happens, but I’m in. Ghost runner still bugs a lot of fans, but it has shortened extra inning games a lot which has to help pitching staff maintenance, league wide issue.
Flav your 7:39 last night was spot on. Wiseman wasn’t going to be short term help to GS at all and they are unique system with Draymond at point forward facilitator/screener. Curry and Klay can work with Zaza and Looney but not so much with Wiseman type strict low post or high screen/roll only Center. He has issues with hands and D positioning, especially for rebounds.
Doint what they had to do to get Payton 2 back definitely win, as DeVincenzo likely one and done due to lack of salary GS can offer him next season.
Also, man Jordan Poole love/hate among GS fans reminds me of Belt Wars. 2 polarizing games, where he lit up Philly and then melted down at end last night. Patience grasshopper.
Really interested to see what happens with Belt too. Everyone usually feels great in Spring; let’s see how he holds up over 6 months in Toronto. If he’s OK he could last quite a while as DH/PH and part time fill in at 1b and be productive bat in hitter friendly yard.
Thank you for reviving the Flap, Flav!
I’m all in for the pitch clock. The clincher was going to a Triple-A game last year that flew. Long overdue.
Not crazy about the no-shift rules, and definitely not on board with limit on throws to 1B. I too am worried this will unfairly tip the advantage to the baserunner.
Ditto.
You can finally start getting excited about the stolen bag!
Stroking your balls&spitting lol 😂, im guessing the extra 45-60 minutes helped the players fill up their jock cups per games. But seriously sort of, YES this time clock was needed years ago , do I really need a hitter adjusting his hitting gloves 20 times, while heading to the on deck circle to do it???
The 2 pitch throw over to 1st I’m not overly thrilled with.Once he gets his 2 unsuccessful throws in, yeah it’s all in for runners to go wild, and poor catchers will hardly be throwing out a runner unless they luck out on a pitch out call they’re pct of throwing out a runner goes into the 30% figures, plus the freaking bases needed to be larger as well seriously? all advantages for the runner..
The Shift is the one I’m going to enjoy eliminating, never cared for it all the way back to McCovey ,let these professional hitters hit in the natural circumstances, not a stacked deck! This will be so much more enjoyable to watch again imo
I like the pitch clock also. Haven’t seen enough of the throws over to 1st yet to really have an opinion. Still hate the extra innings dude on 2nd though.
Just really looking forward to the season. Love that we open up with the Yanks.
ST highlights, Bay Bridge: Villar and Pederson homered yesterday in Oaktown, Giants stole 4 bags won 9-5. Romo supposed to pitch tonight (on regular local Sports Channel) at the O. Cobb supposed to be evaluated today after brief outing but appears on track to start for Game 2 in NYC.
Another positive about the Flap reincarnation is that the text chat about bird shit I’ve been having with James and MacDog can be shifted over here for all to participate…
I don’t know anyone who give a sixteenth of a fuck about the NCAA tournament unless they are miraculously alive in some fuckin pool.
Won’t be long before all sports are looked at like that as the old time fans who really cared about their teams continue to drop dead at a disquieting pace…
Almost everyone I know is dead…
Me too.
I would have liked Voit on a 1 year deal. We never fucking pick up right handed power hitters.

I thought the same thing when I heard he was available.
Yeah, down with the pitch clock. Bases? 2 throws and run wild? Seems like a recipe for a lot of steals. But hey, it beats standing around waiting for shit. I just have no idea how hard managers will go after steals when it has been eradicated from stragety.
The tourney? I’m cool with it since there are so many underdogs.
I would have liked Bell for what he got. No brainer in my book.
Stix is getting closer and closer to posting here successfully again! This was from yesterday and it went into my spam for some reason. Maybe he used one of the banned words? I’ll check. Anyway, this was it

Say hey! Season looms and no reason for dooms. James, perhaps those injuries will give some of the newbies like Sabol and Johnson an opportunity to shine. Yaz is toast here. Ship him to the RedSox as a nostalgia trip for that bunch of flounders. Ditto Ramos. Didn’t show much this spring. Might get low-level prospects for both of them.
Staff is loaded for bear. Seven capable of starting. When have the Giants had such a luxury? Three guys as possibles for set-up duties and Doval looking to achieve genuine veteran status, as his self-confidence may override his ego as well as those occasional jitters.
As of the end of Free Agent frenzy, my prediction in the W-L column was and remains at 87-75. No Grade C actors in the probable lineup, should match out the lack of a superstar. Once both Haniger and Conforto are fully good to go and with Johnson potentially starting in CF, along with Late Night finally finding his stick; the OF should be a strength.
Bart has shown more than last go-round, but remains somewhat in doubt. Three capable catchers, including an oft-injured vet makes for a lot of decision making by the deciders. Infield looks pretty stout, with up and comers lurking into the season.
Much kudos to Flav for these resurrection moments getting back chattering away on the Flap. Sure missed you guys. Lots to learn from this bunch. Go Giants!!!
Had high hopes for Heliot.
Still only 20 ML ABs…
Me too with Jalyn Davis 😫
Romo.
Until this moment, I did not know Garry Templeton ended his career with the Mets.
What a disappointing career after an insane start.
Look at those triples at age 21, 22, and 23.
https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/templga01.shtml
7 knee surgeries and mental problems took him down from what I read:
https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/Garry-Templeton/
Helluva player with Cards. sounds like he was even good mgr after playing career ended. Unfortunate the knee problems took such a toll. Before Giants game Krukow was talking about modern day training staffs vs. old days.
imagine what Templeton would have done to Triples Alley in his prime
So the pitch clock is a good thing? I always thought it was about prolonging the game. I’m not a big fan of the shift change either. Seems like it will make it harder for the defense. What are your thoughts?
