Flap Magic Sandwiched By Two Shitshows
So much ugliness in that first series of the year I don’t really know where to start. That’s the first time they’ve been shut out twice in an opening series in their history. They struck out 41 times smashing the previous record of a whopping 32 strikeouts to start a season.
It’s only 1 series and it’s barely April.
But that was ugly.
I was actually quite surprised we won one game…this team has the hallmarks of a Grand Dumpster Fire…
Flap Trio took down Game 2 for us.
We weren’t just fooling around
We left it all out there…
Our only salvation
Judge had a pretty nice little series, he sure would have looked good in orange and black.
until i see one of these big FA’s actually put the uni on I’m gonna be resigned to the *Confortos and *Hanigers of the world
Judge was never coming here in first place and Giants fans have to let that BS go. Beside Posey’s last season, guys who led 2021 were holdovers and Gausman, not $100 mil superstars. For that matter, who accounted for 3/5? It was “Band of Misfits” not superstars at all–heroes were guys like Uribe Pablo Scutaro Torres Affeldt and the one offs like Ross Morse et al.
If he wasn’t coming here then why did Farhan waste half the off season trying to get him to come? Shouldn’t his time have been better spent doing something else to actually make the team competitive?
Ahhh let’s not forget WD that 3X5 was built on the backs of a stellar drafted starting pitchers in Cain Timmay and Bum. Logan Webb may be our Cain and maybe Kyle Harrison is comparable hopefully to Timmay but that is still only a prayer and who in the system will be Bum??? Whomever that is and Harrison’s development means at best we would be 3-4 years away from competitiveness. Farhan is not getting 3-4 more years without tangible success in the field.
Whatever happened to the ’21’ patience at the plate strategy that worked so well.
Maybe I need to go down and get a burger 🍔 and beer 🍺 at the Giants latest hangout in MP The “Dutch Goose Eggs”
The Giants need to go all-in on Ohtani. He wants to stay on the west coast.
Must and then we will watch him sign with the F’n Flodgers…
Sorry if this is a duplicate…last post did not seem to go through…
Re: Ohtani totally agree have to go all in. Then we will watch him sign with the F’n Flodgers…
How/why does Thairo hit 3rd one day, then 9th the next, and vice versa. How can a player develop any consistent approach doing that? In my book, that’s beyond overmanaging, overthinking…
And he batted 6th opening day!
3-6-9
The goose drank wine…
ICYMI at the mausoleum.
The Goose, the Oasis, Canyon Inn, Rossati’s, Rose & Crwon, so many old haunts out there. Some here, some gone.
I was in rose and crown last week. Still the same
Went to the Goose last year. Pretty much the same as well!
Someone will get Ohtani and everyone else will not.
Dodgers have taken very different approach on high priced FAs lately.
They let Seager and Jansen walk. Added Trea Turner and Scherzer, then let them walk and didn’t add high priced SS. As they did with J Turner and Bellinger. Also no high priced SP signings despite Buehler likely to miss all of 2023. Instead they have mid tier signings Peralta and J D Martinez (both 35) and younger players.
I think this is how Z wants to roll and in year or two SF should be better able to do that. Villar is here, Schmitt and Harrison soon others hopefully to follow.
Paying FAs 10 years and exorbitant salaries, no.
I say you are going to win more games with a marquee player on your side as opposed to playing against one.
I understand how Sabes built those 3 Championship teams, home grown talent with some great trades, a couple of strong FAs and one great waiver wire snag but that doesn’t seem to be the same playbook that Zaidi is going by. His has seemed more like a waiver wire roulette. I know the kids haven’t progressed as fast as expected, but if/when they do, I’d hope the Giants will sign some of them to longer term deals (Logan Webb, come on down). I suppose when Sabes rewarded guys like Buster, Crawford, Belt, Timmy, Bum and Cain to longer term deals that it was questionable but it’s what separates the Giants from the As.
Because they are waiting and saving on Ohtani…
I get platooning. But, baseball players are creatures of extreme habit and routine. If you continually F with them in terms of when they play, where they play, and where they hit in the LU, methinks that’s way beyond platooning or mixing/matching utility players, and ultimately isn’t great for long-term clubhouse sanity and consistently good play…
We had 4 rocks in the pen for those 3 titles (Romo, Affeldt, Lopez, Casilla) plus sprinklings of Wheezy, Kontos, Petit, Ramirez, Machi, etc.
Bochy used them like Bobby Fischer used the Queen’s Gambit.
Much as the game’s changed, a gang like that would probably still contend…
Yep, the Core Four was a critical asset of those champ teams. Basically, when they came in with a lead, the game was over…
A Joc sock!
Perez RBI hit!
Damn, Joc robbed of another HR.
Yaz RBI double, 3-0.
I don’t mind this Rizzo guy so far. My first time listening to him I think.
With ya Dog.
He’s an easy listen…
Conforto-bly bomb!
And back-to-back with Thairo!
Yaz blast!
Are you kidding? Villar bomb!
How fuckin’ great is this?
Guillorme pitching the 8th for the Mets.
So I guess the trick is just to play the White Sox all season…
Conforto’s bomb a homer in every MLB park except Oracle SMH.
Nice! That’s power Z wanted to see.
And actually Kap has hardly platooned at all so far. Joc is DH, and IF mostly set. Rotating LF, but otherwise not much.
And catcher . . .
The key Score 7 are Score Zero!
Meanwhile, no Disco demolition by the White Sox
Manaea looks like shit
Whatya guys think on this Gary Sanchez acquisition? How many catchers do they need in the organization to tell Bart that he’ a goner unless he turns into Johnny Bench by May?
Disco looked sharp I have a good feeling on him bouncing back after ankle surgery, he’s pitched well through out ST.Manaea meh…
Manaea looks like dried shit.
Granny for Villar!! Damn!!
11-3 Gigantes!! Leading the league in home runs. 6 today!
Villar having a day.
Now Johnson touches em all.
Nice Bryce!! Guarantee another shutout tomorrow.
lol
Giants lead MLB in home runs!
Kap and Zaidi are guniuses! Right???
VILLAR GRANDSLAM!! 2Bomb Day!!
Now Bryce Johnson Yard!!! Wow 7 HR Day who are these guys??
imagine having this swing your entire life
Until I saw video of myself a few years ago, I never knew that I had Mickey Mantle’s swing.
Making contact with it is another story.
Also got his alcohol problem…
Like looking in the mirror…

What about on the left side?
Villar is making me a believer (maybe Casey Schmitt gets a go next year at short) and I want to see more and more of Bryce Johnson.
First I had heard of Gary Sanchez minor league signing. Probably a pure DH platoon possibility of it pans out. He is awful awful awful behind the plate. Let’s see if he can take at AAA…not a dumb move but Sabol might not be a long termer.
The Giants were flat out amazing today. Most of those dingers were no-doubters. If we can come even close to hitting like this for awhile we just might have something. Nothing boring about this one.
Glad to see this is starting to sink in with someone here.
This was a huge fuckin day for us!
Tied for first place!

So 4 games played, I think I have seen the worst and the best so far, if they play somewhere on the side of the best they should be okay, I always say the Giants org did not build the 2010 team in a few days, it took what…years?
They need to build the team from within, with some vets, and a FA that won’t cost an arm and a leg. Searching the bottom of the barrel for platoon guys ain’t going to get it done.
Loo, you asked about the vertigo (sorry for my late reply). I guess in some cases, the cause can be identified, often an inner ear problem, but in others (such as mine, apparently), the cause is a mystery and the docs will just throw all kinds of meds at you, hoping something works, but nothing did for me. Mine was so bad at one point in January, I thought I was having a stroke on a couple occasions, but docs said probably no stroke, just super bad migraines, often affiliated with vertigo. I had a brain MRI, a CT-scan, and ultrasound of arterial blood flow to the brain, all pretty much normal. I finally “did my own research” and put myself on a month-long steroid regimen (dexamethasone), which didn’t flat out *cure* it, but at least made me feel human and functional again. In their inability to nail down a cause, the docs said it could be the long covid thing, which they can blame anything on that they don’t fully understand, I guess. Could be real too. Anyway, I remember Nick Esasky, remember him?, played in Boston one year in late ’80s after some good years in Cincy. He had to retire young because of vertigo. I remember thinking, really?, they can’t cure or at least help control vertigo? Now I know, no they can’t, sometimes. On we go.
vertigo is awful. I get it now and again after I get a migraine. Feel terrible for you that it has lasted this long, that’s fucked up
My faith in doctors is at an all-time low.
They do an awful lot of guessing.
They haven’t figured out vertigo yet?
Jesus, fuckin Barney Rubble had it.
I’ve been told that medical school is a joke.
It’s all about getting in – after that 90% BS. Nobody flunks out.
All kinds of things wrong with me during and since my 5 Covid needles,
but as I posted (or told James the other day?) it could be age,
lifestyle, luck or anything that no one will ever know or give a
fuck about. Anyway, hope you keep improving, Paul.
Wish you the best and great to reunite with the gang here.
Awesome of Flavor to resurrect this asylum…
I got tinnitus and have had it for about 8 months. It goes from mildly annoying to fucking insanity inducing.
Dr said if it has only been a couple months we might be able to do something. At that point it was 3 months. I said great. Tried to get an appointment and they said we can see you in 5 months. Did a hearing test that was scary. My high range hearing is gone. They wanted to do an mri on my head.
I’m covered, right? Sure it only costs $1500 and I said fuck that. Ain’t coverage grand?
What a drag it is, getting old…

So are we game for it? It’s like that legendary little girl: “When she’s good, she’s very, very good . And when she is bad, she’s horrid. ” From the top, though Los Gigantes rang up that barrage of blasts; the key to the game was the calm, collected approach that Disco took on the mound. Not being down from the get-go, the Giants batters got their sticks going…and that against a pretty decent, not so bad pitcher in much the same they went after Schmidt in game two. Webb wasn’t exactly taken to the cleaners, as his relatively few hits and mass of special K’s would attest. Cobb threw a decent game, about what we would expect vs. sluggers spotted throughout the NY lineup. Give him a hand for that. The “Mere Stripling” sure the hell isn’t seasoned well in these early goings…a certifiable mess, so far. Ditto with Manaea. Those two have yet to start trucking. Generally the relievers have been mostly decent…even though Doval got flummoxed by that clockworx. Overall, the staff might just be better than a lot of Debbie Downers keep insisting. Junis still has it together and Tyler was something new, different and bewildering to A.L. batters…not so much his twin. Alexander looks sharp. How Hjelle managed to give up a pair of Earnies on walks and such while holding the YankMes hitless, is a bit beyond my comprehension…staff adjustments look to be sporadic as the season moves along.
As for those sticks, granted there is not a single superstar in the lineup and maybe barely something vaguely suggesting a guy with star quality…but perhaps Villar, who floated through the system without getting his proper recognition by team analysts who seem to be stuck on high draft picks to promote to The Show…that guy could become a bit of a monster. Could he blast 40 in ’24? He seems to have a certain knack. Great to see Yaz maybe channeling his MaTaaZ. If that plays out, the season could get kinda interesting. Conforto seems comfy while facing pitchers who are not top-notch…that’s about 80% of MLB starters. Injuries: Estrada, another guy who may be hitting his peak, went and dinged himself with his own foul. He shouldn’t be out long…could even be back by Wednesday with that day off. The big guy with the Swedish surname and the Jewish mother, set the table today for that rally of homer happiness. Late-Night is having a tepid start. Maybe he just doesn’t like day games. So far, Sabol has been so-so and if he doesn’t pick it up against the Tigers and Royals, he may not stay a Giant after facing the likes of the LaBumbos, Cardinals and Mets…plus Haniger should return to the team along with that squad homing in on the City by the Bay. Haven’t seen very much of Wilmer yet, so it’s hard to say. CrawDaddy has had one very good outing…so there is hope. WHO’s at first? Still a bit up in the air and has been since BB9 didn’t get re-upped. Behind the plate…confusion reigns. But the vet behind the plate today obviously was totally d’accord, as the French say with Di Sclafani and also made a nice contribution to those base-knocks and even had him a nice RiBEye.
All in all, the probable take on the batsmen is that at this point they still lack that certain flair that throws a bit of fear into opposing hurlers. Good to see that second long-term pipeline guy, Johnson ,getting his first MLB hit…and a solid knock it was. If he could play half-assedly regularly, his thievish habits on the base paths could drive opposing pitchers right up the wall. If a running game could be added to the long-balling, the SF attack could even discombobulate elite opposing pitchers. The guys are still a bit awkward in RISP situations, as we appear to be lacking a Tony Gwynn type of pure hitter…or a Rod Carew for that matter. Overall, my expectation is that the team on the field and at the plate will tear up a good proportion of non-elite pitchers. That 87 wins projection I made back during the Free Agent frenzy still holds. If they can beat-up on the sub-.500 outfits, hold their own with the middling squads and occasionally knock off the rankers, there may be a chance for romance.
Kapler needs to learn how not to over-manage, basically just going by the analytics. If he can get over his habit of shifting lineup positions, sometimes to a level which drives knowledgeable fans half crazy; the team could jell into something kinda special. So go with the flow, wild goose on the loose and just maybe the Orange and Black won’t be stuck in the caboose.
No one breaks it down like Stix, but I don’t think we’ve had a Gwynn – Carew type since Bill Terry…
again, if any of you guys understand what his problem is email him some ideas.

Flav: Sorry to keep bothering you, but try as I have, no luck with their A.I. system. They are stuck on my old password and with all the moving around, I sure can’t remember it. Do you have any idea how I could talk with an actual human being on that site, so we could get things straightened out? In a second posting, I’ll give my take on today’s romp. Thanks for your patience and many thanks for re-flapticting my favorite baseball site. -stix
my idea, and to be honest I still don’t know the problem, would be to just create a new acct/user name
Yep. New email and PW and log in with it should work.
Were the Yankees that good (Giants K’d 61X in 3 games) or are the ChiSox that bad (Giants 7 dingers today !). Somewhere in between, is more like it…
Who is the only Giant to score at least 100 runs in both 1999 and 2000?
Clint is back!!! Go Giants!!
Marvin Bernard???
WTG Kat!
