A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Homeostatic Balance Requested

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 5, 2023

So, I’m cool if we don’t hit 7 home runs today. Not cool if we score no runs. Is there something they can settle on that’s a little more middling? A week like this is why I don’t like looking at runs scored per game to gauge the success or failure of an offense. Maybe near the end of the year it’s ok.

Major crosswind in the game today, 25 mph.

Got some rain for the Masters with the biggest rain day being Sat. We will probably finish that tourney on Monday.

The Masters is good theater, but is it really good golf? Admittedly I don’t follow golf much anymore, the players seem like walking corporations, and now that LIV thing is a joke. A lot of the players are guys with Green Jackets, but are off their game or just playing to see if they can make the cut. And, it seems pretty much like a drive and putt contest, the fairways are so wide. US Open is far more of a challenge, this is more of an entertainment thing IMO…

well, Augusta is no picnic. I think the LIV guys are pretty fucked. Will be surprised if any of the 18 go top 5 with the possible exception of DJ who always seems to play well whenever I watch him

Starting today Giants have 22 games with 1 day off in between. 11 of those are vs. Dogs Cardinals and Mets. See how well pitching (and HRs) hold up.

    • Winder said, on April 5, 2023 at 9:24 am

Yeah, that should be a fairly good barometer on how our teams gonna play against good teams. Giants hitters should be a little more relaxed after the Sox game and hopefully a little more patient. Still way to early to tell much about what this years team is about.

Such a strange start to the season, Giants are only team that’s played just 4 games. And when is Wood ever gonna start, tomorrow?
My brother and his wife are going to the Masters Saturday and Sunday, yeah, they might be staying around Augusta on Monday too.

Have to go Scottie Scheffler winning the Masters, he’s the best player in golf always solid on his shots, defending champ that already defended his win in Phoenix won the Players and killed his Championship dinner as well last night in Augusta!

For a LIV guy my sleeper pick is Cam Smith who’s still a top 10 player in the world with plenty of game..

I remembered Hal had a linguini bat, but according to baseball reference, he had a career OPS at .529. Criminy, Lemaster’s career OPS was .566…

      • djloo27 said, on April 5, 2023 at 12:44 pm

        Fun fact:
Mays nicknamed Hal “Maxie” after his dad, pitcher Max Lanier who was briefly young Willie’s teammate…

      • djloo27 said, on April 5, 2023 at 2:44 pm

        Maybe not that much fun…

  17. alleykat69 said, on April 5, 2023 at 12:50 pm

I cringed every time I watched Lanier play SS&Bat !!!
Even my popcorn 🍿 and soda drink 🥤felt stale & flat watching his sorry ass play..

  19. unca_chuck said, on April 5, 2023 at 1:10 pm

Yep. Figured it would be limp noodle time. 7 walks? No runs off those.

We don’t hit bombs, we don’t win.

Today’s Giants starting lineup has 5 batters hitting under .200.

Worse Zum, is that the entire LU is averaging over 10 SOs per game . . . Add another 11 (at least so far for this game).

I love Zaidi, but I don’t see how this roster fits his “futon” approach – read something on The Athletic where they described “Zaidi’s house is absolutely filled with futons. Every room has one. You never know if you’re going to need a couch or a bed.” In other words, his type of player is flexible and can play multiple positions; good on base %; and has power.

Other than Yaz (whom I dislike intensely), I have no idea how this squad will succeed going forward. Sort of feast or famine every game.

If only Wilmet & Joc had done this earlier…

I’m kind of curious what kind of game the Kings will give the Mavs today. The Mavs are fighting for their playoff lives, and the game means basically nothing to the Kings.
Although it would be nice to see the Kings get 50 wins. That’s a nice goal.
Division titles in the NBA don’t mean anything anymore. The Kings won the Pacific Division, for what it’s worth.

    • unca_chuck said, on April 5, 2023 at 4:55 pm

Dubs need a couple wins to stay out of the play-in deal. Kings on Friday. They finally get Wiggs back, so we will see how long it takes to get him acclimated. He might play in the last game vs Portland?

A play-in game would likely be a disaster. They NEED the week off to get Wiggins ready for action.

    I think blade is right.
5 games in, its way early, but this team looks like a classic .500 team, up one day, down the next.
The number of strikeouts is crazy …

I think we saw a middling effort today.

  34. unca_chuck said, on April 5, 2023 at 4:52 pm

13 today? 14? Didn’t get the total. Jeeebus. I thought the banning the shift was supposed to help out.

    • snarkk said, on April 5, 2023 at 4:54 pm

Banning the shift should help generate hits — as long as the batter hits the ball…

Clippers and Lakers are tied at 41-38 and they play each other tonight.

Guess we would want the Clippers as we own the better division record than them.

Warriors blew 2 games (2 pt lead with 14 seconds and the ball and lost, 4 point lead with 19 seconds left and lost) that really cost them/ I mean among the 10 or 15 they blew on the road.

My mom passed peacefully last night with all 4 of us kids at her side. Thank you to all of you for your positive thoughts, comments, and messages in recent times. She was really something else and I was lucky to have her in my life for 98+ years.
A rough stretch for sure, but I got so much great support from family and friends—-and yes my beloved Aztecs were a great distraction as well.
    Rest In Peace Bernice!
