Embarrassing Game 1
LA quickly reminded the world who their bitch is. I shouldn’t be surprised, a team that was all out to beat the Royals 1 time (and who blew a 5-1 lead to them as well) has no business competing with the Dodgers. Not this year. Or at least, not last night.
Baseball’s weird, we’ll probably smoke them tonight.
One thing is crystal clear: if Webb doesn’t stop shittin’ the bed we have no hope at .500 this season.
Slow burn after reading this . . .
“Manager Dave Roberts already planned to rest Muncy on Tuesday — if a player hits three home runs Roberts reconsiders any plan about resting someone.
Muncy has 23 home runs and 51 RBI in 73 games against the Giants.
“It’s a lot of fun,” he said. “Success in general is fun. But it does a little bit more for me when it’s here.”
Why would a manager rest Muncy when your team is playing an opponent that he crushes religiously, with impunity? Makes no sense to even consider resting him vs. Giants. Did the Giants ever voluntarily rest Stretch when Drysdale was pitching?…
Players are babied today. My annual rant (I apologize) is that there are too many fucking pitchers on rosters. Toughen these SOBs up by reducing the roster size (pitchers only) . . . THIS IS THE ONLY WAY THEY ARE GOING TO INCREASE BATTING AVERAGES, AND REDUCE SOs.
Talent gap between Giants and Dodgers glaring and painful. LA’s starting rotation deep and everyday lineup filled with top flight names. 10 games too small sample size but if this was election night early returns from outlying precincts wouldn’t bode well for Giants. Perhaps Haniger gives us much needed spark. Or Webb regaining 2021 prowess. Something.
Gotta keep reminding myself that it’s still early in the season, but right now we’re not only last in our division, we look it.
Last night was brutal.
Bottom 5 in Dogs lineup went 1-19 and Martinez looked like shit. Top of course, killed Giants. Muncy with the punchable face 2 bombs were to dead CF and LCF, not pulled over the wall.
One of most amazing stats to me about last season was Mookie Betts hitting 35 bombs.
At the current pace, Giants might have 7 guys strike out 150 times…
if those 7 bang 25-30 HR’s each I’m cool wit it
lqtm
If 2 of them hit 20, I’ll be amazed.
We pretty much suck right now.
Urias owns Giants, sure. Let’s see what their other starters have; Dogs aren’t near as stacked as they have been. Giants have done lot better vs. Opie recently too and no more Belt to kick around. It is 2 sub par games vs. LHP, though Wilmet and others helped save Sunday.
@Loo–sorry to admit that myself and other Warriors fans have been calling Gary Payton Jr “GP2” for while. Also draft pick Patrick Baldwin Jr. as “PBJ.” guilty as charged.
The Dogs may not be as good as they were, but they sure look better than us.
I guess we will see what happens in the next couple games. But consistency is not there. We have tons of pitchers but they are looking pretty mediocre. How long will Hjelle get to scuffle? And Stripling? Last year we spent 3 months rolling through AAAA OFers and IFers. This year it’s gonna be the pitchers?
Come on. PBJ is great. GP2 is pretty solid as well. What about Dr. J?
Payton and Loon my fav Warriors. Hope they can slow down Kings but should be fun Series. I use “DDV” a lot when I’m too lazy to type out DiVincenzo.
I still call a Pabst a PBR 🍺
“And the next time that friendly bartender says, “What’ll you have?” Give him that answer the whole world gives, ‘Pabst Blue Ribbon.”’
Yes, iit’s early days, 10 games in. They definitely need to have more contact, but that may be wishful thinking with this current group of hitters.
No surprise Dodgers may own the season’s series, the talent gap is big.
Though early this season, what is really not cool is that the Dodgers continue to regularly shed big-time talent, and just reload by acquiring new, big-time talent and/or bring up farm hands that are MLB ready and immediately contribute in a big way. The contrast to the Giants is stark. Now 5 years into the Z-Man regime, we continue to see a turnstile 26-man roster not only at the start of the season, but throughout — with no star power at all. Nobody in the offensive lineup is a legitimate, big time threat. Haniger and Slater coming back won’t change that. And, Logan Webb is not yet a bona fide star — he has to prove himself consistent over several years to be considered a real star. These first 3 starts of his are concerning…
what’s it like living up in Washington?
Gradually getting used to it. Slower pace of life where we live, which was by choice ahead of retirement. Instead of hearing sirens and suburban noises at night, we have mostly a gloriously silent ambient environment except for the seagulls screaming and eagles screeching above the Port Orchard channel shore, which is about 150 yards away from us. Deer and bunnies visit and help themselves to our plants. We do have neighbors (some of whom we’ve met and they’re all cool), but their houses are anywhere from a hundred yards to further away. Mrs. snarkk has joined the local “neighborhood” women’s book club, which meets monthly to supposedly discuss the latest book they all supposedly read — but from her first meeting last week it seems more of an excuse to socialize and drink wine and bourbon — just fine with her. We take walks down the road a mile to a a 250-slip marina that has all manner of sailboats and motorized vessels, including a few fishing boats. We haven’t seen them, but the boaters told us last week they’d seen a gray whale just off the marina and some random Orcas a few miles up the channel. Though we live in a place where there is definite separation from urban life, we’re literally a 7 minute drive from Silverdale where there is all the American “civilization” has to offer — from a really good hospital to Trader Joe’s to strip malls to fast food. The rain and frequent cloud cover is taking some getting used to, which is no surprise. I work remote from home, so that is really no different than before. When not raining, the area is beautiful, and if we look through the trees, we can see Mt. Rainier from our back deck. It’s taken us so much effort to move, with endless things to cover off and take care of still, I need to start getting out as the Spring and Summer weather improves and set up a new circle or group of at least a few acquaintances. Both snarkettes are graduating from college this year (one in June in Santa Barbara, the other December back in Jersey), so there is a healthy upheaval of sorts dealing with their situations and anxieties about their future, too. They will visit here for a while starting in late May and then in June. Never a dull moment. I’m thinking of checking out a Mariners game in the summer over in Seattle. They play the Giants this season, but looks like the games are in SF. I thought maybe I’d retire first half of next year after a last bonus, but now I’m targeting by end of this year. As I age, I’m clearly getting more impatient with things that I realize don’t really matter. I’m realizing that life being finite is not just a distant concept, but a reality to be acted on now…
snarkk- if it’s anything like the Oregon coast just plan on 9 months of winter and 3 of Summer. You do get used to the rain. We are thinking of moving up to the Everett, Marysville area but not sure as of yet.
Sounds real nice to me. Getting out there in the nicer weather should definitely
help you feel more settled.
What an amazingly detailed and well written response.
If it was me, you’d get the first sentence with 3 dots…
Winder — yeah, give me a shout if you move up here. The locals tell me that the sun starts really showing up regularly in mid-May and stays through mid-September, possibly into early October. August is the sunniest. Long-timers say there is definitely less consistent rain over the winter than in the past. We moved up here last September and it was warm and sunny then and for quite a while into October — the locals said very unusual that late. The reduced rain in the Cascades has led to an increased fire season points east of Seattle — last September we definitely had many smoky days even over here west across the Sound from Seattle…
Is one of the Snarkettes still at Drew? I was in Madison last week. Any plans on one last Jersey visit?
Honestly, we thought when she started at Drew we’d visit every Autumn, and put together a Fall Foliage trip every time with that. Then, Covid hit, and he haven’t been back since that first semester visit in 2019. She skipped a semester in the middle of Covid because taking classes online didn’t work well for her, like tons of students everywhere. For the cost per semester, skipping one online for one in person later turned out to be a smart choice. Good chance we will visit in December this year for her off semester graduation, and put together a Christmas in NYC trip with that…
I have a cousin in Seattle who has been there for 25 years and she said rain days have dropped by about 40%. Nothing like it used to be. I’m sure Oregon is the same. My friend on the Makenzie River lost his detached garage but not his house in the last round of fires up there.
And I’m sad to report she lost her dad (my Uncle Charlie) yesterday. He just hit 93 a month ago. He came out here right before COVID when he was 89 and he was sharp as a tack and we walked all over Napa hitting wineries. Great guy. I talked to him on his birthday and he has no idea what is going on now, but he remembers all the times growing up on the south side of Chicago. The brain is a mysterious fucked up thing.
He had recently moved to a memory-assisted living place and was doing OK. My cousin said the she talked to him was yesterday morning. He had gone out to dinner the night before. She said “Oh, who did you go with?” he said ” I have no idea, but we had a really good time!”
Best part of the story is he had a steak and a vodka for dinner.
chuck I don’t know about a lot of Oregon but where I live in the Mid-Willamette Valley it rains all the time. Sometimes it rains 2/3 weeks in a row late Aug thru early Sept. But we usually do have some nice weather after that into Oct.
chuck- so sorry about your uncle. I know what it’s like living with progressive dementia.
Thanks.
1. LaMonte Wade Jr. (L) 1B
2. Michael Conforto (L) RF
3. J.D. Davis (R) 3B
4. Joc Pederson (L) DH
5. Mike Yastrzemski (L) LF
6. David Villar (R) 2B
7. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
8. Blake Sabol (L) C
9. Bryce Johnson (S) CF
P: Alex Wood (L)
Dogs are still talented group but if Z had brought in David Peralta and Jason Heyward as starting corner OFs after missing out on Judge the outrage from fanbase would be significant. Conforto better player than either of them.
It’s a lead!
Joc knocks in 2!! Man did they need that!!
140 runs scored already with 3 games just barely started. Score early and often!
Looks like Bay Area fans are saving their ticket $$$ for Dubs-Kings.
dont like that move
No, but I guess Will Smith couldn’t have hit one harder off Wood than he did Junis.
Conforto with nice D again…Luis Gonzalez make that grab, or the other one in alley?
prolly not
hooooooo
Did Bryce Johnson K again? That’s 5 times in last 6 times up vs. LA.
wtf?
Sweet. WTG Alexander.
Time to score some runs!! 2-0 is scary
Let’s go Conforto . . .
Wow. Didn’t want any part of Conforto.
Take take take take
fuck fuck fuck fuck
Did Minnesota bench Gobert for the play-in game?
yes. Up 10 on Lakers as 4th just started. Winner gets Grizz.
Drama-free inning by Tyler.
Ballsy move by the T-Wolves.
Yaz! NEED more runs. YESSSSSSSS!!!!!
Villar!!!
Viva Villar!
Villar! wow what a shot.
And one by Crawford. 5-0 Giants yaha
Craw back-to-back!
Villar, Crawford. Bang, bang.
back 2 back!!
This guy Phillips is supposed to be Dogs closer and has 2 saves to his credit.
Cue Dogs fans climbing all over Roberts.
Blank LA!
Great win. Way to shut em out.
Nasty pitch to end the game…
Ballgame!!
T-Wolves choked the hell out of that game. Ouch.
Take game 3 and we will be good.
