A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

We Didn’t Lose

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 17, 2023

Snuck out of Detroit with a postponement. At this point, if it’s not a loss I’m taking it. Miami is just not a fun place to play. Luzardo seems rejuvenated there though so I am guessing this is going to be another tough game for the Orange and Black.

Dubs/Sactown in another barn burner tonight!

Here is a topic of discussion: What would it take for Farhan or ownership to remove Kapler as manager before the all-star break? Losing three-fourths of our games? He will not be removed before the end of the season? What say you?

    • djloo27 said, on April 17, 2023 at 8:45 am

I’m not a Kapler fan but he ain’t going anywhere as long as he’s under contract.
The Giants don’t fire managers anymore.
Who was the last one, Davenport maybe?
They were the aberration of all time in 2021 and have more or less played to their
      talent level since…

Kapler isn’t the problem. Farhan bears far more responsibility on the shittiness of the team than Kapler.

When Bochy left part of criticism was that game has passed him by and he couldn’t function in analytics era. Meanwhile, Dusty B age 73 won it all with Astros, 66 year old Schowalter (not a fav of mine) won 100 games with Mets and got bounced out of playoffs by Bob Melvin, age 61. I haven’t watched Rangers at all but will always have soft spot for Bochy 3/5 era over 2016 and beyond. If it’s what he wants to do wish him well.

Later this summer I’ll be 72 and still enjoy being in gym coaching youth group basketball every weekend from late fall to early spring, something I started doing in the early 90s. Our season just ended last month and every Saturday evening for a month I’ll be back doing fundamentals stuff for hour and a half with 4th-6th grade boys. Most of the drills and teaching points come from someone I’ve coached with before who is few years older than I am. We had lunch last week and went over how best to teach some stuff and what drills to focus on–the more I listened/less I talked, more I learned.

Fantastic. At this stage of life it’s important to stay active. I’m 71 and if I don’t get my exercises in I feel sluggish all day. I have found lately that overdoing it does come with complications though.

  5. Winder said, on April 17, 2023 at 9:01 am

The way we have been playing I’m not sure we will win very many series. It’s not just the managing/players but once again it’s basic fundamentals. Anyway we certainly are not a good team at this point.

Still can’t see why with 3W/S rings that Bruce Bochy still will always chase a .500 record as a manager? While Melvin,Showalter,Baker all kick his ass way above.500 in their managing careers.Boch will be in the HOF no doubt, but deep down I bet he wants to finish up above .500 and part of the reason coming back imo…

    • djloo27 said, on April 17, 2023 at 10:13 am

Minnie Minoso lost his .300 career average by coming back briefly in 1976 and 1980 just to be the only player to appear in 5 different decades as far as I know…

Thanks Loo. Awesome hitter, cool that B/R includes his Negro League stats with NY Cubans. One of the players on the 1948 Cubans was Lyman Bostock. Never knew about Dad, only son.

    • unca_chuck said, on April 17, 2023 at 12:14 pm

I don’t think it has anything to do with his overall record. He’s a baseball lifer. Yeah, he got burned out here, and didn’t want to be a part of the overall rebuild, and he was having health issues at the time besides. But I love all the bulshit revisionist narratives that Bochy was forced out. His contract was up, and the team sucked by the time he left. They lost like 170 games in 2017 and 2018.

  7. Locojuan said, on April 17, 2023 at 10:15 am

I think Loo is right about Mr. Dingers and Deadlifts, he’s signed through next year and they just picked up Zaidi’s option to match that, so I doubt the Giants fire him.

Has Kapler ever takin the blame or ownership for something? When I read his interviews (I can’t listen to his robotic speech patterns any longer), It seems like it is always, we thought this, we talked to him about that, we wanted to do blah blah blah. I’m probably wrong, but I can’t recall him saying my bad or something that shows any managerial ownership.

    • Winder said, on April 17, 2023 at 10:46 am

It would be nice to see him get real pissed off sometimes. Baseball is an emotional game.

    • unca_chuck said, on April 17, 2023 at 12:09 pm

Well, Bochy never got unruly. Not sure how that helps. And he did call out Villar for the brain fart the other day.

For all the shit Kapler gets, he’s working with a team full of mediocrity.

LONG post from GH from last week that I just approved that had gone to spam for some reason. I need to check spam more frequently but it definitely does it’s job with the trolls.

The shit coming out about Reggie Jackson being denied the purchase of the A’s in 2005 makes fucking Bug Selig look more like a scum-sucking douche nozzle than he already was. A local hero minority owner comes in to save the day in Oakland? Fuck that. Bud picked his frat bro Lew Wolff. He should be stripped of his joke HoF status.

Apparently Ostler wrote about this a few weeks ago.

    The gist of it being:

But what about Joe Lacob? The man who now owns the Golden State Warriors told Shea that he (Lacob) had a verbal agreement to buy the A’s back then, but “Bud Selig … basically did not approve of Schott and Hofmann selling the team to someone he didn’t know or (couldn’t) control.”

Lacob said Selig took Lacob’s term sheet to Wolff/Fisher and basically said, Just match Lacob’s price.

Jackson’s group (Bill Gates/Paul Allen) offered $25 million more.

takes 3/4 of the owners to approve a sale.

Hope it’s not deja vu all over again but: Marlins (like Detroit) dead last in NL for runs scored, 14-13-14 for OB slugging OPS. Hope they don’t get happy off Giants pitching like Tigers did. Didn’t get much from J Soler last year in 72 games, but this is contract year for him again.

  23. alleykat69 said, on April 17, 2023 at 6:03 pm

Might as well have the Dubs lose as well,it’s only appropriate now..

    • Locojuan said, on April 17, 2023 at 6:50 pm

      Your nickel and dime Giants?

Mac, Hertford is around a 2 hour drive from me. Haven’t been in Gregory’s 5 and 10 but I have been in Hertford a few times, it’s Catfish Hunter’s home town.

      • Macdog said, on April 17, 2023 at 7:09 pm

        Ha, whaddya know.

  24. unca_chuck said, on April 17, 2023 at 6:20 pm

Naaah. Think the Dubs win fairly easily.

  25. Flavor said, on April 17, 2023 at 6:58 pm

Webb, 0-4. That’s unreal to me.

  26. Macdog said, on April 17, 2023 at 7:46 pm

Austin Wynnes just hit a 2-run double in his 1st AB as a Dodger.

  27. willedav said, on April 17, 2023 at 8:35 pm

GS gonna have to flip the switch. Halftime looks like last game final stats: Sac has more blocks steals assists boards (9-5 offensive) and points in paint. Sloppy game with all the turnovers, but GS can ill afford them. Huerter and Sabonis got going, so did Wiggins late.

  28. willedav said, on April 17, 2023 at 8:36 pm

Ian Eagle and Jim Jackson good team during NCAA season. So much better than Van Gumby Reggie M Jackson.

  29. Macdog said, on April 17, 2023 at 9:23 pm

    Uh-oh, Draymond antics

  30. unca_chuck said, on April 17, 2023 at 9:36 pm

Drive and foul drive and foul.

  31. unca_chuck said, on April 17, 2023 at 9:38 pm

Oh well. Dray is great but extremely stupid. Like they ain’t gonna see that.

Sabonis’ foot in the restricted area. Haven’t watched this game but it looks like a repeat of the getting killed on the offensive boards.

  32. unca_chuck said, on April 17, 2023 at 9:43 pm

Dubs are Dun. Chuck and duck

  33. willedav said, on April 17, 2023 at 10:21 pm

Wasn’t quite Warren Jabali (one of my ABA heroes), but…
GS had cool lineup out there at the end, Steph Klay Wiggins Looney Payton, just not quite good enough.
Clutch plays again by HB, had to feel good.

  34. djloo27 said, on April 18, 2023 at 6:45 am

We dug Jabali on my block just for the name change.
Think it was Armstrong before that.
And after the latest “puzzle” I’ll never look at fuckin Wordle again.
Those fuckers must be having a good laugh today.
Who thinks the Giants see .500 again this season?
