Light The Beam
I’m not gonna lie, I like “light the beam” lol. And I can’t even be mad about last night’s loss. Draymond just doing his typical out of control shit. That dude needs to develop a self control plan. I get it, Sabonis grabbed him a little but it does not justify stomping a dude out. You’re just trying to get ejected when you do that. Total meltdown and probably the reason they ultimately lost but take nothing away from Sacramento who just keeps bringin’ it. They are such a fun team to watch…….
Speaking of fun teams to watch…..there continues to be one on the exact opposite end of the fun spectrum and that would be our SF Giants. I don’t even know what else to say about them anymore. Thank God for NBA and the lit beam to keep me distracted from their awfulness…..
We probably still lose if Draymond does not tossed. Curry forced that three down three with just over a minute left and had the feel off when he jacked up that three Game 7 against Cleveland in ‘16. Then Fox gets completely wide open for a three to go up 6 game over. Only way to stop Fox is to have Payton envelope him as I said the other day.
Kerr had Payton in Monk and then late after Draymond went out then they were trying to get Payton on Fox a couple of possessions but Payton needs to harass him as much as possible in the second half and see if it is possible to wear him down. They may have our number with Mike Brown…
let’s see what happens in SF. I’m actually very interested to see what the the playoff Road Kings look like.
Kings had a stretch of jacking up 3s and missing when Kerr went zone and made a comeback. Getting down in second quarter though, all the comebacks took it out of them I thought. And correct me if I’m wrong, don’t think after first quarter GS ever led again. Every time they would tie it up, like before end of first half/Payton late 3, couldn’t get over hump and Kings retook lead.
think that is right. Championship Warrior teams knew if they fell behind they could pull out the win and now all of sudden in back to back games they failed what they have done so many times in the past. I would bet they are in disbelief they came up short in both games. They also took three of four correct this season against the Kings.
Loo you are right about Warren Armstrong. Once Oakland Oaks became an ABA team and Barry jumped Warriors, used to watch them and WA played for them as rookie. that team won ABA title (vs. Pacers and NYC legend Roger Brown in Finals) with Barry (35 games only and none in playoffs) Doug Moe and Larry Brown, coached by great Alex Hannum. Jabali was the star though, leading scorer as a guard who averaged 25 and got 12 boards a game too. What a fierce competitor, wow.
Terry Pluto wrote a great book about ABA but it’s long out of print.
GH I think you are right about Mike Brown, who is doing a number on GS. He has Kerr scrambling to find combos that work, as his bench guys have played well like Davion Mitchell last night and Trey Lyles game before at both ends. They’ve turned Warriors into very Steph centric half court team and cut down the ball movement stuff they like to do. Curry got his but wasn’t every efficient night 3-13 from 3. 20 turnovers does not equate to Championship DNA stuff they like to talk about.
Plus guys Kerr relies on like Poole DiVincenzo and Kuminga rendered ineffective, so far. None of them were on floor at crunch time.
Brown has strategized to get very physical and they have the younger, more athletic team and that 1-2 punch is wreaking havoc on the Dubs. Now if I am Brown and Sabonis I keep trying to upset the Draymond applecart and get him to do something else dumb…
I have an autographed picture of Draymond in my office. I think it’s the only autographed thing I own. Anyway, I love that dude but he can’t do that and think anything other than “I hurt my team”
mm yes though he’d never admit it.
saw an interesting thought from someone in Athletic, that vs. Kings Kerr can’t play Looney and Green together because of how the Kings hound Curry and another shooter/scorer is needed. Rebounding has been an issue so not sure who would be on floor more in that situation. Payton was really good last night, but Kerr got nothing out of Poole Kuminga or Donte. Maybe at home this changes. Those guys weren’t the ones turning ball over though.
I do wonder if Kerr might use zone more often as it definitely had Kings out of whack for awhile.
NY radio guy just read off Soto’s wretched stats as a Padre.
He also called the Giants “weird and stupid.”
He’s right on both…
Yep.
I did love the Lee Harvey Oswald impression by Sabonis. Looked like a soccer game broke out.
He should have been given a flagrant 1 for the grab if Dray gets a 2.
I thought that was what they did call on Sabonis and Curry took the free throw, which if I recall, he missed…
Sabonis was certainly not blameless here. Still doesn’t justify what Draymond did
mm bodies falling on floor everywhere. Sabonis I can see grabbing leg so he didn’t get kicked in head or elsewhere. Dray said he lost balance…whatevs at this point.
Dray brought up Monk did something similar in Game 1. Dubs know the Kings have a game plan to muscle them now how do the Dubs respond with their championship DNA???
Win at home.
The Catch to start a dynasty!.The Foot to end a dynasty!
Losing baseball is bad. Losing and uninspired baseball is worse. Losing, uninspired and directionless baseball is worst. Giants appeared mired in never ending effort to maintain relevance (aka stay within striking distance of wild card berth) as opposed to developing strategic plan to compete on same level as Dodgers, Padres, Braves & Mets. Stocking roster with journeymen mid level talent might produce brief spells of winning baseball but over course of full season lack of top flight players and depth shows through. 2021 was outlier year. The fact that 2023 version of Giants resembles 2019 & 2020 version minus marginal upgrades is distressing.
Completely agree with this.
Farhan’s approach is on the hot seat this season.
4+ years into his new regime, running a player carousel from series to series is not what most fans envisioned back then, me included. Reaching to pull a DFA’d ex-Dodger from the Royals scrapheap who then gets to the 26 man right away and starting a game should be an alarm bell on this approach, this late in the new regime’s tenure…
So from what I gather from some of yday’s responses no one thinks Kapler would be dismissed before the all-star break. So even with playing .250 ball he is still safe? I know there is not a lot of interest for Joe Maddon on the Flap but he is out there and I am still a fan and would be maybe the obvious replacement for Kapler
It seems, to me, both teams’ strategy on defense is to get physical against the opponent’s fast-paced offense; so the two teams are pounding on each other, getting a lot of fouls, and shooting a lot of free throws.
Giants have a plan, but it doesn’t happen in a vacuum, e.g., I could have sworn they went after Aaron Judge and Carlos Correa in this preseason and tried to sign Harper and Stanton in past seasons. Consequently, you’re wasting your breath trying to convince me that the Giants dont have a plan A, B and likely a plan C – knowing how smart MIT graduate, Zaidi is.
The key word above is “vacuum.” There are many moving parts to signing a free agent, particularly “Super Star” hitters, whom have let it be known on more than one occasion that the City by the Bay is one of their least favorite places to play. Couple the aforementioned with California income taxes; elite teams having a big advantage bidding for their services versus the Gmen who sucked last year; our liberal politics – most baseball players are more like Aubrey Huff than Brandon Crawford; and, probably a myriad of other reasons I have not noted here.
We all love Brian Sabean, who joined the Giants in 1993, serving as assistant to the general manager and vice president of scouting/player personnel. Sabean served one year as senior vice president of player personnel in 1995 before his promotion to general manager in 1996 . . . However, how many of us remember his first major decision was trading fan favorite Matt Williams to the Cleveland Indians for José Vizcaíno, Joe Roa, Julián Tavárez and Jeff Kent???
Sabean received so much criticism in San Francisco for the trade that he had to defend himself in the media, declaring, “I am not an idiot.” Fast forward today, Sabes is a saint in San Francisco.
Blade you’re dead on about the Giants always being second fiddle to other organizations in signing a SUPERSTAR which frustrates me to no end!So what’s plan B&C in Morocco Mole’s besides an underperforming farm system?Dogpile &Padres kinda blow up your California Tax notion though as superstars don’t mind playing for them..
Yeah I remember that trade well,Sabean was taking so much shit on radio calls blah blah blah, but he knew he had a Superstar with Barry on board atleast so he rolled the dice with pieces the Giants were short on.The shocker was Kent who was basically a throw in that I doubt even Sabean even knew would just be a marvelous player protecting Bonds!
Lol Joe Roa..Claim to fame a really cool nickname..”Roa Construtor”
The thing that concerns me most in the 5th year of Zman is that there is no indication the farm system is going to churn out a constant stream of real players in the next few years. Villar looks serviceable, Schmidt may be, Harrison looks the part, but is treading water now at AAA, apparently. Where are the top notch prospects, the can’t miss farmhands. 5 years in, there seems to be disarray in the Plan, whatever the Plan is. The Plan can’t be that 5 years in, guys like Beatty are still being acquired willy nilly to fill any role on this team…
In fairness, Villar is an 11 round draft choice. I love Harrison and I think he will be up to the big club sometime this season. Per Pavlovic, his raw stuff — a three-pitch repertoire led by a mid-to-upper-90s fastball — blew coaches and teammates away, and he impressed manager Gabe Kapler with his work behind the scenes. On multiple occasions, Kapler mentioned how advanced Harrison was in his approach to the weight room.
I can’t recall Sabes having any draft choices of merit before Matt Cain in 2002. Again, he had been GM for 6 years before this pick and Cain didn’t arrive in the MLB until 2005. In fact, Sabes said this about his drafting philosophy (and I think it has merit), “Quite frankly, we’re very reluctant to overspend in the draft. We’re cautious in that regard because it’s so fallible. Our focus is spending as much as we can and being as wise as we can at the major-league level and using the minor leagues as a supplement and not necessarily leaning on it totally. Teams that are allowed to have a three-to- five-year plan and allowed to lose or explain to their fans they’re in a rebuilding mode have a greater latitude than we do. We always have to be in a reloading mode.”
I guess my point snarkk is that I consider Zaidi the smartest GM in baseball. He knows the game 7 ways from Sunday and my question is, “who would we get to replace him?”
I’m still on board with ZMan, but we’ll see at the end of this season. 5 years is enough time to do an evaluation of where this management is headed. Virtually all the top teams bring up MLB ready talent all the time. The Giants? Pffffft. I expected more by now, even with the knowledge SabEvans left a bare cupboard, effectively…
I don’t know what’s causing us to play crappy baseball but that is what we are doing. I agree with the above post about an attitude problem
Off subject, but I am laughing my ass off regarding Fox settling with Dominion for $787 million . . . Quite frankly, I was laying odds this settlement would be completed NLT the weekend by this asshat network. Very curious how Fox spins this . . . Additionally, Dominion still has pending lawsuits against election deniers such as Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell.
SmartMatic has a pending lawsuit for defamation against Fox, for $2+ billion. Same issues as Dominion. $787M seems cheap, to me. I think this morning’s ruling by the judge to appoint a special master to investigate Fox’ hiding of evidence, and come back in 3 weeks with a report, in the middle of the trial, was the last straw for Fox. They had to bail on this. I’m surprised at the number being < $ 1billion. The punies on this in a verdict for Dominion could have been astronomical – there is no statutory limit on punies in Delaware…
Disagree snarkk . . . CNN’s analyst, Elie Honig, former assistant US attorney for the Southern District of New York, just said this . . .
“I didn’t think there was any way they would get $1.6 billion – even when they proved their case, even if they proved it overwhelmingly to a jury. Let’s remember, by its own estimation, Dominion valued the entire company at somewhere between $30 and $80 million. This settlement is 10 times the value of Dominion as an entire company. That’s how strong a statement this is with this number,”
Damages that could have applied is speculation at this point. The ability of a jury to assess essentially limitless punitive damages (subject to appeal) was a wild card Faux News was apparently not willing to risk…
Do you think it’s a good possibility that SmartMatic gets an even larger settlement? I can’t imagine that Fox wants to even get near a court room after this settlement.
SmartMatic has sued for $2.7B, a much higher figure than Dominion. The lawyer for SM has already come out this afternoon and recognized this settlement as proving Faux’ responsibility for the same lies about SM’s voting machines, obviously leveraging that in favor of his case, which covers the same ground as Dominion’s. The settlement figure for SM just went up, and probably the likelihood of a settlement went up, too. The legal pundits are already agreeing with me that this morning’s special master ruling against Faux was probably a final straw that made Faux definitely want to avoid the trial…
Most excellent.
Very odd to be litigating sanctions for pre trial discovery misconduct DURING trial. Must’ve been some serious Fox dishonesty. Wonder if the special master would’ve had time before the case went to the jury to recommend spoliation instructions? The second case should be easier, and cheaper, to make now. I’m disappointed. I intended to pay attention to the trial.
Despite up and mostly down play of Giants so far, it’s really unfortunate they can’t stay healthy, major factor that doomed last year to mediocrity.
Haniger is just going to rehab games now, Slater has had couple games in Sac, Pederson is on IL, they’ve gone through 4 Cs already, Conforto day to day.
Sac team scored 17 in Reno day before, Brett Wisely 4-6 with 4 doubles and couple OFs homered are off to fast starts with 1.000 OPS. Hitters league to be sure but Villar has some potential.
I think there are hitters that will get to big club soon and they drafted lot of pitching. Seeing how things develop in minors something I check in on daily. Not all doom and gloom,
Agree. I think most fans tend to forget that baseball is so unlike other major sport leagues, such as football and basketball, where a franchise can be losers one year and in 1-2 years totally turn around their fortunes via the draft. Baseball doesn’t work that way, as the draft is a crapshoot. Giants fans are particularly susceptible to this belief, as they have had a lot of relative recent success, coupled with the fact that they might also forget that although Timmy, Madison, and Buster were drafted in the 1st round, they were respectively, 11th, 10th and 5th picks . . . not #1 in all of baseball, i.e., being a #1 pick in baseball is usually meaningless, much more so for the players that follow.
Loo and I may have bigger fish to fry tonight.
Ha. Sharks have been so bad haven’t followed hockey. Where is game 1? ESPN had them last night.
TBS?
Unca had it, TBS.
Soooo, Cobb’s hurt now? WTAF?
Same old Giants lead off double by Davis ( who’s been a stud so far) Wilmet flies out ,Craw a weak shit roller to first , followed by a Villar K pfffft..
Wood hurt as the injuries continue as well..
Coob, Wood. Fuck. An Alex by any other name would suck so sweet. Hurt fielding a bunt. Jeebus. We should be the San Francisco Crystals.
Team is in danger of being out of the WC by end of this month. Must win some games…
Dray suspended for game 3. What a joke.
Payback for 2003
That’s all well and good, Blade, but the Pads and Dodgers have run circles around Farhan’s farm these last 5 years.
