A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

ChatGPT Weighs In

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 21, 2023

I plugged a couple of key words into ChatGPT and it spit this *story* out in about 4 seconds. Weird wild stuff man…..

It was a cool Spring evening at Oracle Park in San Francisco, and the home team, the Giants, were facing off against the New York Mets. The stadium was buzzing with excitement as fans filled the seats, hoping to see their team take home a win.

The game got off to a rough start for the Giants, with the Mets quickly jumping out to an early lead. Their starting pitcher, Sean Manaea, was struggling to find his rhythm, and the Mets were taking full advantage.

Despite a valiant effort by some of the Giants’ batters, including power hitters Sabol and Late Night Lamonte, the team was unable to overcome their early deficit. Sabol smashed a homerun deep into left field, bringing the score to 4-2 in the fourth inning. But the Mets quickly responded with another run of their own, widening the gap.

The Giants’ pitching was atrocious, with Manaea being pulled from the game after just four innings. His replacement, a rookie named Beck, was clearly not ready for the big leagues. This Beck reminded no one of the great Rod Beck from years past.

As the game wore on, it became clear that the Giants were outmatched. The fans grew increasingly restless, with many of them heading for the exits early. Sabol and Lamonte continued to fight, but it was clear that their efforts were in vain.

In the end, it was Beck who finished the game for the Giants, though he was hardly a bright spot. The final score was a lopsided 12-3 in favor of the Mets, leaving the home team and their fans devastated.

As the crowd filed out of the stadium, many were left wondering what had gone wrong. The Giants had been on a roll lately, but they had been thoroughly destroyed by the Mets. It was a bitter pill to swallow, but they knew that they would have to regroup and come back stronger if they wanted to have a shot at the playoffs.

So proving that AI/ChatGPT will lie at will…”stadium was buzzing with excitement”….maybe a couple blocks away.

    Playoffs? Playooooffffs?

But solid solid Dubs performance. Another win Sunday and we should be in the Kings heads…

Was odd Kap left Beck in there after 5 hitters in a row got on base when they extended lead from 6-4 to 9-4. Beck wound up going 5 innings in relief, allowing 9 hits and a walk, bomb to McNeil he lofted over the wall down the line.
Manaea had oddest inning–hits a guy, gives up a HR. then does exact same thing next 2 batters and it’s 4-0. Mets looked like they were out to catch Giants HR totals all in one night.

Don’t know how Bum and the FO feel about each other, but using Bum as a late inning relief guy for the league minimum should be a no-brainer. Plus, you know he’d fire up the bench. Hell, just having Bum drill Muncy would be worth the bucks.

That last line should resonate with every self respecting Giant fan on Earth…

I get it – the Giants suck right now. However, it’s not like the rest of the West is on fire, as Arizona is barely .500 and on a 2 game losing streak. LA was under .500 before winning a game yesterday; and, San Diego is under .500 . . . Colorado is bringing up the rear, not the Giants.

More important than above, the Gmen ran into a buzz saw of Alonso/Mets team that is currently 6-1 on this 10 game road trip.

to me i don’t really care about the other teams. I could look at who we’ve faced and say we’ve been all out to beat some bad teams even when we do win. I trust my eyes and this team is just not very good. Way too many platoon guys, zero star hitters for the opposition to fear and a pitching staff that is likely wildly overrated.

      • blade3colorado said, on April 21, 2023 at 8:34 am

Umm, that’s fair or I wouldn’t have said they “suck.” No one else seems to care, but just like most (not all) of the league right now – the Giants are BORING. I have watched two games this season (at parent’s house because I only have apps for television) and fell asleep both times. Why? A, B, or C usually happens . . . a whiff, walk, or bomb.

Zzzz . . . Commissioner needs to come up with better ideas to improve the game, but he wont. He only cares about the cash register and more important, pleasing the owners.

i think he’s come up with a lot of good ideas to improve the game this year.

regarding the dubs, that’s about what i expected. Get Sacto OUT of Sacramento and the Warriors BACK to Chase and we were bound to see a different outcome. Sacramento better start finding their stroke from deep they can’t count on the Warriors to keep turning the ball over and they found out what happens last night when they don’t get the freebie runs up the floor

    • willedav said, on April 21, 2023 at 8:35 am

Kings bench sucked too. At one point maybe at half Monk and Lyles were 1-14 and mitchell isn’t a shooter either. Minus Dray I was surprised Kings kept taking early 3s and not making GS work to defend them especially with Poole starting and no GP2 all game.

Also once and for all like to see end of the “gotta have big rim protector” BS. Loon was good enough last night to slow down Sabonis, and um year before when they won it all. Game is so different now. The best big men are multi skilled players that can go out on perimeter and knock down 3s–Embiid Joker Randle Towns yada yada. Loon’s effort to compete is just a treat to watch, bodying up Sabonis hustling for O boards screening and passing to shooters.

“On a roll”? ChatGPT is pretty dumb. 1-6 is quite the roll!!!

    • Flavor said, on April 21, 2023 at 9:32 am

well, i gave it very little information

      • xoot said, on April 21, 2023 at 10:30 am

I think you can command it to tell its story in any author’s unique style.

    • unca_chuck said, on April 21, 2023 at 12:52 pm

Apparently this is a big thing on the Tom Waits FB page. Have ChatGPT write a song in Waits’ style.

  7. unca_chuck said, on April 21, 2023 at 8:27 am

Dubs did a lot more driving to the rim. That is key. Looney’s presence on the glass can’t be understated. 20 rebounds for the loon man. Kerr has to impress on them the need to drive to the basket and score inside. Then look for the kick-outs.

    • Flavor said, on April 21, 2023 at 9:32 am

cutting down on turnovers is a bigger key (which they finally did last night)

  8. unca_chuck said, on April 21, 2023 at 9:42 am

Yep. 13 is better than 20. But they can’t settle for 3s late in close games. The Kings in their wins went to the rim and got a ton of free throws. Poole has been very good at getting to the line and that should be his focus when he is in the game and Steph is out.

  9. unca_chuck said, on April 21, 2023 at 1:23 pm

Yeah, the problem with the Giants is they just got through their creampuff part of the sched and didn’t make hay.

We shat the bed. Now we have a stretch of tough teams and it appears we will be outclassed.

  10. zumiee said, on April 21, 2023 at 2:19 pm

The Cubs gave the Dodgers an epic drubbing today, 13-0. The Dodgers had only one hit. Urias was the Dodger starting pitcher.

    • zumiee said, on April 21, 2023 at 2:25 pm

Bellinger hit an HR off of Urias.
Bellinger has five HRs. During this past off-season, I wanted the Giants to take a look at Bellinger.

      • djloo27 said, on April 21, 2023 at 3:32 pm

What a relaxing little song you just reminded me of…

  11. zumiee said, on April 21, 2023 at 2:33 pm

Bochy’s Rangers are in first place with a 3.5 game lead. Is there anybody in MLB having more fun than Bochy right now?

  12. willedav said, on April 21, 2023 at 3:37 pm

Cubs thrashed Urias and Dogs today, holding them to 1 hit in 13-0 W.
Urias went 3 and a third, gave up 7 hits 2 walks 2 bombs 5 earned.
    sometimes your superstars suck.
Cubs traded away one of theirs, Bryant, to the Giants for couple prospects–nice move by Z to try and get 2021 team over the top. Unfortunately he was very average for Giants, not great defensively anywhere and hit for like .750 OPS. then poor Rox signed him to stupid $$ and he missed most of last season.

    • willedav said, on April 21, 2023 at 3:45 pm

See Zum above! Never did like Bellinger though.

One more detail from the Cubbies’ beatdown of the Dodgers: Former Giant Drew Smyly had a perfect game going for 7 innings.

Gimme Shelter. Good first inning. This team may make it to .500. if TBone and Cobb stay healthy.

This Mets pitcher is so herky jerky he’s a DL candidate on every pitch..

Also noticed a ton of empty seats in Miami, although maybe that was the get-away day game. Looked like 2020 all over again. Wonder if attendance everywhere is below pre-Covid days.

    • xoot said, on April 21, 2023 at 7:49 pm

I’m convinced mlb’s post pandemic biz plan considers other revenue streams either as important or more important than butts in the seats. Anyway, A’s to Vegas will ensure continued $$$$ from SF. Bay Area doesn’t need to be a two team market. It’s can just be one big monopoly market.

Giants hitters taking first pitch get me in 90 mph strikes all night. Dunno why. Alonso sure didn’t.

And Ballgame courtesy of Pete Alonso and his 10th Bomb 💣 of the season..

  25. xoot said, on April 21, 2023 at 8:31 pm

Damn. Joey made the right play drilling the runner in the back. Shoulda been the third out. Bart clearly has worked hard to improve every aspect of his game and he has succeeded except where everyone wants him to excel.

TBone’s giving one up. Well, win some lose some. .500

    • djloo27 said, on April 21, 2023 at 8:39 pm

No help from Wilmer at first.
How about moving your glove out towards 2nd and giving Joey a reasonable target?

    Do something!
